Anime Face-Off Round 3: Pretty Pink Princesses
Maybe I’m going crazy… but while we’re on the subject of pink-haired girlies, allow me to present you with round 3 of this ridiculous theme I call Anime Face-Off.
Lacus Clyne vs. Euphemia Li Britannia
As if Lacus had enough problems dealing with Meer Campbell… now Euphemia shows up. So what’s the contest this time? Beauty contest? Cat fight? Singing competition? (although… I remember Euphie ever singing…) I’ll let you decide this time (basically it’s just a popularity contest anyways).
Opinions
Both ladies are gifted with charm, beauty, popularity, and young emo mecha pilot boyfriends. They both seem to be icons among their respective nations and have millions of adoring fans. However, while it seems Lacus is more adored for being a teen pop idol that brings morale to the soldiers, Euphie’s more like a royal celebrity that gets a lot of attention from the media.
One of the things I think Lacus has going for her is the fact that she seems to have a lot of connections, especially to Gundams. It’s rather amazing how she can just pull a mecha out of her ass when the situation calls for it. Lacus also started up an entire rebellion and stopped a war between two nations… you can’t really say that’s a common thing to see on a resume (well it’s more like the Gundam emo squad did most of the work).
Euphemia, on the other hand, went on a crazy killing rampage (while Geassed). While it was indeed a tragic event, I think it actually scored her some cool points from the fans. That being said, it just goes to show you that some people enjoy watching nice girls turn evil.

Lacus FTW. I’ve always thought of Lacus as one of the most “perfect” female characters in any anime. She can be your girl next door one moment and at another she would be the commander behind an uber strong alliance that could hold its ground against pretty much the whole world.
Not to mention her knights pwns Euphie’s knights
SEED factor over Geass I say.
Lacus. She can sing. Fields of Hope = possibly the greatest insert song ever. She can actually get things done by herself. Euphie had grand dreams that would never work out. Lacus just makes them work. Lacus would also just laugh at Lulu if he tried to Geass her. I can’t see it working on her. (No seriously…. can you see it working??) It also depends on which side you are on… Lacus could actually be considered one of the more tyrannical and evil characters of the Seed world. So I think she has her cool points too. Euphie is a good character, but nah… she’s no Lacus.
side note on my part but i didn’t like how euphie was so nosy and like completely useless… the one time she did something good she ended up killing like a thousand japanese people although that was the geass fault (not lelouch since he didn’t mean it although he knew it’d eventually happen)

@anne: Euphie does seem to be a bit of a dreamer… And if anyone could Geass Lacus, it would be Lelouch (he’s the only one actually). Lelouch is probably clever enough to get close enough to Lacus in order to Geass her. Or maybe SEED has a special ability to resist the effects… nevermind I’m probably thinking too much into this hahaha…
Euphie is more bustier than lacus, unless she’s meer. LOL!

Hmm… Euphie scored a lot of points with me when she went on her rampage, but… it was not self-induced, and was forced upon her via Geass, so it is not “true” Psycho-moe.
As for Lacus… while she has great potential to be “Darth Pinkus”, she fails to incite any excitement within me. Seriously, unless they make an OVA where she goes “Just as planned!” while cradling the head of her fallen enemies, I cannot see myself voting for her anytime soon.
So in the end, both are lacking and if forced to choose, I would choose Euphie because at least she gave a display of psychoticism.

Obviously I´m all gung-ho for Lacus. But then again, she shares a lot of points with Euphie. Wanting to have a peacefull world for example, if Lelouch hadn´t geassed her it would have worked out.
And sure, Kira is a crybaby in the first season, no wonder when you think back on how he had to act and what he did. Suzaku on the other hand is only playing a role as he would gladely have killed everything in sight if he was his ordinary way, I don´t think Euphie would have liked that since much of her admiration for Suzaku is his ability to finish fights without killing people.
Lacus being the pink haired princess she is has the ability to convince and get help from people, thus making it quite easy to get her hands on the newest models of Gundams and such. Espacially before she was branded a traitor by Patrik Zala.
Euphie is spoiled by her sister, but she has the right mindset and wants to make things her own way and she also has a slight power to convince. But what stands in her favor is her “sacrifacing mode” where she will gladely take the hit for someone else, which in most single braincelled girls is Oh MISTRESS result…
For me? I´d rather take the bullet than have a princess stand up for me. One should protect what is important.

I say Lacus even though I don’t like her. She has more influence over people than the Chairman had. (Reason why Meer was needed.) She has her own private army (Clyne Faction)who builts freaking God-Gundam. (She had the Freedom in her basement.) A pop idol who can brainwash people. (Her voice = Lulu’s Geass) Lacus was smart enough was carry out her plans unlike Euphie who was more like a dreamer as mentioned before by someone.
One thing I don´t understand is why everyone calls Euphie a dreamer? If she hadn´t been geassed we don´t know how it would have worked out. My guess? For the better since she took in Suzaku as her knight(1+ point for equal rights) and with Lelouchs help they were going to bring Japan back to it´s former glory(1+ for equal rights) and if they had succedded, who knows what would have happened?
Give the poor girl som credit. She had big dreams and was just going to put them into action, but trouble came thundering down and it didn´t end well at all.

Euphie just sits around, dreams big, then waits for big brother/big sister/boyfriend to make something happen.
You don’t see Lacus running around waiting for someone to rescue her, do you? Lacus comes up with a realistic plan, then implements it. In the meantime, she also knocks sense into Kira when he’s in his odd (staring at the ocean/doing nothing) phases.
If you’re gonna have pink hair, at least have the guts to protect yourself. I am not a fan of the damnsel-in-distress mode.

Obviously Lacus. Just mention the hair is enough. Lacus is someone that makes the impossible posible whereas Euphie, although nice, cant do anything by herself and cant think.
If Lacus was in Euphie position, the Chaos will definitely stop by now, especially with Kira , the Ultimate Coordinator, as her partner.

Lacus Clyne – (my opinion ^^) one of the most, independent female character in a anime, not to mention the big part or role she had in gundam seed destiny, she does things on her own, decides on her own. Beauty and Brain FTW

Lacus. She is a singer, captain of the ship Eternal and leads the Clyne Faction. Voted most popular female character at Animage’s Anime Grand Prix four times: in 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2006.
And FYI about the part where she has lots conections: Her father is the ex-chairman of the military, and she leads an entire faction. Lacus actually does something about the war.
Euphie is cute, but she is just born royal. A royal pain, that is. Her status is only on birth basis. Going on a killing spree is just stupid. If thats the way you are gonna do it, then its not gonna end till every one of your enemies are killed.
If you were to even compare their popularity in the stories: face it. Lacus, actually Meer(but they thought it was Lacus), got popularity from the giant hourglass colony, to the earth, and they followed her cause she did so much in the previous war. If the media is gonna hound Euphie, its cause her dad is big, strong and powerful.
Enough said.
I went to check, she’s top heroine for the 2007 Animage Anime Grand Prix too.

an impossible to exist figurehead, who dates Superman, and probably is evil overload over the super-kira. -_-…
Looking at how her character turned out to be, I couldn’t help but feel,
she has become the ultimate fabrication of how females should be in male fantasies. And Meer, adding the cute.sexy sides completes her. -_-…
Euphemia was way more flawed, and she did not have any powers, and she was frustrating at times, but she struggled like rest of us humans.

@everyone calling Euphie just a dreamer & useless…I admit the first time through Code Geass I didn’t like Euphie, but now that I’m rewatching it, she’s really growing on me. She WAS going to accomplish something–she had established the SAZ plan that would bring equality to the Japanese. She wasn’t commanding an army to fight for justice (that was Lelouch’s role) but she was still accomplishing things with her own power. Keep in mind too, that even for a princess she had little to no influence–people never took her seriously, but despite that she never gave up, she still kept trying to find a way for everyone to be happy. I find her to be the most tragic character in Geass actually; besides Nunnally, she’s probably the only purely “good” character, but she ends up hated by the very people she tried to help because of a misunderstanding. And Lelouch, who is indirectly responsible for her rampage (why was he joking about that anyway?) becomes the hero of the Japanese.

Actually, Lacus was able to pilot something. Aside from being the Captain of Eternal, she piloted the Infinite Justice. Though it’s shown she’s just sitting, one should know that an MS wouldn’t move without someone making it.

Euphemia was a princess so she could have power if she really wanted it and infact she did have even if it was less than that of Cornelia and Schneizel or Lelouch, but all along she used barely any of it if you haven’t noticed that. She wanted a peaceful world but sat there and let her sister tell her to stay back and just be a good girl who is subviceroy in name. Sure she got geassed so she couldn’t carry out her plan but even if she wasn’t geassed, her thing wouldn’t have worked. Japan wouldnt be a nation, it’d still be area 11 and the special administrative zone would just be a little area of land that hinders lelouch by loosing him support. She has a tragic character, but oh well and too bad; in real life, being good or idealistic doesn’t necessarily mean a happy ending-it just means those who have plans to carry out can use you which is why I say, why not grow a brain?
Now about Lacus, she and Euphemia are close in age, both around 16 but look what Lacus pulls off and what Euphemia pulls off. Like Euphemia, Lacus has power, only difference is as the daughter of the former chairman and the number one pop idol in the PLANTs and UNLIKE Euphemia, she uses it and she uses it well. She stopped two wars, has the Clyne Faction and she can pilot a mobile suit as shown in Destiny.
As for her Lacus being unreal, that’s not that true. She’s a coordinator so go figure a lot of her qualities are close to perfect. If she’s unreal then so is Yzak, Athrun, Dearka and every other coordinator in the story. Heck, even the extended pilots, particularly Stellar Loussier would be unreal.
Another thing, take note in Euphemia and Lacus’s names. Euphemia, Euphemism. She softens thing but her death in the story just simply symbolized that those who are soft cannot go past those who are willing ot be brutal. Lacus means lake but if you translate the Katakana differently, it comes out to be Lux, meaning light. Lacus was in some ways the light that conquered the chaos in GS and GSD.

Lacus is too perfect. Euphie had her flaws. The only reason Lacus is so perfect physically is because she’s a coordinator, and has many people helping her out because she was the daughter of the FORMER Plant supreme chairman. Both of them live in a time of war, but Euphie’s world was much more harsh and cruel. If Lelouch didn’t Geass her, than Euphie would have been able to help the Japanese practically on her own. Lacus, had literally hundreds of people to help her, and I’m sure Miriallia could have even piloted the Infinite Justice to the ship, if Kira helped her like he helped Lacus.

And Suzaku > Kira. After Freedom Kira had no character development at all. Suzaku is more complex person. And Suzaku at last has skill to support him ass knight, Kira only has beam-spam.

tell me where daydreaming will get you. people who plan and don’t do anything or do things without thinking of consequence won’t get anywhere. if euphie’s special administrative zone pulled through, it’ll just hinder world peace…because lelouch will loose support and when euphemia dies, somebody will just close the zone out of Britannia’s “national policy” of discrimination. that’s just how politics work.

I think it was obvious to every person in the royal family she’s too innocent and weak to ever take the throne…and resisting is natural as geass bends human will…when you try to bend plastic it has a certain resistence too.

Am I also fake? no. a mary sue type character is just a gifted character…they exist in real life too – just amongst the extremely lucky and most of the time hated by flawed commoners for being above them on the ladder.
