   The Vajra-kebab was so strange and awesome, especially when Ram and Mina started with their commentary. They seem like they could have their own little omake section.

   I need to see Alto come back to see a handkerchief clamped in the door before Mikhail and Klan Klein come out looking all flushed and rumpled. I can just imagine Mikhail laying down these roomate ground rules for Alto while Alto is like “Whatever, I only like planes, not girls.”

   That food talk between Lam and Mena reminded me that they both share the same seiyuus as Tsukasa and Konata, though their comedy roles are reversed here.

   Also, agreed on Aimo: Grace Remix. It sucks.

   Yeah as Bridge Bunnies go I really like them for dressing elegantly and being all round good troopers who engage in witty banter. Shows me that these ladies are not mere decoration and are smart.

   Alto-hime’s grandest gesture of love would be to paint a pin-up of either Sheryl or Ranka on his VF-25.

   Yeah I think Grace was intentionally making a crap version of Aimo.

   Wow yea Sheryl must really feel a bit hurt. Alto did show some affection but not much im afraid. Anyways Brera is he all cyborg??? Well Ranka’s song really did do something…I wonder if she might take up the whole defeating Vajra, and singing career??? That would be exhausting but cool! Thnx again^^

    Yes, Ranka. Become more like Minmay, more. Cause that way you’ll never get your Hikaru and Sheryl’s victory is certain.

    Alto definitely needs a better ship or some sort of update or there’s no way he can compete with Brera. Once Ozma bites the dust he’ll be just about the best pilot Frontier has left and right now he can’t lay a finger on Brera and the other Galaxy valkyres. Afterall there is bound to be a showdown between Frontier and Galaxy at some point.

    It was kind of unsettling to see Aimo turn to the dark side. I still think naming his VF-25 after some one would be the grandest gesture along with a pinup. Hopefully Alto-hime will be getting another set of fuzzy dice later. XD

    I am still hoping that it won’t be a replay of what happened to Minmei, but at this rate Ranka’s ship is sinking fast hopefully she will get back in the race by tossing both Brera and Grace overboard to lighten the load.

    I am still betting on a super armored pack in the future.

    I really like Frontiers bridge bunnies compared to the original ones. I wish there was more Monica time in the episode.

    I was hoping maybe this episode gave a little mor indepth about Ranka’s feelings towards the Vajra.

    I dont know why Alto is so quick to drop his fast packs in space, the additional thrusters should make it more agile. I wonder what the bill is for everytime Alto goes into combat.

    I was thinking more along the lines of ’should I be trying to get to know her better’, or ‘flee the scene before murder takes place in Miclone mode’.

    Bearzerger: If that happens, then Sheryl’ll probably die too, since Kawamori doesn’t want to replay the same story in each Macross. Still, Alto-hime’s running away from relationships, although he seemed interestedin Sheryl’s earring, probably due to the fact it has Fold Quartz in it.

    Sad to say I think Luca might have gotten wind of how bad pineapple salad is for pilots…Also right now Brera is such a braggart that he doesn’t use any fast packs until Alto-hime gets good enough to face him.

    In that cas I think that discretion is the better part of valor that way you can apologize in a VF-25 and suffer a could AP slaps rather than being juiced Vajra style. I think this love triangle is going to be different but it is disheartening to see that Ranka has gotten into Minmei’s position through no fault of her own. Though I agree that it seems Alto-hime is the one who is striving to avoid emotional entanglements but that may soon change now that Sheryl seems keen on sticking to hime like glue.

    @Jack: Try beating my crazy insane record of watching that Zentradi song sequence in Episode 12, where I watched Ranka do that sparkling star pose for 83 fricking times before I had to forcefully restrain myself from watching it anymore.

    Crusader: I think confessing MIGHT help there. Or at least, help get an apology while you recover in hospital. Stupid Mikhail, making miclone-Klein cry like that.

    As for the rest, I suspect those two really ARE like the Nome sisters… or are half-sisters, which makes Episode 10 that much more significant in retrospect.

    The Amio song was strange for this episode. The first time I saw this episode I thought it was foreboding even without a translation. Then, after watching a sub with the actual lyrics for this version, I have a feeling this series is going to get deadly serious. And what’s up with the Ranka billboards in this episode, “Ranka Lee, First Live!! Revenge”(?).

    It’s basically the standard method of death for Skull Leader-esque characters. The original Skull Leader died after going to his waifu’s house for some pineapple salad hence a legend was born.

    Ranka missed out on her scheduled first live because of the Galia 4 incident so she will be having her actual First Live later on. The Aimo Mk Grace was already foreboding but the translated lyrics make it almost jingoistic.

    The iSlug is the latest product of biotechnology. Superior to every other phone in anime in terms of functionality. Oh and it also pisses pepper spray which it manufactures as waste product.

    I don’t think Kawamori is going to off any one in the main triangle, we haven’t seen such an event since Macross Plus and I have my doubts we will see more than one person get offed.

    Ozma is likely to die, though as he has already become a voice of dissent to Leon and Grace. Who knows what dark politics will do.
    I’d be interested to see how Sheryl rebuilds her stardom. As a Sheryl fan I can’t go without her songs

    Well, if they are typical boosters once their tank is empty they are just unnecessary baggage, so if you assume they run out of fuel whenever Alto discards them it makes sense.

    I don’t think an even better armor pack is gonna do the job. Brera’s VF-27 can fly circles around Alto, just giving Alto a bigger gun won’t change that. A new generation of missiles, which Brera can’t outspeed and shoot down at his leisure, could, but when have missiles ever hit anything but fodder in an anime?

    And as for the episode, I’ve agreed with Omni. It’s so hard to watch all three characters put through these obstacles > Alto losing to Brera (more than once now), Ranka being used, and Sheryl not being able to do anything but sit on the sidelines. I think I groaned at least 100 times during the episode. And ZOMG. Brera shot through Alto’s VF. Although he is what I term as “eye candy” for the ladies, he CANNOT be forgiven.

    There’s no way Sheryl will stay on the sidelines like this. She’ll probably investigate this whole deal about Grace and come to the conclusion that she was being used. THEN she’ll find the resolve to go do something about it. It’s funny how people are assuming she’ll complacently go to Alto and cry to him for comfort just because princess Alto can’t get near Ranka now(because of prince Brera XD). She’s not like that. And after ep 12, I also don’t believe the next episodes will further separate Ranka and Alto completely. They’re just making things look more interesting now by putting a hurdle between them. Isn’t that romantic *__*

    Like some others have been saying, Ranka and Sheryl will do the duet that will save everyone in the finale. Could it be Lion?

    Hmmmmm if only we could find a way to get Ozma’s pineapple salad sent over to Luca…

    And Klein looks so cute in the preview as does Chibi Ranka, something tells me Impz is go to be putting certain shots of next weeks episode on repeatu.

    Nothing at all may happen with Grace. Since she did tell Ranka that it would be no problem for her to manage both of them, she can probably easily talk her way back into Sheryl’s good graces (no pun intended).

    And if she decides to be a pilot I guess it just makes things even easier for Grace.

    But given the number of times they’ve had those two duet, it does seem plausible that they might both have a part to play in the defeat of the Varja.

    And Alto-hime might end up with neither of them. His poor ship!!!!! But nevermind, Ozma will be out of the picture next week so Skull 1 will be available. And that probably has some nifty features that Alto’ standard Valkyrie doesn’t.

    You know I think if Ozma is going to bite it, the poor man should at least get one last roll in the hay with Cathy. And since he’ll end up dead, he won’t have to worry about that nasty STD Cathy picked up from Leon…

    -Haha that’s so nasty.XD I just want Cathy and Ozma to settle their past before Ozma exits the stage. If they spare us that scene, it’ll be enough. Next week’s going to be heartwrenching. It would be so cool if Alto inherits Ozma’s VF-1. I feel bad that Ozma’s death flag is 99.9% set, but it would be like a power up for Alto to outshine Brera if he really does inherit the captain’s ship.

    I think that this episode had to be a downer to build tension for the shitstorm to follow. Good to see that Brera is not well liked.

    I don’t think Sheryl is going to do the digging but Cathy given how her Ozma is about ot get some pineapple salad. Besides Cathy has already been snooping around and Sheryl has to overcome her personal problems first. She’s not going to cry on Alto-hime shoulders the whole time but I think she will have to rebuild her shattered confidence before she can do anything probably with two eps tops. I think you underestimate how much of an obstacle Brera is given how he basically shut Alto-hime down for the whole ep I don’t think Alto-hime being able to beat Brera will be happening anytime soon.

    The Ranka and Sheryl duet won’t happen so soon me thinks at least not until well after the shock over Ozma’s death are overcome by Ranka.

    Indeed impz looks forward to episode 17 with great anticipation. I think that Alto-hime will end up with someone Kawamori Macross has never ended in such a manner yet and I doubt it ever will. Even if Alto-hime gets Ozma’s VF-25S I don’t think that Alto-hime will be in charge of the vic given how Mikhail and Luca have rank.

    i don’t think Leon is going to allow that to happen, hopefully it will be a quickie.

    Haha you’re so pessimistic, Crusader. Maybe Sheryl can get some words of encouragement from Alto. That would be good for her, I think. Though, I really don’t think her depression will last for two episodes or so. I just don’t see her sitting around for more than one episode doing nothing but wallow in self pity. She’s bound to do some stunts like the one she pulled in this episode. Yeah, Brera did pwn Alto in this episode and Alto looked so defeated at the end, but inevitably, Alto’s going to have to show him he’s not a push over. His chance will come. =)

    Besides, Brera’s protectee has a really high attachment to Alto, not to mention, the core of her character growth revolved mostly around Alto. I don’t think they did episodes 12-14 just so this new adversary can separate the two apart permanently. That’s why I just see this as a hurdle on the RankaxAlto front.:p If they get through this, then they’ll put Romeo and Juliet to shame. Also if Ozma dies, it’s not Brera Ozma’s going to entrust Ranka with, it’s going to be Alto. After ep 14, I think IF ever Ozma will be given a chance to talk to him one last time, he’ll tell Alto to protect Ranka in his stead.:( Ozma seems to be feeling like Ranka doesn’t need him anymore and is maturing as a woman more and more. Ugh, I’m getting sad already. Somebody cancel that pineapple salad. ~_~

    It might be two episodes because the next one is most definitely Ozma’s swan song, I doubt Sheryl is going to be factoring much in it…unless she makes the pineapple salad.

    If or rather when Ozma dies I am sure Ranka will be entrusted to with Cathy, Canaria, Bobby, or any combination there of. No self respecting onii-chan is going to leave Ranka under the care of a mere boy who can’t even afford his own house. Remember Alto-hime is still bunking with Mikhail and has no other home to stay in unless hime goes begging back to Ranzo. Sorry but Brera will be in the way for sometime, sadly. Let’s just hope it will be Bobby and we all know that GARby can definitely kick Brera’s ass and has the wit to get Ranka some Alto-hime time.

    Perhaps the change to the song was to change the fold wave pattern to cause the Vajra to react differently then the real song. If you remember the last big battle Ranka’s song had more of an attraction effect then a replant effect. Also if you remember the Vajra queen actually said something to the effect of brings peace and love to the galaxy So maybe the Vajra aren’t all that bad and we just need to invite them over for some Karaoke ;P

    And this whole Fold crystal thing, perhaps that is why the Vajra are pissed off and attacking. Galaxy was probably harvesting them for some time and they finally retaliated, and then in an effort to draw them away form the main fleet they turned the Vajra’s attention to Frontier so they could regroup and figure out what to do next.

    Also it could be that the change in song was to keep the real song hidden for a later encounter where they will need all the song power they can get!

    I still believe and predict a duet of Ranka and Sheryl on the bridge of the quarter. I can’t wait!

    Oh, and we are we going to get a Nekki Basara cameo???? Even if he can’t sing what about a scene where Ranka runs away from Grace and then Bumps into Basara on the streets (who is there playing a local club/bar) and gets some sage advice on sing from your heart and capturing your dream? RANKA!! LISTEN TO MY SONG!!!

    @Crusader, yeah it does seem unlikely he’d get put in charge of the squad. I’m hoping its Luca and that the new position comes with all the pineapple salad he can eat ^_- But given his talent for getting hit in a fight its probably not likely, he’ll be put in charge I mean.

    Just a random comment, but does it bother anyone that the military processes of artillery are alive (Koenig Monster) and well in an age of fighter-based warfare? Wouldn’t that imply that dreadnaughts and ships of the line (or plane, given the three-dimensional nature of space) are still effective? That would place the warfare in Macross F in a space-warfare period vaguely analogous to the nineteenth century, before the rise of the aircraft carrier. And if that is the case, why haven’t I seen a capital ship kill /anything/, save with the cheesy Yamato cannon?

    By the way, just so people know for future discussions, I’m a Sheryl guy because I’m not a dirty pedophile. That’s not to say I don’t find her cute, but there’s absolutely no arousal in me otherwise.

    Standard Sci-Fi set up, think of it as Star Wars, little fighters can still do damage but there is still a niche for heavy capital ships given how fighter vs fighter combat is still important. Hencc Koning Monsters fucntion as artillery on planets and as mobile gun turrets in space with some long rang Flak capacity.

    Hurmf. I don’t see why they don’t just line capital ships with Koenig cannons, as they appear to be longer ranged, more powerful and less expensive (in terms of upkeep and human lives) than send thousands of short-ranged, expensive fighters armed with expensive and slow nuclear missiles piloted by living breathing people. Then again, eliminating the Valkyrie would kinda neuter Macross, so this is purely theoretical, but nonetheless interesting.

    skoll: The reason they don’t do that is the same reason that you don’t disband your army, air force, and navy because you have nukes, depending solely on them to defend you from invasion; big-ass bombs have their place… but that place isn’t to fight tanks or infantry in your cities/ships unless you enjoy the smell of radioactive fallout or bombed-out landscapes. Plus, the fighters have things like… y’know.. RANGE; you don’t have to send the whole capital ship into danger – you just send the squadrons of fighters supported by bombers, to clean a place out. Plus, if the enemy’s already on your doorstep, nuking them hurts you worse than it hurts them – you’re destroying your own ships just to take out a few of them, rather than sending in grunts with guns to clear them out and save the buildings and maybe the people inside.

    Crusader: I thought it was the fact he had sex that mitigated the effect of the pineapples. Thank God, Kathy does apparently have good taste… it’s that or the Fire Bomber songs that did the trick. How much do you want to bet Bobby and Ozma got together at a Fire Bomber concert, and that’s why Bobby’s been worshipping Ozma ever since? As he noted to Elmo, Ranka’s very special to the person who he loves most, so…

    Still, that WAS cheeky, putting the pineapples in where they did. They even gave a shout-out to Hikaru’s head-bandage from when he got shot down in Episode 17 of the original Macross.

    I guess Kawamori didn’t like the fact that we were fully prepared for it, nor do I think he wants us to mock Roy’s death through pineapples. You’re right though that was rather cheeky of Kawamori to taunt us with two instances of pineapple pancake. Indeed the cake was a lie… Plus Ranka made it, me thinks. I suspect Ozma will be done in by Kiwi Salad. Also Cathy was looking especially hawt this episode, oh yes making sweet love, and how!

    I think that the sex made all the difference. Roy waited until AFTER the fight to go for it, and the pineapple, and then got done in.     Well, having Cathy in bed like that… I’d go for the gold too. And she probably saved his life by doing it, which is how he lived to returned the favor.

    You have to kind of feel sorry for Bobby though his fellow Bridge Mom is keeping Ozma all to herself while Bobby is all ronrey and junk. Wonder how big of a pineapple cake he was making…

    Crusader: Did you not listen to Mina Roshan repeating Bobby’s feelings on the matter in Episode 14? It doesn’t matter who Ozma’s with – Bobby still loves him, and that’s what’s important; not that the love’s returned, but that Ozma’s alive and that Bobby cares.

    I know, but it seems like its one of those lies people tell themselves…

    Besides at the time Ozma dumped every one to be a good nii-san to Ranka. Now they official got together in the most graphic way possible.

    Crusader: Love doesn’t have to be returned to exist. Love is often be a one-sided affair, and is no less valid for it. Love returned is nice, though…. although in anime, it also tends to be another Death Flag. Then again, so is unrequited love…

    I think, with this episode, we have an answer to ‘why aren’t PPBs on all fighters’? The answer is “because they’re powered by GAR” Diamond Leader had enough GAR to power a PPB punch – Ozma has enough GAR to stop ship-killer beams, and after confessing love on an open channel, still can power his PPB knife through a Vajra shell and lead others to do the same. I was half expecting a “who the hell do you think I am?” speech after Brwea asked him what he was up to during that fight.
