It is beautiful. It is a pity though that I did not watch it on HD, which will make the experience better. I can safely say that it is the one show that I might have a decent shot at blogging, considering the lack of interest on it. ^^

I guess the thing is that Mari is suffering from a mental trauma 5 years after an event (no clue what it is other than that she lost her parents there). Moreover, it is also noted that the only person that she feels any love for, her grandmother, is finally "abandoning her". The truth is that it is perhaps quite a sad mood, and can affect people who are feeling happy. *pats David*.

i felt that it is really a very interesting mix where the grandmother sent Mari away so that Mari will not have to see her grandmother die in front of her. it is better to make Mari hate her, rather than make her feel completely alone. I guess that is why.

The alien thing is a little queer for me right now but the other elements of the show is good. There is little doubt i will at least pick up the second episode of this. ^^

The first ep of Blue Drop gave a very depressing mood and a bad taste afterwards. Especially if at the moment you're in a positive mood and then are presented a girl like Mari. Other than my personal emotions that I went through while watching this episode, I think Blue Drop is a decent show. That alien theme throws it a bit off....but then again it's the only factor that can make the show interesting.

@Kabitzin: Yes, sire. It is definitely true that slice of life characters make or break the genre. I am not saying that I am the best judge of anything. In fact, I am very likely to be the worst judge of quality, considering everyone said sketch book was great, and blue drop is downright emo crap. Nevertheless, I do hold firm that Sora just freaking annoys me. They got to make someone else the lead other than this....freak.

@TP: arrr, I believe the art style of sketchbook is extremely nice. It's pleasing to the eye, decent animation quality, and there's hardly anything to complain about it except...Well, let me stop complaining. It is shoujo-ai by the way, unless I am mistaken.

@Anne: Ya, I do not deny that the character is emo, but she does have some spunk in her. It is going to be rather interesting, and it's clear that she is not that good at dealing with people, hence her rather emo side. She also feels that she is abandoned too, so ya. Just watch it, see if you can like the show or not ^^

This is the first good review I have seen for Blue Drop. Not that I doubt you, but most complain the lead is too emo. I guess I'll see.

I think the more appropriate description for Sketch Book would be "Yoshizaki Mine-esque". Art style, that is.

And, er, since Simoun-Fans are going to sub Blue Drop, am I hinting at "shoujo-ai" smackerings here?

You make such a good point about slice of life characaters, and I was nodding emphatically about Tenma's annoyingness turning me off of School Rumble. I never knew any one else felt that way!
