Macross Frontier 02: Let the Alto-hime war begin!
Well its almost yuri/pure/NBR sis-con what say ye King of Sis-con, eater of Raigomaru, luster of lolis?
Well that was a sweet urban mecha fight if I say so my self. That VF-25 gets sweeter and sweeter every time. I want one. At any rate it seems that the Vajra have much to complain about Ranka’s singing as it makes them angry every time she sings, or at least that is what it looks like. Ranka and Ozma are also ¼ Zentradi, and I assume that Alto is at least half Metltrandi if not more given how Alto-hime looks so pretty that he gets compliments from women. In fact he has already broken Mikhail and Luca, the rest of Skull squadron is about to get broken…

So it was nice pretty to see all those missiles in the air and VF-25 combat in urban terrain, Alto got called Onii-chan too. I expect Stripey to be swooping in soon enough at a loli who calls random people onii-chan. It’s also good to see that some one was having fun with the eye catch. In any case poor Alto threw up more than some sea sick land lubber on the high seas. Though Kabitzin was right Giliam did get juiced into a soylent green smoothie. Not sure what was the point of going into detail about the affair but I guess Skull Squadron is just morbid like that.
I just wish they added the same sequence in the first episode…they owe us a nyan nyan song.

I wonder if the Varja are really out to kill Ranka because given that they can sink capital ships with single shot they could have simply blasted the colony ship to bits as a means to more easily kill her. Maybe they just want to capture for some strange reason that we are not yet privy to. Maybe Ranka is the child of their queen. In any case they appear to be entirely biological with no pilot yet found. On their second incursion the made a B-line for Ranka but didn’t open fire when they had the chance, again killing Ranka does not seem to be their goal. As for Ozma’s rejection of Alto as pilot I have to agree Alto was unproven and it would have been a great risk to place him in a new VF-25 assuming there were any in fighting condition.
Have no fear there’s nothing here.

What can’t take a complement?
Now that Cathy Glass has a sample from both Ranka and Alto perhaps she will be the one to give us all the secrets that they have been keeping. Given that she is also Sheryl’s handler Cathy must know a lot. Speaking of Sheryl it seems that she has some sort of attachment to her earrings such that she actively sought out Alto, though in time she will be broken as well. At least she is capable of praising her fans and doing nice things for them instead of being haughty and proud all of the time. Well next time she will have to rely on that kid Alto to get her out her next pickle perhaps then we shall see dere dere Sheryl…

As for Alto he’s been dolled up since age ten and looked kind of girly then too. No doubt Mikhail was quite taken with one of those performances…Hopefully Alto will find a piloting gig soon. That or he cant go back to theater again and break more people.

I watched this RAW and yay for understanding most of it
This is getting more and more intresting as the eps start. The enemy reacts strongly to Ranka´s voice, in regard to what they want with her, probably use her song to fuel their life energy.
As to why I say that they have used a lot of old Macross stuff so why not take this from Macross 7 instead of it´s songs. Did you notice when they were driving to the Skull Base? Totsugeki Love Heart from Macross 7 playing on the radio with the same voice artist even if my ears didn´t trick me.
Next ep, one guy, two girls, no plane and one big freaking enemy. Wonder what´ll happen…
The combat scenes were absolutely awesome.Much better than in the first ep.If only the green loli didn’t make me melt.
One thing that amused me was the discussion between Ranka and Sheryl.Her ego must be quite large.

The fight scenes were epic in this episode. I absolutely love how many homages their throwing out to the original Macross too. The scene where Alto catches Ranka (epically animated), the colors of the VF’s, and the song that was playing in Ozma’s car was from Macross 7 (not actually the seventh series in the franchise. It’s actually just called Macross 7).
Am I the only one that wants a Ranka/Sheryl doujin after watching this episode?

I didn’t notice the thing about Sheryl’s earrings, but that is quite interesting. I can’t wait to see her flashback, and also Ranka’s regarding the ship that the Vajra attacked.
I also concede the point about Alto needing some training, but Ozma could have just said, “You need training first”… as opposed to punching Alto in the face. I guess sometimes men need to communicate through their fists (and missiles).
You know, Stripey would’ve loved being in Alto’s shoes during that scene in Macross F. It does sound/look a bit like a siscon’s dream come true, doesn’t it? As for the earrings… I wonder what’s so special about them? A friend pointed out that it’d been among the belongings attributed to Graham, but beyond that… well, I wonder how Sheryl’ll react after she finds out he lost it?
Kabitzin: I think he’s reacting (Ozma, that is) to the idea that Alto may have indirectly engineered Graham’s death in order to get to Grand Theft Auto that VF-25, which is still an experimental machine.

And I think Ozma was just pissed off that Gilliam’s dead, and Alto may have gotten his ass killed off, to judge by how the hime was reacting when people were asking how Gilliam died.

I say its better than a standard triangle.
I suspect that Sheryl was looking for Alto to recover her earring because in the clip sh played it landed on Alto and that same shot was absent in the first ep. Therefore it is plausible that Sheryl wants her earring back because it is some how special to her rather than it being a simple matter of wanting to ravish Alto-hime.
