The Fight between the best of the best! And I would like to thank Impz for the picture.
In case you find things rather boring lately, I’ve been thinking for a while to do this. Originally the vote of President in Cross Academy, now it’s the Fight of the Fans: Zero VS Kaname! (Now that Democracy Rules!)
If you like Zero, please vote for him. And if you like Kaname better, vote for him too. The poll will start now and will stop after 31 May 2008. Results will be mentioned in mid-June (Due to some reasons and I’m going off for a vacation.) But for Impz and I we prefer Zero but it’s up to you to decide. Their fate in in YOUR hands!

So far, based on what I’ve read up to(Chap 40). It appears its more YuKe than ZeKi. But I’ve always prefered Zero anyway; perhaps it was the sexy tattoo that got me.
Kaname is an awesome character as well. It’s evident from the start that he’s very wise and well respected. Despite his high status, he doesn’t abuse his authority and always tried to maintain a level head. An example of that was when he found out that Yuki let Zero drink her blood; it’s obvious that he was pissed of and jelouse and could have probably killed zero for that but yet he didnt for Yuki’s sake. That showed a lot of control. I can’t wait for the author to show us a little mor of Kaname’s dark side though!
As for Zero, I love his character. Yes he is quite EMO at first but I believe this EMO stage will help him strengthen his character even more as the series progresses. I mean the manga at this point stated that he’s probably the strongest vampire hunter that existed; and not to mention that he’s also a vampire! SO this guys got a LOT of potential. I think the series is just getting more interesting now!
Sorry for the long ass post.
Kaname all the way!
I took an instant dislike to Zero the moment I started on VK(sorry, zero fans)
Dont ask me why.He just has something about him that makes me not like him, and he’s always all so “high and mighty” and no way shall he snatch Yuki away from kaname after he’s saved her from that vampire when she was a kid and protected her for so long.NYA!
Again, sorry Zero fans.I deeply apologise.
*Bows*
Sorry for my rather long comment.I think it’s rather long.Or is it?Lawls. XD
And oh, I forgot to mention. I’m a fangirl. A raging one at that:))
For all u ppl who say Kaname, i understand where yur cumin from. i mean, i love the manipulation n stuff too. but at the way they treat Yuuki, Zero iz mor sweet n kind of like “ill let u do wat u want az long az u dont get killed”. Kaname iz mor like “do thingz my way n if u dont ill force u cuz im stronger so HAHA!!!”
Kaname iz the way awsome type of guy but Zero iz a whole lot betta in mi book.
PLUS: watz wit the whole Zero iz emo thing. HEZ NOT!!!! itz not like he hates his life or himself he jus doesn’t like dat hez a vampire.
If I had to choose between Kaname and Zero I’d coose Zero. Zero truly cares for Yuki and would do anything for her, he’d die for her even. But Kaname, sure he would also be there for Yuki, but he’s got more secrets than Zero. I mean for a relationship to work your lover would know a lot of things about you. I know this might sound confusing, but I get it. I mean, Yuki knows Kaname, but deep down does she really know what he’s like.
Ok, I’ll quit talking now, but one more thing. The one thing I find odd about Yuki and Kaname’s love is that they’re brother and sister. And yet they want to stay lovers. Ewww!!!!!!!
kinda late.. haha! but ZERO!!!!
I get the whole manipulative, hot, smart, intelligent guy thingi (Kaname).. But what i think some people discount is that Zero is all that too.. Unlike Kaname who is assured in his position as a pure blooded, Zero struggles with the fact that he IS what he hates the most and has to find his place, his present and his future.
I’m sure both men love Yuuki in their own way. Kaname in his go-getting, all consuming protective-ness which i’m sure if it were directed at me, i’d swoon.. However, Zero is a multifaceted guy, pure in his motives but deep and complex in his instincts. When it comes to protecting or hurting Yuuki, I’m sure everyone knows what he’ll do. But when it comes to reconciling that fact that the girl he loves is somewhat innately changed, he just could not draw a bridge.
People who think zero’s pathetic & weak, apparently you haven’t been reading carefully. Both Kaname and Zero are freakin’ strong! Kaname’s in actuality ancient pure blooded, and Zero, a Vampire VAMPIRE hunter (hah), that has in him blood of THREE pure blooded vamps- Yuuki, Kaname & Shizuka. Zero’d probably be the strongest hunter ever seen..
His character might have taken a back seat so far, but i’m sure he’s going to emerge soon..
Kaname fans: i know you’re upset that Zero fans keep dissing Kaname and keep callinghim evil.. But i do like the slightly evil streak in kaname.. Hah glutton for punishment.. that i am
Zero fans: i’m sure you’re pissed at having to read all bout Kaname the almighty and Yuuki his goddess
(OH! plus most of the cover art are Kaname x Yuuki! Common! little Zero lovin pls!)
BUT theseries isn’t over yet.. Keep an open mind yea?
BUT I’m still a Zero fan.. Zero x Yuuki! Let’s all fight for Kaname! En Guard!
(Sorry.. a little long.. YES.. i’m voting Zero.. haha!)
One of the main reasons why I’m interested in Vampire Knight is because I thought it wouldn’t be like most other shoujo mangas. but Zero’s character is SO COMPLETELY OVERDONE in shoujo! everything about Zero is so cliche. It’s usually the rude, reckless guy that gets the girl. and because he shows a bit of affection towards the girl, it highly contrasts his character so the affection affects mindless fangirls much more. He has no respect for authority. He doesn’t think before he acts. How many times has he pointed his gun at someone without thinking?? he even pointed his gun towards Yuuki! and he doesn’t show the least bit of appreciation for Chairman Cross who provides him food, shelter, and treats him like his own son.
he fits the following cliche phrases: “I will kill her then kill myself.” “the animal I have become” “I am who I hate the most.”
ugh.
I mean, no wonder all these American emo/scene kiddies are so into Zero. (the Japanese seem to like Kaname more) and they just happen to be very noisy (dominating most of the polls and forums with cries of “ZoMg Zero is, like, HOTT!!!” without proper analysis) and EXTREMELY RUDE to kaname fans.
I also notice that a lot of them don’t seem to know the manga quite well yet make such passionate accusations. It’s painful to watch.
sorry if I offended anyone. I usually don’t talk this way, but I’m tired of how people badmouth just Kaname and conveniently forget about these aspects of Zero’s character.
of course Zero has crummy aspectz!!! i hate alot about him(n love alot!^^), but dis convo started ova who should get yuuki, n in the long run sum of us do think hez a betta choice. itz not cuz were american emo/scene kiddies, itz cuz we look at the good pointz of him.
also, badmouthing kaname iz a stupid thing in mi eyez. hez a great character, n i like him. but i didn’t choose him cuz sumwhere along the linez i felt hiz affection turn frum love to obbsession.
i really can’t make up my mind!
i read the manga and loved kaname but zero looks kinda hot in the anime:)hehe.
but i guess im gunning for KANAME! go get her!
When I first read the manga, I was totally for Kaname. As the manga progressed, I began to like Zero a lot more and Kaname a lot less. He’s such an abusive, manipulative, controlling boyfriend. Plus, Zero is hotter, and I’m not trying to be fan girl like, it’s just Kaname’s girl hair just doesn’t work for me.
In the anime, I immediatly loved Zero. I don’t know way, but you just like him a lot more in there.
In the end, Zero’s my man.
i really love vamire knight…
especially zero…
i reall like attitude and he is simple…
i hope yuuki realize that the only man for her is zero..
though kaname and zero are both very beautiful characters, i’d have to say that yuki ends up with kaname.
why?
it’s not that i have a problem with zero. at this point of the manga (if you are up to the latest chapter 47 like i am right now) i would know that the history and past of zero has become even more complicated.
yet, so has kaname’s. the difference between the two now is not in their backrounds, for both have quite the depressive and complicated pasts, but in there actual characteristics.
zero is more straight forward. though he doesn’t say it straight out, he most likely loves yuki. yet i find the character of zero extremely fickle. he’s always changing his mind and though complicated things happen to him, he himself is not a very complicated character. he’s more straight forward and headstrong.
i think the reason why zero has so much popularity is because he is the character girls know more since the beginning. he’s the more aggressive type to girls.
kaname on the other hand is different. he’s the more defined character. although many believe he’s perfect, he’s far from it. he only handles himself better than zero. the reason why people probably dislike kaname more than zero is because he often seems emotionless, aloof, and indifferent.
yet recent chapters have shown that kaname’s only like that because of his goal. kaname’s past is very twisted (not saying zero’s isnt) and his life has been devoted to making sure yuuki will be safe.
i dont want to put spoilers (though i probably hinted a few things already) but i think kaname is a much better choice than zero. kaname definitely loves yuuki and his almost cold character is due to the heavy ties as to what he is.
in short, i think both zero and kaname need yuuki. zero needs her as someone to trust, to help release his burdens on. kaname needs yuuki just for the sake of needing her, just because he loves her.
and in the end, yuuki almost returns brother like feelings to zero but needs kaname for the same reason he needs her. kaname and yuuki both love each other since forever and it would be a shame to see that long time devotion lost.
i like zero… he is smart and cool look.i hate all about kaname
i like zero… he is smart and cool look.
i wish that yuuki end-up with kaname..
^_^zero and yuuki forever
i LOVE KANAME…HATE ZERO…i,M A KANAME FAN ALL THE ALWAY
kANAME IS MORE LIKESBLE THAN ZERO…I LOVE KANAME WHEN I FIRST SAW HIM…ZERO HE GET ON MY NERVE WHEN I SAW HIM…AND I LOVE COLD GUY WHO WILL MAKE YOU CRY…KANAME IS NOT EVIL…BUT KANAME CAN BE COLD TO YOU…THE SAME GOES FOR ZERO…KANAME IS MUCH MORE HOTTER TO
okay,i like zeki so much, and WHY YOU BASH ZERO THAT MUCH?
kaname for me. kaname is way more cooler
I think Zero is the most interesting character. He is not that mysterious because Hino Matsuri shown all his past to us.Kaname is a suspicious character. He is mysterious doesn’t mean he’s more interesting although I do think Zero also has his mystery why the Kiryuu Twins were cursed.Right? And he is now the only vampire hunter being vampire itself very exciting!!!.Unlike Kaname had been born as a Pure blood and future king of vampire society. So what about this make every girl scream out like that.I find him a total jerk running away from his responsibilities and threw his sin on Yuuki’s shoulders with “For Your Sake”.WTF?Imagine your boyfriend killed a man for money to buy diamond for you and then said it all for your sake.I wonder if you gonna like him more or freak out of that bf?That all I saw in Kaname this is called manipulative person than “mysterious”.Zero has his kindness even if Yuuki doesn’t end up with him doesn’t mean she has no love for Zero.In fact I believe Yuuki loves Zero the most not Kaname.I don’t care. But as if Zero get his own happiness,I’m fine with the idea Yuuki goes away with Kaname. But I really hate the type of guy like Kaname. If you say Kaname is acting seriously than maybe you guys made a big mistake.Kaname acting like a child need someone around to love him and this manipulative man also want to kill himself if his fiancee leaves him.Sorry but I find the way Zero acted in whole story more manly and very very “adult”.He doesn’t want ppl who he loves care much for him and I find it “true man” in my life experience. That’s all I want to say.By the way,I’m over 20 but I like Zero not of his appearance,I like his Personality.I don’t care about the poll but I believe there are more ppl like type guy like Zero than Kaname if you look into real life.Zero reflects a good man as well.
Well Kaname is a more sofiaticated character but lets face it when Zero DID’NT kiss Yuuki i felt like Crying-for gods sake i told EVERYONE on my contact list and they dont evan know what i’m on about! Zero and Yuuki are just way to good together and Kaname seems so—-Calculating.
Is the voting closed? well even so I just want to add my opinion anyway. I loved Zero from the very beginning. I know it’s ‘just’ manga and he’s a fictional character, but the emotions I feel when reading of Zero’s continual suffering and heartbreak, they are definitely real. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so much compassion for a fictional character as I do for Zero. I don’t understand how someone CAN’T empathise/sympathise with him, or can think of him as weak. I hope these won’t be spoilers, I doubt anyone who isn’t up to date with this manga would bother visiting this page, so…Consider this: Zero’s parents slaughtered, betrayed by his twin – HIS TWIN! – becomes a vampire, the thing he hates the most…a beast, at the mercy of bloodthirsty urges he despises, but which threaten to overwhelm him, the only future he has is as a Level E…he also has to deal with the jealousy caused by the girl he loves showing her infatuation with the vampire who looks down on him, a vampire who openly admits to using Zero for his own ends and treats him as scum. Of course Zero would feel he wants to end it all! (Ask yourself how YOU would cope if all this and worse happened to YOU.) Yet he continues to live and that’s what makes him so strong and is one of the reasons why I admire him so much. He’s a fighter, how can I not love and support him?
I know Kaname fans often counter with statements such as “well Zero had all this time to declare his love for Yuki, why didn’t he take his chance when he had it?” etc but the point is that for those four years Zero has been hiding his pain from everyone around him, suffering in silence, tormented by the fear that he’ll eventually succumb to Level E. The poor guy feels he has no right to confess to Yuki. In Chapter 24, Zero’s thoughts: “I want these gentle hands…and this kind smile…even though I should not want such a thing.” Then in Chapter 44: “Those arms, which I have no right to seek are preventing me from leaving.” That kind of stuff makes me cry for him, I find it really heartbreaking. There’s just something about the star-crossed lovers thing that makes me want the underdog to overcome all the odds to get the girl
Someone mentioned Zero’s attitude to Chairman Cross, who fed, clothed, sheltered him etc. Yes, Zero is belligerent and shows no respect for authority most of the time, but if you read a bit deeper you will see he DOES have a great deal of affection for Cross, and those two get along extremely well (would make a great future father-and-son-in-law-relationship I think!). Also there is one point (the Shizuka/Maria arc) where Zero asks Cross if he knows more than he’s letting on. So yeah if you don’t trust someone’s motives you’re hardly going to be all loveydovey with that person, are you? Rather, you would keep your distance and try to observe that person’s behaviour.
I love rebellious characters, and Zero is one of the few who doesn’t suck up to Kaname (Yori is the only other I can think of right now). Don’t forget the many injustices done to Zero; I can think of a lot which were done by Kaname. The one I feel most indignant about is Kaname letting Zero take the fall for Shizuka’s (–spoiler-free–) even though Kaname was the perpetrator. I was disgusted at how dishonorably Kaname behaved, not saying Zero is innocent, that was so low! I don’t want to badmouth Kaname’s character (because both guys have devoted fans), but I feel I can’t like or respect him because of the way he treats Zero, simply the unfairness of it all. I find his manipulative streak quite creepy and untrustworthy. I am all for social equality and find Kaname’s superior “I’m a high and mighty pureblood” attitude really off-putting.
Also I don’t get why many people seem to think Zero is emo…they really need to understand what the term actually means before labelling him as such. Zero never, ever, shows his innermost feelings to the world at large. We, the readers only know he is suffering because the author makes us privy to his background, his past, his inner thoughts. That in no way makes him emo! He never mopes around or walks around with a “woe is me” attitude. On the contrary, he has this scary aura which keeps most people away, yet he has a great deal of tenderness and protectiveness for people, even strangers (Chapter 50 was kyaaa-worthy for sure), which he keeps hidden; therefore if Zero must be labelled, then he’s tsundere. Do you think any of Zero’s classmates have any idea that his life is full of one tragedy after another? If he was all emo then they would, for sure. But he’s not! He’s the classic tsundere guy; bad-tempered, hotheaded, but loving, with genuine emotion for those he ‘lets in’ to see the ‘real Zero.’. He doesn’t wear his heart on his sleeve, sure, but that’s another part of his appeal.
And I can’t go away without mentioning his looks *V* Since this is Zero vs Kaname I’ll state that I don’t find Kaname’s looks too appealing, mostly because of his longish hair, which seems to verge on the mullet side sometimes, then that lovesick look in his eyes makes me cringe.
Well OK, on to Zero now! The mangaka really knows how to make a girl swoon. I love his silver hair…his tattoo…his piercings…the way he wears his uniform like he doesn’t give a damn…the way he holds his gun is so cool and badass! and his violet eyes…those beautiful, expressive eyes, that show Zero’s pain and heartfelt emotions, ahhhh!! I can’t take it anymore! I just want to hug him and take all his pain away! I want so much for him to survive, overcome all his troubles, experience peace and have some happiness in his life at last…if he doesn’t then all his sufferings become meaningless and I will feel incredibly let-down and depressed, and most likely unable to read anything by Hino again.
Oh! One other thing re: Zero/Kaname’s popularity in Asia/Euro/US. Ethnically I’m Asian, born and raised in the UK…I don’t know if any of that has any bearing on why I feel the way I do or not *shrugs* and even if Kaname is super popular in Japan/rest of Asia, I’ll always remain a fervent Zero fan XD.
Well, sorry this was so long but I had to express my love for Zero…my hero
