Those are the reasons why I enjoyed xxxHolic rather than Card Captor (which I wasn’t able to finish and now I have no more plan on finishing anymore)and Tsubasa Chronicles.

I never did manage to finish the first season of xxxHolic, but from what i do recall, it wasn’t half bad, considering that i started with bee train’s companion piece (debauched version) of Tsubasa… Still, i can’t help but wish they’ll do something about the colour and drawing style, which tends to do clamp’s lavish work little justice. On the other hand, kudos to the voice actors and pretty-well executed chemistry between the cast. Personally, I don’t think i will ever be tired of Watanuki’s over-the-top reactions…

I love the Cardcaptor Sakura anime (NOT Cardcaptors… the ACTUAL Cardcaptor Sakura). Their deviation from the manga actually made a better story.

As for HOLiC… I can honestly say that I watch TC first. Of course, before reading the manga for both stories. I’d have to say, I enjoyed xxx-HOLiC a lot better than TC in both anime and manga. I often would rant about the lack of connections between the two series in the two seasons (especially on HOLiC’s part) but it is mainly because a lot of the things that happened are downplayed so much that they end up disappointing. Escpecially considering the manga is a very very good in terms of the insights, etc.

I can’t compare the first and second season in a fair court. I love love love the first season but this is without knowing any background on the manga or story. But when the second season came around, I was already playing the role of a staunch fan of the manga.

By the way, has anyone seen the latest episode of Kei? Between the way Kei handled the ‘Kohane’ side-story, and the fact that the Tsubasa and xxxHolic manga have been on hiatus, I suspect CLAMP is busy preparing for some grandiose, orchestrated conclusion…

I have to admit, the anime series of xxxHolic isn’t even close to the manga in terms of supreme quality. Still, it’s an anime worth watching – conclusion: read the manga after seeing the anime, you won’t be disappointed.,

Cardcaptor Sakura was awesome. It was when the American company took it and turned it into ‘Cardcaptors’ that it became a steaming pile of…unpleasant stuff.

I think the worst transition of CLAMP’s works from manga to anime (apart from what the West did to Cardcaptor Sakura) has to be the second series of Tsubasa. I’m so glad xxxHolic was actually handled well.

I must say I was rather pleasantly surprised (and satisfied) after finishing xxxHOLiC’s first season not so long ago. Fukuyama as Watanuki and Nakai as Doumeki was quite entertaining. Not to mention that the anime version skipped mostly all of the Tsubasa references, which I personally found relieving.

I actually think the anime is far superior to the manga. For me the worst parts of xxxholic are when it’s becoming too entwined with tsubasa and taking proceedings away from the supernatural of ‘our’ world. It’s not that tsubasa is a bad manga it’s just that it has a different tone to xxxholic (more ’shounen-ey’).

That’s a good review of xxxHolic Season one without actually giving any of the plot away! I have to admit I’m a semi-die hard CLAMP fan (no really I read over 200 chapter of xxxHolic and Tsubasa combined in two weeks, it’s my style I binge a lot)

I’m curious to know what fate will befall Watanuki in Kei, since his past is tied to Tsubasa. What do you think?

Also for anyone who likes the Tsubasa anime, I implore you to read the manga, so much more worth while!
