I feel that Shirley's death really symbolizes alot in this series. Its clear that Rolo did it, even if it was never shown. Personally, I loved Shirley. She had a huge yet subtle role in the series.

Shirley loved lelouch. She started in series one loving him. Loved him enough that when she found that Lelouch killed her father, she still would kill to protect him, as well, she tried to do...shooting Villetta before she could expose him.

It was later that Lelouch showed that his heart was not with Kallen/Karen (IDC what you fanboys of that pairing say, or with C2--same goes to you). He loved Shirley. He loved her so much, that he made her forget ever knowing him to save her the anguish of knowing every day that the man she loved was also the man she most hated. Afterwards was so sad when they talked, and she did not know him anymore.

Later, when she met him again you could say, her feelings, despite the Geass returned. She loved him again. And when Rolo shot her, Lelouch's reaction was more than proof that he loved her. Shirley represented all that was good left in Lelouch. His happiness, love, compassion, and kindness.

After the death of Shirley, Lelouch lost all those emotions, becoming suicidal and losing the will to live. He tried to kill himself, but Kallen stopped him, and afterwards in the show, he was much more rutheless and had no compassion. So upon the death of an angel, a deamon was born.

Anybody else notice the coffin discrepancy of 2017 in 13 and 2018 in 14? I theorize it was stock footage proving that lulu was going to off that beotch Shirley in season one for <strike>outing him the closet

i miss shirley now that she's gone.

i agree that killing shirley off was tantamount to lelouch losing his ties to his old life as lelouch lamperouge. as long as she was there, lelouch would forever be stranded between his two identities.

also, the loss of people important to him is a major part in his character development. what does he do from now on?

i personally want him, once he finds out it was actually rollo, to go into complete zero mode and crush rollo in the most cruel way possible - and that may need not be physical, no offense to rollo fans, but the angst was kinda gets to me at this point.

i think there's still more to orange-kun. i dont' think vv is stupid enough to send someone without checking his background for where his loyalties may possibly lie. there might be something in his cyborg-ness as a back up plan, in case orange-kun, as he has in this episode, turns traitor.

all in all, i am waiting eagerly for turn 14.

Well, if all I knew about Geass was what could be seen from this episode;

Suzaku Kururugi, first responder. Will put an end to the ghettos.

Lelouch vi Britania, mind-controller of first responders that they would be his canon-fodder. Will avenge himself on his father for letting his mother be assasinated and his sister blinded and crippled.

Shirly Fenette, terrorist wannabe. Will gun down first responders encountered that Lelouch vi Britania is allowed take actions until such a time as he finds his happiness, regains custody of his sister from Suzaku Kururugi/herself, the filthy eleven.

And nice going on systematically manipulating a psychologically unstable assassin into total crippling emotional dependancy on yourself and letting him play with the people that you say you're doing all this for, without slapping a NSFW advisory.

Not even going to mention the multi-sided civil war in China with factions composed of warlords. The good guys are the heroic foriegners pulling off an Anabasis and propping up the ones with the sheltered child-emperor, don't-cha-know.

(glyph of wall-banging until I give my self a damn scalp-wound)

Am I the only one yelling: BANZAI! @ Shirley's death? (:
Because to be honest, I never found Shirley to be a character that's well worth my time to analyze. I think the animators never really gave her a chance for growth besides having her yelling how much she loves Lulu. Ah but that's just my opinion. I'm probably biased because I favor C.C. a whole lot. Heh.

I dunno if this was already said, but the way I see it, Suzaku failed to protect Lelouch's beloved, indirectly killing her. Lelouch killed Euphy, perhaps this is some sort of retribution and at best, they will see it that way. At worst, this will fuel the fire.

I doubt Rolo killed Shirley, and the only person who could admit this to Lelouch (if he did kill Shirley) is Rolo himself. If and when he does, Lelouch's reaction will overpower his practical use of Rolo as a tool. But now that Orange is on their side, Rolo's presence and twisted loyalty might have outlived its usefulness. I want to say more but i'm getting a new bike. :D

"As messed up as it is, i feel rolo killing shirley is WAY to simple for the code geass series.

I Think there will be a huge plot behind this that will kill rolo, or someone else came there, and rolo tried protecting shirely, that would truely be a sunrise plot, and would give viewers a twitch in the eye."

As I watched the episode, there was something I found to be quite strange.
My question is "Where was Suzaku?" Wasn't he at the exact same place where
Rolo, Shirley, Lulu was. But he was strangely missing... (I was actually hoping
for Suzaku to save Lulu. But that didn't happen.) Moreover, they never showed
Rolo actually killing Shirley.

Suzaku had a reason to kill Shirley too. He might have wanted Lulu to experience
the loss of losing someone he loved.

If it is Suzaku, it will be a huge surprise though.

Oh yeah, now all the chicks that want Lulu will be secretly asassinated by C.C. and her minions(e.g. Rolo). Kallen switched sides, so she is no longer needed. Our little princess Kaguya allows Lulu to have fun with whoever he wants, so she's fine.

Next in line for being killed: Lulu's fangirls. I'm fed up with them.
