Skip Beat Ep 13 - It’s time to make a voodoo doll for Erika

null

If I was Moko
I think I would understand
How it feels to hate this Erika
I swear I’ll be a better woman

I will not listen to her
Cause I know she is an ass
When you lose the thing you wanted
Cause she’s taking you for granted
And everything you had got destroyed

Ushio told Erika’s butlers to buzz off because he could not be bribed. Erika was shocked, and told them to convince him further. Moko passed by and asked if her normal powers did not work this time. Kyoko was totally freaked out by the “box of fate”, assuming that she will draw a piece of paper telling her to “go home.” Moko just grabbed the remaining piece for Kyoko, and told her that there was no such thing. Ushio the director appeared and started laughing at the silly costume. Everyone was shocked at the appearance of the “gangster.” He told them that a commercial is a piece of art. He explained that they only have ten seconds to capture the attention of the viewer.

He told the interviewees that there would be two people accepted. He then continued to explain how the audition would work. The people with the same number will pair up, while A and B are their roles. He said that he might not choose the people from the same group to go through. He then told them the scenario. A and B are close friends who fell in love with the same boy. A confessed to the guy when the guy actually likes B, and they had to re-enact a quarrel scene. He reminded them that the two of them were close friends. Erika objected to the pairing of Moko and Kyoko because they were of the same division. Kyoko said that she only managed to get Moko to talk to her yesterday. However, Moko declared boldly that they would not discuss about how to act the scene.

Kyoko was freaking out because she worried that she might sabotage the performance. The director thought that Moko made a bold decision, and noticed how Kyoko was already freaking out. The director said that only people with talent and luck could survive. When it was their turn, Moko calmed Kyoko down and told her to follow her lead. Moko kept silent initially, before slapping Kyoko. When Kyoko wanted to retaliate, Moko started crying and provoked Kyoko to apologize. It was clear Moko displayed how regretful she felt when she slapped her friend, and it was a powerful performance that did not need many words. It was a very different performance from those who simply screamed because they managed to show that the two cared about each other (one of the key conditions).

Moko was surprised how she trusted Kyoko so much. Erika came to taunt her, stating that the next act was one of reconciliation. This must be initiated by B (Kyoko). Kyoko was worried. Erika said that Kyoko probably did not have much creativity or ability at all. Moko told her to stop joking, and said that she could not predict what Kyoko would do. Moko shouted that she was worried if she was able to meet up to Kyoko, since Kyoko is a very strange person. Erika wondered if Moko is insulting or praising Kyoko. Erika was also surprised how Moko actually defended someone, since she never tried to defend herself.

Erika walked over to spy on Kyoko. She realized how weird Kyoko was, and felt that Moko overestimated Kyoko. Kyoko finally thought of a plan after seeing the Kyarara drinks. The jury were impressed with Eriko and Moko, particularly of the pink group performance. Ushio asked why they did not propose the two in the group to go in instead, and wanted to test their ability. Ushio overheard how Kyoko did not want to drink the soft drink, and told her that she would be disqualified if she hated the drink. Kyoko said she would do anything to drink it, since the drink will be part of the props.

At the waiting area, Erika had a plan by using Kyarara. Erika then taunted Moko by telling her that winning is everything, regardless of the method. Kyoko was angry that she let the director know about her props. Moko was wondering why Kyoko was worried, and thought that Kyoko thought of nothing. Moko was getting more and more annoyed because she praised her in front of Erika. Kyoko then smiled brilliantly to assure Moko. However, after seeing her idea being copied by Erika, she suddenly lost her composure.

I hope I am not the only one who felt that Ushio’s voice sounded very gay for someone who should be a gangster director. I am not sure because I felt that it was not masculine, or at least someone rougher that can give a better idea why every single girl in the audition was shocked at the scary vibes given by Ushio. That said, I actually like the little addition where he was found to be trying so hard to control his laughter after seeing Kyoko and Moko in their gaudy pink overalls. Now, that is what I call a good reaction, much more than the slightly minor reaction in the manga.

However, the main piece of the cake belongs to that bitch Erika. She is not only annoying but also deserves a lashing for her venomous tirade against Moko. I do wonder why being in a cloud of riches makes a person such as Erika, and I genuinely hope that she will have some redeeming part of her eventually. She deserves nothing but virile now, and I like to hear from anyone who thinks that this stupid woman should not be sent to the depths of hell to suffer a painful medicine of humility.

On the part of the acting scene, I am definitely impressed by Moko. It is perhaps logical for people to scream like they are hating each other since they are supposed to play a quarrel scene. However, they forgot that one of the key conditions in the scene is that A and B are actually very close friends that loved each other a lot. If they are that close, they would never scream their guts out against each other because they never truly want to hate the other party. That is why everyone in the audition was so impressed.

If anything, I can actually understand why they favor Erika over Kyoko. If anything, Kyoko did very little in the act. She was not doing anything except the sorry. That in itself is provoked by the powerful acting of Moko, which is why that she left little impression to the judges. I would say that Erika, for all her annoying qualities, is a competent actress without that much creativity. She definitely has the raw qualities to be an actress, but she is too consumed by the powers of money to improve herself properly. It’s sad because she is just too scared to play with Moko on an equal footing. Who would, anyway.

At the end, we see Kyoko’s idea being stolen by Erika. Before we get all judgmental over her decision to steal ideas, there is no denying that winning is almost everything in the real world. This is an audition, not a playground for someone to make friends. It’s a war, and there is nothing to hate on Erika on this situation. Do you agree?

The Kyoko and Chair Moko scene was pure win.

Competition is definitely about winning, but I still hate people who don’t win using their own strength, especially when they do it just for the kick of crushing someone.

About rich people, I know some rich person who have MUCH WORSE personality than Erika, and they are clearly spoiled into becoming these kind of people by their richness and their rich parents. At least Erika (kinda) matured up in the end, so at least she has some redemption. However, I can’t find much thing redeeming about these people I happen to know in real life yet. Even worse they are someone I know well. Not all rich people are annoyingly spoiled and some of them are matured nice people. But I do hate these spoiled rich ones from the depth of my heart (since they have direct involvement in making my life more miserable than it should have been) and I do wish for the day when they no longer have their money to support them. This wish is almost my New Year’s resolution…….

Nah! Only the ambitious mysantropical would need to regard it that way. Talent and bright idea’s are a constant need and either you steal all the time but eventually you’ll run into a wall the later the harder. Still no need to waste on hatred though.
anyways, Kyoko was dumb enough to shout it out so there… This only means she’ll have to come up wit smt that tops even het first idea.
If she does it, it’ll put her right in the super talented category.
if not, well rat that rich kid out like hell is after you! ;p

I agree with Westlo-I love that Kyoko-chair scene! it’s so cute and mental at the same time XDDDD

about winning is everything, i am of the ‘the end doesn’t justify the means’ faction but it’s true, sadly that in the real world, ppl would revert to almost everything to win but then if we all cd be civil and a bit nicer to each other, the world would be a better place ^^

I think we’ll see Kyoko’s improvisation skill next eps, and I always think that it is one of the necessary skills an actor must have ^___^

@Westlo: And also shows how queer and fairy-loving Kyoko is. I sometimes find it to connect the cynical evil Kyoko with the “I love all fairy tales” Kyoko. It’s cute to say the very least.

@Kaitune: I don’t know. I am perhaps more ruthless but I think that you use whatever means you can to win, no matter what it might cost. Of course, it might be more honorable to win using your own strength but the most important thing is that you got to win. Losing while being honorable is useless. At least that means for me. That does not mean I don’t find Erika disgusting. I just hate people taunting others and flaunting their abilities. I hate that.

I don’t think all rich people are spoiled. There are people who are nice, generous and know how to earn their own keep. As long as they are normal humans, I am good with it.

@Migui: Really? I think that stealing is hardly right to be honest, but it is not really anything right. True that there is no need to waste on hating these people, because it is up to you to better things. If simply copying your idea is just as it says, you are definitely capable of making something better. Kyoko will prove it next episode!

@Danie: I have to admit that I advocate “the ends justify the means.” Heh, I think that her ability for improvisation is probably very scary.

You know, in theatre, we arn’t allowed to just plain “argue” as an exercise. They would have never accepted such a thing in real life. Its easy to disagree with someone. Just arguing shows no depth or understanding of the characters they were portraying. Erika loooosssseeesssss

  7. Impz December 31st, 2008 9:10 pm

@Hotaru: Of course! However, the whole point of the director’s decision is to differentiate those that understands the true notion of the question (able to adapt and improvise) and those who literally thought that it is a test of vocal ability.

i kno rite! i absolutely love that pure side of kyoko! its so cute! but then i love her malicious evil side too…. -_- i guess i love all of her! XD

But i’d like to say one thing about ren. i’ve read both the manga and saw the anime and i think the ren in a manga is a level cooler than the ren in the anime. he gives off a sorta different feeling in the manga… or maybe its just me? what do you guys think?
