Hoshi: Thank you! And I've got 1.5 in queue now.

At first I didn't notice the give/take theme, but then I realized how self-referential the document signing in the beginning was and I was like "ohhhhhh". It's kind of like Sketchbook episode 01 that had a lot of brilliantly subtle metaphors.

You're on THAT now too?! Looking forward to more of your intricately-worded and elegant posts. :]

Gods, I almost never notice these things > the themes of "give and take". Now that you mention it, I can see how it works within Natsume Yuujinchou.

[...] [50] To clarify, when I say “real time” I mean that, in the case of composing, the time the composer writes does not flow in tandem with its actual playing (unless he is godlike). The composer may go back several bars and correct a note, whereas that would not happen in a performance; to an extent, the same can be said for literature. [↩] [...]

Cherubium: Thanks - I enjoyed writing this, the aspect of names is always an interesting one, and I'm sure there was still stuff to investigate in these twenty minutes.

blissmo: lols blissmo

Maipieisu: The symmetry of this episode was one of the things I liked the most.

Hmmm, what happens after? Well, I guess the more important question would be "why do they disappear in the first place?" This could get into the role of the name to the self (I'm sick of writing about that topic, however...). A lot of the spirits have a fervent desire to get their name back as if they were in horrendous pain while "nameless" - the name, in this anime, may be metaphorical for something larger, while it's just a simple and universally understood aspect - names, that is. I suspect that this anime will only briefly touch upon identity as opposed to a simple, monolithic concept of "name" as only a name - a future pathway to investigate Natsume's (or Tanuma's?) past, perhaps? Insofar as one is not complete without the name (refer back to Haibane Renmei), then the returning of the name thus completes the holistic spirit therefore restoring the actual "spirit" part of the thing - perhaps they are only visible because they are conflicted, inflicted, "diseased", conditioned through their partiality as nameless, or without their name: they're not technically a "full spirit" when visible by Natsume.

The notion of "owning" the name is another interesting thing, and thanks for the welcome, yeah, I enjoy the prospect of team blogging too.

It's pleasing to see that the sense of symmetry I thought I noticed is leaking out/revealing itself in other ways. I hadn't considered Susugi's dishwashing before. In retrospect, Susugi and Tsuyukami do kind of balance each other out -- for instance, one goes out in search of offerings, while the other waits patiently and does not even ask.

Something bugs me though. What exactly happens to the Ayakashi when their names are returned? I'm still struggling to understand why some of them fade into the ethers and others simply go about their merry way.

Oh, btw, welcome to THAT. I'm new to the blogosphere, so I'll probably have a lot learn from you. I've read some of your other stuff and I'm looking forward to blogging with you ^^.
