Bow before your new God, Gundam Jesus!

I really hate reading about communism especially when the text books from my History of the People’s Republic course were written by a communist hack and a worthless ultra left wanker. All commies are guilty, guilty of wasting my time. At any rate watching Gundam 00 is propaganda at its best its so God awful in its assessment of the geopolitical landscape in fact I’d say that Sunrise should be renamed the Ministry of Toy Whoring and Propaganda. As an avid reader of the Armchair General Magazine even Ralph Peter’s nihilistic outlook on the People’s Republic of China being the new USSR makes more sense than Sunrise… I know a mecha post on THAT blog? Oh yes!

snapshot20071009182658.jpg
The last hope for all of Kurdistan. Ah who are we kidding they suck all of them! Heck they are not even Kurds! The Kurds have more military sense than this. Who the hell fires 7.62 rounds to penetrate an armored vehicle? That isn’t a Japanese tank boys.

So in the future in in the 24th century Capitan Jean Luc Picard was not boldly going where no man has gone before. Instead Zefram Chochrane died in an alcohol binge and the Vulcans took one look at Earth and started a betting pool on how much longer humanity could last. Indeed even the Borg deemed humanity unworthy of assimilation or even extermination. Thus upon this bleak future which Sunrise gave birth to our rehash of what I suspect to be Gundam Wing will take place.

So in the the 24th century Kurdistan will have existed and Sunrise makes it no secret that they support child soldiers. The EU levels up and starts selling weapons to any one with cash without limits like a real super power. Also in a most shocking revelation the Irish have beaten out the Germans as the new corps d’elite in Europe. Then again only in war games. India, China, and Russia combine to form Voltron a super power. After all Japan is such a great power that they don’t need to ally with any one and since China and India are not and never will be rising super powers in their own right they were forced to join in some sort of Three Musketeers combo (rolls eyes). Sadly the popularity of Chinese architecture has led to the loss of Indian and Russian architectural styles… I guess Putin lost a Judo match to Hu Jintao.

snapshot20071009184210.jpg
Good grief give the US more credit we are replacing our Humvees with MRAPs. Let me guess its not even bullet proof…

Oh, the US is still there with solar power humvees, Ahnuld’s ‘ead in a jar must be proud. Sorry South Korea your kick ass marines with a 19:1 or better kill ratio in your favor just don’t get no love from MTWP.

Seriously Sunrise nary a mention of Africa or impending ascendancy of South Africa as a regional Super Power? Tsk tsk tsk… If you want to stand on the soap box, Africa makes the Middle East look like a border skirmish. Can a I get amen to decline of Nigeria? Also once again South America is totally forgotten, guess Hugo Chavez has yet to make a name for himself in Japan. Then again I have yet to see a Japanese national with a Che Guevarra t-shirt, even one made to promote capitalist products.

Another thing what is up with “the war to end all wars” bullshit I am hearing. Good grief Sunrise you don’t need to parade that idea around any more. Sure your ancestors fired nary a shot during the First World War in taking those isolated German colonies, but for everyone else it meant trench warfare and massive casualties. Perhaps your agents in the Ministry of Agriculture can wiki the Blackest Day on the Somme for you. Oh and don’t forget Verdun. By the way World War I did not end all wars that is why the “I” is there. No, the Siege of Tsingtao does not count because with 50,000 Japanese against 4,000 Germans and Austrians there was no reason you could have possibly lost. Besides how did the Germans lose only 200 while you lost 1,455?

snapshot20071009183525.jpg
Tis but a scratch!

Sunrise also shows its uncouth ignorance of Christianity, and penchant for the most unmanly of names. Hallelujah? Haptism? Setsuna? My goodness I hope the that Sunrise doesn’t start naming their kids this way, though I am told that there is at least one person in the world named Sephiroth…Also the Mobile Suit names are weak this time around, Exia, Virtue, Enact, Flag? They need to take a page from the Royal Navy, with such awesome and august names like Furious, Illustrious, Rodney, and King George V. Heck go one step to up the Kriegsmarine to Scharnhorst, Bismarck, or even Gneisenau.

Not to be outdone by a bunch of pilots the peanut gallery gets introduced and guess what…Dorthy is now Chinese and Releena is now in charge of OPEC Saudi Arabia or some Emirate, though I expect the Japanese to pigeon hole them in to the “Kingdom” category. Sumergia is the new motherly captain of their carrier. I was hoping for a change of pace with a hard ass old crusty captain prone to slapping his subordinates and declaring that his job is to kill terrorists, kill terrorists, and kill more terrorists.

snapshot20071009184055.jpg
R2-D2 is still cooler. At least he never had to actually use words. Besides he could defend himself, dodge blaster fire, and hack.

In any case a great start to a new whipping boy. I still think of Gundam the the greatest example of how every war story to come out of anime is a rehash of the Tale of Heike. Never mind the gross misinterpretation of war, its Gundam. We all know that Gundam really means God Understandably Never Did Admire Mecha. By the way that’s been trade marked.

Hey its not all bad they actually used some simple tactics this time. It beats charging in and pwning everything at least. I’ve been disappointed before so at least I am getting a good laugh out of this one.

Usually, I will say something really cynical about mecha and be flamed for it, but this post is way too awesome to spoil it with my badly constructed criticism of Gundam.

“We all know that Gundam really means God Understandably Never Did Admire Mecha.”

Win.

So I’m not the only person who was thinking “Come back! It’s only a flesh wound!” during that fight.

Dop added these pithy words on Oct 10 07 at 7:51 am

I like Gundam (I don’t take animes to seriously to begin with to start questioning their logics), but, your post is killing me XD. Ugh, I have to stop laughing before I dislocate my jaw.

Aine added these pithy words on Oct 10 07 at 10:31 am

Meh, the ravings of a dumb USian.

Karry added these pithy words on Oct 10 07 at 11:28 am

Pure win……

To be fair, the character themselves don’t take the “war to end all wars” very seriously (except the religious fanatics called celestial beings).

I am glad to know that I am not the only one who finds sunrise’s geopolitic of the 24th century is ridiculous.

“Armchair General Magazine”Let me guess….the armed forces journal?Knowing what he said about the ME, reading his thougts on China must be quite fun.

“Sunrise makes it no secret that they support child soldiers.”They never did!Remember Amuro,Kira or even better,Uso?Kids are the ultimate weapon.The younger the better.They make small targets,are fast,easy to hide and you can easily give them fanatical fervor.

Children are the army of the future.Give them mech and they will do wonders.

“God Understandably Never Did Admire Mecha.”
Gold.

Anyway, I am glad that you’re bloging gundam00.

ZeusIrae added these pithy words on Oct 10 07 at 11:37 am

Hey now, Crusader… you can still watch it for teh lulz… which is what I’m doing.

Kyokii added these pithy words on Oct 10 07 at 1:31 pm

@Impz
Does this mean I get a promotion?

@Dop
Monty Python and the Holy Grail is one of the greatest films ever, sadly these young people have such poor tastes these days…

@Aine
There is no logic at work here only MAADDDNESSS! Glad you found it funny.

@Karry
I guess poltical satire, black humor, and hokey relgions aren’t to your liking. I guess Gundam Jesus and Sephiroth weren’t a clear enough sign that this was supposed to be a joke. Duly noted.

@ZeusIrae
Yeah the 24th century isn’t what I had hoped for the future, not a Klingon in sight…

Armchair General is a private publication that is usually for history, but Ralph Peters is intelligent though he tends towards bold predictions. He was in Army Intelligence. While I know Military Intelligence sounds like an oxymoron he still served so I have to respect him for that, even if he is a bit crazy when advocating a pseudo state within a state military.

Truly youth is wasted on the young.

@Kyokii
Yep laughs all around.

“Gundam Jesus” is a great phrase. There totally should’ve been Gundam Jesus in G Gundam.

jpmeyer added these pithy words on Oct 10 07 at 5:30 pm

We already have a God Gundam, So Gundam Jesus would not be really a wrong idea… anyway. If we are looking at a Haro, u cant really say its useless as a r2d2, that thing is hard enough to take gunfire(took a shot for camille yet not a single scratch), knock over enemies and good enough as a co-pilot. They arnt push overs at + 2 to weapon range + 40 to agility + 40 to accuracy in SRW games for nothing. These things are more useful than a r2d2. Gundamium is nothing compared to the materials haros are made of. They should just make gundams out of haros

shia added these pithy words on Oct 10 07 at 6:54 pm

“Tis but a scratch!”

That fits it so much.

Ack!Who says that young people have no taste? This coming from a under 16-year-old, I love Monty Python! And I faithfully read this blog. Do I have bad taste?

Young Person added these pithy words on Oct 10 07 at 7:26 pm

@Crusader: Sadly, you are conscripted to be a corporal all your life. There is no escape unless you worship to Gundam Jesus. He will dispatch you in a very peaceful manner (which means, it will simply beam you to stupidity).

@_@;;;

Impz added these pithy words on Oct 10 07 at 8:00 pm

Crusader you need to find a nice shot of Gundam about to take out an enemy and caption it, “I fart in your general direction.” ^-^

And I’m sure if you declare your undying love of green haired loli’s Impz will most definitely promote you.

@Young Person, you like Monty Python, therefore you have great taste.

The big Orange Haru looks very menancing, its really an atom bomb in disguise isn’t it?

Bet the Klingons won the betting pool… ^-^

D.J added these pithy words on Oct 10 07 at 8:08 pm

@Young person: If you read Crusader’s entries, you are fine. if you read my entries and enjoy it, you are fricking bonked out. Stop taking drugs!

^+^ ho ho ho~

Impz added these pithy words on Oct 10 07 at 11:41 pm

I think equally bad propraganda is Blood+. Actually, I hate that even more cause even though it’s supposed to be anti-war no one was really a pacifist in Blood+. At least with a Mecha show they have an excuse to not be peaceful (seeing if they are, we wouldn’t see Mecha to begin with).

I thought of Monty Python too when I saw that scene, especially when that guy kept saying something along the line of, “YOU CAN’T DEFEAT ME!!!!” after his arm is cut off.

Haro are more useful than you are giving them credits for. But on that account I think someone else made a good response already so I am not going to repeat.

I am surprised you haven’t brought this up, but I have NEVER in my life saw any Chinese girls with those cutsy buns. Why do they always give buns to Chinese girls?!

If I remember correctly… wasn’t Japan part of the union with USA? I am pretty sure they are but I am too lazy to find out for sure.

PS. Apparently those awful names for the pilots are code names and not their real names. Thank God (and by God I don’t mean Gundam Jesus lol).

Ori added these pithy words on Oct 10 07 at 11:58 pm

I’d love to see a Gundam Pope or errrr…Pope gundam? hehehe.

Hey, I’ll be looking forward for episode 2 on this one. thanks!

rollchan added these pithy words on Oct 11 07 at 1:06 am

Gundam Exia is totally rocking!!

zenical added these pithy words on Oct 11 07 at 2:28 am

@jpmeyer and rollchan
Gundam Jesus will soon be joined by Gundam Marx…

@shia
Not sure of SRW is canon though, but still I met R2-D2 first as a kid so he gets numerous nostalgia points. Besides even in Episode I he was still the same spunky little droid. Haro on the other hand got mass produced and has no personality…or a 3PO to pick on.

@Young Person
You are wiser than your peers. At least you have heard of the Trojan Bunny.

@D.J
I would prefer one with a bunny or a haggard old man I can call Tim. Better yet I need a holy hand grenade screen cap.

The Klingons finished off humanity and claimed their prize of many barrels of Blood Wine.

@ori
Ah if only Enact was painted black. Patrick truly dos not move for no man…

As for the qipao and ox horns, I have never seen them either, but I suppose it’s important to dream about seeing them. ;)

@zenical
You mean Gundam Jesus, right? ;)

Crusader added these pithy words on Oct 11 07 at 3:26 am

i think of it like this… if a japanese cartoon can spark such enthusiasm in ‘bashing’ the cartoons ’suppose’ unrealistic ideals then its a good show because then there is a chance that people who saw it won’t make the same mistakes in the future…

other wise i never understood the why get work up on something u don’t like…

even so this was a good read

Tenryu added these pithy words on Oct 11 07 at 6:40 am

@Crusader-sama: and…Gundam Stalin, Gundam Hitler, Gundam Castro, etc, etc, etc.

hehehe!

rollchan added these pithy words on Oct 11 07 at 7:42 am

ohh….i4got Gundam Saddam (RIH). =)

rollchan added these pithy words on Oct 11 07 at 7:43 am

…It’s when people start spewing Monty Python that I stutter to an almost ORZ at the lack of its knowledge…

…Or maybe I should watch it for teh lulz. Besides, I lost you after Monty. I got the rest of your diatribe.

…Perhaps I should let in the groove and hear my argument THAT THE NAME MARINA ISMAIL SOUNDS MALAYSIAN TO ME!

TP added these pithy words on Oct 11 07 at 9:14 am

@Tenryu
I think of watching Gundam 00 akin to watching Plan 9 from Outer Space. It is so bad that you can’t just help but watch and mock it.

Impz put me on quota system so I have to post something.

Glad you enjoyed.

@rollchan
Nah, no people only deities and Marx is the God of Communism, Make that Comrade God of Communism…

@TP
Go youtube Monty Python and the Holy Grail for a lot of great stuff. However do make it a priority to see that movie!

Maybe she’s Malaysian then if so she must be the new owner of the Petronas Tower.

Crusader added these pithy words on Oct 11 07 at 6:31 pm

@Crusader: hahaha! alright! =D

rollchan added these pithy words on Oct 12 07 at 9:10 am

I suspect Africa hasn’t been mentioned yet because its not a super power in this world. They are probably still steeped in conflict and I think we’ll see Celestial Being take on some missions there.

What surprises me is that South America IS, apparently, united under one government. On the other hand, these major groups could be more like loose alliances (like EU of today) rather than single large nations. China, India, and Russia could still exist as nations and may have simply formed an alliance for some reason or another rather than merged and formed a single country. Episode 2 has Sri Lanka as part of the HRA, but they are (still) in a state of civil war with the HRA supporting one side.

“God Understandably Never Did Admire Mecha”
Lol… how long did you take to come up with that?

I thought i was watching full metal panic - the second raid for awhile when watching the opening fight scene.

rOninZz added these pithy words on Oct 14 07 at 8:41 am

They might be able to salvage this show. All they need to do is to give one of the character the HHG, also known as the Holy Hand Grenade (with the ritual and everything)

Som1 added these pithy words on Oct 20 07 at 12:10 pm

ismail is a typical name for people with islamic backgrounds..

you can find it in the middle east, as well as central asia - the persian-influenced ones - not the ones w/ mostly russianized (i know that’s not a word ^^;;) names….

and although I’m not muslim (but still have a close-enough connection w/ them), Ismail sounds like its also referencing ismaili muslims (who are shiite, but considered to be more superstitious or something, than just the shiites or the sunnis.

I’m not exactly sure, but its around those reasons. People can read up on it, lol
