The technical workings of a missile make it more prone to failure than a shell guided by gravity and thus reliability is still with artillery. So until they perfect the point defense laser, energy shields, linear accelerators or coil guns the gun-howitzer is here to stay. Sometimes just letting the other side know that you can bring every divisional 155mm gun to bear in less than 5 minutes is often enough to bring attacks to a grinding halt.
