Reading this just makes me hungry for some cake :( I agree with you on a lot of these shows, though I think Spice and Wolf started off alright, but ended up a lot better, I'm really enjoying all the new episodes.

I like Giant Robots and loli girls. I guess if Slightly Bald Wizard is right that makes me the ultimate loser. Oh well.

Also, now I want really really want apple pie (even after eating my share of it while I was in Montreal this weekend). Why'd you have to go and post a picture of it? And with a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream no less.

Well Hayate had a bunch of fillers in the middle there after the beginning run, and now they've gone and animated some really early manga stuff now but setting it in time much later. They are opting more in their adaptation to stay away from the plot elements and focus more on strictly comedy episodes and arcs.

And yes the lack of ZSZ subs puts us all in despair. Some anon on 4chan claimed that the guy from a.f.k. was wanted to do Clannad instead and this was causing drama, but then again that's 4chan info and is not exactly reliable.

@LockOffStratus

Fruitcake is the bane of desserts my friend. And only the mentally disturbed would find Shana II to be better than Shana I!

LOL @ the fruitcake. I think the roundup hits the spot myself. I agree, Gundam, Clannad, and Hayate are tops as of right now. Haven't watched Shana--though I've heard the second ("Sekkondo") season beats the first.

Clannad and Bamboo Blade are going strong and pretty much consistent with the progress. I love the LOL humor and the friendship/family theme. I still watch and find Hayate hilarious, though I don't enjoy it as much as I used to. =)

ZSZS is as funny as ever, although I find the 1st season more enjoyable. I'm stuck at ep 3 for the lack of subs. Like you, I was a bit apprehensive with Okawari at first, but when I saw it, I found that it was still reminiscent of the 1st one. Despite the minor differences in art and style, the fun was still there. I'm glad they picked it up from where Minami-Ke left off. I'm still not so used to Fujioka's blonde hair. Haha. Mako-chan and Hosaka, FTW! :D

Mmmm yeah H20 just kinda seems generic to me. And yes the Clannad VN is better but that's because they have so much more time to work with. The anime is supposed to fit all five girls into 24 episodes, a tall task. I think they've done admirably so far, and the real test will be how they fit in the After Story.

Well if I had written this before episode 18 maybe I would have said something not as positive as there was once again lost of angst and exposition with no action. I think I was saved because I just skipped all of those fillers, and so my opinion of the show isn't as marred by them. If I had forced myself to sit through them maybe I'd feel different.

@TP

Well Hayate is one of the best, I agree, I just enjoy Clannad a bit more. I think it's the best comedy on air right now =)

I admit that I am a relatively new anime fan compared to some other bloggers out there, and I have found that a lot of older shows just don't interest me. Maybe it's the lower quality animation (less technology back in the day), or it's the topic areas, I'm not sure. It could just be that people that grow up with something feel nostalgic about it and have a higher opinion of things and want to reference them. Who knows.

I have to agree with both Shippoyasha (why are you so interested in a long-ish anime series, where the antagonist doesn't die? — troll alert!) and Calawain: Hayate is still a better show than the listed shows.

I make a policy of only watching non moe-centric shows like Clannad so that I don't be tempted to buy figurines. (There I laid my hatchet.) So instead of commenting on such series, I'll talk about the shows you mentioned.

ZSZS still entertains me, though the suicidal theme is showing its cracks. The class makes up for it with sheer dumb/funny antics, as well as, you have said, a jig on what's happen in Japan.

I feel that most new shows are either referenced from an earlier show, or paid homage to shows that "are 伝説" in the fanbase. Time to watch old shows, perhaps?

I mostly agree except H2O really is for those that are compatible with such series to begin with since it seems to veer more towards the middling eroge adaptation league. To me, Clannad was a let down compared to the actual novel which I finished a while ago, though it's still very well made for the most part.

I totally disagree with Shakugan no Shana 2 though. 10+ episodes of filler was overkill and totally killed the momentum of the series IMO.

I'm glad to see some people appreciate Hayate still. It's one of the better ongoing shows, I'd agree.

Dessert tastes are often as particular as anime tastes =)

I'll edit myself, why am I feeding the trolls? Sigh.

Too much sweets rot the teeth. But in this case; your brain.

"Gundam 00" was a nice attempt by FMA guy to add reality to a "giant robot" show. The only way it should return to OWN-orz-ing status if when Nene gets killed for destroying the "happy couple" of Saji and Louisse.

"So Long, Mr. Despair II" needs to lay off on the suicide theme and the ugly-guy censor. Then it will OWN more orz.

"H2O" is just fine. The people who complain about the animation are all eye-heroin addicts.

"Clannad" is pure garbage. Tomoyo is Claymore's Claire without the restraint. We get it now. And IMMHO; anyone who'd forgo the fact that some poor guy's a punching bag, in order to see cute girls from KyotoAnime, are definitely losers.

"Combat Guyb###h Hayate?" We already have the Simpsons. The last thing we need is that show in moe version.
