Well this week’s FMA was certainly less exciting then I thought it was going to be. I was expecting more of a fight and less chatting and feeling sorry for yourself. At least next week we get to see Winry all grown-up. Mmmmmm, blondes.

That is one fucked up dream.

Ah, religious fanatics. Fucking nuts, all of em. Whether it is intentional or not (leaning toward yes considering the desert settings and other themes), the series does provide a running commentary on religious fanatics. It’s something that everyone who lives in today’s world should be knowledgeable about. Whether it’s far out Christians or far out Muslims, there’s a lot of issues out there to solve.

Well…he kind of got his dome punctured and was eaten by Gluttony if I recall correctly. And by the way, Envy’s androgyny always crept me out. He’s definitely not a delicious trap like Mariya, which is rather unfortunate because this show would be more enjoyable with Mariya in it.

Even MORE crazy religious nuts!

Oh, harsh words baby. He’s just a little gun shy when it’s wet out there. He really wants to do it, I swear!

Maybe that’s because you shouted out a warning right before you punched him.

While Scar’s fight with Ed and Al was rather one-sided, I was rather entertained (for the short while it lasted) by Armstrong’s battle with him. Made up somewhat for the majority of the episode where everyone was talking with their hands in front of their mouth or by a panning away to save on animation budget.

To me it always looked more like someone stuck an X-shaped branding iron into his face than having a scar.
Crusader’s Ministry of Propaganda
So it was time for ultimate X-Men fan Scar to really show his worthy and while I agree that it could have used more action I enjoyed most of it mostly due to Armstrong’s martial prowess. Watching that fight reminded me a little bit of Punch Out, but that is another issue entirely. I suppose having Ishbal now might make it a little more poignant though as always killing them and sending the souls of fanatics to meet a real God like Zeus/Mazinger Z is all you can really do for them. Really you’d follow a God named Leto who isn’t a Sandworm and who doesn’t make the spice flow? Some people are just plain stupid. While there was a lot of talk it was still amusing to hear Lust talk with Kikoku Inoue’s evil voice, I am still not used to hearing Envy as I am expecting to hear Patrick asking for a new mobile suit or something. Still the second best thing this time was Hawkeye saving Mustang’s bacon from Scar, impotent Roy is impotent. I think they could have used a bit more Hughes but another time perhaps. I am glad that they didn’t get too weepy as Scar crashed the second one and Alphonse would have none of it when Ed was batting for three.

armstrong-the boxing alchemist
just look at that awesome dodge!!!
“You couldn’t make me correctly, could you.”
I sense an ironic backstory involving the dad and mom here..
I had forgotten how awesome was Armstrong fighting.
I am liking this new FMA. I find the characters more enjoyable. I like the darker tone it is taking. The animation fits the show better than the original. I hope they keep up the good work. I think in this episode they showed more of how nasty Scar is. The parts were he kept Ed and Al off balance by destroying all the alchemy they were doing trying to get away was awesome. It just shows how relentless this guy is.
Great FMA episode. I was left wanting more. I nearly gagged on my morning cereal when I saw Mustang’s feeble little *puff* of smoke. Also, I really like the pacing of this FMA. This episode seemed to speed by.
Next week is gonna be awesome. Winry loves machines and she’s a cutie. My type of girl.
I thought the episode was high-quality kick-ass as usual, even if I liked the wet Roy scene better the first time around. Honestly, the interactions between Ed and Al were very well done, and, oh, Hughes, what would we do without you.
It was a superb episode. I just love how they mixed the humor and dark themes together without them being awkward or unnecessary.
Armstrong really demonstrated how alchemy was like a form of art while Scar contradicted that theory with his bloody deconstruction. Al and Ed brought their characters into a new perspective that despite their cool demeanor, they are still kids. Lastly, who didn’t laugh when Hawkeye tripped Mustang?
Nice episode with Armstrong’s awesome muscles versus the Terminator… I mean Scar’s right hand. Mustang failing in the rain was pretty funny too lol.
When you refer to the religious people as “fanatics” are you talking about all religious people as a whole or simply the ones in this show. I know some people need a higher power to look for answers and strength, but to refer to them as fanatics is a little extreme don’t cha’ think? However in the case that your just talking about the ones in this anime then here here, all to true.
Also looking forward to more FMA blogs in the future peace out.
I consider myself religious, and I’m not offended at taking potshots at ‘evil’ religious fanatics.
Of course, part of the problem is in truly defining what a fanatic is. Nationalistic *fanaticism* killed a hundred times as many people as did all of the Crusades COMBINED in World War I and World War II. You don’t necessarily need religion to qualify.
Hmm… fanatics can be religious or patriots or even ecologists. The problem is when leaders of religions, countries or organizations, say that the use of violence for spread their beliefs is fine. Also is true that avengers are not fanatics, religion, flag or security are just excuses for the never ending cicle of revenge.
The nightmare set enough well the mood for the encouter with Scar, the guiltiness, the lack of fighting spirit and the resignation to punishment. I think that they can used a lot less words and screen time. These episode talk to much, but at least is not the unintelligible talk of Gundam 00.
If only I didn’t care so much about voice acting, I’d follow this.
@Qwerty
Oh, that’s dirty haha.
@TorontoSyrup
I’m referring to the far out violent fanatics, not all religious people as a whole. I don’t have a problem with religious people in general.
@Manwiththemachinegun
No, but religious fanaticism is a huge problem in the modern world, much more than nationalism. That was the only point I was trying to make.
@Mareo
Gundam Jesus is disappointed in you!
@Calawain
I reckon that I am an apostat, so I go and join Crusader in the Temple of Zeus/Mazinger Z
“impotent” Roy…lol xD I nearly forgot that Riza was my fav. character when I was reading the manga four years ago.
Awesome. Glad they kept the manga references and all.
Envy is sexy, he drags me into the anime every time.
This is one of my favourite episodes on FMA. Nice pictures. This episode reminds me of how people can follow fanatical leaders so easily.
Heck yes, I was just waiting for Envy to show up! :3 He’s my favorite. Of course, there also is Kimbly. I cannot wait for him to make a really big appearance in the show!
Anyway, I am glad that the FMA Brotherhood is (so far) living up to the manga. Except that first episode, but ah well. (at least we saw Kimbly ^_^) I thought that the first series ways very… awkward.
Loved the fight scene between Armstrong and Scar.
