In this episode, we are treated with a generous amount of Nagi fanservice as well as some more appearances of this “other Nagi”. Daitetsu also becomes enemies with Nagi after a series of unfortunate events.
P.S. I am writing this post even though I’m really exhausted from work and school so excuse me for any errors or anything that just doesn’t make any damn sense. On a side note, I think I’m pretty much resistant or immune to the effects of energy drinks (I know they’re bad for you). I’ve never felt any less tired after drinking one, but I’ve heard that other people had vastly different results. Your thoughts?
Summary

Daitetsu is forced to stay over at Jin’s place during a rainy night since he happened to lock himself out of his house. He observes Jin and Nagi’s interactions with each other and starts to gain suspicions about the two of them. Later on, Daitetsu overhears Jin and Nagi talking and finds out that they’re not really siblings and that Nagi is only living there out of convenience. This causes him to suspect that Nagi might be some sort of evil woman who is taking advantage of poor Jin.

After a lame attempt by Nagi and Jin to make it seem like they’re really siblings, Daitetsu randomly asks Jin about a drawing he found in the closet. The drawing was a design for the statue that Jin created at the beginning of the series. He mentions that the face on the statue looks very much like Nagi’s and asks that if Nagi “was” the statue. Nagi admits to this claim thinking that Daitetsu has realized that Nagi was not a human being. However, Daitetsu was only thinking that Nagi was the model for the statue and that it has not been finished yet.

Jin apologizes to Daitetsu for getting the wood for him and Daitetsu reveals that he did not really ask for the sacred tree. In fact, Daitetsu actually stole the tree for Jin’s sake. This angers Nagi greatly who immediately proceeded to punish Daitetsu for this sinful act. Daitetsu claims that they would have disposed of it anyways, but Nagi says that it would have been an act of purification and proceeds to threaten him with a curse.

Daitetsu runs off to the site of the shrine to apologize for stealing the tree. A bolt of lightning strikes down right before him causing a large pillar to appear with Nagi in front of it. However, this doesn’t seem to be the Nagi we’re familiar with but someone of a “higher being”. She forgives Daitetsu before fainting and returning to her normal self the next morning.

Jin questions Nagi about what happened, saying that Daitetsu carried her home that night. Nagi claims that she does not remember anything nor does she know anything about what’s happening with her. Nagi even gets mad like she did before when Jin tries to question her further about it. The recent events cause Jin and Daitetsu to try and make sense of everything that happened, but Nagi only remains bitter towards both of them.
Impressions

This was a very Daitetsu-centric episode. That being said, I’m not sure how I feel about this episode even though it is straight from the manga. There wasn’t much for me to talk about aside from a few moments here and there. It was mainly a bunch of laughs and arousing moments that’s a bit difficult to discuss in detail. Other than that, it was an enjoyable episode for the most part.

I have to admit it. I didn’t think Daitetsu had it in him. I mean for Daitetsu to have an imagination that would rival Takako’s and possibly Akiba’s is pretty impressive, especially for him. Of course now that he’s made enemies with Nagi, I can’t see his future being too bright. Not even his huge physique will save him from the wrath of Nagi.

I think this is the second time we see Nagi’s eyes losing their “shine” for a brief second or two. The other time was after she woke up from absorbing the kittens. I’m really curious to what significance it has and it’s pretty obvious that it has to do with Nagi’s other self. Speaking of her “other self”, it seems that Nagi really does have a split personality that she may or may not be aware of. Either that or I’m guessing that this “Nagi” isn’t the true incarnation of the deity she claims to be. I hope this gets explained sufficiently since we’re almost winding down to the last few episodes.

A bit random, but if you didn’t know who got this very brief cameo, it’s Puniata from the bonus chapter from chapter twelve in the Kannagi manga. What she was doing in the boy’s bathroom or why there was so many people in there to begin with remains a mystery.

Is this a reference to Lucky Star or am I just going crazy? The art style of the little character just yells out “Lucky Star” to me.
Nagi Fanservice Gallery (because you know you want it)

Are those pillows or marshmallows in the background? Maybe marshmallow pillows?

OMG nekkid Nagi.

Wtf? Nekkid Nagi #2? I almost died of blood loss here.

Jin does seem like the masochistic type.

Baka inu!

I knew Daitetsu was into cats, but…

With a bit of editing, could this pass as a ceiling cat?

Too lazy to look up who the guest artist is for this one. Would anyone like to contribute?

I definitely don’t mind having a ceiling cat looking like that.
I’m…. not fond of Nagi’s character design. It’s done well, just doesn’t really… appeal to me. Meh.
Love Nagi herself though. I laughed hard at the sheer length of Daitetsu’s incestuous fantasies.
Ah, one more thing, there seems to be a patter of not-so-subtle homoeroticism…..
If Nagi was bad, I’d love to see Daitetsu’s reaction when Zange “plays” with Jin.
About energy drinks, I drink them for the taste and thirst quenching. I never had the impression they gave me energy either.
May we have more Daitetsu fantasies…
Evil Nagi is evil!
All in all it was a clever way to inject fanservice while dispensing with the lame justifications by making them all fantasies. I guess Hosaka did have kids after all…
Shokkeru: The closing image was done by the artist of the ToraDora! manga.

I had exactly the same thought when I saw the Weather Report on the Television.
It was a bit surprising to see Diatetsu having such a wild imagination, but more of them please! Evil Nagi is as good as moè Nagi …
How many episodes is Kannagi going to have anyway ? 12 ?
On the thoughts of Energy drinks … I never noticed any effect either, besides getting a slight shaking in my hands after drinking about 5-6 in a row (same goes for coffee unfortunately).
@Kaitune: Neither would I actually.
@skoll: Yes the homoeroticism thing was kind of started a while ago with Takako. She, and Shino to some extent, even hinted at it near the end of the episode.
@kanzaki: Daitetsu would probably faint if he doesn’t die at least.
I was never into the taste of energy drinks to be honest. Most of them either have too much sugar or are too bitter for my liking.
@Crusader: At least Hosaka’s were generally tame compared to Daitetsu’s fantasies. I think Daitetsu has been hanging around Akiba or Takako a bit too much recently.
@Myssa Rei: Ah, thanks. I thought the art style looked familiar.
@Versus: Glad to see I’m not the only one on the Lucky Star thing.
Kannagi is getting 13 episodes if I’m not mistaken.
If that’s all you get after about 5-6 of them, then I’m probably going to lay off of them. It’s probably thanks to all the caffeine I had as a kid.
Nagi’s delicious flat chest is getting more and more pleasant to look at. >_>
and her faces continue to amuse me. XD
with that said, Daitetsu is pretty hilarious, but alas, he’s the one who pretty much started everything in the series by givng Jin that tree. and for that, he needs props. He wanted to hit it with her when she was her other self, all kind to him, i know it… >_>
This ep seriously had me rolling with laughter…just love how each of the side characters bring their own flavor of comedy to the show.
Also, my first thought was also a Lucky Star reference on the weather report…actually scrolled back while watching and paused to be absolutely certain, the reporter looks a little like Konota but with a different hairstyle…I think (close, but could be a stretch) close to Kagami’s. Of course, it’s hard to tell either way, but that was definitely the impression left on me.
As for energy drinks…tried Red Bull last year and couldn’t stand the taste, so I’ve avoided them since. Can’t say if they’re effective or not, though I do usually get a bottle of soda if I need a little energy boost.
your not the only one thinking that its a lucky star reference.
you know i was gonna get my younger cousin to watch this show… now i’m not so sure (with this episode)
as to energy drinks… i do believe i become more tired after drinking one… that or it wasn’t an energy drink
Didn’t notice the energy drinks thing…
Anyway, you can develop both an addiction and a resistance to them. I have a pseudo resistance to them in the sense than they help me focus, but I don’t ‘feel’ it. I just perform better with energy drinks in me.
Case in point, the first time I took the SATs I got myself a 2100. :’(
Second time around, I had half an AMP before and half an AMP in the middle, got myself a 2380.
I DO however feel the crash, in the form of me being incredibly numb and sleepy. Which is ironic, because I can’t sleep.
Daitetsu is very perverted after all. I suppose that a normal personal wouldn’t buy into that brother & sister story, however, even when he knew the thruth his imagination shouldn’t go that far. It looks like he’s picturing Louise instead of Nagi in this episode.

This Week’s Eyecatch is drawn by “Zekkyo“. If, like me, you thought this artwork looked similar to Toradora!, you were right! Beautifully done, I think.
