Episode summary

Shuurei realized that Suou Shin did not return to his home for a while and wondered where he was. Shuurei then visited Shuuei and received the accounting books. Shuuei gave her some dango, similar to what Seiran gave her. Shuuei also had a special request, asking her to eat from the stick. Shuuei wondered why he received the trusted flower, and Shuurei replied that he deserved it. Ryuuki was probably the only one who could answer this. At a residence, Suou Shin was talking to a madam with a lot of jewelery, and the madam was admiring all the jewelery. Suou Shin found a black item which was the original coin maker on the table, and asked for it. The madam said it was ugly and told Suou Shin to remove it from her sight.
According to Seiga, the Jin clan never tried to disturb the salt industry traveling around its area. Shuurei said that attacking the high grade of Ran’s salt imports was dangerous and by adding impurities to already low grade salt, the price would inevitably rise due to shortages. Seiga found that the Jin clan was spending a lot on jewelery lately. The huge spending in order to facilitate such an issue in salt meant that there must be something more to fund this exercise in controlling the salt supply, and the fake coins came into mind. However, Seiga interrupted and told Shuurei that it was enough evidence to write a proposal and regain her officialdom using this proposal.
Shuurei finally finished the proposal after burning the midnight oil, but was told by Seiga to rest for a while. He promised to wake her up later. It was already evening when she woke up, but only Youxiu was around to inform Shuurei that Seiga left to do something. Shuurei found her proposal missing and immediately rushed out to the Jin residence. As Shuurei reached the Jin residence, she found Seiga who changed completely, calling her a naive woman. He said he wondered where Shuurei wanted to go, and was glad to come one step earlier to steal the credit. Seiga asked whose residence this was, and Shuurei said it was the Jin clan. However, the madam of the house was also Suou Shin’s mother, who left his father for a rich man.
It was apparent that Seiga was from the investigative department, and he instructed the soldiers to leave the women alone but confiscate all the things that were of any worth. He said he was impeded by Shuurei’s incompetence and was barely able to tolerate her useless behavior. During the previous forgery, he was the one who gave the raccoon to Suou Shin, but he blamed Shuurei for alerting everyone about the paintings. Shuurei finally realized that it was Seiga who took the proposal. Seiga laughed at Shuurei’s stupidity for leaving something so important unattended while she slept soundly. Suou Shin appeared, and said that he was here to work. His mother could not recognize him at all, and said that Seiga’s true form finally showed.

Seiga said Suou Shin was just blowing hot air, but Suou Shin heard rumors about the youngest investigative officer. He revealed his weakness when Shuurei called him “Tan Tan”, but Seiga called him Suou Shin and Seiga was not supposed to know his name. Seiga was in shock as Suou Shin said he must be surprised that an idiot could find out that small bit of weakness. Shuurei asked why Suou Shin did not do anything, but Suou Shin added that things were much easier with him around. Seiga replied that it was useless since everything is established, but Suou Shin said confidently that Shuurei would regain her officialdom as he threw the coin maker to Shuurei.
Shuurei said that the real coin maker was nowhere to be found, which was why Suou Shin was trying to find it. Finding it meant that his father was not the culprit and spared his father the death penalty. Seiga asked how he knew the coin maker was here, and Suou Shin said that his father was extremely happy when Suou Shin was asked to propose marriage to Shuurei. Hence, he realized it might be related to his mother, and Shuurei realized that all three forgeries had a relationship. It seemed that his father still loved his mother a lot, and became her pawn. Seiga warned that there was a mastermind behind all this, but he said if they delve deeper, they would be in trouble. Even Suou Shin’s father did not see the man before this thing before.
Suou Shin decided to gamble his father’s life in order to find this mastermind, but he allowed Shuurei to find this mastermind to keep her post as he shouted out to the chief investigator, Kouki. Kouki moved forward, and said that Shuurei was idiotic, naive and was completely unreliable. However, she did have some brains like Seiga and was said to be useless if alone. Kouki requested for Suou Shin to join his department, as his idiotic outlook could trick others. Kouki said he would use Suou Shin well, and told Shuurei that the department would not tolerate naivety and it required doing everything in order to get the task done. Kouki added that idealism was to be thrown out of the window, keep justice out of sight and concentrated on defeating the enemy tasked.
Seiga said he was surprised that Shuurei was recruited by Kouki. Shuurei said she was way too naive, and Suou Shin already warned her a lot of times. Suou Shin said it was her perseverance that pushed him along, and said that she was not that annoying. Shuurei decided to work at Kouki, and Suou Shin said he would as well. Shuurei said she would never be like Seiga. Shuurei realized that Suou Shin’s father was not dead, but he was nearly assassinated by someone. His father realized that the rice dumplings were made differently, and Suou Shin made a deal with Kouki to let his father out and spread news that his father was dead. Suou Shin did wonder who the mastermind was and Shuurei wondered what the motive was. A silhouette of a man was sitting, hearing about some news.
Ryuuki realized that it was a good thing they did not allow the plan for officials to govern the salt, but Yuushun said it was only the beginning of a deep plot. Reishin saw the report done by Youxiu, calling Shuurei naive, idealistic and allowed Seiga to get all the credit. Reishin asked about the last part where Youxiu offered to marry Shuurei, only for Reishin to unleash the fury and worked on getting rid of all useless officials. In the throne room, Reishin reported the people relieved of duty as many were shocked that even high nobles were targeted. Yuushun added that the special role for salt control would be postponed, and young Riou came in as a new official as everyone was surprised that a kid appeared. Shuuei also found out that the thirteen’s princess was going to enter the palace…
Thoughts

I am extremely surprised that Suou Shin’s mother cannot even recognize her own son at all. It’s such an embarrassment that Suou Shin’s mother is of such a poor character, one that only cares about money, jewelery and riches. It’s strange how his father, despite being a complete idiot, is attracted to such a mercenary woman. Nevertheless, Suou Shin’s attempt to infiltrate the Jin clan is extremely good, and he is perhaps the saving grace of Shuurei if he did not come to her aid. Shuurei’s naivety was saved by a stroke of genius from the supposedly “idiot”, Suou Shin.
Shuurei’s weakness is exposed completely in this episode. She is way too trusting, naive, and sees the world in simply black and white. The thing is apparent that being an official does not mean that she has the ability to move mountains because the ugly word, “politics” is something that Shuurei is not knowledgeable about. The investigative department is definitely the best place for her to shed off her naivety and work smartly as an official. She can still be herself, but she needs to learn to protect herself much more because there might be a time where no one will be able to save her.
Her trusting behavior has nearly cost her the job in officialdom. Youxiu and Kouki were spot on with the flaws of Shuurei, even though Kouki added that Shuurei is possibly a raw diamond that will grow with the right treatment. Shuurei is clearly rather smart for her age, being able to understand logical and complex issues, but will require some attention and idealism removed out of her system. Well, at least quite a bit of that idealism has to go out of the way if she is to survive in the world of politics. It’s still a pity in my opinion that Reishin cannot teach her that, since he is perhaps the best person. I think Shuurei’s impression of him might change drastically though, if he tried. Haha!
I did not catch what Riou’s post is to be honest. What is he supposed to be doing with his officer role? It seems that it is quite an important post, and considering it is one of Hyou’s clan members, the mysterious clan that seems always to elude most people except for the saints. One more curious thing is that if Riou is already 80 years old, does that mean that the young Riou might be much older than he seems to be. I mean, a normal father of 80 should have a son of around 25-30 years old. They should really patent for a pill on keeping youthful looks. They can earn a lot from that!
I am not that surprised at Seiga’s change, since I expected him to be a mole. He is way too impressive as a person to be someone that is planted randomly. However, Youxiu gave me a shock as I did not expect him to be the mole for Reishin, even though I like how Reishin reacted when Youxiu offered to marry Shuurei. I think Youxiu does not know the scary side of Reishin as yet, and he needs to feel the dangerous wrath of our metrosexual cold blooded uncle.

OMG KaeBoo, you can’t be serious! Now’s my turn to fall off the chair XO
Jyusan originally betrothed to seiran, eh? Hmwww…oh…wait a minute! First, Jyusan was meant for Seiran, now she is given to Ryuuki. Are you telling me that Jyusan is a political bride meant to infiltrate the palace or something? Something didn’t work out with Seiran in the past, and that’s why she is sent to the palace (again!), this time to be Ryuuki’s concubine. Is she a mere pawn for her Ran scheming plans? Or is she the scheming one up to something?
Please somebody, satisfy this curiosity of mine!
wahh, so many spoilers on my blog
Oh well, it’s not like I am not used to it. Now, i have to go make all the spoiler tags. I was just extremely busy since i have to prepare for exams

Okay, I give up on the Spoiler tags!
DO NOT READ BELOW!!! SPOILER!!!
on the 13 princess. She wasn’t engaged to Serian…She was sent for either Serian or Ryuukie (the Ran Triplets were going to let her choose it appeared). Shuei advised for Ryuukie and after meeting Ryuukie she like him, saw his potential, and realized how she could really help him out as his Queen. The man she was really in love with was someone else (I’m trying to leave a few surprises). But she made it clear to that person that she was going for Ryuukie now, if he will have her! That is one of the reasons I love her so much. She is really cool!
omg i love u all Spoilers

Ooooo, is that so? Jyuusan was meant for either Ryuuki or Seiran to her liking? It’s good that someone else finally realised Ryuki’s true potential, after a lot of backlashing from the court for this or that political mess %P
I think I’m liking Jyuusan even more now
But I’m kinda concerned for her as well. To be in love with someone else but now you suddenly change your sight on Ryuuki (within a short time) = a dangerous rushing love that could turn out to be infatuation in the end. Ryuuki wants a wife who would love him as Ryuuki, not an Emperor, can Jyuusan do just that? As far as you guys are telling me, she sees him as am emperor overall. She would need to be brutally honest with herself if she’ll be happy forever to be with someone she doesn’t love, even she tries pretending for a time period :O
Don’t ask me why, whoever she’s in love with, I hope is someone worthy of her love. To be honest, I seriously am eager for Seiran/Jyuusan romance, no matter what background complications they had. And oh, add Shuuei to be their obstacle for that extra spice in the story
I really like Jyusan-hime a lot. She’s sharp and can seem to read into situations that Shuurei might miss. I’m not saying that Shuurei is dumb — her focus is like those workhorses with blinders on. Shuurei is definitely the more intellectual scholar type. While Jyusan is definitely more streetsmart. And because she’s had her own trouble in love, she is not as obtuse about those areas like Shuurei. She can fight too! Love that! And she didn’t just immediately turn off her love for the 1st guy to turn her attention to Ryuuki. It wasn’t like that at all! It’s actually a little sad.
BTW, I think Jyusan and Shuurei are supposed to be about the same age, which is why she was chosen. Never mind that they even look alike!
I think Impzie is ready to pull out some hair with all us novel readers infiltrating his blog (novel translation readers anyway)! grin….
Sorry Impz! I’m sure we’re trying really hard not to give too much away! =___=;;
@alida by now, i think we all know why he calls novel and novel translation/summary readers evil? rofl
@chebi don’t get too excited about all the spoilers you get to read here. The anime has a life of its own and must be taken as it comes.
Don’t worry, you are not alone feeling frustrated that they drag on the story too much lately. Don’t you just wish you could pry into their brains and tell them to finish the story already? or maybe, enter their dreams and scream so they would do just what you would want done.
Alright, ’nuff of me. i’m starting to barble. hahaha
Kaeboo, Alida…are you guys reading the novel summaries or translations or the novels in Japanese or Chinese? I’m so frustrated because I really want to read the novels….but I can’t read Japanese or Chinese so I have to settle for the summaries….I found one translation…the Lily of the Valley one…thanks to you guys too
Anyway…is the Jyusan info in one of the novel summaries that is already out? Just asking because I haven’t read all the summaries yet…Is it available on someone’s blog already?
@ Malwethien: I stumbled across the novel summaries in the Live Journal community which is a great hub of SaiMono goodies if you haven’t already found it yourself.
Charmian has posted summaries up through Novel #12 as well as Gaiden #2 & #3. Gaiden #3 was just released 11/1 so it’s really fresh off the press. I think the Gaiden contains side stories — will probably not be animated. But I remain hopeful!
Here’s the link:

Yay! Then we’ll have more novel summary readers lurking this blog! Poor Impzie!
@Alida: Thanks! Those are all the places I go to already LOL…I was hoping that maybe there are more sites I don’t know about. I would rather read the translation that summaries….by the way if you haven’t read it already, there is a translation of a cd-drama starring Seiran, Ensei and Tei…SO FUNNY!!!
WOWWWW!!! information! information! really is cool. I want the Seiran- Juyusan tandem and Ryuuki- Shuurei. But I think Im gonna love the street- smart Jyusan more. Is there any picture of Jyusan? I want to see her physical appearance. Oh. I miss Ryuuren.:)Oh please do not wish that Shruurei will end up a political spinster.. I mean this is an anime not a somber reality. LOve rules in the end right?:)
Hey everyone! Sorry but I am soooo Shuurei/Seiran. I know they treat each other like bro/sis but if Shuurei were to show any affection Seiran would definitely return it. I got a chance to read the side story (Yippeee!!) It was just too awesome!! Based on what I read, I feel that Seiran mostly like will end up in the military and not attached to any woman, which includes, Jyusan-hime. His past was filled with women out to kill him, his mother, step mothers, sisters. Well, come to think of it, everyone tried to kill him, he had to fight everyday, thus the reason he could not trust anyone. But being with Shuurei, probably softened his views a little on women. I think in the end he will end up alone, maybe always serving by Shuurei’s side or joining the military. I think I love his character alot because he reminds me of Himura Kenshin. Anyway, Thanks everyone for talking about the side story. It sort of helps while waiting for episode 28. (recap kinda boring) But side story discussion is really worth it!^_^ Thanks again everyone!
