Ender once said that the best team blog for him isn't quite a blog (it's the team-up of Stripey and Zyl), and true enough, that shows how collabs/teams ought to be.

As for our 'team blog', well I agree that we don't really work much as a team, and it's especially difficult when not all the members of the blog watch the same shows, and/or at the same time. I can only blame myself for not dragging them enough to participate in meaty discussions in the community.

I pride myself in not recruiting MOAR members in our blog, knowing well that recruiting members for a blog that doesn't really know what direction it wants to take the blog to [yet] would be more or less disastrous. And I think I'd rather recruit a member who's a real life acquaintance or at the very least, someone I'm comfortable with discussing about animes and the blogging community with, and I don't think a mere recruitment drive will make me find those people. So yeah, there are other ways to increase the blog's MANA, and it mostly happens with GATTAIs with other bloggers.

This is why I don't consider my blog a team blog, since we really don't do much as a team. But I don't mind that at all. :P

Can't think of much to add to the discussion, but thanks for the article: Impz and lelangir got me thinking, and that's what matters. That said, though, I should probably get on my own two feet before I bother thinking about team blogging >_>

whoa...deep.
I think there are many flavors of blogging...but I guess each unique combination has its audience?
Yeah, I mean not all teams are the same? Sometimes they have their star players, or are based on passing etc.
Then again, you can make the "not a team" argument.
anyways...Nice points, kept me reading even though I don't know much.

Hmm... there's a lot of interesting points lelangir brings up there. I think there's a difference that has to be made between 'team blogging' and a bunch of people blogging on the same blog. The latter is done as lelangir has said for diversity of discussion and it's easy for lazy people who will blog once a week or less (and yet still keeps the blog alive). But this also ends up having posts that are fairly unrelated to each other unless you go back and find the previous post from that particular author. I feel that most 'team blogs' are like this, but I don't really consider this an actual team blog. The term, to me at least, should be something like this post, in how it's a collaborative effort between more than one blogger. I guess this could be more of a 'collab blog' but that's what I think a team blog should actually be. It can be harder to do, but not impossible. Just a thought :)

That was a long read. The basic premise I took away from Impz's point of view was team blogging is not the easy way to success, which is true because there is no easy way to success. I agree that a heterogeneous mix of personalities is best for a collaborative blog, as Ryan A aptly said above, to assemble an Ocean's 11 team of sorts. The dominant voice trend seems apparent on all the team blogs I frequent. The dominant voice will emerge and overshadow the other writers, but the supporting cast is still needed to keep the blog interesting.

Well, as for Team Blue's first Round Robin, Impz and lelangir have a diversified entry for best post... So far.

@Caitlin: The truth is that the best people appears from the crowd. As you can tell, the people who write with a specific style in this blog tends to be those with a following of their own. However, it is always hard to mix the views of the bloggers in THAT since I consider THAT to be a collection of bloggers rather than a team blog in the purist sense. It just consumes too much time.

@Ryan A: The main issue is that people usually do not think through very carefully why they want a team blog. They assume everything will go fine. Everything generally does not work out well. The world is built that way.

@Baka: Really? I find that it defeats the whole purpose of having a team blog in the first place.

@Dorian: You make an interesting point because it is perhaps true that the bloggers that are active in this blog will usually not mix together. I mean, can you imagine me and Calawain agreeing on anything. Or perhaps Crusader and me? (well, that likelihood is higher since he likes shoujo). That said, we have little reason to collaborate unless there is something that everyone across their genre can contribute. So, I guess that is why that there is little synthesis on the blog because it is primarily an episodic summary blog where bloggers are very different with very different target audiences.

The internal RR sounds fun but we got to make a topic easy for people to get in. Maybe we should have that as a weekly thing but everyone is busy at work as it is already.

@Gordon: Very much so.

@Nazi: I can't deny that lelangir's idea of a team blog is probably one for the purists but one that is highly idealistic and rather impossible for the most of us. I believe a team blog's basic concept is to provide differing views on differing topics, one that is a synthesis of different ideas on a single site (aka an aggregator). I don't expect a lot to agree with me but I think that as long as a team blog manages to create different personalities that is visible to the readers, it will not be that bad after all.

I do not think it's meaningless, but more like an avenue to write something different or perhaps challenge oneself in the form of internal competition in a team. There are some major benefits to team blogging for sure, but the pitfalls are great too.

I have to say I agree with most of what lelangir added in, especially about specifying what a 'team blog' really means. It always seemed kinda silly to recruit multiple writers just to have them basically post their articles on your blog, especially if they have a blog of their own. Sure, it can be a good way to get your articles read and gives you more manpower and posts for the blog, but if you're not working together, it seems a bit meaningless.
Basically, as lelangir says in this article: "In short, where’s the teamwork in team blogs?"

I think it'd be awesome to see some more real team blogs, and I'd love to try it myself, if I could find someone to bounce ideas back and forth between until we get a good discussion on something going. But, of course, that takes a lot more time, effort, and coordination than just letting your mind spill out into a post. So I can see why there aren't many blogs out there like that.
