@Kaioshin

Mai Hime is kind of different than Otome... where the former was basically one giant spiral of doom from episode 7 or 8 onwards, and was a great ride most of the way with multiple climaxes, I was never quite sure WHAT Otome was supposed to be.

I've just never been able to get into any of the Mai series. It's like everytime I try to watch one their is this impenetrable wall of the way the series is presented to me (especially in the audio area) that throws me right back off of it again. And combine that with the fact that since when I watch something I like to see all the parts of it, such an ever-expanding franchise just never seemed worth the time investment for me. Gundam on the other hand.....

It's weird how Otome is getting better with spinoffs. I agree Sifr's first ep was great. I wish Otome was more like that to begin with.

No idea, I'm sure if I could read Japanese well I could tell you~

@Myssa Rei

I'm going to edit my comment, I meant to say check Zwei out <again>, as I've already seen it. And yeah it is kind of silly sometimes, but like you pointed out the plot is hardly one of the reasons most people (including me) watch this.

Prepare for many scenes of 'unintentional humor' in Zwei (as Jason calls it), however. Then again, it's not one of those things you watch for plot...

@cclragnarok

Hmmm I didn't see the preview at the end of Zwei so I wouldn't have caught that, thanks for mentioning that. If I had seen it I probably would not have been quite as surprised, maybe I should go find my DVD with the 4th episode and take a look at that fight scene.

@Myssa

Yet another reason to check Zwei out again I guess! She was quite the uh, underachiever in that area in the original series. They wouldn't have really fit her character though at that time.

I'd like to point point out that Arika eventually DOES get her mom's, erm, flotation devices, in Mai Otome Zwei. Not of the same scale certainly, but still, compared to the pettan she had during the Mai Otome series, it's a major "upgrade" (I recall Jason Miao commenting in disbelief about Arika finally getting ze bounce).

"As for Rena’s fighting ability, she pretty much destroys everyone, and I was a bit surprised. I do recall from the original series that she was a powerful Otome, but I didn’t think she just blew away everyone, she was even above the level of one of the Five Columns (when Elliot tried to attack Miyu she was tossed around easily, while Rena had the advantage over Miyu)."

Well, according to the preview at the end of Zwei, Rena is "the most powerful otome ever." The preview also shows Rena taking on the 5 columns at the same time.
