Everyone come play Ragnarok Online with me! :D

Haha, probably the sole reason that I don't play MMOs is for the addictiveness of them. I feel that if I ever try one out, I'll get hooked and maybe die eating doritos like that one guy. It looks very WoWesque to say the least, it seems that nothing original is coming out lately. Still waiting for Starcraft II hrhrhr.

I think that's the problem with a lot of MMO games now a days. Almost a good chunk of MMOs take from a lot of pre-existing games in style and gameplay. Not that there's much one can do about it since the genre is a bit limiting in terms of what works and what doesn't. That's why it's always a little refreshing to see those very few unique games out there like CoH or FFXI.

You should still be able to get an invite to Mythos beta fairly easily by sending an e-mail to info@hellgatelondon.com and asking for one. They usually get you in within a day or two.

Mythos is pretty fun and despite its published high profile cousin (Hellgate London), Mythos feels so much more complete and logical for many aspects of the game than Hellgate (even after several major patches and content updates in Hellgate).

The core game in Mythos is more like Diablo than WoW but I can see where there are parts like WoW. Heck, 90% of WoW is ripped off ideas from previous games and they even mention that during developer diaries... so its nothing new that developers try to incorporate ideas from other titles that players like.

I'm also in closed beta...quite fun actually...

Main complain is the short range of your gun...(gadgeteer...)...dang it's short...I know it can be upgraded, but at least give us a bit better initial range...

The part you say about the identify NPC is understandable...but I think the developers are stick to their Hellgate root on this...(but yeah...that deviate from their Diablo root too...Flagship was former Blizzard North employee (not sure on Seattle branch which dev Mythos, as the project leader worked on Fable before...which was with Lionhead...but the main Flagship certainly is...) who develop Diablo...)

Yeah the chat interface hard to get used to...(also another relic from Hellgate...)...but it's actually quite good though...

About the engine...it's actually a test engine for Hellgate...but then Flagship Seattle got good idea on using it and develop this...

Still looking forward...

Actually, it looks like it's using the engine from Warcraft 3 (instead of WoW). That's probably why it was compared to Diablo 2. The overhead perspective and point-and-click interface is definitely Diablo's hack-n-slash style. It's probably cheaper to license the old War3 engine and mod it than pay for whatever recent build of WoW's engine Blizzard is using.

I'm currently playing the closed beta and agree with all the issues that you've brought up. The lack of a full tutorial in the beginning definitely needs to be addressed considering Zone 1 is supposed to be the beginner's area. Dunno why they don't have something in place.

Plot: From what I've read, there isn't so much a plot that they have in mind, but quests and whatnot to explain the history of Mythos. I really do find the quests really boring right now and I've stopped playing until they release Zone 3.

The interface looks very WoW-esque. It's like every upcoming MMO is trying to copy WoW as much as possible. (Well, considering the subscriber numbers, it's probably not surprising.)

Hopefully there'll be some plotline or backstory to the game soon enough, although I'd think that by the time the game is available to the public, even in closed beta, there should already be some hints of a story at the least.

Also, I'm really hoping that it's easily soloable, which is one of the reasons I quit FFXI, and why I'm still playing CoH.
