I think, with this episode, we have an answer to ‘why aren’t PPBs on all fighters’? The answer is “because they’re powered by GAR” Diamond Leader had enough GAR to power a PPB punch – Ozma has enough GAR to stop ship-killer beams, and after confessing love on an open channel, still can power his PPB knife through a Vajra shell and lead others to do the same. I was half expecting a “who the hell do you think I am?” speech after Brwea asked him what he was up to during that fight.

Crusader: Love doesn’t have to be returned to exist. Love is often be a one-sided affair, and is no less valid for it. Love returned is nice, though…. although in anime, it also tends to be another Death Flag. Then again, so is unrequited love…

Crusader: Did you not listen to Mina Roshan repeating Bobby’s feelings on the matter in Episode 14? It doesn’t matter who Ozma’s with – Bobby still loves him, and that’s what’s important; not that the love’s returned, but that Ozma’s alive and that Bobby cares.

I think that the sex made all the difference. Roy waited until AFTER the fight to go for it, and the pineapple, and then got done in. Ozma and Cathy went for it, forgot about the pineapple… and he lived, even if they both got the ‘bleeding out’ scenes. Now, he just has to watch out for the APPLE salad, and he’ll be good.

I guess Kawamori didn’t like the fact that we were fully prepared for it, nor do I think he wants us to mock Roy’s death through pineapples. You’re right though that was rather cheeky of Kawamori to taunt us with two instances of pineapple pancake. Indeed the cake was a lie… Plus Ranka made it, me thinks. I suspect Ozma will be done in by Kiwi Salad. Also Cathy was looking especially hawt this episode, oh yes making sweet love, and how!

Crusader: I thought it was the fact he had sex that mitigated the effect of the pineapples. Thank God, Kathy does apparently have good taste… it’s that or the Fire Bomber songs that did the trick. How much do you want to bet Bobby and Ozma got together at a Fire Bomber concert, and that’s why Bobby’s been worshipping Ozma ever since? As he noted to Elmo, Ranka’s very special to the person who he loves most, so…

Still, that WAS cheeky, putting the pineapples in where they did. They even gave a shout-out to Hikaru’s head-bandage from when he got shot down in Episode 17 of the original Macross.

It would seem that best way to neutralize pineapples would be to negate them with pancake, or simply bake for a few minutes…

I agree Kawamori just pwned us all. Somewhere he’s laughing his jaw off at how he lead us on, only to backhand all expectations. Clearly Mr. Kawamori is a most cunning fellow. I like that.

skoll: The reason they don’t do that is the same reason that you don’t disband your army, air force, and navy because you have nukes, depending solely on them to defend you from invasion; big-ass bombs have their place… but that place isn’t to fight tanks or infantry in your cities/ships unless you enjoy the smell of radioactive fallout or bombed-out landscapes. Plus, the fighters have things like… y’know.. RANGE; you don’t have to send the whole capital ship into danger – you just send the squadrons of fighters supported by bombers, to clean a place out. Plus, if the enemy’s already on your doorstep, nuking them hurts you worse than it hurts them – you’re destroying your own ships just to take out a few of them, rather than sending in grunts with guns to clear them out and save the buildings and maybe the people inside.
