Great post crusader. Thinking now, I laugh at how much I hated Ranka and wished for Alto to go to Sheryl. I knew at the end that Alto wasn't going to pick anyone. Only Hikaru was able to break the love triangle in the Macross Franchise. I think that Luca should have made the failure of 2008. He stole a kiss from a woman in comma!

True Setsuna has been rather underwhelming as a protagonist, at this rate even with O-Raiser he will still be hard up to fight Prince Ali, and then there is his new battle bitch Saji... The Japanese are conservative, their habits and outlook will remain much the same even as the rest of the world moves on. What more can we expect from a people who name their conservatives as the Liberal Democratic Party? ;)

I don't think Bobby got to hime this time...I suspect Seryl had a drinking contest and won...perhaps alcohol removes much more inhibitions in Alto-hime than we thought...

I also see that Sheryl and Alto-hime have split Miyo-sama's clothes. Also it seems Sheryl figured her earring looked better on Alto-hime anyway.

Crusader: I was refuting Lawl's 'point' about Jihad-kun being the most popular mecha pilot in Newtype, and that he'd be easily accepted by society there. Jihad-kun isn't "the most popular" - that title belongs to Kira Yamato, which suggests anime viewers in Japan are much like anime viewers here... aka 'the masses have no taste at all, but like emo'. Setsuna doesn't really do the 'emo' thing well... or, for that matter, he's not all that great in the 'piloting' part either; at least Kira "Jesus" Yamato was a good pilot due to the tinkering with his DNA, whereas Setsuna depends solely on his Gundam for the edge that he uses to survive (as evidenced by how Ali keeps kicking his ass on a regular basis). As for the Japanese, only the younger people tend to accept outsiders... and only to a point; after a while, their parents' habits seem to be ones they themselves grow into, at least from what I saw.

And I have no clue why Alto's dressed like that, or how much booze they had to put into him before Bobby got to him with the makeup kit again.

@skoll
They are usually courteous to tourists and visitors, its only those who stay for extended periods that get the glares. I agree though that with the importation of cheap labor from South Asia during good times meant a lot of racial tension in Japan though like everything else they pretend it does not exist.

@Haesslich
Newtype is not where one ought to go for a gauge on what's worth watching, but yes Koreans seems to suffer the worst in Japan.

I have plenty of RAGE for episode 11, but that will be for later. As for Alto-hime's new get up, well I have something special planned for that...oddly enough the earring says it all along with Sheryl's borrowed kimono. ;)

Crusader... present for you, since Jason's too far gone to be broken further. A few more details on the movie... and I expect you to feature this picture somewhere on the blog in the next few days. Good thing I don't drink at the computer, else I might've done a spit-take.

... and why oh WHY did Sunrise have to do a few things?
Namely, going back to Gundam SEED for the Naked People Vision thing when something dramatic was happening... along with naked Setsuna and Tieria? I mean, sure, make Saji aware that he's about to kill his former fiancee and all... but why did we have to see everyone who wasn't Louise or Ms. Wang naked?
Actually, I thought the top-rated Newtype magazine mecha pilot for the last six years running was Kira Yamato, <em>not</em> Jihad-kun... and Saiji and Princess Poverty's types of characters were far less popular than SEED's super(emo) pilot. The younger fans prefer the more dramatic (and to an extent, sex-driven) events in SEED... which is the same thing that pissed off a lot of older anime fans. People like, y'know, Crusader and half the people who post on this forum.

Mind you, this is the same Japan which tends to isolate people who aren't pure Japanese (STILL); if you grew up overseas, you're treated differently even if you are 100% Japanese as far as ethnic origins go. Chinese people get looks on occasion, and Koreans just get STARES. Hell, the easiest way to start a fight there (STILL) is to call someone a Korean. They don't 'accept' as well as you think they do... or else you're deluding yourself.

@Lawl

Japan is less racist than the west? What? Say it isn't so-- that the racially homogeneous nation that can't publicly admit to war crimes in WWII against other ethnicities is less racist than the west. Ahhh, Western self-denigration. There is no bottom to your inky depths.

And yeah, Japan is definitely weird. After all, they made THIS:

And they expect people to PLAY it too. Christ.

@schneider
Wait a sec they were Zeke commandos, who were supposedly "elite" given their first outing...though in the end they all lost to a girl and lost their manhood. :P

Kampfer was pretty badass though.

@Lawl
What can i say, Japan is weird in more ways than one, they did make GSD a hit after all...

@Square, well, that nameless grunt is matched by the nameless GN-X grunt also known as 82UnknownSoldaten from the previous leaderboard. I mean, the guy killed the bridge bunny AND pacifist terminator. But yes, MF's nameless grunt was more badass than any named pilot. SADLY ENOUGH.

@Crusader, I believe somewhere I've read before that Jihad-kun was ranked #1 on the Newtype pilot list or some crap. Japan's viewers are totally different than the elitist anime peepz of North America and more importantly the western world. People are more like that kid from Chaos Head. Anyone who's visited Japan can automatically tell you their culture would welcome people like Jihad-kun, Saji, and Poverty Princess. Maybe not love, but definitely accept. It's really hard for me to explain, it's more like a gut feeling. If anything, just visit Disneyland in Japan and that should tell you everything.

But, as far as I can see, Jihad-kun is like the new pro wrestling baby faces, who lose like every fight until Gundamania XXV where the title is on the line and he magically whoops the other guy. See, back then, when wrestling was "real" you had guys who'd just RAPE the heel, kinda like how Seed had Kira Yamato go RAWR and people shat their pants.

>Christina Mackenzie actually managed to kill two opposing Zekes despite being a total newb.

Kill #1: Acquired because the Kampfer ran out of suitable weapons to hurt the Alex. Chain mine didn't work? Ooops.
Kill #2: I KILL ZAKU I AM AWESOME. Oh wait where's my head?

Not that those kills were ace pilots too, anyway. They were glorified grunts at best. Chris was just a test pilot who won because her suit was vastly superior to the enemy. Your point still stands, however. :P

@Einherjar
Tomino left and Sunrise was dumb enough to let guys like Fukuda have his way with the Franchise.

@Lawl
You'd be right, but considering how much airtime the losers like Jihad-kun, Princess Poverty, and Saji get it felt like gouging my eyes more often in Gundam 00 than Macross Frontier. So very sad that Bob did not show up last time...

@mai
Indeed, all green haired Lolis should not rely on Moe alone to get our endorsement, or at least don't be an irritating damsel in distress for most of your series.

@Ariel
Looks like some one caught teh gei. :P

@Ryvius
Sheryl proved herself worthy of my Alto-hime's hand where as Ranka kept letting Brera heap abuse upon my Alto-hime, this to me is unforgivable.

@Shin
What ever do you mean I just need a combo breaker...

Yeah I hope in the Movie we will get a more tolerable Ranka, like we did with Minmei. It's just impossible to forgive her for mistreating my Alto-hime like that. I never wanted to hate her but by the end Ranka never showed much love for my Alto-hime by letting Brera beat hime up and then run off with some one else.

@Square
By beating up Jihad-kun in a silly looking Ahead Bob is cool by default.

@Dark messiah
Yeah it seems that Kawamori is keen on letting hime keep Sheryl's earring, not to mention hime is letting Sheryl go through the Saotome wardrobe. Still I like how Sheryl did hime's hair. ;)

@TheBigN
Like Haesslich said I wanted Ranka to do something other than be a damsel in distress, as a part of the triangle she was the weakest because she got waylaid by Brera...sad thing is she treated Brera better than she treated my Alto-hime. Please understand this blog had up until now never felt such disappointment in a green haired loli, we loved her right up until she put herself before everyone else. Suffice to say Ranka gives green haired lolis a bad rep, may the movie change things, but I had very high hopes for Ranka, and I feel very much betrayed.

@Haesslich
Ranka's association with Brera was almost as insipid as the one Minmei had with Kaifun only Ranka never told Brera off, and she even let him beat up Alto-hime on more than one occasion. Her passivity remained almost constant and total through out and when she finally did do something for the better, she got kicked to the curb for Battle Frontier, and got a recycle shot for her dance number. Overall she was a disappointment since even Minmei was more proactive in after the money was gone. By the end even the qualities I liked about her at the start became insipid once she just sat there doing nothing.

Tomino left and Sunrise was dumb enough to let guys like Fukuda have his way with the Franchise.

@Lawl
You’d be right, but considering how much airtime the losers like Jihad-kun, Princess Poverty, and Saji get it felt like gouging my eyes more often in Gundam 00 than Macross Frontier. So very sad that Bob did not show up last time…

@mai
Indeed, all green haired Lolis should not rely on Moe alone to get our endorsement, or at least don’t be an irritating damsel in distress for most of your series.

TheBigN: Be less passive, primarily. It's one thing to see her find her life starting to go out of control, but it's another to just SIT there for ten episodes, waiting for everyone to tell her what to do and not acting on her feelings or desires... and then running away once things don't go as she planned. Only at the VERY end did she start acting on her own initiative (she did want Sheryl to get better, so Sheryl did, etc).

But she was a huge disappointment as far as being the second arm of the love triangle... among other things.

<blockquote>it just sucks when you get high expectations only to see it all blow up in your face.</blockquote>

And that's why you try not to make them they almost never come out the way you want them. :P

But geez, <strike>crush</strike> pile on Ranka much? I can't abide some of the stuff she does either, but I don't think she deserves that much rage. What did you <I>want</I> her to do?
