The MPRE is over! Yay! Anyways, in the anime world there was more delicious Ami story this week that really starts to flesh out her character. They did rush some of however, when compared to the novels. It’s good, but it lacks some of the impact that the scenes had in the novels. Oh well, she still looks smokin’.

As I mentioned last week, Ami does get some of her comeuppance, albeit a shortened version. Not to beat a dead horse, but they made this shorter and less serious than the source material. But they also made sure to keep the tie-ins with the other parts of the episode. Ami is gaining weight because of the stress of the stalker and the poor food she’s been forced to eat as a result of her circumstances.

One of the many great faces of Ami this episode

And of course, he has to put the trash can back. Too funny.

Note to self, NEVER become Taiga’s enemy

This scene was pretty well done, I liked how they showed the rapidfire shifts in her personality throughout. Once again I’d like to compliment Ami’s seiyuu, Eri Kitamura, on the job she has done voicing her. And while the fake Ami is pretty cute/moe, I rather enjoy the real Ami because the conflicts she has with Taiga drive a lot of the humor.

And another!

Frankly, he was a pretty pathetic stalker, and I don’t think they spent enough time with the stalker material. It seemed rather sudden and had less of an impact on your impression of Ami’s character. I suppose that in an anime they end up having to shorten some of the characters’ development, I just wish they didn’t short Ami’s -_-

Scary

Love me! Aahhhhhhh moeeeeeee! Ahem. In the end, I don’t know whether Ami will actually fall for Ryuuji. She’s pulling his leg in this scene, but you never know later on with these shows. In harem shows at least, all females automatically and unconditionally love the main guy, but this show isn’t really a harem show. Will be interesting to see either way, but since this is an adaptation of an ongoing source material, don’t count on on anything being resolved in the end. We’ll just have to hope the guys translating the novels go quickly =)

Swimsuit shopping, pools, and fake breasts, oh my. Interestingly enough, the novel material for next episode just got translated and it should be a fun ride. Mmmm, Ami in a swimsuit…

It should be noted that they left out the ‘just kidding’ part from the novel… and IIRC, Kitamura was part of this too, but they left HIM out (along with Taiga tripping into a ditch).
Is the best way to appreciate Toradora! is to read the novels? I’m enjoying the anime so far, but reading some of the references here it would seem that I’m missing a fair bit.
I would violently stomp on her camera.
@Haesslich
Yeah I noticed that too, I think because they didn’t want to spend the time on it. Adding the other characters and circumstances would require more time on Ami then I guess they are willing to put in at this point in time. It’s quite disappointing really =/
@Ghostlightning
Mmmmm, the best way to appreciate it is both to be honest. The novel source material may be better overall, but watching the anime will give the characters voice and life that aren’t available when one merely reads text. I’ve appreciated the novels more now that I have an image and sound in my mind for all of the characters. Plus, I’m a big fan of varying facial expressions and emotions, something you can’t really do in novel format.
@Omisyth
I’d her anyday of the week. And you can pretty much insert anything in that blank slot.
I really enjoyed this episode, particularly every time Minorin appeared. Her cheeriness is just tooo much, but it works, at least for me. I actually didn’t find the stalker thing to be weak as plot devices are concerned, as others have pointed out (referring to other blogs) but I agree with you that it felt kinda rushed. And it didn’t have the impact I was expecting it to have.

Me too ^^ I even don’t know if that’s the real Ami or just the fake one.

In ryuuji’s defense, he’s really too nice ^^
i believe that this show is more of an “anti-harem” and that ami’s thing should be a lot longer. it may seem like a harem show, but in reality taiga treats him like a tool, ami uses him as a tool to get on taiga’s nerves, and minorin is just dumb.
wished it showed ami’s story a lot earlier i had to wait 6 fucking months and it go shortened into only 2 episodes ;(
Well thought it was a good episode. Would have liked the stalker thing to be taken on a bit further. Guy didn’t invoke that much terror. But guess its all about your point of view. Anyways glad the guy got owned in the end. A combo of being attacked by Taiga and then having the camera annihilated by Ami. Hopefully that jerk learns not to not scare people instead of just getting a career in tabloid journalism.
The part at the end was nice to see even if she was kidding there. For some reason like her and Ryuugi so a few moments here and there would be fine by me. Since the material isn’t done yet moments and maybe some RyuugixTaiga thing at the end is the most we can expect.
I was wondering what makes the stalker very pathetic? He seems pathetic but not to the point as how some of the people who had read the novel so I am curious as to what else did he do. Did he stalk her like everyday and time or something?
Also, in the novel Kitamura was involved too? Wow, it seems like the novels have some more interesting stuff too. Of course though, the anime has the voices and facial expressions which makes it awesome.
Ami-chan is awesome, strange to see how such a loser stalker could incite so much terror. Still Ami-chan is wondrously terrifying in all her glory.
Stalkers these days, I remember a time when to be a stalker was really something almost like having to be a spy and sniper at the same time. You would not just stalk some idol, but rather one’ enemies and drive them made with fear, fear is the beginning of wisdom…
Last episode, I found Ami really annoying, mostly because her fake-cute voice kind of grated on my nerves. But this episode was amazing on so may levels that Ami definitely redeemed herself for me. And how can one not love someone who beats up a stalker and smashes his camera? That scene was pure awesome, even if he was shit at being a stalker.
Though I have to say this: Ami, you’d better not get anywhere near Ryuuji. He is Taiga’s, y’hear? Try anything funny and you’ll get a pudding bucket of Te Nori tiger whoop ass.
“It seemed rather sudden and had less of an impact on your impression of Ami’s character. ”
That’s the problem for me. I can’t really feel anything for Ami right now, since I’m not connecting with her character right now. Maybe if they did explain the situation more.
