My girlfriend recently tasked me to find a few ancient anime that is made in the late 1990s. For those who do not know, I only started viewing anime somewhat diligently when this blog is set up (2 years ago for your information). So, I need some old school anime viewers for help.

She is interested in finding any format (VHS/VCD/DVD) of Kaiketsu Zorro and Fortune Quest the TV series. Fortune Quest’s first five episodes are licensed by Media Blaster, but the remaining 21 episodes are not dubbed at all. If you have any clue on where to purchase them or have them in a format that is purchasable, please leave a comment. I have already tried a lot of major online anime sites and have found no traces of the series.

So, if you can help the poor Impz to please a mean and demanding girlfriend, please do. I will be eternally grateful for allowing me to pamper her a little.

Haha whoaaa I don’t even REMEMBER this series!! O_O; SO i cant help but I know how she feels as I’ve always wanted to see the japanese uncut version of Jikuu Tantei Genshikun (better known in America as Flint the Time Detective)

I don’t know how you feel about torrents, but http://www.boxtorrents.com has some really old anime dubbed and ready to go. Also, http://www.baka-updates.com/ is a site for subbers to “announce” there works. Usually it is new anime, but I have seen several old shows pop up for download. Just saw the 1978 Captain Harlock series finish up over there, kinda makes me want to watch it again.

Well, I usually assume that if you can’t get something because the publishers treat us like shit, it’s fine to do it the other way, which is described in the comment above :]

I doesn’t think that you can even find them in torrents… they are now well known and not very…

Buf late 90’s there are: Ranma, Tenchi Muyo, Sailor Moon, Irresponsible Captain Tylor, Slayers, Fushigi Yugi, You’Re Under Arrest!, Cowboy Bebop, Lain, BubbleGum Crisis, GTO… and you can more easily find them.

As you can see, I can’t even use: don’t, not…

Wow, I don’t remember either of these. I’m not sure you would be able to find them except for torrents…

@max
Well technically, stuff like Slayers, BGC, Ranma, Tenchi Muyo and Sailor Moon are more from the early/mid-nineties.

My 90s fave is Shoujo Kakumei Utena (1997), it was released in US so of course it got dubbed too. If you happen to find an online store that sells the DVD collection, please tell me too :P Amazon still got 2nd-hands but the price is devastating.
Try Slayers series too (1995), still easy to find the DVD in local retailers.
Also: Ranma 1/2 (1989), Saber Marionette (1996), Cardcaptor Sakura (1998)

omgz Impz, my brother and I have been searching for the Zorro anime too (Cinderella too) lol. So far what we managed to find, are Portuguese subbed/dubbed version of the series. drats TT___TT My brother’s willing to shell out cash for the DVD box set of these series, but sadly we haven’t found online shops which sell them either.

Play-asia.com has them, but at a high price. Are you willing to pay a premium for this old stuff?

!!!IMPZ!!! - I didn’t task you to find them! Stop making up stories about me. I’m neither mean nor demanding. I just mentioned that I’ve loved the anime shows ever since I was a child and that I can’t seem to find the series anywhere now. That’s all.

Anyway, I want to thank everyone for their input. Really appreciate it. And yes, I’ll pay whatever price for these anime shows even if I have to have Impz sell his body. :P

LMAO! 13S, you made me spit out my cereal, I was laughing so hard when I read that.

Impz you better start practicing your pole dancing skillz! ;)

I love Kaiketsu Zorro. They showed it on TV in my country. Unfortunately, even though I looked everywhere (online) for it… all I found were a couple of episodes dubbed in Portuguese (because in Portugal they only released the first 9 episodes on DVD, and charge €16 for each 3-episode DVD).
I also found some episodes… dubbed in German. I was tricked!
If you ever do find any ENGLISH episodes, let me know please!

@13Sugars: …and if I were to guess, it’s because you watched the shows on local TV (as well)? ;)

usagijen added these pithy words on Jun 26 08 at 7:01 pm

Wow, zorro… that sure brings back a lot of memories. :D

but old school anime, you say? how about capt tsubasa, superbook, astro boy or flying house?

:)

KaeBoo added these pithy words on Jun 27 08 at 9:39 am

Wahh, The Zorro thing - I WATCHED that. I’m so old. It aired on german TV, so there should be some german VHS or DVD floating around around ebay or amazon.de. It’s called ‘Z wie Zorro’ there.
