After 2 weeks of specials, it is back to our regular viewing of Saiunkoku Monogatari. During the last episode, Shuurei finally had a chance to meet up with Jyuusan Hime. Much to her surprise, it is the girl that she met previously on the road when there was a thief. How will Shuurei communicate with Jyuusan Hime, and what is the status of Shuuei? Shuurei has to worry not only about being the lure for the assassination attempts, but also the attention of Seiga as he awaits his chance to embarrass and insult Shuurei.

Episode summary
Shuurei finally met up with Jyuusan Hime as Shuurei recognized Jyuusan Hime as the girl on the streets. After that meeting, Shuurei dressed up and Suou Shin commented how Shuurei’s chest grew. Seiran whispered that he should ignore that, as well as Shuurei becoming prettier. Shuurei said she could hear it, as Seiran denied saying anything at all. Suou Shin continued to say that even if the chest is fake, men like big chests. Seiran promptly gave Suou Shin a kick and said it was not Shuurei’s fault that she had a small chest. Suou Shin said having such a servant like Seiran was bad, but Shuurei said they were equally bad as Jyuusan Hime agreed. Jyuusan Hime asked about the security and Seiran answered that it was by the army.
Shuurei also talked about “Shun”, the prisoner that would be a standout in the crowd. Jyuusan Hime called “Shuurei-chan”, and told Shuurei that she would be fishing. Shuurei asked if it was her hobby, but she said that it was a way to test poison. Seiran also asked for more reinforcements and security when Jyuusan Hime is fishing. As expected, when Jyuusan Hime caught a fish and fed it food, it died as the food was poisoned. Shuurei instructed Seiran to buy the food, and she would cook the food itself. That delighted Jyuusan Hime, who commented that Shuurei’s cooking could even gain the praise of Ryuuren.
At night, Jyuusan Hime noticed two people on the top of the ceiling as she wondered about the security of the palace. They were clearly small fries, and she did not want to alert them unnecessarily if she fought them off. Hence, she simply sneezed, and they left. The next day, Seiga commented that Shuurei looked just the same, and said that the men around her did not have basic etiquette. When questioned on Shuurei’s appearance, Seiga said he liked the appearance of the old Shuurei as he did not like women who dolled up. Shuurei was also surprised how gentlemanly Seiga can be, and he said that it was the fact that Shuurei is now Jyuusan Hime. Behind the shadows, Jyuusan Hime commented that it is going to be a new moon, and that Seiga is already making his move.
Ryuuki finally met up with Jyuusan Hime, who suggested fishing. Ryuuki confessed that he loved Shuurei when questioned, and apologized for not being able to treat her with romance. Jyuusan Hime said she came in order to protect the person she loves, and will do anything to keep him safe. Jyuusan Hime said Shuurei was doing everything for Ryuuki, but understood that Ryuuki wanted her to try harder. Jyuusan Hime suddenly asked Ryuuki whether he believed everything has a solution and things would be solved perfectly, and he said he did. Jyuusan Hime said he might be the third after someone from the Kou clan and one of the Ran brothers.
After fishing, Jyuusan Hime found an unwell Shusui looking rather uncomfortable. Shusui said she is all right now and Jyuusan Hime asked about Shusui’s expressions of Shuuei. Jyuusan Hime said that she heard that Shuuei was rather popular, and Shusui said that she always had more work due to his romantic antics. Jyuusan Hime immediately apologized but said that it was surprising for someone to criticize Shuuei. Shuuei often gave the perception that he was perfect, and his weaknesses were hidden well. Jyuusan Hime was shocked at how Shuuei had a terrible image to Shusui. Shusui also requested for Jyuusan Hime to stay in the palace.
Night time, Shuurei was used as bait in a horse carriage, but Shuurei complained that the bait was way too obvious. Shun stood outside of the carriage, telling her that he was one of “the spirits in the prison”. He told Shuurei to listen to Jyuusan Hime for her own safety as Shuurei realized that Shun probably knew Jyuusan Hime well. He warned that the “event” will happen on the new moon and allow Shuuei to do his thing. Shun said everything would move smoothly, and told Shuurei to keep it a secret from Seiga even if it was hard. After a firefly flew past, Shun added by saying that Shuurei was really like the woman he loved.
Seiga came and Shuurei denied everything about Shun. Seiga said that Shuurei became smart and addressed her as “Shuurei”, the first time he did it. The horse carriage started to move as Seiga said that he could help to readjust Shuurei’s hair. When Shuurei asked where Seiga was going, he said he did not know but said that it was to waste some time. Seiga said someone would pick her up anyway. Shuurei was surprised how good Seiga was at tidying hair, but Seiga coldly told her to do some research about him to find out. As he got closer and taunted her to entertain him, Shuurei realized that Seiga did not trust women at all, and retorted strongly that she was not a play thing for him.
Just when Seiga’s lips were about to touch Shuurei, a horse ride came as it was Shuuei who picked her up. Shuuei asked what happened, and Shuurei told him that the event would come on the new moon. When Shuurei asked Shuuei whether he believed that everything has a solution, Shuuei said he never believed in such a thing. Shuurei dismounted, and was annoyed when Shuuei commented that the hairdo really fitted Shuurei, and thought it was done by Shusui. Shuuei also said that he liked Ryuuki, but liking Ryuuki is different from his loyalties as Shuurei realized that the trusted flower was no longer with Shuuei.
Shuurei came back at a mess, and Jyuusan said Shuurei looked like she was going to scream. Shuurei said she would feed some radish to the horses. However, when Jyuusan Hime was about to join her, the description of Shun seemed to resonate within her and she seemed to be affected as she told Shuurei to go ahead alone. Ryuuki met Shuurei at the stables, while we see Seiga promising to protect the general in charge of protecting Jyuusan Hime.
Thoughts
Sorry for not updating my thoughts! My friends actually came to my house today and we have such a great time. Ok, I admit that it is the evil of civilization 4 too. Well, other than giving excuses, it’s time for my discussion (and yours as well).
One major thing is the question of why Seiga is trying to lure Shuuei to save Shuurei. It almost looks as though he is not too surprised at all that Shuuei is going to come over. I have a feeling that Seiga seems to suspect Shuuei to be one of the suspects in the assassination, and to make sure that the emperor is turned away from the strongest clan in the Saiunkoku world. However, with Seiga’s behavior, I really cannot tell what he is really thinking at all. He’s perhaps the most complex person in the story, since you still do not know his aims. Seiga is just the type of character you love to hate and like for his evil behavior.
Jyuusan Hime is completely awesome! If anything, she is definitely a very streetwise girl, and she explains that she is adopted rather than born into the Ran clan. That definitely begs the question about the circumstances that she gets into the Ran clan. In that case, her choice to protect a person (which is clearly Shuuei) she loves, she does anything. That makes her a really interesting princess that I wish to see much more in the Saiunkoku Monogatari series. She adds the grace of a princess with the streetwise behavior of a beauty thug.
Who the hell is Shun anyway? That guy is really jumping into the plot without any notice at all, calling himself a ghost of the prison. I do wonder if the person he loves is Jyuusan Hime before she entered into the Ran clan, but the wistful feel when Shun describes the woman he loved made me think that she is either dead or away from him forever. I do want to know what this event is, and where it is coming from. I will not be too surprised if it’s someone from the nobles since they are the ones who aim to usurp power.
Lastly, I really want to comment about how Seiran and Suou Shin are focusing about Shuurei’s chest. I mean, Suou Shin making a dig at Shuurei’s chest is quite logical since he is a really blunt person. However, when Seiran went on a tangent about “not blaming Ojou-sama for having small breasts” made me laugh so hard since Seiran’s warped form of protecting Shuurei is just way too adorable. I actually agree with Seiga that she looks much better without any strange make up since I also do not like dolled up characters.

@SEAMaiden: that is very true…… i would like to see some epilogues. and it is true but according to the novel Ou Ki might be after the throne…. i think its ou ki…… correct me if i’m wrong. i think they’d definitely finish the story with seiga and shuuei’s trust for the emp but it would be sort of rushed because there are only 9 eps left. and no i don’t think you missed anyone. i think that sa sakujun is still living somewhere….. i’m not sure if it is true but i just had a feeling. and it is true that jyuusan-hime isn’t getting many approvals on her being ryuuki’s consort although she might be a good consort……….. i mean i’m starting to doubt about shuurei and ryuuki’s relationship!!! SHUUREI IS SOOOOOO SLOW!!! and ya i do think the author really needs a huge note books for all the plots she has right now, but she’s the author and its her story any ways. i think she MIGHT just have some interesting thing instore for us saimono fans!

Hmmm, Sakujun…who knows, Yukino might bring him up again. It’s almost too easy to fall for his devastatingly good looks + charms… but he’s way too twisted. Too much bottomless darkness, like Seiran said it, for a bad-boy image! It shouldn’t be surprising that he may have delved into dark magic of some kind before to fend off his boredom (Season 1 recall – how he disappeared into the night after meeting Shuurei, Seiran, Kokojun and Ensei at the bloody Chrysanthemum Residence). Maybe he has become a spirit after the poison overtook him finally near Season 1 ending. His body was never found + Eigetsu hallucinated seeing him at the Senka mountains (I think)at Sa province during the tapeworm infection period.
If given the chance to revive Sakujun again in future plots, I rather say ‘no’ to that… unless he’s given vital keys to piece together missing puzzles of Saimono story. For now, grudgingly, I’ll give him credit for being the romantic turning-point for Shuurei. She never look at love the same way again…
@SEAMaiden: I really feel that if anything, Sakujun is perhaps used as the perfect trump card eventually when the need requires of him in the plot when Shuurei finally deals with the Hyou clan. His devious behavior, his personal love and the lack of restraint from the noble families mean that he is almost the best person to fight against the Hyou clan for Shuurei.
Shuurei does have to be very careful of him, but I can somewhat imagine it myself.
@Azn: My personal feel is that the series will definitely have a third season. I just have a feeling that they will have a bit of fillers here and there in order to wait for the novel to catch up of sorts. So, we probably have some low time before it starts. Oh well =3

Remember in the first season when Ryuuki was trying to ditch his emperor duties? The elders calculated the bloodlines, so in case the new emperor does not function well, they have choices.

Wow! That’s very plausible. If Yukino is thinking the same line as you did, then it’s no so bad for Sakujun to come back after all, although now it’s not the time. The ‘traffic jam’ of the storyline now is becoming a gridlock, what with more possible new characters coming in later.

About Seiga and Shuurei – Shuurei was recuited in investigate section although her superior thinks about her as naive and too good-hearted, but she’s clever so she made it. I think this all stuff is just to wipe out this naivete of hers. Without it now when you can’t rely on anybody she’d simpy be killed and this situations are somehow arranged in this purpose. And I think they are good, Seiga have big infuence on her. He really plays with her to expose her weakness and made her to go though it.
There was a hint to look better at new opening and I agree. We already knows all people without one. This mysterious Shun is in it too, with Shuuei and Jyuusan hime. So he’s somewhat related to Ran clan for sure. And he was accused about murder so he was in jail. Strange… I’m bit dissapointed about Hyou clan too after this exciting scene with old Riou and Shouka. Maybe they’re pulling strings behind the scene? And once again, opening. This strange women showed with poor Shusui and Shouka, she seems to be from Hyou clan.
Too much mysteries and only 9 episoses to goo~~
@ SEAMaiden- yep yep…. all of this is gonna be really exciting. and sakujun DOES hav a lot of charm and good looks! He does but he’s very dark at the same time. but i think that before he did take on the form of an evil spirit and maybe while shuurei was looking for someone to help him he dissolved. but i do love the fun anime play boy type in some animes sometimes, they usually give a little spark of comedy to the whole story… and ya shuurei did get a WHOLE different view of love after her encounter with him. and i think that he was the one who pushed her to mature a little and i think thats a good thing. and i think that we need another character like this who will push shuurei to maturing more! because i’m sort of starting to get a bit irritated with shuurei’s naiiveness. i mean it was cute in the first season because it moved the story along. but now the characters are really mature men officials who are older than her, you’d wish her to act a little more mature to deal with them….
@Impz- you are so right, that does really make me want sakujun back in!!! you are very convincing…. but i’m sort of getting tired of the recap eps but i guess we’ll all have to hang in there!!!
@KaeBoo-ya i read that when i was reading the summaries of the G novels….i mean its so complex. i mean every person in saimono is always mysteriously connected to another person and some of us don’t even expect it. and if i was the author herself i’d need a huge map to keep track of the relationship, otherwise our Yukino is one amazing woman. and it stands true that it would take me at least half a month to figure out all the relationships!!! its sooo complex. also i thought that reishin’s wife Yuri-hime was older than reishin, wasn’t she. and that she married him because she was the only one that actually under stood him(personally). and that before she married reishin she was shouka’s betrothed, that she is only a few years younger than him!!! and he left his younger brothers with her so he could go and be a bandit i think…… AAAHHHH!!! so confusing i’m gonna need a day or two to sort out all this info… hehe…
I’m totally for Shurrei and Ryukki all the way, hopefully the episodes that are coming up with have some sort of involvment n their relationship… i hope.

I agree, they did mention about the Hyou clan but that’s about it, I mean come to think of it I wonder what happened to the white haired character that was the head of the Hyou clan (Sry, don’t remember his name). I just hope they don’t clump and try to squish to answer the questions @ the end w. a clumpy ending. I definitely agree that I kind of hope they fasten the story a bit >SEAMaiden
hahas, I like the fact that you bring up Shurrei’s backyard garden often in ur comments, It gives me some hope to look forward to about Shurrei and Ryuuki’s relationship. How herself personally blooms and wait till shes full blossomed like the sakura trees. I think the sakura trees is kind of a symbolic indication of Ryuuki and Shurrei’s relationship; sure it takes awhile to bloom, but when it’s fully in blossom countlessly, it’s really a beautiful sight. Hopefully, the duration of the sakura trees blossom, kind of relates to Ryuuki and Shurrei’s development. [plzzz let it do] xP

O_O” I mean when he met her in tht peach cutting scene he made her feed him, basically. Though Anjun may have other aims @__@” And another thing that came across my mind, it seems that in Saiunkoku, no body in there actaully has a precise, accurate, well known, and seen clearly background.. (Well maybe Shurrei)But for the other characters its just kinda mentioned. Take Shushi for one, I dunno much about her period, all tht is really known is that shes from a assassin group the same as Shouka. Hmm, lol tho it would be just fillers having to explain every1’s background, but maybe the main characters like I wouldn’t mind getting to know a little more about the 3 Kou Brothers, {Kourou, Rei Shin & Shouka) Oh, and all tht is said ab. Shouka mentioned in Season 1 was tht hes a skilled ninja, xP. idk I guess I just thought of this, deriving from SEAMaidens’ thoughts on realted bloodlines, and that there could be others out there that were seperated as a child. x]

I had a question: when does Ryuuki say he wishes that he could be a horse-when he was fishing with the 13th Princess or right at the end, when Shuurei is feeding the horses. If its right at the end, that means Shuurei actually heard him say that, and if she did than that must move things up a bit because she must understand how much Ryuuki loves her and is troubled by her absence from him.
