Even though bright orange eyes aren’t normally a color I like, I can’t help but notice that it looks very becoming on Kazuma.

Because of the lack in time, I have taken a lot less screenshots than I used to. If this is sufficient, I’ll probably be going this route instead of getting so many screenshots.

So, we finally get to see Kazuma as we have never seen him before: strong, crazily angry, and completely callous. Dark Kazuma has the bright orange eyes of a demon, and winds that looked black, instead of the normal white winds. In fact, he looks a lot like the berserk, demonic wind user we saw in episode 2.

There is very little interaction between Ayano and Kazuma this week, which is somewhat a pity. However, there are some revelations as to how others see the relationship between Ayano and Kazuma. Perhaps the saying of how Ayano is Kazuma’s only hope has more than a little truth in it.

Summary

Ayano looks so sad. I don’t think there’s anything more sad than seeing a normally headstrong and cheerful girl gets so down.

Following the flashback with Kazuma screaming to the moon and turning orange-eyed berserk, Kirika, Ayano and Ren could not find Kazuma anywhere, not even at his hotel. Ayano has an inkling of forbearing, for she knows that Kazuma’s disappearance is due to his “reunion

it’s Inuyasha all over again- sigh.. I feel for Ayano like I feel for Kagome. And I agree, the only way is to go forward, one cannot get the same measure of love from another, it’s either more and less but it is love too.

I hope there is some Ayano Kazuma interaction of some sort next episode and i agree with danie…I’m getting this Inuyasha vibe out of all this.

I think it is actually Kazuma who has had a much bigger effect on Ayano than the opposite. We never saw that dark, vengeful Kazuma who Kirika describes until this episode that is. Even in the beginning of the series he was sarcastic, calm and collected and able to think things through with a clear head. His personality has not really changed much throughout the show, so I do not think Ayano really had that big of an effect on him.

Now look at Ayano in the beginning of the series - she was bratty and immature and extremely spoiled and always rushed head first into her fights with the mentality - “fight first, ask questions later”. Now she is much more mature and calm and actually thinks during her battles. It’s all because finally someone appeared who not only challenged her but completely overpowered her and gradually he became a mentor to her both physically(in battle) and mentally. Remember the speech he gave her in episode 4 about death and all and later how he allowed her to participate even though he could finish the fight on his own.

So now, I think Ayano who has been changed so much because of Kazuma is going to reciprocate that help she obtained and bring him back to his senses. I think she can do it only because she matured throughout the series and grew to understand him. The old Ayano would probably rush head-on and try to fight Kazuma and lose miserably, while the new Ayano has a chance.

I’m sorry if I misunderstood you, but you almost make it sound like Kazuma was some sort of heartless jerk in the beginning of the show and Ayano has changed him for the better, while I think it is actually the opposite. Kazuma saved Ayano’s life many times in the past and now it’s her turn to save him from himself.

Oh, and also on the issue of Inuyasha and unrequited love, I agree that there is a huge similarity with Kazuma’s case, but give the guys a break. I mean, both of them lost someone very important and precious to them in the past - someone whom they loved from all their hearts and when they see that person back to life again, of course they are going to be confused and overflown with emotions. I guess what I’m trying to say is don’t blame Kazuma and feel sorry for Ayano, I mean they are not even in an official relationship yet. Of course Kazuma is going to feel more towards Rin, and if Ayano truly loves him she should get over her disappointment and save him selflessly. Maybe then he will be able to realize his feelings for her as well.

I think what cause Kazuma to change after 4 years is he finally got revenge in killing Vernhart boss like he mention in episode 19, anything else about how he defeated his father, met Ren and Ayano wouldn’t mean a damn thing if he didn’t get his revenge first. He only becomes a bit nicer after he got his revenge, I can just imagine he still the same cruel, evil looking Wind user he is now if he didn’t have his revenge, only after he got his revenge did he open up his heart and give room for his father, ayano, and ren. Without his revenge he probably just cast all of them aside like nothing, which we can actually see now in these last few episodes, he doesn’t talk to any of them, contact them in anyway he just does whatever he please to find Vernhart, that show me none of them means anything to Kazuma compare to getting his revenge and finding Lapis/Rin.

In this ep it suggests that the moment that kazuma’s eyes turn orange suggests that he like using something equal to the contractor’s blue eye, in which this time he doesn’t need any time to cast it. In the ep it also the purple lighting spark just before izumi chants her spell is probably a spell casted by kudo to lead her to him which was blocked by izumi’s protective barrier before it was destoryed.

Thanks Briar for the wonderful summary. I have to say that I am a little bit disappointed with this episode. For some reason I thought this episode was predictable as well as what can happen in the following episodes. I guess I just wanted some more action and less talking, which made the episode a bit too slow. Still I can’t wait to see what happens, and how Kazuma will be saved. Again, thanks Briar for the summary, I really enjoyed it !!

This episode really does make me feel for Ayano. Like you, I hope that she will be the one who is able to snap Kazuma out of his “berserk” mode in the coming episodes - That certainly would create a chance for them to bring their relationship to a deeper level. Hopefully, after this whole event with the fake Tsuo Rin, Kazuma will finally be able to move on. He should then embrace the present, or more specifically, Ayano ^^.

The tension is building up! I dont like how the series seems to be leading towards AyanoxKazuma though

Thanks Briar for the episode summary.

Well, the series has always been leading towards AyanoxKazuma (and typical of this, there is always an arc where the protagonist faces his past, perhaps going berserk in the process, and later be rescued by the other lead character).

I believe that this series will eventually end up with said pairing (even though many are rooting for a reunion between Kazuma and Tsuo Rin) or perhaps keeping the relationship between Ayano and Kazuma as status quo (ie very good partners, crushes or maybe even best friends). Tsuo Rin, sadly, belongs to the past, and Kazuma is set to conquer that past (with the help of Ayano and maybe even Ren to some extent, I think).

Yes, I do agree with Darklord that it’s now Ayano’s turn to save Kazuma from himself after being rescued by Kazuma multiple times, and that the new Ayano will have a better chance of fighting and winning Kazuma, as compared to her immature, hot-headed, younger self. I guess it will be sooner or later that Ayano and Kazuma exchange blows, and I am really looking forward to that. If this does come through, it will definitely bring their relationship to a higher level.

I’m actually quite afraid of the berserker Kazuma as he is now. Kazuma used to be the more calculative and rational character (as compared to Ayano, who always charged into situations without thinking). His behaviour now is very unpredictable (except for the fact that he is going after Vernhart and Lapis), attacking even his allies in the course of his pursuit for the enemy. I actually felt sorry for Katherine, irritating as she is, being attacked and knocked out by her crush.

I wonder what will happen to Kazuma after he is stopped/rescued from himself, so to speak. He did cause a lot of problems/casualties. Will he feel guilt over harming innocent people? (Will Ayano be there for him or do anything to relieve him of his pain?) Just a thought.

*By the way, I’m still curious over his red/orange glowing eyes, especially when they suddenly flash (like when Kazuma sees Nanase). Can anyone enlighten me? Was this in the novel/manga?

@Briar: I completely agree with both Tom and Darklord, it wasnt Ayano who changed him, i mean was Kazuma a shinigami like mode at first? No he wasnt, he changed back to his normal self because he has finally avenged Tsou Rin, that was all there is to it. Ayano did not have any impact on Kazuma, except the Misao arc ending ep. when Ayano told him to rely on others and not take everything on his shoulders. Notice that the Kazuma at the start and especially Misao’s arc wants to save everyone and that his Contractor powers would allow him to do that. So i agree that it is the other way around that it was Kazuma that influenced Ayano, i cant even begin to mention how much things he said that changed her, i mean he is the main character of the show, also the biggest reason why the audience watched this show.

Also about your comment that Kazuma could not cast a protective barrier like Izumi, um did you forget when Misao not only stabbed Kazuma, but shot and bombed him like crazy? Also slapped him a couple of fire shots, but Kazuma was left unscathed. He is a contractor, so casting barriers like that is quite easy and cinch for him.

Another thing, i dont mind and blame Kazuma for being ruthless, i mean he just found out that his lover’s image is being stained and tainted by using it in a doll and use it against him. If you were in his shoes, can you actually just calm down and be rational about it? Wouldn’t you get pissed off and do everything you can to kill him? If i were in his shoes, in that pandemonium in ep.20, i would just rush to Vernheart and kill him ruthlessly. He frikin deserves it, for doing such a sick method to Kazuma.

I never thought Kazuma was a jerk, i mean if anything because of his ways, it changed Ayano quite well, since you cant get through someone with a superiority complex like Ayano without jerking her around, that i can assure you. People with that kind of attitude wont change or you cannot influence them unless you yourself are far superior than them, and can prove that, this was Kazuma’s case.

About your comment that you think that those two didnt die, um remember when Kirika, Ayano, and Ren arrived in the crime scene? There was a trace of the body, which they only do when it is identified as deceased. So i am pretty positive they died, and good riddance.

On a side not, since I myself am not that interested in Ayano waking Kazuma up, since he simply loses the will to fight, i wont go in too much details. The one i’m very interested in is what Vernheart talked about with Lapis, about Lapis being capable of thoughts and feelings.

Isn’t anyone interested on what the guy is scheming? Instead of trying to keep Lapis from becoming more humane, like instead of not letting her remember or recall memories of Tsou Rin and her feelings for Kazuma so she wouldn’t hesitate in battle and stay ruthless. He wants Lapis to stay and even seems to want her to grow forth feelings like worrying, so in my speculation, he wants Lapis to fully recover all of Tsou Rin’s memories and feelings for Kazuma. So basically he wants her to become like Tsou Rin, with emotions, instead of just a cold and uncaring doll.

Well we all know why he wants to do this, if anyone can notice in ep.20 when Kazuma stopped Ayano from delivering the final blow to Lapis, the dam guy smirked! I believe that it is his plan all along, after seeing this episode that is, since before i just thought that he used her image so that Kazuma would hesitate. Though this backfire because obviously, Lapis is very different to Tsou Rin, more precise would be that she is completely opposite of her. So by making Lapis exactly like Tsou Rin, would make her the best weapon against Kazuma, both his Shinigami like self and his contractor one, or whether it’s Kazuma Kannagi or Kazuma Yagami, since she was his everything. If this was the case, man it would be quite interesting, to see how Kazuma would deal with it.

I agree that it was Ayano who changed because of Kazuma and not the other way or around. But… I think that Ayano did have some effect on Kazuma. Ayano and Kazuma spent a lot of time together and they got to know each other. As you can see in a lot of the episodes that Kazuma had a lot fun and laughed fun being with Ayano. It’s kind of sad that to Kazuma, she doesn’t mean a anything. Can’t wait for more episodes to come out! Hopefully, Ayano will be able to win his heart against Tsou Rin.

Honestly prefer this darker kazuma. Those pandemonium users well, just kinda deserve dying.katherine asked for that thrashing, Kazuma let her go. She attacked him first, everyone knows that katherine doesn’t stand a chance against kazuma. (even herself) She should have just let him go, but noooooooooo she had to attack him and asked for the thrashing she received.

Voting for a TsuoRin X Kazuma ending. Lapis was created from the thoughts and feelings from TsuoRin before she died right? Isn’t possible that she the feelings TsuoRin holds for kazuma there? I mean Kazuma definitely didn’t forget her… Though i seriously doubt it will end that way. (but i still hope)
