THAT Contest: Well there is always next year…

motivator3055917.jpg

I guess this proves that the average otaku is not the history buff type, and perhaps our Nerdy doctrine is an island onto itself. Well thus ends the first contest I have financed, and all the winners shall be contacted shortly so congratulations to those who dared, for you have won.

Halcyontwilight came in first place narrowly beating out abao claiming 7 volumes. Abao came damned near close and his efforts will be rewarded with 5 volumes or 50 USD of schwag. John and Peter were the only other takers with full tank identifications so they walk away with three volumes or a 30 USD equivalent. So comrades do check your e-mails for correspondence so I can know what you want and where to send it.

Here is a little interesting piece for all of you. While the Panther was classified was a medium tank it was a full 15 tons heavier than a T-34. The Panther was initially crewed by the rejects of every armored division in Heer since they asked every divisional commander to give them some crews for training. Naturally many division commanders were more than happy to get rid of some troublesome under performers. After numerous and critical delays roughly 200 Panzer Vs were ready for action at Kursk, as far as I can tell they followed the famed Grossdeutchland Division through out the battle like lost puppies. The commander of the GD had no idea what to do with them, and apparently the Panther crews did not know what to do either since tactical training was skipped. Lastly do not be so hard on the Panzer III since the three man turret was it’s most important contribution to German tank development. The introduction of the three man turret allowed the tank commander to focus on commanding the tank without having to load and or fire the gun in addition to run his vehicle.

As for the infamous and feared Tiger I four more Sturmgeschutz IIIs with a more elite crews of skilled dead eyed artillery men would have made more of a difference for the Germans.

Since those who dared were fewer than I had hoped, next year’s contest will probably be more otaku-ish in nature.

Yea, this really wasn’t a contest i expected on a anime blog. But it was still an interesting one, if I may say so myself. I guess it just went over the heads to too many people who read the blog.

Considered, but due to lack of reference materials, I ditched the effort.

Do infantry weapons next year. Maybe you’ll get more people.

    Well, its Division Grossdeutschland, Sturmgeschuetz.

The German Army used 250 (200 were in the Division Grossdeutschland) and well they lost 80 % to technical difficulties.

The Germans would have lost any way.
