Can’t touch this

A bit late again, but I’m trying my best. The FIOS guy is supposed to come at the end of this week so theoretically by then I’ll have good internets and the like. Anyways, this episode was the weakest of the five aired so far, it spent a lot of time on plot and Benisu’s past. Well, as long as we don’t have a Chiharu episode or something I’m probably ok with getting this one out of the way early. I’m still on a massive high from the first 4 episodes of this show.

The seedy-looking casino owner still has Nanase and Benisu in his clutches and instructs them to wear the above pictured clothing to continue and work off Benisu’s debt. While they are imagining the horror of having to wear them the whole Kuonji family and attendants come and find them. Shinra challenges the loan sharks to a bet, if she wins the debts are released but if she loses then the Kuonji girls will work for them too. Once again we find that there is no lengths to which this show is not willing to go for fanservice. That’s pretty much the smallest outfit possible on broadcast television, thumbs up gentlemen.

This is the most epic scene so far in this show, and it is by far the highlight of this episode. The Colonel tells Ren that he will show him an elegant way to solve things, and he takes the bet for the game. When the ball looks like it’s going to land on a losing number he engages his super-powered hair and blows it into the winning slot. And then comes the shot I used for the shot at the top of the entry, the epic mustache tug. The man is gloriously GAR in so many ways, because not only can he forehead poke people across the room with ease, but he can make awesome tea and move roulette balls with his hair, all while looking stylish. I haven’t watched whatever Gundam series he often parodies, but if I did I’m sure I would think he was even more awesome. As it stands he is well on his way to being one of my favorite male characters ever.

We are thereafter treated to some more beach fun, with people rubbing suntan lotion on each other’s backs. Ren accidentally cops a feel of Miyu’s breasts, earning him the wrath of her robot friend. You know a show is awesome when it’s a 13 episode show and they have 2 beach episodes within the first 5. Just goes to show you that this show has it’s priorities straight.

Ren and Benisu go shopping and run into a little girl who tries to jack Ren’s wallet. Benisu catches her beforehand, but instead of punishing her gives her some fruit and sends her off. Then some random guy comes up and asks Benisu to come hang out with him, and she responds by beating the crap out of him. Ren later asks the Colonel about Benisu and he launches into a story about how they met in the past. Nothing revolutionary here, neglected and abandoned young Benisu turns to a life of crime, Colonel catches her and she is eventually taken in by the Kuonji family. As a result she had felt sympathy for the girl in the marketplace because it reminded her of herself. Overall pretty yawn, but they at least need to inject some background story for these characters. Thankfully her story is like limited to a smallish portion of this episode, saving more room for fanservice. Later on in the show I hope that the better characters (namely Shinra) get a large amount of time for their stories, because obviously they should be more interesting.

Well later on the douchebag from the market before brings his buddies to try and pick up on Benisu again. She beats them up a bit but then he threatens the little girl from before and they surrender. Ren and Benisu are taken away and tied up in their basement, where one assumes they plan on doing dirty things to Benisu. In order to distract them from that goal and keep Benisu safe Ren starts talking shit to them and gets beaten up as a result. Of course Benisu gets pissed because she is independent and doesn’t want to have to rely on or be saved by anyone. She then goes into more details of her former life to Ren. Pretty manly move there by Ren, which is something we’ve come to expect from a guy like him. Typical tsundere reaction by Benisu, but fits with her character.

Eventually the rest of the family comes and save the day, including a slightly crazed Mihato who stabs one of the guys with her hairpin because they dared to hurt her precious Ren-chan. She’s awesome when she shows her yandere side, I would definitely not want to be on the receiving end of such treatment though. Shinra confronts a couple of the guys, one of which charges him and gets blown away by the Colonel, who shoots a big ass laser out of his finger (did I mention the Colonel is pimp awesome yet?). Even Miyu and Natase get in on the action, taking guys out to save their servants. Shinra as always looked delicious in her one-piece dress, and supervised the operation. As witnessed in the Kuonji flag episode she is able to strike down her enemies without laying even a finger on them, she makes excellent use of her servants.

Despite the kinda lame and cliche Benisu story the episode was still pretty good. It had to create some background story for the characters, and I’ve seen much worse for more minor characters like Benisu. Although in the game she’s one of the girls you can hook up with, it’s pretty obvious from the show so far that if he hooks up with one in the end it won’t be her. She has been kinda set as one of the side characters, and for good reason because Shinra, Miyu, and Mihato are much more interesting characters. And as always the episode was laden with plenty of fanservice, fetish goodness, and the high levels of GAR we’ve come to expect from Kimiaru.

Next Episode:
Yume episode time! This one looks to be complete with Sailor Moon and Death Note parodies, let the fun begin.

You haven’t seen G Gundam? My friend, I highly recommend it. It has the distinction of being the only clearly super robot Gundam show around. It’s pretty epic. What really makes this show special is that Ren and the Colonel are voiced by the lead character (Domon) and his mentor (Master Asia) respectively.

Pointless list of things I noticed in this episode:

1. Shorter maid skirts (must be Kuonji family’s foreign policy)

2. De-Niro’s drill mode reminds me of the @ss-drilling robot from Inukami!

3. Miyu copied a killing style from a Spider-gang member in HunterXHunter. (minus De-Niro’s lighting)

4. No Kurrupo! this episode.

5. ???

6. Profit?

More naked bodies and panty shots. This Winter’s lineup is already full of fanservice and you might not want to show those graphics in future posts, you know, what if a kid happens to read the post and then it might be too risky.

@Amuro1X

I have only seen SEED, SEED Destiny, and I am currently watching 00. Those are the only Gundam shows I’ve had a chance to watch. Although if those two guys are voicing characters in it I’m sure it is epic and GAR, maybe I’ll have to watch it.

@Gravmech

No objections here to the shorter skirts, they have my stamp of approval. Ahhhh Inukami, was there ever a show with more manservice? I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen so much naked man meat in an anime aside from that show. Heh, never seen Hunter x Hunter, but I wouldn’t be surprised, the show does tend to parody a healthy amount. Yes no Kurrupo from what I remember but plenty of hairpin and onee-chan’s secret tools!
