And the harem lives happily ever after. The end.

Well we all knew a silly and really “meh” ending was coming because that’s how these shows always end. There was less ecchi this time, but that is uh, somewhat made up for by the DVD extra releases that also came out. More on that at later in this entry.

Continuing from last weeks EPIC CLIFFHANGER, most of this episode swung around through light melodrama drudgery that’s mostly forgettable. Frankly, we knew they were going to hook up and that they just had to come up with some drama to end the series.

Well we know who wears the balls around this classroom, Tayura gets his woman to go out on a date with him. Although it’s a really boring place for a teenage guy (by the way I enjoy art museums, but I’m 24 and uh, cultured or something) to have a date.

You know, I could have taken the screenshot for this scene from the front showing the girls doing the broke twins hair, but why should I do that when I can do it like this? I think I would do a disservice to the show if I avoided ecchi shots, and I want to keep with my standards I’ve used throughout. *sagenod*

Haha, ok. The side characters in this show are pretty funny at times. I guess they see big boobs and “girl who buys them food” and think “Mama!”

I really wanted to punch the kid through my monitor right here. Freaking hot and sexy big breasted woman who you really like wants to have sex with you and you act like you are being waterboarded. *Sigh* A couple of humorous notes though. First, how awesome is that cheesy porn music they played during this scene? It’s not the first time they’ve used something similar. And finally all I could think of as this scene was ending is that she ran out of the room without her panties on. I’m a degenerate perv, aren’t I?

Took long enough FFS. I had to sit through all of that crap just for that? Lame.

Ah Nozomu, you didn’t really have a chance to start but at least you put up a good fight. And like in any proper harem show you leave it open for polygamy.

The only thing I can really say about this last episode is “it could have been worse.” We only had to suffer through one episode of melodrama throughout the entire 12 episodes for the most part, so I can consider us lucky. I’ll accept it and move on, I wasn’t expecting anything dramatic or story revealing anyways.

Eizou Tokuten- DVD Extras

You may remember how I previously reported that the DVD releases will be even more like softcore porn. Well I haven’t seen any DVD rips of episodes, but someone put out the DVD extras and uh yeah, you could say they went a bit beyond. Basically the first of the two short clips has some stills mixed in with some really crisp looking animation of Chizuru in various states of dress and undress. Just to warn you before someone complains, both of these extras show bare nipples. The second involves both Chiziru and Nozomu getting naked and rubbing on Kouta with sound effects. Cold showers all around gentlemen.

Final Impressions

I’d have to say that I generally enjoyed Kanokon throughout. I didn’t expect Shakespeare coming in and didn’t get any in return. What I did get was ecchi for the sake of ecchi. The show didn’t bother to try and fit a plot in like so many other shows, with only passing references to the underlying plot of the novels in order to keep things somewhat fresh. The writers knew what they wanted to accomplish and did so, entertaining us often by pure shock value. It was such blatant pandering fanservice and ecchi that I was just blown away by how awesome it was. Now admittedly some of the shock factor wore off after a bit, and they often had to try and come up with new ways to cross that proverbial line and shock us again. Highlights of such efforts are the two best scenes of the series- the spanking of episode three and the “cake” licking of episode nine.

The show was often hilarious for the shock value as well as just how corny and blatanly sexual Ayako Kawasumi’s (Chiziru) lines were. But the side characters drove a lot of the humor as well. Tayura and the poor twins had several good moments of humor, and there was the irreverant Yuki, always quick to find amusement in the antics of the Great Erotic King. Aside from episodes nine and three, probably the most humorous part of the series was the cosplay demon in episode four. I mean, can you ever forget Akane dressed in a nurse outfit while her legs are being forced open as she screams out “iiiyyyaaaaaaaa!!!!?”

It wasn’t all gravy though, the series suffered from poor animation quality that was due more I’m sure to an extremely low budget than anything else. And as the shock value of some of the borderline softcore porn parts wore off I found it less enjoyable. Finally, as I said before the ending episode was pretty weak and forgettable.

Overall though, I’d give it an 8.5 just for novelty. It managed to surprise us on many occasions by pushing just how far you could go on TV (even when airing at 10:30am Saturdays). It definitely gave us something unique and different in that regard. Recommended to any hardcore perv or other fans of fanservice anime.

Bad Nozomu!

For time constraint reasons and the fact that I’m out of town on my laptop for a family gathering, my posting time has been limited this week. What time I had I needed to update the Summer Preview and my Geass post of the week. So episode 10 of Kanokon got scrapped and I’m doing a double episode post here. Next week I plan on doing the series finale like normal so don’t despair!

Episode 10

Not quite as funny or admirable as Great Erotic King, but also warrants a salute. The man will do anything to bring back those bountiful breasts, and as fellow men we must acknowledge his dedication. And Rollzomu…lol =/ The Japanese onomatopoeia for fondling is awesome btw.

This is one of the few scenes in Kanokon that was really funny without referencing boobs and something perverted. The broke twins are pretty cute and funny, especially in this scene. This isn’t the first story in which food has won women over to one’s side either. I liked the eye effects too, even if they looked cheap at times.

Hah, a really poorly animated fight scene but it’s not like they have the budget for anything else. Was kinda funny seeing all the other spirits in spirit mode, although really lame having emo boy/girl Nue just wipe the floor with them.

Was kinda dissapointed in how brief Nozomu was in wolfu mode, I thought she was going to be kicking some ass, not just getting tied up for a few seconds. Boo.

We got a LOVE POWER moment and then an ok animation quality fight which was entertaining to watch. I knew eventually Kouta was going to have to kick this baddie’s ass, but I was kinda surprised that he turned into 9 tailed fox trap shouta. I’m sure this means something plot wise, but with only one episode left (11 had zero plot) I’m not expecting the imouto to come back nor much in the way of plot revealed.

Episode 11

Mmmmmm, yeah. Sorry guys but I’m not a DFC guy so I really couldn’t find myself excited about this. I appreciate Chizuru more so I’ll leave Nozomu to her fans. But it was certainly…an inventive way of using band-aids.

Holy mother of monstrosity those are huge. It’s nice to see our resident MILF back in action, I give it my stamp of approval.

The boob animation was a little weird in the scene before this with just Chizuru and Kouta, gave them some bounce against the laws of physics. However, never missing a chance for oil rubbing, you knew it was coming when they finally got around to a beach episode.

Good for you Tayura, your tsundere queen is giving you some dere dere love. Score! I like the guy so I was always rooting for him, despite his bad taste in women. I like tsunderes in general, but she’s pretty annoying so she’s not really my type.

Ahhhhhh silly relationship drama go away please! The whole moping Chizuru and this crap I could definitely do without. But in these types of shows they have to end the series with some sort of resolution after a conflict of the heart unfortunately. I’m just hoping it’s not too horrible and I’ll be able to survive it.

Next Episode:
Final episode, but the preview gave us no clue what’s going on except a passed out Kouta with some goo on him!

Kudos to you, producers of Kanokon, you have managed to bring back all the things I love about this show in one episode and make up for the last couple of meh episodes. In fact, you managed to show stuff even more inappropriate for television than ever before, continually finding a new line to cross. I salute you.

Despite the opening, this is not an imouto episode, although this girl refers to Kouta as onii-chan. Not totally sure what to make of her at this point, aside from the fact that she’s one messed up little girl and has a spirit following her around beating the crap out of people. Whether she’s Kouta’s actual sister has yet to be determined.

Side characters with names I may even remember, woo! These girls were kind of amusing in how bad they were at being ninjas, and of course the poor jokes. I find the banjo music or whatever the hell that country-sounding beat is that they played during this scene to be really funny for some reason.

Never miss an opportunity for panty shots, even more subtle ones such as this.

So dumb but so damn funny, I nearly literally rofl’d, yes I did. I mean for a gimmick on an ecchi show it’s pretty creative I think, because boobs are Chizuru’s main asset so to speak.

I’m in despair! My lack of breasts has left me in despair!

Kouta knows it too, the dissapointing loss of such a wonderful rack. Even if he’s a shouta he is still a man, and a man who loves big boobs. This loss is very traumatizing to all of us Great Erotic King, we must all beg for mercy.

Please someone explain to me how the top of Chizuru’s ass is “cake.” I mean I found it really really funny, but in a “yeah I know it’s supposed to be perverted but I don’t get it.” Cake is soft, creamy, and moist, adjectives I wouldn’t describe that part of Chizuru as. If you readers wish to take a gander feel free, nobody reads these entries except for fellow pervs so don’t worry.

I reeeeeaaaallllyyyy wanted to put this as the main shot to go on the front page. However, somehow I held off and put something more work safe. But this image, as no other can, just begs the caption, “itadakimasu.”

And he actually did it, a little applause everyone for the man of the hour. He came in, said “I am man,” and got to work licking his woman. Lordy I was laughing so damn hard that I couldn’t have fapped if I wanted to. The final few minutes were pure awesome, bringing back memories of the best scene ever, the spanking scene from episode three. Holy shit, I need a cold shower…or two.

I have managed to tear myself away from the recently released PC version of Mass Effect long enough to write this entry. Part of the problem was the fact that this episode wasn’t particularly exciting, titillating or interesting. It merely gave me a reaction of meh. Thankfully next week’s episode (which has already aired) promises to be perverse, deviant, and full of all those good things I enjoy.

Good to see the guys at Ayako were thinking along the same lines as I was.

Loli in a bath. This show certainly has a lot of lolis. Anyways, these people are probably important plot wise given the random mysterious shots of them and some of the suggestive lines by other characters. I know you guys watch this show for the plot, right?

Weekly dose. And no, unimportant friend to the awesome Yuki, a mere sliding door is hardly enough to contain the beast that is the Great Erotic King. You may get pregnant through the wall, be careful.

The hell is going on here, what’s up with the ducks

That didn’t take long. Well a few things are revealed about Chizuru and her mother but not fully explained. She’s not her real mother, but happens to be a fox as well, and they became family by some “twist of fate” 400 years ago, of which we are not told. They are alike in a few ways however, it didn’t take long before Chizuru’s mother was rubbing Kouta’s crotch and then rubbing her rack against his back. What a pimp this kid is, freaking lucky shoutas.

This whole “crisis” was pretty lame and had me rolling my eyes. It was really predictable and another “test” of their love or whatever. One hopes we don’t have more of these things before the show is over, just have spankings and other naked activities already. The love power here is a bit weak.

Oh god, if only. Masterfully setup trick writers, damn you to hell. I bet Yuki would do it too, she’s not restricted by normal standards of decency. Tauyra on the other hand, was pretty damn funny trying to get Asahina drunk and in love with him. I can’t help but root for the guy, he tries really hard and he seems like a cool, down-to-earth fellow for a spirit. Good luck bud.

Looking good there Chizuru

I was recently reminded that this show airs at 10:30am on Saturday mornings in Japan. No wonder it’s become like the #1 show for like 10 year olds, I mean holy crap if I could have watched this instead of Captain Planet when I was 10 I certainly would have. I’d be like “OMG BOOBIES AND PANTIES.” Japan amazes me sometimes, because they censor panties or blood in Hayate no Gotoku, but they show this in all it’s glory during Saturday morning cartoon time.

As hinted at in last week’s preview, this week we have the New Years matsuri episode. I will say first off that Chizuru looks quite delicious in that. But after that we have to remember where this show comes from after the last two weeks of light Chizuru x Kouta alone and in heat content. Going back to their roots to start this one off.

A fun thing about this episode was the rabu rabu that the side characters were engaging in or trying to engage in. While we knew Chizuru’s brother had a thing for iinchou early on, he’s starting to build himself up, only to get ignored later on in favor of her unrelenting drive to promote morals. Even the wind weasel kid and the loli in a tub got some time alone to blush and smile at each other. Awwwwwww.

One wonders if this double meaning also holds in Japanese, because I know exactly what popped into my mind when I first read that line… Anyways, this scene brings back memories of Yume Miru Kusuri, although that wasn’t under a kotatsu and they uh, actually finished the deed. Chizuru does share some traits with Mizuki, she’s pretty aggressive in getting what she wants. Man, that game was awesome, I should go play it again.

I’m going to once again wonder why school swimsuits are popular with otaku. I really think they look kind of ugly, I’d much rather see a girl in a bikini than one of those ugly things. The naked apron I can definitely go for though, without the swimsuit underneath.

Score a few points for Chizuru with the obviously made up consequences of the game amplified by her own spirit powers. The taped on “make love to the person in front of you” spots were a nice touch as well, I giggled. As I was watching this I was wondering when the DFC wolfu was going to show up, and low and behold she did.

I have no idea if this seiyuu can actually do a character with emotion, but lordy she does a great sarcastic deadpan. Funniest part of the episode by far and requires little explanation. She seems to have a uh, lack of nipples though, they aren’t covered by the subtitles so don’t bother trying.

Ummmm, I really can’t think of anything clever here, too distracted

Buck up guys, there’s always next year

Weekly quota. A pretty well done New Year’s episode I’d have to say, as the show tries to keep itself fresh by putting them in different situations and well, outfits. I appreciate that fact, and the fact that they haven’t tried to delve much into actual plot, instead emphasizing these more one shot episodes with fun, ecchi, and comedy.

On another side note, Anime Nation reports that:

“Dengeki Online reports that the upcoming Japanese DVD release of the romantic comedy anime series Kanokon will be even more risqué than the Japanese television broadcast and internet broadcast versions, which have already caused a stir because of their “ecchi” content. The first Kanokon DVD is scheduled for Japanese release on June 25th.”

Frankly I didn’t think it was possible to go even further without becoming porn, but I for one certainly look forward to the producer’s attempts to accomplish that. If nobody will do it for me I’ll rip the subs myself if I can find the DVD raws…

Looks like a new character at the start, probably a plot device of some sort. Voice over didn’t really add anything.

Trap battlin animu!

Extended combat sequences, glomping only existing for 10 percent of the show? What the hell show have I fallen into?! This week wolf-niisan comes and starts some trouble, and some sort of plot exists. However, somehow it’s not entirely horrid, it’s actually quite survivable.

Right out of the box they made sure they made their weekly requirement of a scene where Kouta and Chizuru almost have sex. Unfortunately Saku (wow, is that really a guy’s name?) comes and interrupts their fun. This was one of the few scenes of the borderline softcore porn we’ve come to expect from Kanokon. It kind of started last week which had significantly less, and really came aobut this week. The sexual content was mostly limited to the beginning and very end.

Eh, while certainly fitting for a show with so much sex in it, the whole idea of the abstinence bracelet was still kind of silly. He’s going to die if he gets an erection? Meh. Although it is vastly more interesting then when Kimiaru tried to come up with a plot regarding Yume. I almost wanted to shoot myself watching that crap. I’ll buy it for now Kanokon, I’ll at least let you try and get me interested in the plot because there are hints of something mildly interesting at the end.

I did find Saku incredibly annoying. For a supposedly cool and tough biker guy, using a bracelet trick as a way to get your woman is exceedingly lame. You are supposed to show how tough you are and all that business, try being more like GTO, the most bad-ass biker character ever.

Why is he folding her panties…does he seriously do her laundry like that?

Weekly Great Erotic King quote. I really don’t blame Kouta for feeling lonely without his huge breasts…er Chizuru around. When you get used to such a lively lifestyle such a sudden loss of it can make you feel down. Especially sad were those shots of Kouta eating lunch by himself looking ronery. Poor kid needs his boob fix. Chizuru’s reactions were similarly fairly predictable but also understandable. She needs her shouta fix after all, some girls are into that.

I’ll give points to Tayura here, I really wasn’t expecting him to round up a posse and fight him. I was equally surprised that they actually had extended battle scenes. Now, granted they were of poor animation quality compared to actual fighting anime, but I give them points for trying. They really just don’t have the money for real combat. Definitely a plus for having something different, and there is obviously more story to the world of Kanokon we haven’t seen yet. The little guy we saw before is apparently some sort of weasel, to go along with the foxes and wolves.

Huge!

Obvious future plot hints, some shady folks are interested in the Kouta/Chizuru gattai of ownage. Like I said before, until a show like this completely ruins itself with horrid plot I give them the benefit of the doubt. Kimiaru started off really strong just like Kanokon with a lot of fun and ecchi. However, the middle third was heavily mired in crap, melodrama, and pathetic plot attempts. In the end, it recovered to a degree with Shinra love. We’ll see if Kanokon is able to at least make its plot bearable and I know the writers feel the need to include some of it, so I’m prepared that’s whats going to happen sometime in the future.

Matsuri episode? Chizuru and pals are in kimonos and visiting what appears to be a shinre, but it’s a bit hard to tell.

Nurse me

The “plot” this week involves Chizuru putting on a cursed bunny girl outfit that is the spirit of some sort of man-hating cosplay demon. It really didn’t make much sense but the result is your standard transforming outfits episode, which had its funny moments. The sexual fanservice was toned down to a degree in favor of cosplay and nosebleeds. That mouth was kinda creepy though…

We start with the borderline sexual assault in the gym storeroom. Usual flare here, Chizuru talking dirty and Kouta following along. This scene was pretty much the most racy part of the show and was fairly timid, at least compared to previous weeks. To be honest that’s fine, because you need to come up with something new to keep people watching. Seeing a shouta being assaulted has its limits. Thankfully they tried some other new stuff this week.

Ah, the fine art of pretending to listen to women. It’s a skill I’ve personally spent years honing and it’s an invaluable asset. Especially useful when you are watching sports, or just wishing you could eat your meal in peace. You’re o.k. in my book Tayura.

I have to admit the premise was kinda amusing, a bunny girl outfit that can’t be taken off. I also chuckled at her embarrassment when people were looking in the hallway and how Kouta was pitifully trying to keep everyone from looking. She does look quite delicious in that outfit though, with all those curves in the right places I’d help myself to a few glances.

This week we have a loli in a closet. Brought flashbacks of Ren living in a closet, although Ren was far from being loli. They threw in some Chizuru vs. Nozomu antics this week as well, but once again they kept it relatively small on comparison to the last two episodes. Which is also good because we needed a slight break.

Weekly salute to the best nickname/character title of the season. Goddammit I want to be the Great Erotic King. And Yuki is one of my favorite side character’s in this show, she always seem to enjoy herself and instigate matters.

Yeah I pretty much lost it with laughter in this scene. I mean the iinchou in a nurse outfit was pretty funny as it is, but then the demon forced her legs open and she screamed like that? My, my, my, they even make cosplay really dirty.

Wow, that’s certainly one way of killing it. Man that was disturbing.

Meido Nozomu was pretty hot, she can sit on my face any day.

Trap Kouta saves the day! Well the whole premise of the crazed, man-hating demon was kind of silly but it was something different to keep the show fresh. Overall I’d say that it wasn’t as funny or entertaining as the other three episodes have been, but it was decent. It is probably better than if they had just done the same stuff they had been doing before, because like I said it could get stale doing the same thing over and over. And from what I read there is actual semi-interesting plot in the source material so the future looks good.

Next Episode:
Nozomu’s brother returns, and something about a bomb being attached to Chiziru. No idea where that’s going.

I really don’t think there is a clever caption that would add to this scene

Going through the first two-thirds of this episode you’d wonder, “hey this is like some sort of cheesy lovecom show or a parody of such.” Well at some point the show forays into a minute of attempted plot and then straight back to naked oil rubbing and an array of spankings. I was scared for a bit there that I was watching the wrong show, but alas in the end all was good in the world.

Ah, the death knell, one of my favorite animation effects. It was a bit weird seeing Chizuru try the very girly homemaker route to win Kouta’s heart. Of course she’s horrible at household activities and makes the first of many attempts on Kouta’s life with her horrid cooking.

Well we can categorize the first 2/3 of the episode into two categories- really cheesy and stupid romantic comedy hijinks and funny parodies. This part falls into the first category because on the first watch it made me roll me eyes rather than laugh, although Kouta gets a couple of man points for saying he’s happy she’s trying so hard from him. And I think this marks the first trip to school in which Chizuru’s breasts do not make contact with Kouta.

On the other hand Nozomu does make breast contact, and the tsundere/transfer student sequence falls under the funny parodies category. Now, I am a self-styled tsundere extraordinaire so I found myself laughing at Nozomu’s totally deadpan delivery of the obvious stereotyped lines such as the one pictured above. I did find the commentary from the other students to be kind of annoying, I didn’t need them to tell me what was going on but maybe some did.

The bento competition was kind a kind of amusing twist on the normal lovecom bento making. The two ladies pulled out their best weapons, deadly food and the guilt trip, but Kouta took the man’s way out and committed seppuku. I salute you Great Erotic King, my hero!.

Um, there was some plot here about spirits not being allowed to hang around humans and such, but I really wasn’t paying much attention. I think we crossed that line of “hanging out” with humans back in the first episode when Chizuru kissed and possessed Kouta.

Of course not, I’d never dream of it! Please don’t hurt me!

The iinchou basically tells Kouta to grow some balls and and tell Chizuru and Nozomu that they can’t cook or he’s going to be a corpse. Well, the iinchou sure has a lot of air time, despite the fact that her character is pretty boring so far. I’m a fan of iinchou characters but usually only when they are tsundere for the lead. And so far she is far from it.

Loli in a tub. Well, up to this point we seem to be trapped in some sort of regular lovecom show that I’ve seen a million times with a couple of funny twists. I was kind of afraid that the show was going to go down that route. Now fortunately, the show at this point decided that we’d had enough of that. So, they said “hey, can we think of something really really perverted in order to swing this show back to awesome?” The answer was “oh hell yes.”

And this was the solution, nearly naked full body oil rubbing. Personally, I was not aware that if you place a loli in a tub you can get her to secrete oil that requires you to give a full body rub to a shouta. That knowledge is now firmly planted in my brain. Ah, welcome back Kanokon, it was a short trip down lovecom lane.

Poor guy gets rubbed with body to body contact and the girls decide to have a foot fight and rub his package. Well, being a man he can’t really help himself, but instead of a slick and manly line he just gets all red in the face. Missed opportunities man, missed opportunities. By the way, I think the loli in the tub sat there the whole time and watched. Food for thought.

Well we had our oil rub and then the writers said, “well is it even possible to top that?” It turns out that yes it is possible to top that, and when Kouta said that he was going to spank Chizuru for being a bad girl I think it was all over for me. It was both extremely titillating and undoubtedly hilarious. I mean the fact that Chizuru obviously set this up and was encouraging him to spank her made it even better.

And when he said he was going to spank her he was dead serious, holy moly that was a loud spank. That thing echoed all over. 5,000 man points for you Kouta, even though you had to be tricked and coaxed into it, I really can’t remember the last time a non-porn male lead in anime actually spanked a girl raw. The fact that I was able to even write that last sentence is a testament to the Great Erotic King. Oh, and did I mention that he kept spanking her, even more man points for you sir! All hail Kouta!

Next Episode:
Nurse iinchou, bunny girl Chizuru, meido Nozomu, one expects the show is going to move onto perverse and degenerate portrayals of cosplay and culture fairs. Excellent.

Unless it’s a sexy fox spirit, then it’s ok.

I have to say, I haven’t laughed so hard during an episode of anime in quite awhile. They went so far beyond the normal line of common decency that I just couldn’t help but be giddy. Anyways, as promised last week, this episode introduces the deadpan DFC loli wolf spirit who also wants to jump Kouta’s bones. Much hilarity and almost sex follows. Fair warning to readers, I’m not going to hold back on the screenshots past the jumps in the entries for this series, and the broadcast version leaves little to the imagination.

Even if he doesn’t always act like it, Kouta is a man somewhere down in there and cannot resist Chizuru on occasion. However, like a properly wussy anime male lead he often runs away or is massively embarrassed. One of the irritating points of the series, but it’s nothing too unusual so I can generally gloss over it. In fact, I quickly got over it when Chizuru flashed Kouta her panties right in the middle of the street and I promptly fell out of my chair. Although, my reaction would have been somewhat different than running away looking terrified…

Well apparently the girl really likes her ribs. Of course Kouta gets guilted into almost paying for them, but in a rare feat in the world of anime, the woman actually ended up paying for it. Halt the freaking presses. Now a bit of, dare shall we say, “plot” here: Nozomu (wolf girl) was talking about Kouta at the beginning of the episode when talking with her brother. So one would assume Kouta is special in some way other than smelling like the wilderness.

Open my door whenever you feel like it!” See, this kind of stuff is why I was laughing the whole episode, I mean they really just don’t care and will just come out and say it. I’m amazed at how Ayako Kawasumi can deliver such sexual and flirtatious lines in such a believable fashion without breaking into laughter. She is so perfect for that role. And after that brilliant line, Chizuru even puts up a barrier so nobody can see them and once again attempts to have sex with him. Of course DFC loli has to come and freaking ruin it. But this is why I love this show, unabashed and perverted.

The Great Erotic King is my hero, you catty women are just jealous! Oh, and really obvious but hilarious timing on the DFC coming to glomp him right when they were about to concede that maybe he wasn’t the Great Erotic King. I knew it was coming but I still laughed, wonderful stuff this.

Man, this is so much more entertaining then your usual jealous looks and glances. There’s a reason men love cat fights, and the writers know this all to well.

With the massive spread of irritating lens flares and steam censoring, it’s good to see that one studio isn’t afraid of basically drawing everything but the nipples. It’s really something that’s doable, remember FMP Fumoffu?! In the hot springs episode they didn’t resort to lazy steam or lens flares, they took their time and covered juuuuuust enough. I appreciate the effort animators, even if it was in stills most of the fight scene. But even aside from this scene they try to avoid lazy tricks it seems, I’m grateful for it.

Good stuff again this week, they haven’t bothered with “plot” for now and kept doing more of the same from episode one but with a new character. I find the deadpan Nozomu to be entertaining because she is the complete opposite of Chizuru in more ways than bustline.

Well this was one of the shows I was waiting for this season, because I’m not exactly shy when it comes to my appreciation of a good fanservice lovecom romp. And as it turns out it pretty much ended up being what I expected for the first episode, and that’s a good thing because I was expecting a fun show like this =) No real attempt at a summary here this week, even by my Kimiaru standards. Instead have some tasty shots of things I found interesting, along with some unfunny, irrelevant captions and some impressions at the end for those curious about the series.

Song was standard faire, a light/rock alternative beat with lyrics about love that’s fairly common in these types of series. Animation was a bit weird, near the beginning where they had the three main characters walking along the arms were flopping in a very unnatural way. Other than that the animation quality was about the same as the rest of the show, and it cycled through animated shots of the rest of the cast as well as trap shouta and a naked Chizuru.

Impressions:

I’m hardly shy when it comes to sex and fanservice, so I jumped right into this one. I’m the type of guy that’s seen American Pie 5 times and loved it each time. I consider myself a fairly average 23 year old male, so a show like this doesn’t bother me in the slightest. However, if you are the type that for some reason is offended by sexual content then you probably want to stay away, because Kanokon shows no signs of letting up on it’s erotic nature.

That being said I think the sexuality and fanservice here was done pretty well when contrasted with a panty shot catastrophe like Rosario+Vampire. Now I have no inherent problem with panty shots, but I find them to be a rather lame form of fanservice without much creativity or sensuality. In Kanokon they waste no time with some hot, sloppy kisses that reminded me a bit of episode 4 of Genshiken, another situation where Ayako Kawasumi was making out with sound effects. Oh, and yeah they were about to have sex when her brother walked in too. This show is definitely not afraid to go there, and I give it my pervert’s stamp of approval in that regard.

Aside from the delicious looking characters, my primary attraction to this series before it aired was the all-star voice cast. Well, it may not be all-star to most people, but it has a handful of my all-time favorites including Mamiko Noto (Kouta), Ayako Kawasumi (Chizuru), and Chiwa Saitō (iinchou). I’d watch a lot of horrible shows if they had a voice cast like this, but the fact that the show is actually pretty good makes it even better. Character wise it’s hard to say so far, although I do like Chizuru’s forwardness. I’m a big proponent of girls who aren’t shy with how they feel over bitchy, jealous, and false characters (see Nemu, Elise, and Hiromi). Jury is still out on Kouta, he had some positive and negative adjustments to his man points. He was quite a bit shy at times, but he did engage in sloppy kisses without much resistance and was about to let Chizuru have her way with him when he got cockblocked by the brother. That being said he is kind of wimpy and way too shouta for me a lot of the time. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for now, go get em boy.

Mmmmm well the show has some sort of plot here that is somewhat revealed. I was a bit confused a bit because they threw in some timeskip there, which I was only able to figure out by how Kouta addressed Chizuru (Minamoto-san before the transformation scene, Chizuru-san after). If you notice in the opening shots of the school there is a big ass hole in the roof, well that was caused in the scene where Kouta first witnesses Chizuru transform, which happens in the latter half of the first episode. There’s also some shady looking old guys, teachers, and bratty students who will probably be the antagonists. Nothing particularly amazing so far, but I really wasn’t expecting to be blown away by the deep plot here.

Animation quality varied a bit, the opening shot after the OP took a nose dive in FPS as the random extras walking around had really bad facial movement. I didn’t mind too much, they seemed to save their budget for the Chizuru on Kouta scenes. I didn’t notice anything particularly bad considering this type of show, which rarely gets much of a budget.

Overall the show looks pretty good to me. I won’t decide on whether to cover this permanently until I’ve seen a bit more of the other shows, but there’s a good chance I’ll cover it.

Introduction of the obligatory DFC character, voiced by a complete newcomer to the seiyuu world. Oh, along with some more healthy breasts.
