At least we have Orange-kun…er I mean Orange Range. And by Orange Range I mean the single release of R2’s OP, titled “O2.” As those of you that read my previous post all the way to the bottom would know, there is no Code Geass episode to be released this week. In its stead, I’m going to pretend I know what I’m talking about and review the single and PV. At the end I also posted some shots and comments on the episode previews for episode nine and ten from the end of the Matsuri special that aired instead of Geass this week.

“O2″
I think I like this song because it’s so very different from their songs I’ve heard before. It focuses a lot more on the high range vocals, more so then in their more famous songs. I really enjoyed the different style, groups that find a way to create distinctive sounds despite being around for awhile tend to be my favorites. Anytime I look at the worth of a full-length anime single, the first thing I examine is whether or not it feels like a real song or is instead 90 seconds of OP and some crap added on. Fortunately “O2″ does feel like a full length song, and if you were listening to it without a timer for the first time you wouldn’t notice a random cutoff. It really feels like a complete song, and something that is separable from the show itself.

When you look at it from the standpoint of being “Code Geass-y” it falls a bit short of previous OPs in the series, especially “COLORS.” It’s a fine standalone, but it doesn’t have the same harder rock beat that one normally associates with Geass. Maybe it’s that I have unreasonably high standards due to “COLORS,” who knows. However, one thing it does have going for it is the “I continue to fight” chant, because every time I listen to that in my car I see Orange-kun walking on the beach looking pimp.

PV

The PV came out a couple of weeks ago, and was my first experience with the full version of the song, but it wasn’t high enough quality to really appreciate the song. Plus it had all the added sound effects, which were good for the PV but not for listening to on my iPod. However, the PV on it’s own was pretty entertaining, some sort of old Edo samurai bash. The most amusing parts to me were probably the flashy outfits the band members were wearing as well as the various characters mouthing “I continue to fight!” along with the song.

Episode 9 Preview

So the loli empress is supposed to get hitched in order to promote peace. I’d guess she’s slated to marry some Brittanian like that bastard Schniezel. How dare he attempt to lay his hands upon that innocent loli! In amongst that Li is torn between the prospect for peace and protecting her.

Episode 10 Preview

This episode appears to be a combat episode, with some Suzaku vs. Kallen action to start. Suzaku mentioning that they “can’t have His Highness” gives some evidence to what I said above, that loli Empress is slated to marry a Brittanian prince. Also, Li gets his hands on the Knightmare we saw in the OV and goes up against Zero. The Black Knights look to be in some deep shit if it’s Brittania and China against them.
