Well it seems if have found a nice boy for Mina…I have high hopes for you Maruyama Kakizaki…oh and the answer is we’re not sure though they are living together.
True beginning indeed with the last stretch of Macross Frontier before us I expect a most epic ending with Alto-hime performing Sakura-hime Azumu Bunsho to end the war while hime fold bombs Ranka via a kabuki-hime fan. Basara-sama will come and cure Sheryl through some good old Fire Bomber as they sing a duet that will drive Leon to an hero himself and Grace to go BASARA-SAMA in a fangirl squeal. Admiral Jenius and Supreme President of NUNS, Millia will de-fold to conclude the conquest of the Vajra homeworld. It will be an epic end to a great series, and we all will LISTEN TO THEIR SONG! Yes this will not be some mundane end where Ranka sings her song to save the fleet, oh no my Kawamori sense is tingling that it will be the prettiest hime on Frontier who is fated to save the fleet after Sheryl passes out after giving her all to protect volk and fatherland. After all Bilrer expects great things from Alto-hime…
Oh ho…so it seems Grace has been paying special attention to Ranshe’s body. I like where this is going.
Ranka begins to remember a bit of her past as she recalls her mother Ranshe being bullied by Grace, the little runt Brera starts criticizing Ranshe and Grace for fighting but the little brat knows nothing. Grace wanted to better the galaxy by uniting the Vajra with her cyborg network while Ranshe is still sick from dancing with the bugs. Frontier is losing islands at an alarming rate oxygen is being rationed and they have crossed the point where they can no longer sustain themselves. The Frontier congress is furious with Ozma’s antics as already the SMS defection has spread rumors that the pirates were leaving a sinking ship. Fortunately while Ozma is a stupid mercenary who really can’t to much more than protect his Cathy (note not Ranka), Richard Bilrer is a far more composed and intelligent Zentradi billionaire who has kept the remnants of SMS in fighting condition and monitoring the progress of both Leon and Grace. Alto-hime has been given his own vic complete with Maruyama Kakizaki and Johnny “Dead Meat” Jones. The NUNS guys seem like good blokes who are proud of having a squadron leader like Alto-hime. Kakizaki is absolutely delighted and can barely keep his joy in check, as rumor of Alto-hime and Sheryl dating is all over the place. Clearly Kakizaki has is yuri-goggles set to over 9000. Suffice to say I enjoyed every moment of the Alto-hime vic banter.
Oh Ranshe time you’re daily nibble from Grace, oh don’t mind the kids it’s better if they watch.
Sheryl and Alto-hime are living together after hime was left homeless after Quarter left and Sheryl followed Alto-hime in leaving the Saotome home. In an all too brief bit of marital bliss they have dinner together with their pooled rations as Sheryl takes a fondness to the drink. Sheryl gets drunk quickly and asks Alto-hime to carry her as she asks hime to never leave her until her duty is done. Alto-hime has noticed that Sheryl is acting differently but accepts it without question. Hime suspects that Sheryl might not be taking her medicine at this point and while hime might not like it Alto-hime will respect Sheryl’s decision to sing to her dying breath. I think that the speed subbers are right since Alto-hime doesn’t wnat to go back to the Saotome mansion, and hime did lose his home when Quarter left as he was staying on the ship. Sheryl has been homeless ever since she was tossed aside by Grace, so Sheryl didn’t have a home. Also as delicious as it might be they are not taking over Ozma’s house since Ozma lived on a hill and didn’t have a store underneath him. So with intact housing being at a premium I think it is very likely that they are living together since Alto-hime is an adult hime will honor his oath and never leave Sheryl until she can sing no more. Besides there too many pictures of the sky to say that it isn’t hime’s place and those curtains in Sheryl’s room were certainly for a female as not even Alto-hime has shown an affinity for frilly things.
Yeah I bet if word got out Alto-hime and Sheryl were staying in the same house Kakizaki and “Dead Meat” Jones would be visiting every day…and with a few new “friends.”
While Frontier is falling apart Ranka is on her little journey with Brera as Ranka starts asking questions about Brera. Such a pity that Ranka has asked more about Brera than she has Alto-hime but I guess that is about the extent of her love at this point. The Vajra break out a welcoming party as Ranka is shocked that whenever she stops singing that the Vajra go hostile. Like Kabitzin was saying, clearly the Vajra are none too happy that Ranka sold out and betrayed the spirit of Aimo. I have not forgotten the travesty that was the Grace re-mix, and neither have they. Brera tries his best to protect Ranka as she laments how things are not going to plan. Ranka thinks that the Vajra will still listen to her song and gets out of the VF-27 to beg Ai-kun to help Ranka talk to the Vajra. Sadly for Ranka Ai-kun has had enough of Brera and snatches Ranka away from Brera. Grace intervenes and saves that idiot Brera telling the “major” that his Oberst Grace cannot be so easily thwarted by merely deactivating the tracer, Grace knows everything about Brera’s elopement with Ranka and reveals to his horror that Ranka is his sister before Grace activates Brera’s slave mode.
Ai-kun just took your Ranka and trolled you good Brera. There there Ranka I am sure Ai-kun will love you more than anyone else…Sweet ride by the way Ai-kun. Oh where o where is Alto? O where o where o where…
Leon is forced to invite Alto-hime to meeting at the insistence of Bilrer. They have divined the location of Ranka and the Vajra homeworld by tracing her song that is all but useless against the Vajra. They inform Alto-hime that the bugs are all part of a gestalt consciousness and that communicating with one is all but impossible as each Vajra is only a single synapse in a vast network that makes up the Vajra. Leon thinks that Ranka was always intended as a spy, but Bilrer knows better. Grace has Ranka in her possession and as such will use Ranka to further her ends Bilrer informs Alto-hime the hard truth that Ranka will be his enemy. Despite Ranka’s resistance she will be powerless before Grace and will be dancing to the cylon’s tune. Alto-hime takes Sheryl to the hospital where she declares that she knows that she is a tool and will not take her medication because it would compromise her ability to sing against the Vajra. Luca in his new NUNS uniform can do nothing. Alto-hime runs into his dad and Yasaburo. Yasaburo asks Alto-hime to go back to acting and asks hime if he would still be a pilot if there was no enemy to fight. Klan onee-chan informs Alto-hime that she too received the memo about Ranka.
Ah the infamous “Barry Goldwater Ranka Lee will kill us all…” ad, and that was how Leon won a landslide election after Howard Glass died, with a single smear campaign. It also helped that Leon was the only name on the ballot.
Alto-hime declares that he joined SMS to protect Ranka, an activity at which hime has consistently failed at due to Brera. Alto-hime says that he deliberately ignored some things but no longer. Alto-hime will defned the fatherland until death, the people of Frontier have a right to live and now the Fleet is too far gone to continue on their journey. Alto-hime says that if Ranka is an enemy that hime will kill her. Klan asks if that is Alto-hime’s love for Ranka, the answer is of course yes. The confession at Griffith Park when Ranka left has finally been answered hime loves Ranka enough to blow her to hell for the volk and fatherland. Klan onee-chan thinks that this is sad; Sheryl after only hearing half the conversation sheds a tear over how hime will not love her. No sooner is the final verdict given that the announcement is made that Frontier will be headed for one final sortie to wipe of the Vajra and claim a world which is so rightful theirs due to the Vajra wrecking their fleet. Sheryl being the fantastic and mature woman that she is wipes away her tears and braces herself for her last concert to save Frontier.
I smell a rooftop confession.
Well it’s about time my Alto-hime has decided to answer Ranka’ confessions, imagine my delight when my pilot-hime decided to answer Ranka’s love with the promise of a fold bomb. Maybe then it will add some much needed spark and hawtness to their decrepit relationship based on rescuing Ranka. Oh sure the Ranka fans will cry hime has chosen Ranka while ignoring the threat of fold bombing her into oblivion, but such talk is silly for if bombs were a measure of love then by such flawed and uncouth logic the Palestinians love the Israelis (and vice versa) and the US really loved Japan to atomic levels. Clearly these people have it wrong…My Alto-hime is better than that my plucky hime has leveled up to Soldaten-hime which is in every way superior to a mercenary. Soldaten-hime has chose volk and fatherland over Ranka, duty is hime’s reason for flying not Ranka. Duty is the most important word in the English language, without duty men are but worthless cowards and women nothing more perpetual victims of their own stupidity. Duty makes men and women strong it gives them unshakable will to see things through to the end, it allows for men and women to be great. If Ranka is an enemy, if she dares in her insolence to use her pet bugs to harm Frontier then Soldaten-hime will offer Ranka a token of his explosive and deadly love for her. Desire does not enter into it, the line has been drawn. If Ranka, for whatever reason, crosses it she will be bombed mercilessly along with her new friends.
So say we all!
No doubt lesser children will cry foul at such thinking or adherence to duty. Ignore their honeyed lies and sorry excuse for logic. They will cry that the millions on Frontier have no right to ask that Ranka die, but such fools fail to ask the proper and correct question: by what right does Ranka have to demand that millions on Frontier die for her sake? I say she has none. If Ranka wishes to be spared from the coming fire then she better well get the hell out of Alto-hime’s way. Right now all Alto-hime is declaring to Ranka to lead hime (i.e. Bilrer and Klan), follow hime (Sheryl, Maruyama Kakizaki, and Johnny “Dead Meat” Jones), or get the fuck out of hime’s way (i.e. Ranka and Ozma). Alto-hime understands that it is not a matter of by what right hime has to kill Ranka, but rather by what right does Alto-hime have to let Ranka live? Alto-hime is an adult now so hime now has responsibilities to Frontier, and to the men under hime’s command. Sorry Ranka but as much as Alto-hime loves you with a fiery passion, hime has obligations and responsibilities now that come before rescuing Ranka or wasting his breath trying to get you to walk out on your beloved bugs as Ranka has chosen to help Ai-kun. Ranka has chosen to be with the bugs, Alto-hime has chosen volk and fatherland. Don’t make hime destroy you Ranka…Ranshe knew this to be true. Join Alto-hime and together you can destroy Leon and bring an end to this destructive conflict. Together you can rule the galaxy as hime and loli.
Alto-hime has a grateful fatherland and a glorious struggle. Honor and blood for the Northern Cross.
I am over all delighted with my Alto-hime for doing the right thing and choosing the hardest and most demanding path of all in life. Alto-hime had no hand in starting this war but by Deculture Alto-hime will finish it even if it means obliterating the Vajra menace along with Ranka. Alto-hime will not just shoot the damn bugs, hime is going to rip out their Goddamn guts and use them to make more warheads. Alto-hime is going to murder those lousy Vajra cocksuckers by the bushel-fucking-basket. War is a bloody, killing business. Hime has got to spill their blood, or they will spill his. Rip them up the belly. Shoot them in the guts. When beams are hitting all around Alto-hime and hime wipes the dust off hime’s Valkyrie and realize that instead of space debris it’s the blood and guts of what once was hime’s wingmate, Alto-hime will know what to do! Where once Alto-hime held Ranka’s life as a something value, hime has now found Ranka’s life to be but a paltry price to pay for the safety of volk and fatherland. Things have changed, Alto-hime has changed and for the better. With Klein, Sheryl, Maruyama Kakizaki, Johnny “Dead Meat” Jones, and Bilrer supporting hime, my Alto-hime will defend the fatherland until death. Honor and blood for the Northern Cross!
I guess my Alto-hime wasn’t just being thick about Ranka, in fact hime was actively ignoring her growing feelings for hime. If it is true that Alto-hime was deliberately ignoring things then hime’s love for Ranka is most cold and distant. I am glad hime has given some insight about what goes one in that pretty little head of hime’s. Ai Ai Alto-hime will support our kabuki-hime no matter what! We are proud to have a new Soldaten-hime who is ready to give his all for the safety of Frontier and all her citizens.
Dang it Ranka why couldn’t you just stay that way for the rest of your life, like Klein onee-chan.
So yes Ranka is in dire need of rescue once again because she grossly overestimated her power and severely underestimated what Ai-kun was capable of. Ranka really has only herself to blame for this, such poor choice of allies and companions… I have been saying all along that Ai-kun and Brera were not to be trusted, but no… Ranka didn’t listen as I shouted at the screen when she took in Ai-kun and got chummy with Brera. Well Ranka better hope that Brera or Ozma will rescue her first otherwise the results could be quite, shall we say spectacular and final. I hope that Ranka will muster the courage to rescue herself because I grow tired of her always being that damsel in distress, the kind of typical clueless bint who always finds herself in trouble because of her own indiscretion and ignorance. I hope Ranka is better than that, for a woman who has nothing which she is willing to fight for, nothing which she cares more about than she does about her personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better women and hime than herself. Now, that Grace has Ranka in her clutches Ranka better hope that she inherited some of her father’s courage because it seems that Ranshe was always being bullied by Grace, as they say like mother like daughter. Speaking of my favorite evil Cylon, I am hoping Kawamori will give us a Grace and Ranshe OVA so that I can see more of Grace bullying Ranshe. I imagine it to be very much like how Haruhi-sama bullied Mikuru, and it would make science much more fun, yes…
Wow amazing what you find by just randomly mashing the f5 key when taking screen caps…
It’s fine if she decided to try and end the war after she left declaring the return of Ai-kun as her only intention. Sadly Ranka did not do her homework and had a piss poor plan to go with her good intentions. Good intentions are fine, they pave the road to hell, but I want results not a statement of intent after she left. No Ranka better make good on her wish to stop the conflict, it would be sad if some one else had to do it for her. It’s not okay for her to sit idly by while Frontier is locked in a battle to the death. Frontier has no choice left but to attempt the conquest of the Vajra homeworld, after Ranka’s new friends ran amok, such a pity it had to come to this.
Valiant Sheryl knew what it meant to fill in for Ranka, like a real woman she saw through the lies and pretense.
Sheryl is a tough woman the kind of woman I would gladly betroth my Alto-hime to. Sheryl is formidable, has self esteem, and above all has a sense of duty. Like Soldaten-hime Sheryl has chosen to defend the fatherland until death. Sheryl has decided to share Alto-hime’s fate of honor and blood for the Northern Cross like a real woman. These may be her last days but Sheryl will not suffer to see them wasted in a bout of self pity, while the lives of millions are at stake. Even if she feels that Alto-hime will never love her Sheryl is glad to have known hime and will do her part to protect hime and all that hime fights for. I applaud her selfless courage, indomitable will to die standing, and her faithful love for Alto-hime. I can see why Sheryl fell for alto-hime, not only for hime’s good looks, but because he has a sweet side and despite the hime aloofness does care about those around him. Sheryl knows that since hime is not above cooking and housework that Alto-hime is more than just a Princess who comes to the rescue, not hime is that and much more. Sheryl knows that hime is a fine catch and good husband material, not a mere rescuer of damsels in perpetual distress.
Yeah don’t think Sheryl could manage living on her own, that is why she lives with Alto-hime.
I still think that Sheryl might find the love that she truly deserves from my Alto-hime. The spirit of Misa and Sara are with her and I was elated when Sheryl and Alto-hime were playing house. Alto-hime will be with Sheryl until the end that much is certain. Their happy time together will shine forever because of how their last game of house was undercut by the impending doom of Sheryl. Sheryl can take comfort in knowing that hime cares for her to a great degree, enough to carry her, and cook for her. At least she got to drink with Alto-hime since Ranka won’t be able to experience that for a few years until she grows up. I still think Alto-hime cares more about Sheryl than hime does Ranka at least hime is not threatening to bomb Sheryl for getting in the way. No instead Alto-hime being a real hime will carry Sheryl off to her bed, a far happier fate than being fold bombed. Just as Sheryl will protect Alto-hime and all of Frontier so too will Alto-hime protect Sheryl and all of Frontier. Ai Ai Alto-hime applauds her valor and faithful service to volk, fatherland, and hime. Long shall we remember the efforts of Valiant Sheryl and her unwavering and 100% faithful love for Alto-hime.
We’re the pirates who don’t do anything! We just stay home and lie around! And if you ask us to do anything…
The Pirates of Quarter haven’t done much though it seems that Bilrer is playing Leon for a sucker. Surely as the respected owner of SMS Bilrer is aware and wary of Grace and Leon, Ozma found out too late, but Bilrer has been planning for a show down with Oberst Grace and her Galaxy conspirators. I am sure that Bilrer is right that Alto-hime will do great things in defense of volk and fatherland. I hope Maruyama Kakizaki and Johnny “Dead Meat” Jones makes it out alive; I know two of Bobby’s daughters that deserve to have some nice boys of their own. Hopefully there will be some pairing of the spares come the ED credits of episode 25.
Ladies and gentlemen I give you the true savior of the fleet. Alto-hime is still the prettiest of them all on Frontier, sorry Vajra but your attempts to poison hime for Brera have failed… Ranka stand aside, Sheryl go get some rest, Bobby make that make-up deculture, Ozma you are broken, and Grace prepare to squeel like a fangirl. Mr. Bilrer will fund it…
As I said before I look forward to an EPIC ENDING along those lines. As much as I liked Ranka, despite her cuteness and Aoi no Ether, my inner Macross Fan is demanding a lot more. Having Sakura-hime as the savior of Frontier would be just that, the second coming of Basara, Max, and Millia would just be icing on the cake. No a Ranka concert is simply not enough, I want to see Sakura-hime Azuma Bunsho, I want to see Kawamori fanboying on Battle Frontier, I want to see Grace say “Yakk DECULTURE!” as Alto-hime walks onto stage. Any one who thinks a mere singing of Lion is a fool that needs their Macross Fan membership revoked, my desired ending would make every Macross fanboy and fangirl cry Yakk Deculture at the sheer amount of win and awesome. Mr. Kawamori I implore you to make it happen using Mr. Bilrer’s billions!
Because they want to know more about hime. Kakizaki plans to ask more questions as a true fan of Alto-hime should.
Maruyama Kakizaki really likes his taicho-hime.
See even people in the show know this to be true.
Boo…we wanna know more.
Is it still pineapple salad?
Oh…
Maruyama Kakizaki is so glad tht his taicho-hime cares.
Kakizaki and “Dead Meat” jones were so gladt to have such a glorious taicho-hime that they added custom colors to hime’s VF-171EX.
Alto-hime’s waifu comes to pick hime up every day…
“Dead Meat” Jones always keeps his yuri goggles with him.
Maruyama Kakizaki has his set to OVER 9000 at all times.
Oh taicho-hime no matter where you go every one remembers Sakura-hime Azuma Bunsho, except one…who never bothered to ask.
Well if hime didn’t Kakizaki and “Dead Meat” Jones might end up being roommates.
Hime is not ashemed to be with Sheryl, hime just doesn’t want his underlings as squaters.
Sheryl remember when cutting use a cat’s paw…
Hime wants to kiss your boo boo Sheryl…
Hime will just suck the blood and put a band aid on it…
Oh right, the v-type infection thing…
That she is.
:3
I see now why Sheryl fell for that smile.
It seems that all blue haired pilots can cook, isn’t that right Max?
Sheryl likes himes who can cook. I also see that Sheryl is ready for marriage too.
At least it don’t taste bitter.
Well…
…what do you think?
Sheryl’s dream was to have a hot meal with some one she loved.
Today Sheryl’s wish will come true, even if her etiquette isn’t up to snuff…
I think she’s giving a hint about something…
I think Sheryl meant sexy Alto-hime.
There is a British word for being drunk to the point you become a toddler, but I seem to have forgotten it…
I think Sheryl was trying to give Alto-hime a kiss…
Well if only Sheryl were a couple feet closer…
It’s part of being an adult hime…
Wow Alto-hime is pretty strong even without his EX-Gear.
Hime is a Kabuki hime of his word.
See hime will always be there.
It’s odd…
Hime knows, hime knows…
That evil Grace…
Sorry Ai-kun, but the Vajra need to pay you back for tearing up Alto-hime’s papaer plane.
As do we all Mr. Bilrer.
Tell them what?
Umm…Ranka Ai-kun’s eyes are glowing red, their bright hue tells Ai-kun to give thou thine due…
Don’t look so surprised Ranka the only difference between Ai-kun and the one who killed Mikhail was about 24 hours.
And lo did Ai-kun doth snatcheth his amorous beloved Ranka.
Well met Brera. We meet again ere the end…
Stupid Brera, like that would have done anything…
No Grace’s gaze pierces earth, cloud, shadow, and flesh…
They don’t think much of Brera, obviously…
Here here!
Grace knew the whole time…
…and the greatest of your crimes Ranka shall feel within herself!
Grace is the fairy godmother.
No there will be no glass slippers…
Welcome to the Cylons Brera, I think we will get along fine as long as you know who is your master…
What’s that coming over the hill? Is it a Vajra? Is it a Vajra…?
Only at the end do you understand.
Raep tyme?
Grace likes to hear people scream and beg for mercy…
Grace is victorious once again.
Because hime had no where else to go!
Me neither.
Loli shouta Alto-hime is still cuter…
Miyo-sama will watch over Frontier, also she’s a prettier mom than Ranshe. Those really are some genes.
…
…
…
Like I said funny how button mashing the F5 Key sometimes results in unintended shots, but by your command Klein onee-chan.
Say goodbye Relena Ranka.
To be fair hime never answered…
Sheryl was a bit sad…
…but not defeated. Sheryl will do her duty onto death.
War’s coming…
Nene is back!
If the whole world has gone crazy, then I’ll believe in myself and keep on fighting. Ranka… I will kill you.
Alto-hime, life is cheap. Especially mine.
You’re going to self-destruct? That’s not a bad plan either…(done)

Strike Witches 11: let’s all turn on Miyafuji! « nekodan added these pithy words on Sep 15 08 at 11:42 pmOh how I have waited for this blog. Crusader, you are the fairest blogger of them all. The warcry for Fatherland is strong, hime must do his part as Sheryl is. It shall be an explosive finale may it be dog-ears’ last.
JustinStrife added these pithy words on Sep 13 08 at 10:41 pmis no one wondering why with that much daikon and a big pot of ‘broth’ that there seems to be no much on the table?
Tenryu added these pithy words on Sep 13 08 at 11:14 pmHmm well with a name like Alto I’m expecting Hime’s performance to save everyone. If it doesn’t come I will be most disappointed!
Skittles added these pithy words on Sep 13 08 at 11:23 pmRanka: “I’ll take Ai-kun back to his people and end the war… wait, why did your eyes go red? Where are you taking me?”
Brera: “Ranka. Ranka? RANKAAAAAAAAAA?!?”
FISSION MAILED
I think this is the part where Grace goes “Just as planned!”, especially once the Vajra start turning Ranka into the Queen of Blades by integrating her into their network. You know, everyone who was joking about Ranka becoming the next Kerrigan apparently were onto something after all… especially since Ranka’s initial plan failed, and Brera (as I expected) got pwned by Grace so he can’t rescue Ranka from the now-independent Ai-kun who is no longer an obedient pet - but rather a member of a rather pissed off race who kept getting their asses nailed because Ranka helped Frontier do it.
She definitely didn’t think this one through. Oops. Especially as now Alto’s been told that it’s ‘us’ or ‘them’ and Ranka is now one of ‘them’. Between that, Sheryl dying and accelerating her own death by refusing treatment, and his frustration at how things have gone… Alto’s hot-headed pilot mode is starting to look more and more like he’ll drop a bomb on Ranka, and Ranka will have to be the one to stop him, Leon, and Grace. Assuming, of course, that SMS doesn’t sweep into the middle of things to save the day somehow.
So now we’ve two or three episodes left (usually shows like this go from 24-26 eps) to wrap things up. It’s too close to the end to get a RankaxAlto Good End; we’re more likely than not to see a ‘Normal’ end which ends without any member of the triangle, or one which ends with one or two dead members.
Mind you, it’s kinda interesting how Grace’s idea of lab wear includes camisoles… she really IS Major Kusanagi’s evil twin.

Eeep! Scary picture transform! ^^; ‘Randomly’ pressing F5 indeed…
Such a pity, really, since little Ranka>moe Ranka.

I put my Yuri-goggles now… OH I SEE IT! I SEE IT…! GRACE/RANSHE CONFIRMED! IF NOT WHY DO GRACE PAYS ATTENTION TO RANSHE?
And… SAKURA-HIME AZUMA BUNSHO! SAKURA-HIME AZUMA BUNSHOOOOOOoooooo…..!!!!!
Crusader, don’t worry about our dear bridge bunnies. Kawamori is a man of love, and he shall not leave Ram and Mina when Monica has already tie her life to her love. We will see them happy with their respective “potential” partners, a reward for remaining faithful to what they believe until the end.
*Fangirl mode on* Oh sh….! If AltoxSheryl does not happen… I need to set up a club for planning to fold bomb Kawamori…! I need to see more Sheryl smile and less cry…! Besides, AltoxRanka would be the worst developed coule if anything happen…*/fangirl mode*
Serious thought : Wow… After seeing the subs version, I can’t believe that I missed out Yasaburo and Alto’s dialogue about him always act all along this time, since he is an actor by heart. So all these time… We misunderstood Alto? Oh my God, well done Kawamori, well done…! (And toast to Kabuki Alto end path opened!)
I really love Alto-hime from the very start, but this episode just have thicken my love for our Soldaten-hime. If anything, he would be the only Macross Male-center Triangle that I would love (Out of SDF, II, Zero, and Frontier)!
As for Alto reason for joining SMS… With all due respect, but all who pointed out love=protect need their brain work a little. Signs of love? Maybe, but coupled with fold bombing is in any way not love, you RankaxAlto shippers.
GG subs has one word that confuses me : “desire”. According to the definition, “ai” does not have any kind of inclination to “Desire”. I wonder if they used it not to make ambiguous sentence or just pure mistranslation…
P.S : Alto-hime has us broken too much. Lion is just a mere duet song in the face of our greatest oyama performance of Anime history. (Oh and your Blogging is breaking my Funny o’ Meter. Good job!) Have hope, ye all who is waiting for Alto-hime, for t’is is the best end to celebrate the 25th Anniversary for Macross! *Joins Ai Ai Alto bandwagon*

I wouldn’t say so soon that she has failed yet. Grace is still calling her the QUEEN, so obviously there is still some secret about Ranka’s potential influence over the Vajra that has yet been completely revealed.
How much does anyone want to bet that Ranka holds the locked potential within her to resolving the conflict between the Vajra and Fontier, and Alto holds the key, in the form of his kiss, in unlocking it?

Sakura-hime Azuma Bunsho is a GOOOOOOOOO!
@Tenryu
Why they donated it to a soup kitchen of course…
@Skittles
I hope it happens it has best end written all over it.
@Haesslich
Fission Mailed indeed…I guess Ranka did not ask Brera to steal Grace’s notes or anything. Ranka’s poor choice of companions has really doomed her this time, not that it was unexpected. i liked how Grace told Brera that the fairy tale was over and done with. After all there can only be one hime. Like a lot of smart and dangerous women Grace has a great senses of style, I for one would have loved to intern for her. Grace now has the ultimate power in the universe she will use it wisely…
The Pirates of Quarter might not be able to do much if Grace takes command of the Vajra. I am still hoping for Grace to take on Ozma and show the “man” how a woman fights. I am really impressed by Oberst Grace, she snuck up and dinged that bug perfectly. It also seems that Grace never did like the bugs, it’s just that they are only an ugly looking means to an end.
I agree that it is a little late for a Ranka good end, though Sheryl is still in the running since she was channeling some real good Misa there. Still I think that it would be very much preferable for a Yakk Deculture ending with Sakura-hime Azuma Bunsho.
@Nakki
Hopefully Mina, and Ram will meet some nice boys in Maruyama Kakizaki and “Dead Meat” Jones. Both will do their best to help their taicho-hime it would be a shame if their efforts went unrewarded. Alto-hime will long be remembered as the prettiest male lead of them all. Also hime will be remembered for his willingness to fold bomb another member of the triangle.
Love is a funny word it need not have romantic connotation, a man may love his country but he would never try to sleep with it…
Welcome to Ai Ai Alto-hime comrade we are going to have so much fun…
@bakaneko
No Ranka fubbed this one the next mission better go better. Your proposed ending is so cliche its not even Kawamori. No there will be no kiss to save the universe, scare Zentradi yes, but never to solve inter species conflict for good. Nay nothing short of Sakura-hime Azuma Bunsho will bring a new age of peace after the Vajra ambassador Ranka was not up to the challenge. ![]()
‘Oh sure the Ranka fans will cry hime has chosen Ranka while ignoring the threat of fold bombing her into oblivion, but such talk is silly for if bombs were a measure of love then by such flawed and uncouth logic the Palestinians love the Israelis (and vice versa) and the US really loved Japan to atomic levels.”
BEST . QUOTE. EVER.
Seriously, freaking saved …
@Crusader, I’m only saying so about the kiss because that’s the question sang about in Triangular since the first episode.
Cliche in anime? Are you new to anime? ![]()
bakaneko: At this point, unless she gets some MAJOR growing up done in the next episode or so, she’ll be controlled by Grace along with the other Vajra as Grace O’Connor/Humanoid Cylon Number Seven ties her cybernetics into VajraNET and controls ALL of them… which is starting to look like it includes Ranka. Or she could break Ranka down mentally the way she did Sheryl… and the latter was far more strong-willed than Ranka’s shown herself to be in twenty-two episodes. Ranka’s been far too easily to manipulate, and now with Brera-nii under Grace’s remote-control and her being isolated from all her friends with even Ai-kun turning against her? If she’s anything like her mom, she’s going to be Grace’s puppet and dancing to Grace’s tune. This of course assumes that Ranka maintains her own sense of self instead of becoming Vajra in more than just having a V-type infection and joining the hive mind in the process like a Macross version of Kerrigan.
And that kiss thing? At this point, Alto’s promising to bomb the shit out of Ranka. She’ll have to be the one who forces him into it, and unlike episode 10 it’s unlikely that Alto will be without a helmet… much less get close enough to pop Alto’s cockpit and then open up his helmet to vacuum if they’re in space, without Alto trying to take a shot at her. Plus, that song was talking about Misa, Minmei, and Hikaru… not these three. Alto’s been friendly with Ranka, but Ranka’s taken Alto for granted the whole time - she knows more about Brera than she does about Alto, even now. And she sure doesn’t seem to be thinking about Alto at this moment, even though one usually thinks about those important to oneself during times of danger or imminent death.
Well, NOW we know why Ranka’s called “Super Dimensional Cinderella” - the bell has struck midnight, and Brera the Chauffer with the Pumpkin-wagon’s been turned into a plain old pumpkin again. And Prince Charming’s vowed to kill her, to boot. She is SO going to have to get her mojo back if she wants to stay in the game. She really should’ve kept an eye on her threat ring, that Ranka.
Grace: “You and the beasts are no different…scorched shadows born to the world. When a beast steps into the light…unless the light is put out…the shadows cannot be erased. So long as there is light…there is shadow. To return everything to normal…the light must be extinguished. And when that happens…you…will be…too.”
Figures that one can mine Metal Gear Solid for quotes now.
Haesslich added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 2:17 amI also feel compelled to note that Ranka didn’t seem to consider the idea that the Vajra MIGHT be upset with her for getting so many of them killed. Or that Ai-kun could possibly turn against her, despite being a Vajra and seeing Vajra like Ai-kun kill Mikhail a few days ago. Or that she could get stuck out there without a fold-capable ship if something went wrong with her plan… all of which happened here.
Tehmzin: “The path you walk on has no end. Each step you take is paved with the corpses of your enemies. Their souls will haunt you forever. You shall have no peace. Hear me, Alto! My spirit will be watching you!”
Haesslich added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 2:29 amCome on, Ai-kun did not turn on Ranka. A tentacle through her guts would be turning against her. The Vajra were turning against Brera whose ship they recognized for killing many of them.
bakaneko added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 2:40 amAs for Macross, bakaneko, they typically go out of their way to trounce the cliches - that’s why Misa won in the first series, why Mylene made no decision at the end of the Macross 7 series, why Sara ‘died’ to join the Bird-man and Shin ended up transcending rather than getting her back in a happy ending, and why Earth DIED in the original series with only a million survivors in the various Grand Cannon bases and in orbit. Macross Plus ended with death as well, and the VF-X2 game ended with a scene reminiscent of Macross Plus and the heroes pulling a similar stunt to what happened here.
Plus they pulled out all the stops when it came to the pineapple salad in Episode 17. Kawamori’s not afraid to go against convention, just to troll people. I don’t think it’ll end with a simple kiss like you suggested - or at least, Ranka as she currently is will be unlikely to try something like it given her general lack of thought, spine, or character growth. Alto’s unlikely to do it since he hasn’t shown he wants Ranka that way - he wanted to protect her, but now he wants to kill her as much as he used to want to protect her - nor does protectiveness equal romantic love.
Remember, in this series the only time Alto’s initiated a kiss was… last episode, and not with Ranka. Every other time, he had to be forced into it by either girl. Ranka will have to do the honors, somehow bypassing his squadron along with a horde of Vajra and NUNS forces to open his cockpit and his helmet so he will suffocate in space due to a lack of vacuum, to kiss him. Oh, and she’ll have to open her helmet too, which will affect her negatively even if she is one-quarter Zentran… and Alto doesn’t have that advantage. He’s more likely to be focusing on trying to breathe or kill the Vajra than on kissing her.
“War has changed. It’s no longer about nations, ideologies or ethnicity. It’s an endless series of proxy battles, fought by mercenaries and machines. War, and its consumption of life, has become a well-oiled machine. War has changed. ID tagged soldiers carry ID tagged weapons, use ID tagged gear. Nanomachines inside their bodies enhance and regulate their abilities. Genetic control. Information control. Emotion control. Battlefield control. Everything is monitored, and kept under control. War has changed. The age of deterrence has become the age of control. All in the name of averting catastrophe from weapons of mass destruction. And he who controls the battlefield, controls history. War has changed. When the battlefield is under total control, war…becomes routine.”
Haesslich added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 2:43 amCome on, Ai-kun did not turn on Ranka. A tentacle through her guts would be turning against her. The Vajra were turning against Brera whose ship they recognized as killing many of them.

Thanks, anyone who thinks a bomb is a instrument of love needs their head examined.
@bakaneko
This is not anime this is MACROSS! Heck we went from Plus to Macross 7 there are no rules just the whims of Kawamori and his team. We even had Macross Zero to confirm that Kawamori is quite spectacularly insane, which is why we like him so damn much. Ai-kun turned on Ranka because Ai-kun was not being a good pet and listening to Ranka, in fact you could say the Vajra in a general revolt against Little Queen. More importantly Ai-kun refused to listen to Ranka’s song.
@Haesslich
With this supposed to be the mother of all battles for this series I don’t want Ranka to start stealing time to develop when she should have been doing so many episodes ago. Grace is almost certain to bend Ranka to her will as Grace is most cunning and was able to merely bully Ranshe into being a wet blanket. Grace has been able to pull every one’s strings I don’t see how Ranka can escape such a fate. Grace did not survive this long by being the kind of person who is thwarted by children. Sad to see that Brera is better known to Ranka than my Alto-hime, I just think that for Ranka any rescuer will do.
Grace is just awesome not only did she proabaly come up with the term or at least mercilessly promote it that now that midnight has past Ranka is once again without anyone as she abandoned them all for the sake of her new friends. Changing her reasons for leaving will not absolve her for only thinking of Ai-kun and herself when she left.
Triangular is not an apt comparison though Sakura-hime Azuma Bunsho might be, Alto-hime is Sakura-hime who had one lover die for her sake while she killed another who had harmed her family. Here’s the link:
http://www.kabuki21.com/sakura_hime.php
If the comparison holds true with the Sakura-hime theme that dominated Alto-hime’s life then is is very possible that Alto-hime will have what it takes to open up on Ranka if hime feels that Ranka has caused too much harm to the fleet. Not sure how much influence the play will have in the end though. Still I have faith that this being the 25th Anniversary and all that somethings might stay the same. Last time Sheryl wasn’t forcing anything on Alto-hime, hime kind of went in to her room on his own and it was not to talk about God.
Oh and one last thing:
And Prince Princess Charming’s vowed to kill her, to boot
There fixed. ![]()

…. Told you all she was fugly as hell.
Missali added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 2:52 amRemember the sign of a hostile Vajra, bakaneko? Red eyes? He carried her away from her fighter, even though she told him not to. Up to that point, Ai-kun’s been well-behaved and had purple-red eyes rather than the glowing red eyes that the berserk Vajra in Ep 20 or the Red Vajra of earlier episodes had. He pulled her away from Brera, tied her into the web, and she has no more control over him than she did over the rest of the mob three episodes before.
If they were turning against Brera, then why weren’t they attacking him? Their usual response to hostiles has been to launch missiles or fire ship-killer beams. Instead, they left him strictly alone while snatching Ranka away from Brera, and tying her into the net. It’s looking more like they see her as a threat or as a wayward member in need of discipline, which is why she’s being linked to VajraNET, and Number Seven/Grace O’Connor wants to be tied into it too so she can control them.
Unlike Ranka, the Vajra have never been shy about expressing displeasure at people. If anything, they usually act like rabid beasts when confronting humans on Frontier or when they see Variable Fighters. The fact they didn’t do more than look in Brera’s direction showed that they weren’t interested in him; it was Ranka who was their target, and when Ranka started crying she realized that she didn’t have as much control over the situation as she’d hoped… and perhaps that the Vajra were drawn to her, which meant that the attacks were ‘all her fault’.
“Everything has its beginning. But it doesn’t start at one. It starts long before that - in chaos. The world is born - from zero. The moment zero becomes one is the moment the world springs to life. One becomes two, two becomes 10, 10 becomes 100. Taking it all back to one solves nothing. So long as zero remains, one will eventually grow to 100 again.”
Haesslich added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 2:55 amRed eyes could just mean being alert. From what I remember, Vajra do not take prisoners; they just crush them into tomato juice on the spot.
As for the hive’s mutiny, I’ve never heard of bees turning on their queen (but I’m no biologist).
I just can’t imagine the Vajra intending harm on Ranka.
bakaneko added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 3:13 amI actually like Brera and his cyborg-ness…he didn’t betray them. Just Grace has a kinky remote control to make him do whatever she wants.
Anyway, Ranka is annoying, but I want to know how Sheryl will act around Hime after that small confession.
Grace will make an amazing school princable
Nokutetsu added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 3:40 am1 - I hate to be right in my bad premonition about Alto not loving Sheryl.
2 - But Crusader made a good brainwashing job, so I cant hate Alto or maybe right now I am to depressed for Sheryl.
3 - A few coments more about volk and fhaterland and it can look like Leon produced PR for endure rationing and make more sacrifices until the Vajra is destroyed. I believe that even Ranka fans silently can understand that a responsible adult and soldier cant risk millions for one loved person.
4 - So the basic idea of the plan of Leon is:
a) shoot the Vajra brain/Queen/Ranka for kill them all.
b) get their planet for build a solid base for Frontier.
c) harvest all the vajra honey/fold quartz.
d) use them for conquer the Galaxy with: fast Fold travel and Fold-weapons.
5 - Grace basic plan is get their hands on the Vajra Queen for use the fold-net for expand the Galaxy/Cylon ciborg implant Network. Most likely she is going to use Leon/Frontier as a pawn for do the dirty work with the Vajra defenses and steal Leon cahnce in the last minute for absolut cruelty. But Im still not sure about how she is going to hack the net. My theory is by implants in the Queen/Ranka. So she plan to control the Vajra like she control Brera?
6 - I still dont get a clear idea of how Bilrer plan to use SMS for derail Grace Plans aside of be an independient wild card. It can work with a surprise attack, but not very original.
7 - What the vajra exactly want to do with Ranka. Of course she is an interesting link between the vajra and the humans. Maybe they are curious about the humans feelings that she transmit to their minds, that looks more guided by natural instincts of hive mind.
Hmm… let’ me make some crazy speculations: SMS + Alto slow Grace + Slave Brera. Maybe Sheryl die after the last song, but with the song she can wake up sleeping Ranka. Then Ranka can melt with the Vajra mind, evolving in a hybrid Vajra-human mind that than comunicate with humanity and decide to migrate all the Vajra race to another Dimension/Galaxy/unreacheable far place for avoid the humans/zentrady/ciborgs get their hands on the fold quartz/Zero time fold comunication network and extint the Vajra like the Whales. Alternative is Ranka play the Hamelin card by temporaly hacking the Vajra mind and led all the Vajra to the center of the sun, saving everyone with a suicide gesture. Anyway I see these, the existence of Vajra is to dangerous for having them playing around like Zentran & Meltran. Zentran and Meltran dont carry fisible material in their bodies and the entire race cant be controled in an instant by implants in a Queen. I think that the logic ending is Ranka-Vajra Exile or Ranka-Vajra Suicide. Of course, if Ranka ascend to a superior form of life, there is the chance for cure Sheryl disease as a farewell gift and happy endindg with AltoxSheryl. But it really force the limits of credibility.

While I would love a performance of Sakura-hime in the finale, I can’t see it serving any practical purpose in the final clash with the Vajra. It’d be hilarious though if he does perform for some reason during the final battle and ends up breaking all the Vajra and everyone on Frontier.
justam added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 6:16 amCrusader I have a confession, I watched this raw and was “this” close to raging during the roof top scene, thankfully this misunderstanding got cleared up when I was told by the #macrossuki guys what Alto actually said. Can you ever forgive me for doubting your Alto-Hime ![]()
Alto loves Ranka and Sheryl’s bound to kick the bucket. Gotta say, this made my day (for I have been craving for this ending since episode one).
Great post!
Though I still can’t see why you’re so irritated by Brera. Nearly every show has a Brera of its own and this version is certainly not the worst onii-chan-from-the-past-cyborg-with-wiped-memories I’ve witnessed. With all of the emphasis on her long lost brother and Ozma taking his place after Ranka lost her memories, the guy was simply bound to turn up. And we naturally needed some competition for Alto-hime, therefore I’m glad that role was taken up by Brera-nii, instead of, say, Michael.
Myu added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 9:14 amCrusader probably has a crush on the hairless bare-chested Brera, which he redirects as jealousy toward Ranka. :p

bakaneko added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 10:04 amWow….Alto-hime really has a way with words and the ladies with the whole ” I will kill Ranka”….I dont want to see Sheryl gone it just dosen’t feel right, and knowing how Alto is with her because she reminds him of his sickly mother makes her state seem more pitiful…but I really want the whole reunion with Brera, Ranka’s older brother Ozama, and Alto + everyone else living in a world called earth.
Alto: Look everyone real skies!
Ranka: Brera, lets sing Aimo together!
Sheryl: Wow im not dead! Great of course because im Sheryl!
@Missali
I guess Ranka has an ugly side too…
@Haesslich
Since the Vajra didn’t give Ranka a protective bubble I think that they do consider her a little traitor, that or Grace has been messing around with Ranka for some time and they suspect that something is off. Either way Ranka’s pleas for peace don’t seem to be making much head way on the Vajra front either, just goes to show that Ranka did not think this one through and underestimated how much of a gross betrayal Aimo Grace re-mix was.
@bakaneko
The bugs are beasts even Ai-kun was already tearing up Alto-hime’s paper planes and jumping on Alto-hime’s face in attempt to kill hime. That was when Ai-kun was domesticated… No red eyes most likely mean to kill. Also in the case of the Vajra mutiny, there can only be one queen in a colony…
@Nokutetsu
Brera was a sleeper agent, he is still a traitor because Grace intended to use him as such from the start. Brera got cocky and underestimated Grace.
Sheryl will be fine she’s stronger than that, at least she isn’t wishing that she were dead or some other BS.
Grace is amazing.
@mareo
No right now since it is Kawamori anything is possible even the bugs going off a cliff in a lemming like rush prompted by a bulldozer.
Nene was finally given some justice in the animation department, boy will this be good.
@rollchan
Misa! Misa! Misa!
@Errant
Ranka was supposed to save them now she is in a position to kill them all, Ranka fled her duties, she no longer has any right to demand anything from Frontier.
@indr0008
No. It’s too late.
@forgottendiary
Ranka is now the worst back seat pilot in the history of Macross. Poor gullible Ranka jumped out to her kidnapper, and was shocked that it happened.
@Cherubium
It will be devoured by the iSlug.
@justam
My Alto-hime was channeling a bit of Max there with his mad domestic skills.
Practical? Bah if songs can make the Zentrans mellow out then noting short of a performance of the greatest oyama in the galaxy can demolish the hive mind of the bugs. It doesn’t have to makes sens all that is needed is a Yakk Deculture moment to save humanity. Ranka’s song has no more power she pauses every to often leading to death. No one performance of Sakura-hime Azuma Bunsho will end the war once and for all.
@Westlo
Penance must be exacted you must pray five times a day pointing towards the east where Kawamori is for a well funded performance of Alto-hime as Sakura-hime. Do this an all will be forgiven.
@Myu
Bah Brera was an enemy of my Alto-hime and the Kaifun equivalent. No Brera must die preferably slain while in plain sight of Ranka. Too long has Brera been allowed to heap shame upon my Alto-hime, but that will soon end…
@bakaneko
Sod off Brera-fag. Brera is an enemy who has tried to kill my Alto-hime. Like all such worthless bastards that hang around Ranka Brera must die along with Ai-kun. I want my Alto-hime to slay them both as Ranka watches.
@Claricandyxd
Brera does not deserve a happy end after trying to kill my Alto-hime. No my end is better because Brera and Ai-kun die for their insolence at trying to attack my Alto-hime.
Ranka didn’t have to go through with it..there more logical solution

Xena added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 3:23 pmbakaneko: All of the quotes I gave fit with the characters so far, or with elements of Frontier. That last one… doesn’t. Plus, you’ve seen what red eyes mean with Vajra before, right? Usually that’s the look they get when they’re going into a rampage - whereas Ai-kun had black or purple eyes before. Turning into glowing red coals signaled a change in Ai-kun, and one that meant he was no longer just her obedient Ai-kun, but a green Vajra who was subservient to the Hive-mind that was discussed in this episode.
justam: Those were tuna buns, not dumplings that Ranka had in Episode 3.
mareo: I think it’s because they took the time to actually draw Nene this episode, and give her well-defined facial features. That, and they apparently expanded her bustline to make her an ace like Klein, since before this she was… smaller.
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/5617/macrossf04kleintriogianbb2.jpg
See the size difference?
Crusader: As I’ve said before, she really doesn’t think things out… which means she tends to get dragged into trouble because she’s either manipulated into things, or else her actions provoke worse issues. It’s interesting to see how both Ranka and Sheryl react differently when ‘rejected’, though… especially since neither of them seems to have much experienced in romance. Sheryl’s the professional, as you pointed out… while Ranka ended up wishing herself and everyone dead, and provoked a riot. And now Alto’s promised to kill her, since it’s now gotten really simple for him thanks to Leon and Bilrer’s intimations that it’s an ‘us or them’ situation with Ranka being on the other side.
I’ve never found ‘I’ll kill you’ or ‘if I can’t have you, I’ll kill you’ to be a declaration of love from anyone save a stalker… and that’s not love, but more obsession and jealousy.
And ye gods, but those last few screenshots from the previews look GREAT. Now we see where the budget saved in Episode 8 went; Klein, Nene, and Sheryl all look gorgeous.
Haesslich added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 4:38 pm@Haesslich
Ranka is damsel in distress de jour. She really is coming close to the level of cardboard cutout that the protagonist has to rescue in video games…It is such a shame that it has come to this, not once has Ranka demonstrated that she can be a woman who can do things on her own without help or people pushing her forward. Sheryl at least doesn’t breakdown and feel sorry for herself, I admire her composure and coolness under fire.
I think that both Bilrer and Leon know that Grace is up to no good and that Brera was her means of getting Ranka into her cylon clutches. Ranka is the only one who can really save Ranka, I bet Grace is just so damn good that no other ace can take her simply because she is a cylon overlord. The only person who ostensibly said “I’ll kill you” out of “love” never did get it on with the person he said it to…
I am glad they saved the budget for more important things like Nene, Klan onee-chan, and Sheryl. Gorgeous, delicious, and deculture indeed.
Crusader added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 5:01 pmSo Alto joined SMS just so he could protect Ranka? That to me seems not much better than Ranka’s original drive to sing? One could almost say that for such a dunderheaded reason, they deserved each other…at one point. That’s long past now, though.
Such a pity about Ranka, though, why she had to turn out this way.
I loved her, and I hope she does “get her mojo back” in the next couple episodes. Does her predicament remind anyone else a bit of Anakin Skywalker?
After hearing that Sheryl heard Alto’s comment though, I kinda think he’ll end up single at the end of the series (unless Klan takes a liking to him).
Andrew added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 5:08 pmAndrew: If Ranka’s like Anakin, then Alto’ll end up killing her the way Luke (indirectly) killed Vader. Redemption = Death and all that. Probably not a happy ending for anyone but the shippers on the Sheryl x Alto boat.
And yeah, I think Alto’ll end up with his normal end, “Love Slips Away”. He flew to run away from his family and because he loved his mom and couldn’t get over her death… then he flew to protect Ranka, now he’s flying to protect his home since he can’t protect Sheryl from dying and his own homeship is now on the verge of going down with Sheryl after the repeated Vajra attacks, as well as major systems damage which has destroyed the ability of the ship to sustain its ecosystem. They have to settle, resupply while repairing the ship and getting everyone off… or die.
Haesslich added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 6:17 pmi for one think Alto not sucking Sheryl’s cut means that he sacrificed the chance to gain the ability to perform Fold-enhance kabuki!

While Alto-hime’s initial reason for joining was lackluster at least now hime has chosen volk and fatherland over Ranka.
Perhaps like Sakura-hime, Alto-hime will also share such a fate.
@Haesslich
At least I know that Sheryl will die a hero of fleet, and that Ranka will not get everything handed to her again. Still hoping for my EPIC END though. I’d love to see Millia again, as we can always use more Meltrans.
@LurkerJay
There are other ways to make such a thing possible, we still have time…
bakaneko = ani_d over at @ RC. They just can’t see Ranka for what she really is… a hack.
Kaori added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 8:14 pmOmfuggle I’m going to piss out my ass if it winds up being AltoxRanka. Holy shit, why would want to put up with that pedo-bait kid when you have independent, strong, attractive, mature, and intelligent Sheryl begging to get in your pants?
I hate romance-for-no-reason.
skoll added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 8:33 pmSo while not well thought out, at least Ranka’s sentiment was pure. Her ’selfish’ desire was to put an end to the conflict. I imagine if she’d have told her plan to hime instead of just saying she was taking ai-kun home he’d have been less pissed at her.
Which for the little growth of her character is probably about the one adult thing she has done so far, even if she went about it in a completely stupid way.
She put her desire to try and save everyone before her love for hime and now hime is doing the same thing. Putting his feelings aside for the benefit of everyone since I’m sure he doesn’t really WANT to kill her, but if she’ll be used as a tool he must. For her sake (since she didn’t want to be a tool) and for the sake of the fleet.
Hopefully Ranka can find it within herself to fight off Grace and help put an end to it all. Maybe she’ll stop Alto from having to bomb her, by taking herself and the Varja out.
D.J added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 8:40 pm@Kaori
No I think they are two separate entities.
@skoll
I hope that Sheryl gets her hime, but given how Sakura-hime turned out…
Though by chance have you seen School Rumble or Ranma 1/2 now that was romance for nothing…sort of.
@D.J
Sadly I don’t think too highly of Ranka for changing her reasons, after all changing you objectives might get you into trouble or make one look like a lair… politically at least.
Sakura-hime was willing to kill the man who slighted her family even though he was one of her lovers. Alto-hime might well do the same, in a similar fashion. I don’t think Grace is above using a hostage if the need arises. We are dealing with Grace so I don’t think there will be an easy way out considering that the evil Cylon has been screwing every one over without them knowing for the most part.
Hopefully Ranka can finally grow out of being the eternal damsel in distress.
Crusader added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 9:31 pmI’m glad that Alto came clean and admitted he knew both girls were crushing on him. This pretty much solidifies the notion that Alto doesn’t have romantic feelings for Ranka or Sheryl, and instead prefers to dress up as a pretty pretty princess. Deep in his heart, all Alto wants to do is fly with Ranka, Sheryl, and Bobby to a mall in the sky where they can shop for cute clothes and do a version of Hare Hare Yukai at a karaoke bar.
I cannot even begin to fathom how Leon thinks he is going to take the planet and the three moons. However, I am anxiously waiting for Grace to make her move and put her final plans into motion!
Kabitzin added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 9:38 pm@Kaori, what I see is a teenager who has been put on top of a pedestal and then when she falls from it she gets mauled and lynched.

bakaneko added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 9:40 pmGrrr… I don’t know why I’m arguing for Ranka. I’ve never even liked that green hair girl one bit.
bakaneko added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 9:47 pm@ Crusader
I mean romance-for-no-reason in the sense that a couple falls in love for no perceivable reason. Kare Kano? They fell in love because they complimented each other. Berserk? They were the best of comrades. Macross Frontier…. err…. she’s…. helpless?
skoll added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 9:54 pm@Kabitzin
I still have hope for Alto-hime finding Sheryl as a vaible suitor, they do complement each other rather nicely. However if Alto-hime wants to fold bomb Ranka to show his love and be done with it that’s just fine too…
If what Yasaburo says is ture the Alto-hime is basically the perfect guy for every girl, since hime just takes the role of ideal man at the drop of a hat. Still I prefer Alto-hime as he is with Sheryl, rather than that rather impotent protector that Ranka desires.
Grace will over awe us all as she will over power Ranka.
@bakaneko
Yes, I wonder why… Say are you a fifth column within Suki Suki Sheryl?
@skoll
I am sure that at this point there will be no Ranka “good” Ranka end that will not result in a fold bomb going off. Right now that is the only basis for such a relationship. Fortunately Alto-hime was mercilessly ignoring Ranka’s feelings and refusing to listen to her songs, since Alto-hime never became the perfect guy for Ranka via acting I suppose you could say that Alto-hime hates himself when he has to adopt the protector of Ranka persona. We all know how it has never worked out for the best.
At least with Sheryl hime seems to be at the top of his form in taking the role of Sheryl’s ideal hime. Kawamori has rarely favored the damsel in eternal distress I don’t think that will change unless its just for the sake of another epic troll.
Crusader added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 10:38 pmbakaneko: It’s one thing to fall from a pedestal, like Sheryl did. It’s another to take a running leap off it, piss on people (”I don’t want to sing for the dead. Will you run away with me even though we’re in the middle of a running battle to return Ai-kun the Vajra to his home? I know I was screaming about Mikhail last episode, but I’m fine now, see?”), and then run off with the rival of the person who you supposedly love… and then to have EVERYONE turn on you in-series as well, including Ai-kun, because Ai-kun became the Vajra he always was once he got near the rest of the nest… and the nest remembers you had bunches of them nuked and farmed for their fold-quartz and fold-ore. Oh, and your ride got ‘jacked by Grace who did a cyberbrain-hack on Brera, because now she has you where she wants you… and you led her to her Treasure Island in the first place.
Yeah… I think Ranka’s biography will be called “PWNED: Like Mother, Like Daughter”.
Haesslich added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 10:56 pmThe past few episodes have given me a heavy DYRL vibe, I can’t wait ’till the finale. I don’t believe I’ve been this involved in an anime since the original SDF Macross.
d3v added these pithy words on Sep 14 08 at 11:16 pm@Haesslich
Haha, oh yes Ranka did leap off her pedestal alright, certainly pissed on a lot of people and bugs too. She was at the top of the world but one heart break later and she threw it all away. Such a shame that unlike Sheryl Ranka has been tying to climb her way back up by grabbing treacherous rocks instead of stable ones like Sheryl. Let’s see Ranka chose Ai-kun and Brera to get back on her feet while Sheryl chose Alto-hime and Elmo. Clearly only Sheryl is not clouded in her judgement. Such a pity that Ranka had some faulty sense of trust.
I motion that the biography be renamed Bullied by Grace: Like Mother, Like Daughter. Grace is not only pwning them she is going way beyond that…
@d3v
Yeah there was a heavy DYRL vibe this time. I guess that the other Macorss series were shorter affairs for the most part with the oddity being Macross 7. At leat with an OVA you don’t have to wait too long to see things to the end.
Crusader: I hope you haven´t swallowed Yasaburos line that Alto is only becoming whomever his counterpart wants him to be. That´s some fierce projecting done by Yasaburo, who so very much desires that Alto returns to Kabuki that he´ll just about say anything to convince hime-sama.
Magnus added these pithy words on Sep 15 08 at 2:18 am@ bakaneko, “From what I remember, Vajra do not take prisoners”
How about go back and watch First Attack.
I have to say, with all mistakes she has made if Ranka still comes out alive and save the world at end, it’s not because she is good but the director decides so.
Herbert added these pithy words on Sep 15 08 at 8:05 amYeah… I think Ranka’s biography will be called “PWNED: Like Mother, Like Daughter”.
Hahahahaha, awesome. I wonder if cyberspace Grace was using Maid Guy Xray Vision on Ranshe the way she used it on Ranka… Grace has been getting more and more amazing with every episode. To think that she started as some barely-there manager!
Kabitzin added these pithy words on Sep 15 08 at 8:55 am“Oh Ranshe time you’re daily nibble from Grace, oh don’t mind the kids it’s better if they watch.”
I like where this is going…
I for some strange reason am not surprised. I think I have given up on the love triangle.
I am glad ranka finaly stopped being stupid and put the pieces of her missing memory together. lets see if you remember a boy with blond hair and a harmonica playing aimo, woudnt he possibly be your brother?? i guess thats what ranka gets for not finishing school and learning the vital skil known as critical thinking.
As of Ranka being sorry, she should face the death penality. She is responisble for the death of so many species. Fleets, battle groups got destroyed. Islands are being detached from frontier left and right. many Vajra have been killed. I am not surprised they reacted negative to her song.
the vajra home planet looks really nice. I love the orbital ring. Too bad MDE bombs, reaction weaponry and Rankas unstable emotions will destroy it.
well positive things, Nene will be in the next episode ![]()
@Magnus
If I am to get my EPIC Kabuki-hime end then Yasaburo has to be right. XD
Otherwise even a broken clock is right twice a day…
@Herbert
Indeed Grace is so awesome that nothing short of a plot twist will de-rail her plans.
@Kabitzin
It’s somewhat ironic that Grace has developed more as a character than Ranka at this point. Grace is AMAZING.
@EvilDevil
I hope they use costumes as well…
@Luke
Oddly enough once Ranka made it big she started skipping more school than Sheryl did. Ranka being sorry is no longer enough we need action, but with Grace in the way I don’t think well get it…
Nene does look more radiant in the preview than she ever did before, must be the battle aura.
