So with this year about to conclude it is worth mentioning what a glorious year of Yuri it was and how it was a decent year for a few select heterosexual couples. While there are cretins who chafe about the lack of quality series their numbers are few and they are stupid for having such narrow tastes. It gloriously began with Mariaholic with Kanako concocting glorious fantasies of a Yuri world and ruined Shizu for marriage though her final victory was thwarted by a most dangerous and skilled trap. Despite the lack of Best End for Kanako I do hope that one day she will mature into a powerful master of the Yuri and claim the yuri harem that her loli angel had prepared for her. Sadly it was also a winter of despair as the hateful Saji and those CB terrorists brought ruin upon Soma and Louise and forced them into tyrannous hetero pairings with loser animu males. Skip Beat! had Kyoko confess her undying love for Moko despite persistent speculation that Kyoko has even a drop of affection for Shotaro.

Spring brought K-On with Mugi-chan giving Ritsu ample opportunity to claim Mio and ruin her for marriage. But the best was yet to come as summer introduced us to a paragon of Yuri Virtue in the form of Alphardonee-sama . Even now her prowess has yet to be matched and she remains one of the more unforgettable heroines that have wielded the Yuri. Such was he grace that she has become the Gold Standard against which all heroines will be measured by. Riding along Alphard onee-sama’s side was the redoubtable Liang Qi whose yuri love for Alphard was truely great though sadly it was not to be reciprocated fully. However the union of Alphard and Liang Qi produced a glorious daughter they named Kuroko who inherited many of their best traits and combat prowess. While not as powerful or great Marin and Kanon were a delightful pair whose yuri love was sadly unconsummated because of silly rules and Kanon being bi. Also of note was the yuri baiting series Kampfer which I found to be a riot for it delivered consistent yuri despite the presence of a male whose loyalty would have been most praiseworthy had he not been so misguided. There was also Aoi Hana, Saki, Taishou Yakyuu Musume, and Sasameki but we didn’t cover them nearly as much this year though I might manage considering the horrid lack of yuri this winter. So comrades let us toast to this glorious year that will be long remembered and possibly sorely missed as 2010 reaches every corner of the globe.

Calawain’s- Traps, Nopan, and an Unstable Teleporting Lesbian

I’m a rather devout fan of yuri, giving every show with it at least a shot, and wow, there were a glut of shows with yuri content in them in 2009. One of the most anticipated yuri titles in awhile was Sasameki Koto, which was a decent enough adaptation. I found that Kazama’s seiyuu and character were pretty weak and heavy on the emo, but Murasame’s voice was perfect, and I felt that they really nailed her deadpan side as well as the delusional one. Also, can’t forget the awesomeness that was Akemiya the trap, above. They also managed to insert a heap of humor throughout, and didn’t get bogged down in Aoi Hana-like melodrama.

Railgun managed to definitely snag the best comedy yuri title of the year, with the impassioned Kuroko wholeheartedly stealing the show with her antics of Biribiri love and abuse. I came for the Biribiri, but stayed for the Kuroko. Now if only they could come up with a plot that isn’t total trash. Oh, and ditch the other two “protagonists,” Uiharu and Saten, what a glut of boredom those two manage to inspire.

By far the best yuri title of the year in my mind is Saki, whose yuri antics (among other things) I covered previously. The show featured a rather large collection of yuri pairings, and everyone had their favorite (shamefully, I’ll take the often overexposed Saki and Nodotits). What was fascinating is that even though people had their favorites, there was rarely any hate for other pairings, just an appreciation for the deliciousness of it all. My image folder for Saki is filled with more than just two characters thanks to /a/. What began, ostensibly, as a show about mahjong certainly ended up being about yuri and a lack of panties. Saying that Saki is about mahjong is kind of like saying FLCL is about robots and aliens, right?

ExecutiveOtaku’s ‘The Sound and the Yuri’

While I do not worship at the Temple of Yuri as my comrade Crusader does (i.e. I don’t specifically enjoy yuri just for the yuri), this past year has delivered a number of great shows that had high yuri content. Maria Holic was a great comedy. Evil trap roommate, Kanako’s angel song, nearly Hosaka-level daydreams, oh-so-SHAFT animation and humor elements, and that great ending song/animation. Maria Holic was definitely in my favorite comedies of the year, probably second after the newest Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, and it had plenty of competition this year. Plus it had the amazing Matsurika, deadpan abusive maid commentator extraordinaire. K-On, while not explicitly yuri, definitely brought the lulz with it’s yuri undertones in several scenes. Tsumugi quickly became my favorite for her elegance and feigned ignorance while she secretly shipped her friend together. Behind those oddly cute eyebrows lurks a sharp and devious intelligence.

Moving on to action, Canaan was not my favorite show ever, but it had some great moments in it. Alphard was an amazing antagonist, at times a master of frontal assault, at others a deliciously cunning trickster. Backed up by her crazy, obsessive, failed yuri-love Liang Qi (GET SOME GET SOME), it made for some great action scenes and was a decent if not amazing show. Finally, on to more dramatic things, Aoi Hana, which I’m still working on finishing, brought us some lovely yuri romance and equally lovely visual style. As my love for Honey and Clover and Kimi ni Todoke shows, I’m a sucker for those watercolor landscape and location shots, and Aoi Hana knew just where to hook me by setting the story in Kamakura, one of my favorite places I’ve ever been to. Despite a little too much of the waterworks early on, I’m looking forward to a satisfying ending to what is so far a very nice yuri love story.

Additionally, all these series had some pretty good music. K-On centered around it, giving viewers a lot to listen to. Maria Holic’s wonderful ‘Kimi ni Mune Kyun (Kyun!)‘ ending theme was catchy and nicely executed in 16-bit style, both visually and in its audio.  Aoi Hana’s OP, Aoi Hana by Kukikodan,  started off as slow and kind of sad, but moved to a more upbeat tone, and seeing Akira and Fumi dancing around together was both cute and beautifully animated. Canaan had quite the badass OP right from the first electric guitar notes, Mind as Judgement. And that countdown featuring all the main characters was one of my favorite elements in an OP this year.

Crusader’s The Fighter, The Dreamer, and The Lover

While it was a glorious year overall I have to make special mention for Mariaholic, Canaan, and Railgun. I have never wavered in advocating love between otome as the state of animu males is generally lacking, but Mariaholic brought a good number of glorious Kanako fantasies that just SMASHED REALITY INTO ATOMS IN THE NAME OF SHINING ZEUS while poor Kanako never had a night of forever and ever with the harem that was rightfully hers it was most fun to bear witness to her flights of fancy. Having now ruined Shizu for marriage I hope that Kanako will become the mistress of yuri that we all know that she is capable of being. Alphard onee-sama simply out shone every yuri heroine of the year as she is indeed an heir of Chikane’s legacy as Alphard is indeed an ojou-sama from a distinguished family that has been continued for a thousand years, skilled in both literary and military arts, with wit and beauty, the intensity of summer, the grace of autumn, the pride of winter, and the gentleness of spring. Such is her greatness that she can outfight most of the boys that marred this season, save perhaps Prince Ali himself (it’d be a draw really since they come from the same school of CQC) and of course ALMIGHTY ZEUS (really I’d like to see someone other than Hades try, could use another instance of AWESOME TYPE ROCKET PUNCH). Alphard consummated her yuri love with Canaan producing a daughter maned Misaki who inherited the latter’s super powers and she also raised a wondrous daughter named Kuroko with Liang Qi. Thoughtful, loving, and mighty Alphard was everything that any one should aspire to be, sure she made a few mistakes, but at least she strove to correct them while liberating Canaan Mk II from the shadow of Siam. Final mention goes to Kuroko whose love of her onee-sama is almost as intense as her mother Liang Qi’s and whose martial prowess makes Alphard smile with pride. All in all it was a good year with many heroines worthy of praise, a year like this might not come again for quite some time. For the fans of yuri at least for this year anime was worth watching despite the cries of decline from the hordes of hetero harem animu infidels. So IN THE NAME OF SHINING ZEUS HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Ah memories…

Well about two months ago back in April I should have marked my 2nd blog anniversary but things have not really been normal to say the least. Well I suppose that this post will at least mark the start of my terrible twos in which case quality will plummet as will output (Mwahahahaha). I started the year off by getting my apartment broken into and making E-5. Now that my academic career is at an end it basically fell upon me to make good on my newfound responsibilities at work, which meant having a whacked out schedule of extended hyperactivity every now in then. In July it will be a brutal month as I get to fly to Virginia twice in the same month to the same place, knowing what I know now it basically means four or more red eye flights unless the paper work goes over well. Still I do get to make the traditional after graduation road trip, and hopefully that will be a bit more interesting than the usual. While summer looks to be a hit or a miss at least there is the promise of the Macross Movie (Which will be Gorgeous Delicious DECULCHA!). So here goes the mandatory late as hell rant I am supposed to do at the end of every blog year, which is conversely an opportunity to muse aimlessly in a futile effort to put together a post.

Oh Mazinger Z how I lament that your tale is shrouded in obscurity.

While Impz might have gone from gun monkey to desk jockey in the Singaporean Corps of Conscripts, I haven’t earned the right to chain myself to a desk just yet, to be perfectly honest I am finding just how magical a time being an E-5 is. I get the headaches of an E-6, and the physical exhaustion of being an E-4, but at least I do get a little extra here and there and most importantly I am still low enough on the great totem pole to evade responsibility. I also just lost my other half (partner in crime/co-worker) so I get to have twice the work load until I finish training the E-4, but at least she’s a good learner and I don’t have to baby sit an E-3 with “issues.” All in all I am edging towards the point that I might end up as exhausted as Zeon. I suppose this comes with the territory as I suspect that most bloggers are students rather than overworked soldaten, certainly there will probably come a point where the number of posts per week simply declines.

Also now that college is over and done with I actually got back into my other hobbies, and oddly enough while I have some issues with Valkyria the anime I still love the game to pieces to the point I actually want to do my Imperial Guard in Gallain colors and find some local saint who does resin casting for female Cadians/Kasrkin because I must have a model to represent Jane “Kill ‘em All” Turner (hey if anyone knows one drop a line). It also saddens me that there is very little enthusiasm for Shin Mazinger Z, but I suppose it might be time to bring out the reserves of stuff I have been meaning to watch but haven’t, Guin Saga, Eden of the East, etc. I still need to settle for a format on doing VOTOMS since condensing it into one post per arc would make it tl;dr, not that I think too many people are interested in going back in time to see what mecha was before yaoi, cowards, harem, and idiot soapbox preaching started taking hold.

I suppose it has been good going for the last two years plus some, but it has been a long time since I actually watched a shoujo series since Skip Beat! ended, though I am hoping there will be a point where the anime starts up again. Still the manga is still running along smoothly so it partially makes up for it. I suppose I am growing old if it’s becoming more fun to reminisce about the old days. If nothing else at least when Gundam 00 aired I could placate myself with the additional activity of praising the Immortal Colasour and his marrying above him. Well so far it’s been a good run even if productivity has slackened as of late. I hope that there will be a series that I will genuinely love to pieces that I can put into words come summer. As much as I like Shin Mazinger Z it’s pretty simple and I suppose very niche these days as it lacks modern aspects of mecha. Valkyria is turning out to be a re-interpretation of the game storyline that I don’t find terribly agreeable but it was always meant to be a festival of mediocrity that only fans of the game would stick with to the bitter end. Ah well with a Gundam Unicorn Movie due out within my life time and the promise of a Macross Frontier Movie with 70% redone animation I guess there is much to look forward to. So as a extremely premature celebration of a Macross Frontier largely free of QUALITY animation IMAGE DUMP GO!

10. Sachi (16 votes): Poor Sachi, rounded out last place. I’m guessing that most viewers found her kind of annoying like I did. I’ve never been one to dig the bubbly girls. There’s a difference for me between energetic and bubbly (or sugary sweet, if that helps the visualization).

Crusader: Poor Sachi she did a lot of grunt work for the Yuri Republic and in a way I suppose being Kanako’s sword and shield meant that she was never going to steal the spotlight. She was obviously Kanako’s #1 fan and she was rich too boot, sadly it seems that because Sachi was sworn to secrecy that the truth over the capture and defense of Kiri and the taming of Yuzuru will never be known. I salute her hard work and selfless deeds for the greater good of Kanako’s rule.

9. Yuzuru (35 votes): Not many fans of the archer who wants to jump in Sachi’s pants. She had a lot of screentime, but mostly as just a person to react to something Kanako did. And the episode dedicated to her was probably the worst of the 12.

Crusader: Yeah it seems that Yuzuru’s PR campaign was a disaster at least she came around in the end…as Saxhi’s yuri servant, even if she did not appreciate Kanako the Great at least Yuzuru is opposed to Kanako being even mildly heterosexual.

8. Ayari (36 votes): This made me sad, as I love the well-endowed blonde with the drills. I also love student council president characters. I’ll comfort you angel…

Crusader: I like how Ayarin appointed Kanako as her year two heir apparent even if after getting ruined for marriage was not enough to garner much of a sympathy vote, still Kanako will not abandon her mentor and will do the right thing and take full responsibility for ruining her.

7. Ryuuken (41 votes): The prince character didn’t garner a whole lot of support either. I don’t blame them, I generally find these characters irritating. And her episode was rather dull.

Crusader: So much for being Kanako’s protector, but I suppose when a forthright person like Ryuuken-sama was faced with stiff competition from Sachi that we all knew who was the one giving her all for the Kanako’s defense.

6. Kiri (57 votes): Megane-chan made a decent showing, perhaps it was the fact that her focus was early on that she didn’t garner a lot of support.

Crusader: Oh Kiri-san if only you had made good on your confession, ah well Kanako forgives you even if you seem to garner the attention of devaint men.

5. Shizu (102 votes): Mariya’s twin gets up pretty high. She has all of the delicious beauty of Mariya, but sans the package and plus the tits. And as we saw in that last episode, they were pretty good ones…

Crusader: Poor Shizu was part of the collateral damage from Kanako’s offensive the thndered out from the pool, but at least it seems that as Shizu was ruined twice for marriage that there has been much more sympathy for her, may she eventually rule Ame no Kisaki as Kanako’s consort.

4. Matsurika (168 votes): The trash talking medio was one of my favorite characters for sure. Deadpan delivery of biting insults gets me every time, and her various hypnosis techniques such as “I hate school swimsuits, I love loincloths” were brilliant. I approve of this medio.

Crusader: If there is to be a second season then I cannot wait to seem more of her, still that loincloth thing was pretty damn mean, but I did enjoy her girlish giggle.

3. Kanako (174 votes): Ah, the wonderful protagonist appears, a girl whose breasts are far from excessive. At the start of the show I was lukewarm on Kanako, while Crusader adored her from the start. She grew on me tremendously throughout the series, with her levels of woman love and perversion reaching heights I can admire. We share many of the same characteristics when it comes to that area, and I can sincerely identify with her. I’m also rather jealous because she goes to a school with such sexy bishoujos. You are one of us Kanako, we salute you.

Crusader: Despite the early criticism I knew Kanako was a winner, say what you will but this girl’s love for women and bishoujos is beyond question, even when assualted by that fell priest Kanako did not waver.  Her passionate fantasies might well exceed that of the formidable Hosaka though Kanako’s fantasies are so very realistic and are in every way preferable to reality. Kanako doesn’t know it yet but the Yuri is strong with her and no doubt in two years time she will level up to Chikane-class and rule Ame no Kisaki with iron fist, all will love her and tremble with anticipation of her delicate caress. I salute President Kanako of Year 2.

2. God (184 votes): I was very surprised by God’s popularity. I mean, I didn’t particularly care for the character, but I have to respect the voice of the people. I will admit I did enjoy her antics when it game to making the priest look like a fool and getting a plasma TV out of it.

Crusader: I am glad to see that there are many who fear the wrath of a most Vengeful God…

1. Mariya (507 votes): 38% of voters selected the traptastic beauty, and that included me. There was just no competition from the start, and I’m glad to see that a large plurality of our readers are just as broken as me. Now Mariya can be categorized as one of those traps that doesn’t look at all like a guy, the kind you don’t really see in real life. So if you look at it from the viewpoint of it being a girl with a chance of something naughty underneath it becomes taboo and tempting.

Well aside from the sexy trapiness of Mariya, his personality drove a huge portion of the great humor the show had to offer. The constant barrage of insults and jabs, the brainwashing, and general abuse of Kanako was masterful. He makes a great comedy duo with Kanako, especially when supported by the able meido Matsurika. Congratulations Mariya, the readers of THAT have spoken!

Crusader: Not very surprising considering how many hangers on Impz has, delightfully evil but ultimately needs to undergo gender reassignment to fully embrace Kanako. At least he has prowess that sort of makes up for being shorter than Kanako, but I suppose Mariya prefers it this way…

And so unfortunately we must draw this chapter of Maria+Holic to an end. But what a splendid end it was, complete with school swimsuits, loincloths, exposed breasts, and perverted dreams. What more could you ask for?

What a wonderful decision to make the swimsuit episode the very last episode. It makes all the waiting well worth it, and creates a superb sendoff. If only actual schools had such rules for swimsuits as Kanako dreams it. My high school didn’t have swimming classes, hell we didn’t even have a pool. All I remember is running in circles a lot…

I remember when PE got rained out in my high school they made us go inside the gym and play kickball or run in circles around the gym. God I hated that crap, they never let us play basketball for some cruel reason. And basketball was like the one sport I was good at.

Wow, how cruel. Regardless it was a good way to end the season, to make sure that we get one last prank played on Kanako by Mariya and Matsurika. Mariya didn’t have a whole lot of screentime, so I’ll have to review previous episodes to get my fix.

Simply…amazing. Such gifts the producers have given us in this final episode. I’ll even allow it despite the lack of trap, because Shizu is pretty delicious too. Obviously, because they are twins~ Not that I thought Mariya was actually going to be exposed.

I don’t think any of us really watched this for the story, but how harsh to end the season on such a note. Damn you Shinbo! Well, here’s hoping for a second season, as I am mildly curious as to what the connection is, as well as wanting more of this delicious series.

Final Impressions:
I knew right from the season preview that this was going to be a winner: it had a trap, a lesbian, and a maid. I was not disappointed in the least, and the show was able to provide a constant stream of comedy and great characters. I’ll go into more detail on the characters in a day or two when I do my poll wrap-up post, but suffice it to say I’m in love with Mariya and Kanako. Mariya because he’s a delicious trap, and Kanako because she’s so very much like me. The back and forth between Kanako, Mariya, and Matsurika created the best humor in the show, but the other characters maintained an ability to carry themselves as well.

From the wickedly awesome OP to the exaggerated nosebleeds, Maria+Holic rarely wandered off course. It kept it’s eye on the ball and kept doing what it was good at: providing comedy. The sidetracks to drama were small and thankfully they didn’t feel the need to make up some stupid melodrama to end the season like so many comedies feel the need to do. I hope that at some point they decide to make a second season, I would be quite pleased. Final Score: 9

Crusader’s Adroation of Kanako

Finally the last ep of Maria+holic, the finale was quite satisfying as Kanako’s dream was 12 kinds of win and awesome. Kanako ought to go into fashion she sure has the creative talent to makes some wondrous swim wear. Who needs reality when Kanako’s dreams are so vivd and detailed? Certainly it was as good as real when it came to the CPR dispute. As usual the citizens of Kanako’s Yuri Republic looked dashing. Sadly t was not to be in what passes for reality as Kanako underwent many trials but in the end was rewarded by byt the Virgin Mary with one final pool meet. While Mariya tried to sabotage Kanako, Sachi delivered President Kanako a glorious victory when Shizu experienced a wardrobe malfunction. I like how Kanako sought to aggressively end the Mariya tyranny over her life and it seems that Shizu is fully behind President Kanako as Shizu was un-phased by Kanako’s preemptive strike; by all accounts it was indeed shock and awe. Words cannot convey the glory of this finale.

Final Thoughts:

I agree with Calawain the lack of forced drama was a wise decision and bearing witness to Kanako’s prodigious and legendary imagination and capacity for detailed fantasy was a delight from start to finish. Mariya was deliciously evil through out and perhaps one day we can finally see the fruit of President Kanako’s labor now that Yuzuru, Honoka, and Kiri seem to be willing servants of the Yuri Republic. Such a shame we could not see Kanako and Shizu BE FRIENDLY but another time perhaps, maybe then Sachi will make her move as she was displeased at the idea that Kanako had gone hetero on us. While Kanako did not level up to Chikane class it was more than compensated for with her powers of imagination that rivaled Hosaka. Even if it wasn’t deep it was at least a fun ride and something that I looked forward to every week and there were moments that had me in stitches. Final Grade: A-

Well it turns out it was a case of blue on blue…

And all was forgiven as Kanako would take responsiblity for ruining Shizu for marriage.

Unfortunately this brings us to the penultimate episode of Maria+Holic. On the other hand it was blessedly hilarious and somewhat insulting to Catholic priests (something I don’t really have a problem with~). Of course it shouldn’t be too unusual that a Catholic priest would go for an underage male right?! Hohohoho.

I knew this episode was going to go in a wonderful direction when the opening scene was a priest talking about falling in love with a trap. And when that trap is Mariya, you know good things would come of it. I was not disappointed.

I can’t blame the man for falling for him/her. As Mariya notes, one cannot help but be entranced by beautiful things, especially when their beauty holds a deep, forbidden truth regarding some family jewels.

Whoa whoa there buddy. Large breasts are unecessary? I’m sorry, but I had respect for you since you fell in love with Mariya, but you are losing ground with such comments. Large breasts are wonderful, Kanako is lovely. As a hot blooded American male I must say, “oppai banzai!”

See the title of this entry, God certainly did defeat the priest this week. God isn’t one of my favorite characters in the show really, but she certainly provided some humor this week. She seems to have quite a few fans however, considering how the voting went on our favorite character poll. I was surprised how many there were.

Like the episode where Kanako had running internal monologues through most of the episode, I was amused by the Father’s ramblings at first, but later soured. After awhile the same gag gets repetitive.

So it seems that Father Kanae is really that no good Lyle in disguise, and while most of the school has yet to identify the threat he poses Mariya and Kanako remain vigilant though Mariya being the oppressor that he is puts poor Kanako in the line of fire when deep down Lyle likes boys dressed as girls after all he is a Dylandy, even if he operates under the alias of Kanae. Poor Kanako maybe capable of uprooting full grown oaks but men are like kryptonite to her and she is rendered powerless, while Sachi is helping out Kanako with homework the vile Lyle assaults Kanako who passes out from the lose and fail. Still it seems the faculty has taken a liking to Kanako as Tonamura sensei and Fumin were annoyed that they could not give Kanako some three way lurvin to revive as the no good false priest was there. Thankfully God is there to keep Lyle from getting out of hand and extorts quite a haul from him, though I would have been happier if God then demanded a PS3 too.

It was a funny episode as I derived limitless joy at watching a Catholic Priest lusting after a boy. The extortion was excellent though what really piqued my curiosity was that Fumin and Tonamura seemed to have been very FRIENDLY I am sure they wanted to something special for Kanako to bring her spirits up. It also seems that Kanako isn’t into onee-sans but seems to be a member of the imouto admiration society, given how Sachi seems to adore Kanako I suppose that Kanako’s specialty is in winning the hearts and minds of the young otome. Still poor Ayarin seems to have entered the line of fire. Ah well once this meddlesome priest is dealt with Thomas Becket style…

After some childish antics, we finally get to this week’s release. There was much rejoicing. Did you know that “defenestrate” means to throw something or someone out of a window? I didn’t until I watched this episode.

I remember as an undergrad back at UCSD, there was nothing better than the first day of the Spring Quarter (near the end of March). That day, all the fine ladies put away their “winter” (if one can call it that in SoCal) clothes and out popped all sorts of wonderful items. Ah, good times.

A common mistake…

Frankly…that’s a bit scary. Matsurika giggling like a school girl? And what the hell, she’s actually in school? Perhaps a maid uniform is some sort of alternate school uniform that I wasn’t aware of…it must be thoroughly investigated.

For the most part, perverted characters in anime are relegated to side character status, who merely provide comic relief. When they are male they get beaten up or ignored to some degree, and the female perverts are rarer and even more marginalized. It is rather refreshing and frankly, awesome, to have a female pervert as a main character. Add that to the fact that said character constantly indulges in her fantasies for maximum hilarity. I love this show.

Why don’t you try what worked for Kanako before, pretending that you have a girlfriend? Mmmmm, perhaps it would be too repetitive. But I’d enjoy it…

So it seems that the angel cosplay party went off fairly well and president Kanako is delighted that summer uniforms are now out in force. Sadly since Mariya sabotaged her studies Kanako did not pass her exams but passed chemistry and civics with flying colors. Unlike those hated over achievers like Mariya who keep throwing off the curve Kanako is my kind of student that drags the curve mercilessly. If nothing else Kanako has all of her smarts where it counts in civics as she will one day found the Yuri Republic and create a chemical cocktail to combat any male invasion of her republic. Besides failing physics is not so bad, after all if it smells it is chemistry, if it moves it is biology, and if it doesn’t work it is physics… Kanako is clearly creating an Agent Orange for men and crafting the perfect perfume to make millions. Still Kanako is making inroads as she drew a giggle from Matsurika who is cracking under Kanako’s charm. Sachi-san is already a believer and tries to help her hauptmann though Yuzuru is resisting with increasing futility over who will be leader of their harem. Nevertheless in the end despite Mariya’s attempts at sabotage Kanako passes her make up exams. Kiri-san also passed and it seems that Kiri at least has something in common with her President. Sachi is Kanako’s shield and she does try her best to help Kanako, while Yuzuru is falling increasingly towards jealousy as Kanako has achieved in mere months what she was unable to do in years.

Kiri is later accosted by some male brute who tries to bring about her downfall, but through the efforts of Kanako and her harem they successfully defend Kiri-san from the male assault with the aid of Honoka It seems that Honoka is tsundere after all and while she will never openly admit it wants to join Kanako’s harem too but is still too tsun tsun to admit or stay for very long. In the end Sachi ambushes Kiri-san’s would be admirer and takes from him a couple war trophies which she brings as a gift to President Kanako. So far it seems that President Kanako has been preparing to create her Yuri Republic by excelling in Civics and trying to create a chemical weapons stockpile for massive retaliation against any future transgression from belligerent men. Sachi is amply demonstrating her loyalty to Kanako as Kanako’s charm offensive slowly reduces the paltry resistance of Matsurika and Kiri-san. Clearly Matusirka is taking far too much of an interest in Kanako for it to be merely casual, I believe to be nothing more than a bid for attention. Yuzuru is trying to hold out but her cause is already lost as Sachi is an ardent supporter of the Kanako cause. Honoka finally returned to aid Kanako in the defense of Kiri-san’s honor and remind them of the evils of nasty Japanese men who lust after school girls.

So Kiri-san also has Yuri-side powers like Kanako…at least two there are…

I recommend Sachi as head of the YSA.

For she will be the loli-angel that guards the Yuri Republic.

So the day has finally come for Kanako’s long awaited cosplay party, sadly Mariya likes to be a buzz kill and starts showing off his girly man legs, which have set fire to the loins of otaku everywhere. Mariya seems to think that Kanako’s abnormality is a bad thing and Matsurika thinks she is so very smart, good to see she used her Ph D to become a maid. Even if Kanako is not normal, being normal is overrated and I much like to keep Kanako as the yuri powered Hosaka equivalent as she is. No matter what Mariya does he will never disarm Kanako of her hopes and dreams. Mariya is busy making life hard ofr Ayarin and it seems that since Maryia was a little shotaro trap that he was disrobing Ayarin. Clearly God does not favor any sort of reconciliation, though in his good graces did let Kanako witness an Ayarin full frontal…indeed there can be miracles when you believe. I look forward to seeing Ayarin in that dress again when she marries Kanako, we’ll just have to make sure that it will be made of military grade materials supplemented with Kevlar.

Oh Kanako just loves to play with children.

Prime Minister Ryuuken further expanded upon the special relationship between year 3 and year 2 by trying to warn Kanao of incoming loli angels. It was a success and Kanako had much merry making with the children, who looked adorable by the way. Kanako also helped out Kiri-san but Kiri did not want to cosplay, at least now it seems all is well as Kiri-san now fully accepting of Kanako and her Hosaka-like fantasies. President Kanako’s feats are already the stuff of legend as she is founded seven mysteries of her own. Kanako is not only taller, faster, stronger, nigh indestructible, and all round better than Mariya, but now has a saga of her own whereas the trap is only a pretty face who can barley hold up a woman with his puny girly man arms. Kanako eagerly anticipates the opening of the pool and can already see her harem in their school swim suits as well as Kuma-tan sensei and Tonomura-sensei. Oh yes it was glorious that Honoka has not been forgotten and Kanako has learned to use proper Linnaean taxonomic structure in classifying her harem. It was alos revealed that Kanako is also a Shugo Chara fan and likest to see girls do the hop, step, jump… So Mariya tries to throw Kanako under the bus, though I assume that now that Kanako has unlocked another achievement that she will now get access to some special war gear from God’s closet of lost artifacts.

Matsurika got tired of Kanako frolicking and is plainly jealous that Kanako is going for every girl but her, as such her basket ball ended the Kanako Fantasy. At least we know that there is a bit of Krauser II in Kanako and she does show some self restraint. Since Jesus loves Kanako (this I know, cuz the Bible tells me so) Ayarin came to her rescue and gave Kanako a NICE ANGLE. At the field hospital Kanako questions get a bit rebellious, but Ayarin being Kanako’s comrade takes no offence and seems to like Rebellious Kanako as much as I do. So it seems that President Kanako was innocent after all though she did confess to have hopes and dreams involving black lingerie, I like her honesty. Kanako even went on to troll Honoka for her insolence, and it is obvious that Honoka cannot match the might of Kanako’s yuri lust. Since Kiri-san is playing hard to get Momoi-chi has been trying to lay the ground work for Kanako’s harem by giving Kiri-san bridal training, it’s brilliant I say. Momoi-chi is most zealous in her protection of Kanako’s objectives and constantly baits Kiri-san and Yuzuru. Mariya fans got what they wanted though the melancholy of Yuzuru was suffocating. Thankfully though Momoi-chi remains the source of genkiness that has helped build Kanako’s Harem. Clearly Momoichi is very much aware of what Kanako wants, and is setting herself up to be the head mistress of the harem. She even fed Kanako, though the food could use some work.

Kanako’s fantasies were limited this time around but I did enjoy what she was able to concoct this time with Kiri-san feeding Momoi-chi. I applaud President Kanako for realizing what was the most important thing those school files should have contained namely the three sizes Name, Rank, and SSN. Clearly Kanako is ready and able to run a proper Yuri State. The birthday party was a signal of how all is well as Yuzuru was very forgiving while Momoi-chi elegantly and efficiently provided cover for President Kanako who plum forgot about the occasion. Since they all had much applause to give Kanako what ever her special talent was it must have had something related to Mako-cakes since Kanako’s élan was gloriously similar to how Mako-cakes approached his first transformation. I has hoped that Kanako would ding Seikan Hikou and make is so moe they died, but another time I suppose. In the end they were all BEING FRIENDLY and forgiving though now I am curious what special talent Kanako has been practicing in the late hours of the night. Let us hope that the worst is behind us and that Yuzuru will be happy from now on and not worry. Momoi-chi seems to be making excellent progress in bringing Kiri-san into the harem and Kiri-san is integrating nicely, as the worries of Yuzuru were smoothed over. At least President Kanako learned the BEING FRIENDLY requires GUTS and grit so I eagerly anticipate this new powered up Kanako. Kanako also seems to have learned to roll with the punches that Mariya doles out and has sucked out most of Mariya’s fun I am sure.

Ah well someday Ryuuken-sama will be Kanako’s Sword, but for now Momoi-chi is Kanako’s Shield.

Notice how Kiri-san is now part of the crew waving at her, to be President is Glorious. Ryuuken-sama made a minor appearance and it seems that God has willed that Ryuuken-sama’s height be matched with Kanako’s, I assume that they are fated to be. It seems that Kanako is not quite yet finished growing into the flower of her maidenhood and gets taller and bustier as the years pass. Given her love for Macross Kanako might be destined to be a meltran, given that she is showing leadership potential if Kanako gets a VF-25 she will be Milia in all but name, though with a very pronounced lesbian identity. Besides even if Kanako gets 50 feet tall we can still micronize her so she can BE FRIENDLY with her classmates.

Next time Kanako is on the verge of expulsion, though I am sure Ryuuken-sama will save her like she always tries to. Though failing that Kanako and Shizu can spend many hawt nights of yuri passion for three years.

This episode had a dreadful lack of Mariya, replaced by the often annoying antics of Ryuuken. And then there’s Shaft, who decided to really lay the photoshop filters and other random crap on thick throughout most of the episode. However…Mariya was wearing a maid uniform. OH YES.

I don’t know if I can imagine many better ways to wake up in the morning then by a beautiful blonde maid. Now the problem would arise if said maid was sporting morning wood. Kind of scary when you really think about it.

Who needs detailed backgrounds when you can put random ass colors! I’m sure it saves them quite a bit on the budget and it makes them look “artsy” as well!

I can think of a few things

This episode came in as the weakest so far, mainly because I found most of it lacked humor. Ryuuken’s character doesn’t particularly interest me aside from being an occasionally mentioned side character, and we had to sacrifice precious Mariya airtime for it. I’d look forward to next week if the previews actually meant something I could understand. Entry was a bit short this week, been pretty busy. As a side note, my blogging of Toradora is on hold for now due to the fact I’m losing interest in it rapidly.

Such a pity that Kanako’s harem was not so easily established, though at least I can enjoy Kanako’s fantasies as Hosaka seems to have gotten less ribald as of late. I reject Mariya’s reality and substitute Kanako’s. BEST HOT POT EVAR. As for Kanako’s Chihiro cosplay, it was sad that she took a beating, but I suspect the blood of meltrans also flows within Kanako’s veins as her recovery was swift. At least Kanako got to spend the night with Ryuuken-sama and got Kiri-san to confess again. Good to see that Kanako did not get too mopey over it. I am sure her yuri lust will help bring Ryuuken-sama and Kiri-san back into the fold.

Say what you will about Kanako, but she certainly has some real nice fantasies in that yuri filled head of hers. I like Ryuuken-sama’s kendo outfit quite a bit and look forward to the day when Ryuuken-sama and Kanako can spend the night alone. Honoka still has more plans though with any luck it will force Kiri-san to take drastic measures to help Kanako-out, like a kiss, or perhaps going even farther…like something Kanako cannot tell her mother in heaven. I hope Kanako tries to help out Kiri-san and Ryuuken-sama out since she could BE FRIENDLY with them and build her yuri harem the proper way. I have to hand it to Shaft though since they are giving me plenty to be happy about with Kanako’s fantasies, though Calawain is too hung up on Mariya. Her inner monologues here are hit or miss. I find the occasional one humorous, especially the ones last week when Mariya joined in to mess with her, but the detective ones for this week’s episode were rather lame and unfunny.

Oh I’d definitely hit the megane-chan, daily. The most hilarious part of this scene was the Rocky-like music playing in the background. I was ready to head on over to Philly and run up some stairs.

So is this supernatural stuff like the alaria monster and the weird monster/aliens in Kanako’s bag something that’s in the original manga material or is it just SHAFT hitting the drugs again? Curious minds want to know because it feels kind of out of place.

And the harem grows…quite awesomely I might add. It looks like we’ll get some fun yuri harem action for some time to come before we have to fall back to the hetero story. Keep up that harem growth Kanako, I salute you!

Letting Kanako on the loose was enjoyable for me, and thus did the yuri harem expand to a wonderful degree. Even if poor Kanako has earned the jealous attentions of the Ryuuken-sama fan club at least my yuri-hime is eating well, it’s almost as if for Kanako every day is sea food Friday at the chow hall. Seeing as how Kanako is of a more humble family she is by no means rich. However, the Virgin Mary has blessed Kanako with the budding affections of Sachi-san, so perhaps one day Kanako might marry Sachi-chan and live comfortably for the rest of her life without fear of Mariya’s millions. If nothing else unlike most spineless sacks of shit male and female Kanako is taking her bullying in stride. I think I’ve watched the OP about 10 times by now, it’s rather addicting. Regardless, if you have the same strange tastes as me you must watch this show. So far it’s the best comedy out this season. Plus you are allowed to fap to the trap, and you don’t have to rhyme while doing so.

My first reaction to the OP was, “wow, where can I get some of whatever these guys are on?” But then I strangely became addicted to it. I dig Yu Kobayashi’s singing voice, and I was really surprised to hear her going solo. The tracks she did on the various Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei music CDs turned me onto her great singing voice. The pace of the song and the out there animation of the OP help define this show as way out of the norm. So many lovecoms and bishoujo anime have the same cheesy-type pop songs with sakura petals or fluttering school uniforms. The OP helps define this show as something out of the ordinary, and it’s wonderful.

Crusader and I were highly excited at the prospect of an actual yuri harem, but as well all know this really isn’t to be in the end. The yuri is somewhat of a plot device to get to the hetero end. However, I will be able to derive some enjoyment out of their mocking of shows such as Marimite.

There is so much nastiness amongst the characters in this show and I love it. For the same reasons I love the fights between Ami and Taiga in Toradora I’m really looking forward to possible sparring between Mariya and her osana najimi. The foul language that both seem to employ right off the bat spells some serious future awesomeness.

Personally, I’m a big fan of the big racks. A superb second episode that has definitely hooked me for the long run. I had watched the first episode multiple times in the long break between the first and the second in anticipation. You really can’t go wrong with moe traps, lesbians, and trash-talking deadpan maids. Definitely picking this one up for the season.

Perhaps it’s the alcohol, but I am not liking this Mariya fellow, I my mind I cannot help but wonder how great it would be if the raging lesbian that is Kanako was let loose upon the school with a Federation Permit. Still since it is plain that Mariya cannot see the greatness of mammary glands I here by revoke his manhood, he’s a classic example of an infiltrator that was lost in his role. Let the fate of Mariya be a lesson to Mako-cakes, mammary glands are the most wonderful thing in the world for God made them so that babies can be fed in their infancy no matter the economic climate, and without the female bosom I doubt we should ever see babies ever again, that would be a tragedy as children make the world a brighter place. I do however have much praise for Kanako in pursuing her yuri lover, whoever that and however many there may be. I fear that in the end we might be saddled with a hetero ending, but I keep out a small flame of hope that Mariya gets a gender reassignment operation and we get a BEST END for Kanako which would be a yuri harem. With any luck this age gap might prove a saving grace as it prevents Mariya from interdicting Kanako when she starts making passes at Ryuuken-sama, Kiri-an, Yuzuru, or Momoi-chi.
