Being somewhat of a Negima! fan and even more of a SHAFT fan, I was rather excited to see this being released (and even subbed!). Despite having such a long title, the new “series” happens to be just three episodes long and are based more closely on the manga rather than what SHAFT did with the series previously.

This one is probably for all you Negima! fans out there since it jumps right into the later chapters in the manga without much explanation of what has happened so far. A few things happen in the beginning and if you haven’t had prior knowledge of the events that occur, I’m sure you’d be pretty confused as to what is happening (as I was). However, once the main part of the episode started, it was pretty much like a typical Negima! episode with a bunch of characters running around getting crazy.

Despite possibly needing to read the manga to fully enjoy these OVAs, I found the first episode to be enjoyable and can’t wait to watch the rest.

I believe Shaft’s Negima is based on a different Negima Manga (Negima?!) than this one is. So it’s not entirely their fault ![]()
The OAV is made for the (Akamatsu) Negima manga fans. So, yeah, unless you’ve been following the manga, some events will fly over your head, like Chao’s defeat.

@Myssa Rei: Exactly right. I was vaguely aware of Chao’s identity so that part wasn’t much of a surprise to me. But I didn’t know who all those new characters were really.
Shokkeru added these pithy words on Aug 24 08 at 2:34 pmT-T how sad i feel like one of the few people that keep up with manga, cuz personally i usually feel that the manga is better than anime though i still love anime anyways! and i do think that Negima?! the anime came first becuase this happens quit a lot to popular animes they get made into mangas AFTERWARDS, so yes.
ANIMEKRAZY123 added these pithy words on Aug 24 08 at 7:36 pmi don’t understand why there is so much confusion on what came first? Although admitting it can’t be expected for everyone to know everything… that being said i checked wiki first and i’m 100% certain that Maho Sensei Negima! came out as a manga first, not anime… aparently the first anime series changed a lot of content so thats why its different (much like FMA)
the other, Negima!? anime is a different story/doesn’t follow the orginal manga, the manga Negima!? neo, is by another artist (under the guidance of Ken Akamatsu) follows after the Negima!? anime. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negima!%3F
Tenryu added these pithy words on Aug 25 08 at 7:03 amKinda a shame that it only has 3 OVAs. Which means that we’re not gonna get through the whole Magic Kingdom arc…
Vin-nii added these pithy words on Aug 25 08 at 3:04 pm@ Versus: Negima! Neo, the second manga, was based on SHAFT’s version of the Negima, not the other way around, so the anime is entirely their fault. Personally, I enjoyed Negima!?, so I wouldn’t have phrased it that way myself, but whatever.
