All of the Strike Witches are named after famous WWII aces.

That's right, they're lolified female versions of World War II aces.

Who wear no pants.

The hilarious photochops have already begun.

Half the Luftwaffe, USAAF, Regio Aeronautico, Armee de'Air, JAAF, Soviet Air Force, and RAF are spinning in their graves. Hell, even Finland is represented.

Holy crap.

I won't spend much more words here as i just spoke too much on Random Anime Blog.
I'd just say if you really see paedophilia in this anime you ought to pay a visit to the doctor. Really. There is much worse fanservice in anime out there.

This anime is no different from Sky Girls. As long as the fanservice won't overshadow the plot it could event turn out nice, just like Sky Girls did. Not an outstanding masterpiece, of course...

btw i am sorry my first comment here is so negative towards the local commenters

I did wonder myself about the no-skirt, no-pants, situation.... but if the series itself is anything like Sky Girls, I will be happy to watch.

"What doesn’t this show have? Oh right… PANTS! It seems that every freaking female character in this show doesn’t wear any darn pants"
maybe they passed a law in which all lolies must not wear pants... for national security reasons...
I bet Roy Mustang had something to do with it...

I disagree, Steven. There's a limit to how much camp can excuse, and Strike Witches crosses it with gusto.

At least in the OVA they did wear pants and skirts while out of combat. Don't know why Gonzo decided to nix them even during casual situations. And even then, just straight-up panties? I was expecting military-issue bloomers or something.

Agreed that the first three minutes really overdid it. Service seems more fun when it's accidental or you have to look for it, not when it's shoved in your face like that.

I think it's time for some anime fans to step back a bit, and consider their role in the production of this sort of material.

This is yet another show that spends most of its time showing small girls in various states of undress. These girls are clearly designed and represented as young as possible, albeit with huge knockers. A lolita complex is one thing -- and that's a problem in itself -- but low-rent cartoons bordering on paedeophilia is another.

Put it another way: would you be proud to tell anyone but an anime fan that you watched shows of young, pre-pubescent and pubescent girls with oversized tits and no pants? Would you honestly tell your parents? Would you honestly be truly comfortable describing to them what a "loli" is? Really?

Anime needs to grow up. There is almost no quality anime, beyond Miyazaki, that caters for ADULTS. Young adults, yes, teenagers, yes, boys and girls yes. But NOT for mature adults who seek quality writing and production standards. Mature adults who do not need to see small children half-undressed or put in lurid, sexualised situations.

I don't think the addition of underage sex or nudity, or violence, or language, makes anime "adult". It simply makes it juvenile, pandering to the hormonal needs of teens and young adults.

I continue watching for teh lulz.

But really, as long as this show doesn't go plot-heavy or serious on me, I'll probably keep watching. And I don't even like fanservice.

@Myssa Rei: That's interesting... and here I thought they just tricked all the girls into not wearing pants because they didn't know any better? @_@

@Extrange: If she sounds like that now, I wonder what she'd sound like in a few years.

@Halcyon: I haven't decided to blog this yet or not. I was waiting to watch the second episode to make my decision, but it seems like this show is getting a lot of negative attention (probably rightfully so). I dunno... I don't find the show to be that bad.

@Steven Den Beste: I was surprised myself to see such negative responses towards the show. It seemed like people kind of looked forward to the series and it wasn't that bad of a first episode for me (once you get past the whole no pants thing and all the shots of ass/crotch in the first ten minutes).

@LDC: Sure, that's probably the reason for most of the people watching this show.

@Impz: I think you mean Summer season. But yea, I was kind of wondering what was up with all the fanservice shows this season. I guess it IS summer and when it's hot, it's hot... I guess?

I give up on the spring (i mean summer) season if every single anime out there has fanservice aplenty. I am pretty averse to them and Strike Witches turned me off faster than popcorn getting a cold treatment. No thanks, I will stick to my mahou tsukai.
