Shin Mazinger Z – 03: Tears of Ashura
Zeus is pissed that Asura Cryin is getting more love.
So it turns out that puny humans worship Zeus because he’s a benevolent God though a God quite capable of kicking ass. Jihad-kun and Ribbons eat your heart out Zeus is not only a full fledged God with people who get all teary eyed when watching him fight, but Zeus is not afraid to spill blood and oil as well brutally tear limbs and heads off. I thought I was great how Baron Ashura was crying tears of joy at the chance to fight a mighty mecha despite having to beat around that useless Aphrodite A. Clearly the poor schmuck was so eager that he/she even ran on water to get to the target. My respect for him/her went up considerably as he took on two mecha by himself/herself. Dr. Hell was a party pooper and combo breakered Baron Ashura’s hurricane kick combo. Ah well the Ashura Corps had their first sortie and at least they have numbers going for them though against ROCKET PUNCH I wonder how long they will last. If they are smart they will sign up for the team that takes out Aphrodite A. I cannot wait to watch Mazinger Z wipe the floor with the Ashura Corps in the next episode. I like how Dr. Hell isn’t making up some BS to cover up his take over of the world he just flat out says it instead of dancing around the issue like a poncy little teenager. I did feel pumped when Zeus was fighting off an army of Gods it made me want to punch something, sadly my fist lacks a rocket motor. I find it hard to come up with something constructive to say though I suppose if I did it wouldn’t be as hot blooded that I want it to be.
I’d cry too if I sas you seeing Mazinger Z like that up close and personal.

i think we’ll definitely be seeing more and more suitable roles for Aphrodai. Deflection, like in this ep, will only be one of them. I’m expecting also decoy: “hey, over here!” and robotic fan service as aphrodai falls with a bang (it happened this ep, but the camera didn’t zoom properly)..

Well, in that case, I guess I can’t complain much, though with all the Greek Mythology nods thrown in it kind of sticks out.
Really, the only thing missing at this point are long spiels by the pilot right before launching an attack. Although we did get something like that in the first ep. (”Behold it’s awesome power, rending the earth, parting the sea, this fist is the beginning of it all! BIG BANG PUNCH!!!!)
The only problem I foresee right now is that the introduction of later villains will pale in comparison to “Master” Ashura’s, I mean, it’s not like everyone can be the “Undefeated of the East.”

In the original show, Ashura was originally 2 lovers who dies and were mummified. When Dr. Hell found their bodies, half of each was destroyed so he fused them together to create Baron Ashura.
And while we’re on that topic, I am now of the belief that Ashura Crying (while giving Mazinger a beating) is a way more awesome concept than Asura Cryin.
