The robot’s name (for now) is *Me*. *Me*’s identity will be revealed later in the series.

The baseball route was also in the VisNov, so don’t call it TOO much of a filler. Just that in the baseball route, the situations were different. In the VisNov, the baseball game would’ve been a final memory for him and his friends before they graduate and never speak to each other again (all friends route, no girlfriend). The only difference being that Kotomi replaces Fuuko.

Those changes were necessary to fit the storyline and incorporate all routes.
Next seems to the the Sunohara Mei route, and I’m hoping Hiraga Kappei shows up soon ^^

Oh, goody, another blogger that hasn’t played the game or watched the movie. If I said anything anyone has already said in the comments, it’s because I totally ignore them in fear of spoilers. (grrr @ people who mentioned Kotomi/Fuuko swap). I’m glad someone is noticing the other small details, like the baseball bat/cheers clink, I only noticed that my second time through the episode. Re showdown between Tomoya’s father and Akio, At this point I think that’s highly unlikely given his father’s complete indifference, though the current situation could change completely later on. Regardless, I think we will learn a lot about Tomoya’s history, and maybe how that, the memory of Fuuko, Tomoyo’s past and the Ichinose’s research are all linked together.

Oh, and like the first series, “Hi-def” will be aired two weeks after standard-def.

@ asoch_3: I know we can’t ever be fully free of Fuuko, but I meant I was glad when she wasn’t one of the main named chars in the OP. A little Fuuko goes a long way, and I admit that I lol’d when she showed up in the first season and got the starfish from the crane game

Ohhh! Fuko was there in the OP… not like a main character but I’m sure she will appear latter on. She was huging some kid in the OP. I do not remember the details though.

@ leefan: I feel better knowing that this episode isn’t straight filler, but I still get the feeling this was fluff. I’m glad they chose not to put Fuuko in this episode. I actually breathed a sigh of relief when she wasn’t in the OP.

@ Vin-nii: I disagree about Fuuko – moe is not synonymous with retard, social reject, or toddler in any language I’m familiar with ;P I did the /audiblegroan at the Kotomi science-can-be-applied-to-sports scene, but I guess it’s ok since she didn’t actually hit it. I would have had problems if it had been a home run.

@ Baka-Raptor: I’ve heard a few things about the robot world, but I think they stray into the realm of spoilers so I’ll keep mum and wait to see. After playing some of the VN, watching the movie, and reading the mangas (I hated the Tomoyo After manga), I wonder if even a “good” ending will be without strife

@ Watashi mo: They’ll probably release the HD eps a few weeks after the original airs, just long enough so that I won’t be able to wait. I’ll dl them for the archive, for sure. If you can stand to not know what happens every week, waiting till the end is probably a more stress-free viewing method.

@ Myssa Rei: I’ve heard a few things about the Illusionary World, but the prospect of definitive answers is one of those things that I’m really excited about this season.

@ FlameStrike: After this ep, I’m glad we’ll be seeing more of Yoshino; if you had told me he was going to play a big part before I saw this one, I would have been meh about it. I agree about Tomoya’s development – he’s starting to “grow up,” so to speak.

@ jitensha: where Tomoya lives is indicative of his situation, but not neccesarily an indicator of personal development. In this case, I believe that Tomoya has changed quite a bit – like FlameStrike says, go listen to the opening soliloquy of last season and look how much Tomoya’s attitude has changed.

@ Cokematic: Many have tried the smart person at sports schtick, and all but one have failed – the field goal scene in Kid n Play’s 1992 masterpiece Class Act. As the saying goes, it makes House Party look like House Party 2!

@ Helling: I lol’d, for sure. I loved it wen he called a time out next time he tries it so he won’t get out again :p

I’m guessing after story will be like season 1, SD first, and widescreen 2 weeks later…
I facepalmed at the whole Kotomi calculating the trajectory thing… but other than that, no complaints..

I don’t really think there was a change in Tomoya’s character development because he is still living in Nagisa’s home. I could say that he still escaping from his father.

I also I agree that Clannad depicts the situation of transition to adulthood. My mind showed me again the OVA with Tomoyo and Tomoya as a couple and I can hardly accept that Tomoya ended up having a job on a recycling shop. I hope he could strive harder this time so he won’t end up there.

You shouldn’t worry about Yoshino getting “too much” screen time this ep, he pretty much has a whole mini route in the AS so he’ll be pretty important later.

I don’t think this ep was pointless though, it wasn’t just a bit of fan service to game vets that loved the base ball route (Although they cut out the laser tag ><), but it showed Tomoya’s character development too. The monolouge he had in the first ep of Clannad season 1 is nol onger reflective of his thoughts/beliefs. It also sets the scene nicely.

The robot plays a big part, but only after the TRUTH of the Illusionary World is revealed, as well as the identity of the Sad Girl.

And I’m glad that they DID replace Fuuko in the baseball game, since it makes her return later in the story all the more poignant and, what’s more, important to the resolution of AS.

Seems promising, the only thing I didn’t like was the standard definition… But that may change midway.
Im thinkin in downloading the full series and watching it at my pace after it ends.

Everyone’s favorite robot is back too. In the movie, the robot story (technically it was a puppet in the movie) culminated with the play. The TV series didn’t quite feel that way, so now I’m wondering if the robot will serve any greater role in the After Story. If so, perhaps there will be a different ending than the movie. I haven’t played the VN either, but now that I know there’s a “good” route, I’m pulling for it.

Good episode, but I tend to see some bits a tad over the top
(I’ll probably ignore the flaws if they didn’t have Kotomi calculating the swing, should have stuck with Fuuko)
