I had this thought long ago once S1 ended, but I just remembered now due to this episode particularly. It’d be pretty GAR if Ali turned out to be the sleeper agent for Aeolia, and that his original body was long just considered a dummy and had his mind uploaded to Veda until he found Ali. Doesn’t make total sense, but you can see it’s not entirely fail either given how Sunrise gave us the GaGa crap. It would be Sunrise’s way of giving Ali a “reason” to his nature, and can explain the garbage he talked about when he shot Setsuna. And then Ribbons would get schooled the same way he schooled Gundam Lord British. Oh how clever use of recycling.

Not going to bother explaining why the idea might be neato, cause anyone with a brain can figure out a dozen reasons why it would be awesome in a cheesy way, and at the same time figure out ten thousand reasons why it’d be stupid and make no sense.

But hey! If body swapping is the game, there’s only one grand prize out there. Other than Sumeragi, but that’s only if you want to play with yourself.

But yeah, main reason I actually thought of this was when I was wondering what kind of excuses can you make to get FujiKei to survive an action series. This was one of them. Cause…ya know…if he keeps on being the grunt, he’s dead. And that eliminates the only hope of a fight with Fon Spark in an OVA or some shit, the only other real pilot now that Bob became…Bob.

Anyway on to the episode. I wonder how many economies were drained so Ribbons could have a suicide army and automatons? Wtf is up with Billy? Is he that heartbroken that he is willing to enslave the human race to get his revenge? Tieria got taken out amazingly quick and most likely will get pwned by Ribbons. Patrick unfortunately had a crappy death scene considering how amazing he was. When even Ali doesn’t recognize Lockon(this season’s) as being a unique individual is when you know that he isn’t really his own character and they just substituted a wussier and gayer version of last season’s Lockon. As for the quality of this episode, around GSD level since I have rarely laughed this hard at a mecha show since then.

You would think by now, they’d have staff that is purely devoted to keeping continuity and tech details and such, but nope. Only one thing matters, that’s the CHARACTERS. The amazing fleshed out oh so academy award winning CHARACTERS.

Clearly, that’s why they brought these awesome heroes into the show, because without it, gundam just wouldn’t shine. Who the hell would watch a show about robots fighting in wars without the EMOTIONAL brilliance of men like Setsuna F Seiei or the Dylandy twins or the empathetical Marina? It just doesn’t get any better than this folks!

Ribbons had 4 months instead of fielding a bunch of incomplete units why not field a couple functional ones too? Sadly it seems that resources were wasted on two sets of clones instead of being diverted to beam sabers.

Of course, this series is beyond saving. Who gives a flip about any of the characters? Outside of Louise and Saji, there’s really no characters that we, as the viewers, have any emotional investment in.

This series runs on the same principal as shows like Kurokami or other Shounen shows – It’s all just an excuse to show giant robots blowing stuff up. It’s no better than pornography or smut films.

Following an age, where 12 year-olds read Julius Caesar, War and Peace and The Tale of Genji, it’s sickening to see media as this hailed as media for children.

Just like the rest of the world, anime is being dumbed-downed to the lowest common denominator.

Multiple Clip shows were a given back in the day. That’s an example of your double standards. You aren’t basing GSD comparatively to other series in it’s era, you are comparing it to 00. No Shit 00 would have raped even Naruto back in the day if it came out at the same time. Doesn’t mean SHIT now does it? Oh wait I guess that’s wrong, because most of us couldn’t run 720p back in the day.

You must look at what GSD/CE market is going for, opposed to just satisfying you. What is the purpose of the show, who did they want to appeal to, what kind of story are they trying to tell, how good was their action comparatively to other animes at the time.

Let’s see, from your complaints, which of these do 00 S2 have?

-Flashbacks
-Shoddy Animation
-Footage that grew worse
-Recap minutes

Everything else that is unique to GSD and doesn’t belong to 00 can also be covered by the shit 00 failed at that GSD doesn’t fail at. You say GSD had two protagonists and it made the series confusing, but I never saw GSD create a Saji Crossroad that took more screen time than Shin’s impulse transformation. You talk about the remake of the final episode, 00 S2 isn’t even at the final episode nor has it existed long enough to consider one.

I mean, let’s poke fun at 00 S2 shit that GSD doesn’t have for kicks:

-Haros that survive lasers and explosions
-Quantum computers that supposedly do amazing shit yet in reality are outclassed by streamline super computers
-Grunts that run on the same ENGINE (BASICALLY) as the main characters but job super fast
-Saji Crossroad
-Confusion on whether coated weapons are stronger than beam weapons
-Super Robots not used to 1/10th their potential
-A stupid setting that doesn’t allow off screen benefit of the doubt to occur
-A time skip AFTER the time skip that begins the 2nd season
-No starwars homage bullshit

You talk about 00 S2 not sparking as much flame wars as GSD? Please. That’s a compliment to GSD. Code Geass is by far the best overall anime of it’s year, R2 included. Anyone who thinks otherwise go look at the TV charts. You can’t talk about figures outside of Japan because one, it’s impossible to calculate, two the show wasn’t even made for foreign viewers as a first priority. With that said, you can bet your ass more people watched GSD in japan than 00 S2. More people, means more bitching. GSD attracted drama morons, shojo girls, all that crap. 00 was more into mecha nerds and people who thought this shit was srsfknbiz but it just so happened it isn’t.

Have you watched this episode? How can you think they can’t fuck it up even more? In fact, how can you think this can go any direction but down? Do you honestly believe they are going to show some miracle fight of Trans-Am Arche and DBR that actually SHOWS the animation quality of their first fight? My ass.

As for making sense of shit and plot holes, give it enough time, and the scale of people that give a damn about 00 that matches the ratio of GSD tards will give you the appropriate feedback of shit that just makes you go WTF.

And even then, I don’t claim that 00 S2 is worse than GSD. But it’s silly to believe that it doesn’t have the possibility to just because they have more hot chicks that aren’t pink, have updated animations, etc etc.

New times, New standards. You use the word objectively, but you aren’t even making a case of it. You have yet to compare GSD to an anime of it’s own time, so it’s completely irrelevant. If you compare it with 00 S2, then all you are saying is that GSD still has some qualities that let it compete with a next generation series with those peeves as the only difference. That’s terrible.

Of course, the biggest flaw is that there’s no hot chix and mostly everyone is either gar or ugly. But HEY.
