I am interested in seeing the finished one, though i know i am very much behind in episodes. It is interesting that you noted that the best leader would be Rossiu supporting Simon, because the biggest problem i had with Rossiu was his lack of loyalty to Simon, who though right now seemed to have done nothing notable, is still responsible for the freedom of Humans. When Rossiu's subordinate said that Simon and the government are doing nothing, i expected Rossiu to at least defend Simon, his lack of loyalty makes it hard to see him as a good leader, because evantualy all things will be to please his own ego, and not for the good of those around him.

I was trying to see Rossiu's eyes, and i imagined that if i were him, and panicking about the population crisis, I would be thinking, very slightly of course, whether defeating the spiral king and usurping the old system was a good idea, and whether it wouldn't be better to instigate a new system to prevent the population from reaching one million. i believe left to his own devices, Rossiu would do just that, and become essentially the Spiral King's replacement, that is why i favor Simon's forward looking leadership

Cheryl: I need to watch the latest episodes of Gurren Lagann. I'm only up to 18, and unless I watch more I don't think there's much for me to add more.

I haven't seen Pirates of the Carribean 3 yet, so I have no idea who you're referring to >.>

...Oookaaaayy, Lupus, we need you to write another article like this to strengthen our beliefs that Rossiu ain't going nutcase bonkers. Coupled with my guess that the person next to Simon in episode 1 isn't Rossiu (the eyebrows, man!) I'm imagining him dying Cutlett Beckett style (if you watched PotC3) T__T;;

Hige: Not sure I like him either, but I can understand where he's coming from. I think it's just a matter of time before he becomes likeable though.

Kaei: Nothing like Gendou. Gendou was messed up from the beginning, and he never cared about anyone other than Yui and himself, to the extent of neglecting even his own son.

RandomVisitor: I'm not sure there's much I can contribute to Wikipedia, where you're supposed to find facts, while almost all of what I write are opinions.

Thank you for taking the time to comment though, and I'm glad you like what you find here. It's comments like yours that give me the energy and desire to blog =)

First of all, I'd be interested in hearing about your compare and contrast of the four characters, but I have a thing against handing out my email on the Internet, so I suppose my curiosity shall have to remain unfulfilled :)

I've only recently started watching Gurren Lagann, so.. yeah, I dismissed it as just another mecha shounen series (*hits self on head for shameless prejudice*), how embarrassing that it turns out to be this good.. but, well, it is Gainax, so perhaps I shouldn't be too surprised. I don't think we're meant to like Rossiu because like you say, this is Simon's story, but there's no denying he's more of a pragmatist.

Anyway, the reason I'm writing this comment: wikipedia. If there's no english article there at the moment, why don't you create one? It is in the spirit of wikipedia after all. I apologise if it's rude to ask, but this is the first I'd even heard about it. I'd almost forgotten what it was like to start researching something on Google instead of starting at Wikipedia. At least you could give us a pin-yin translation of the title of the chinese wikipedia article?

Interesting blog anyway, I'm one of those silent readers that very rarely comments on anything, but nevertheless we are still out here reading the blog, and I look forward to reading more.

Glad to see someone else doesn't antagonize Rossiu! He's sorta an oddball in the Gurren Lagann universe since he has a level head but his methods are understandable.. The conflict reminds me sorta of Code Geass, since both potragonists have in a way, the same goal (in Geass' case, freeing Japan) but different methods of execution, making people question whose way is the "right" one, except in Gurren Lagann I think the gap's kinda wider since Simon's all positive thinking XD;; I'd love to read the rest of your post, er, do you need me to give my e-mail or can you obtain it from the commentor information? XD;;

Like the poster above, I'm relieved that someone takes Rossiu's side. FOR THE GREATER GOOD, like Dumbledore says, and all that. I'm getting vibes of a young Gendou, but hopefully it's just me overthinking the similarities to other Gainax works.

I'm glad someone's taking Rossiu's side. He interests me a lot as a character... not sure I *like* his adult personality, but it makes a lot of sense and offers some unexpected conflict for the future. Gurren Lagann once again takes another big risk and pulls it off. Love it to bits.

Very interesting. I agree that from a macro point of view, Rossiu is right. Governance is never about the micro level anyway. But figureheads are still important to let the people think the government cares for them, thus Simon fits the bill.
