Koharu Biyori OVA- Moerobo Bravo

kb1main.jpg

I had no idea what the hell this was about before I watched it, but the guys at m.3.3.w released this 3 episode OVA and I was bored at the time. I am quite glad I decided to watch this, as it was damn funny. It’s like He Is My Master on crack and steroids- maids, robots, cosplaying, boobs, and lolis. Good stuff.

kb1-02.jpgkb1-03.jpgkb1-07.jpgkb1-08.jpgkb1-09.jpgkb1-10.jpgkb1-11.jpgkb1-12.jpgkb1-13.jpgkb1-14.jpgkb1-15.jpgkb1-16.jpgkb1-17.jpgkb1-18.jpgkb1-19.jpgkb1-20.jpgkb1-21.jpgkb1-22.jpgkb1-23.jpgkb1-24.jpgkb1-25.jpgkb1-26.jpgkb1-27.jpgkb1-01.jpg

A full summary really wouldn’t do you any good since the fun is all in watching it, but I can give a brief overview. Basically, male lead (Takaya) goes into a robot shop which appears to sell female robots of various types designed to please their masters. Boy picks hot maid robot that magically appears to be the one for him, and has it sent to his house, then names her Yui. However, Yui discovers that Takaya is a pervert who didn’t buy her to clean anything, but instead bought her so he could dress her up, the guy has like 5 different maid outfits at least. Needless to say she is not pleased, and hilarious conflict and boob shots ensue. Eventually they meet a couple of the rest of the cast, Ayumi (the loli) and Minori (girl with the gigantic rack). Minori is a waitress at her father’s cafe, and when they go inside and meet him Takaya discovers a kindred soul in her father, and they have a cosplay contest, dressing up the girls in various outfits. At the end we also meet Ayumi’s mother Kanae who is also very delicious. The final episode focuses on Yui taking care of Minori’s baby nephew I believe and includes a part where the baby tries to nurse on Yui, which doesn’t exactly work.

OP:

kb1-04.jpgkb1-05.jpgkb1-06.jpg

I loved this OP, both visually, lyrically, and musically. It has the standard excerpt animation from the show itself, but they picked very good parts to go along with the music. The lyrics are hilarious and over the top, a parody of the fanservice genre in general with lines such as “don’t take off my apron,” “I found myself completely naked in a box, help me!” and “please stop, it’s so embarrassing” emphasize the general themes of the show. They say, let’s take the cliche characters of fanservice shows and just make them overly ridiculous. And for some reason the tune is really addicting, I think I had it on repeat for awhile there.

Impressions:

While many of the concepts in KB aren’t exactly revolutionary, it does take everything way over the top and to a new level. I think it’s pretty appropriate to call it a parody of various character archetypes. What’s funny is that the maid robot is probably the most level headed one of the show, realizing how inappropriate much of what Takaya wants her and the other girls to do/wear is. The girls fill in standard character types such as tsundere maid robot (Yui), imouto loli (Ayumi), large breasted airhead (Minori), but are very enthusiastically portrayed. The tsundere maid that thinks the main character is a pervert but discovers he has a heart of gold has been done before, but they take that character and throw her in totally outrageous and ridiculous situations so we can laugh about it. It turns out that even in his sleep Takaya is imagining what to have her wear.

Also, since it’s an OVA, they aren’t likely to delve into huge amounts of character development in a show like this. I would assume they will stick to what makes this show a blast to watch, lots of humor and fanservice. They managed to stuff in nekkomimi, tentacles, maid outfits, Chinese dresses, baby outfits and more all into one OVA. Delicious indeed.

The show isn’t going to win any awards, and won’t inspire leagues of discussion like ef, but it’s still a fun ride. Not everything you watch has to be serious or even in good taste, right?

    I watched it, some parts were really funny and nice. Other weren´t even close to being intrested. I dislike male leads like this that don´t take into consideration their “woman”´s feelings.

    So maybe one more OAV, if there ever is one I´ll probably watch it, but most likely not.

    Hahahaha, I actually enjoy it because it’s so over the top when I was forced to watch it with my girlfriend. Well, if you are wondering, it’s my girlfriend who insisted that we should watch this OVA. Honestly, I like the fanservice because it makes it so blatant that it’s ridiculous.

    This is clearly a show that is for the “dumbed down” audience. I mean, it’s not meant to be taken seriously at all and I find myself enjoying the tsundere quite a bit. The baby suckling scene was…a tad disturbing to be honest for the fanservice. :D

    that scene was one of the few good parts in my opinion :p babies suck better than anyone else.

    For fanservice, quite good show and yes, it being over the top is what makes one laugh. But male leads like that just makes me so damn angry. I don´t know why.

    Girlfriend who insists on watching this kind of show? Wow :)

    Weirdly enough, I’m really enjoying the soundtrack, especially the OP and ED songs.

    I’m also speculating on what the show would have been like as a more substantial (so to speak) harem comedy. I know I’d have enjoyed it, although probably with less blatant fanservice. Yui is pretty fun to watch in action.

    The elephant scene was when I laughed my head off, and I had to bribe/blackmail goshujin-sama into watching it. I am not a “dumbed-down” audience so shush!

    @DKellis

    There’s a million other straight harem shows out there with drama and conflict. I’m glad this doesn’t have that same type of feel as others do, it really didn’t focus on any of that in the first OVA.

    @ThirteenSugars

    Yeah the elephant part was one of the funnier sections of the last episode, reminded me a bit of Inukami.

    Actually, I’m not looking for the million other straight harem shows with drama and conflict: I’m looking for a harem comedy. Drama and conflict are definitely not my taste.

    Totally agree with you here Calawain.

    I totally loved the pacing, the fanservice, the comedy and music in this show. The animation is pretty consistent as well.

    This show reminds me of a cross between He is My Master and Seto no Hanayome with the changing facial expressions by Takaya
