Zombie Loan Episode 3: Dead Man’s Tongue

zl-3-screenshot-1.jpg

The poor girl… This week has Michiru being bullied and molested, although at least she isn’t dying. Nothing much happen otherwise, although I can see the setting up for something big (or at least bigger) in the near future.

Summary

zl-3-screenshot-2.jpg

(Please note that I decipher most Japanese names when watching the anime, so they aren’t the official names and there are likely to contain mistakes.)

Michiru is in school, and she sees Yumi, who is alright after the ordeal last episode. Another friend comes up to her and asks her to buy back lunch, but Michiru boosts her courage and refuses politely. Her friends shrug and accept it. Yumi is even in approval. Michiru is touched and begins to get a little teary.

Cut to Michiru and her luggage, standing on the streets looking up at the Zombie Loan office. When she enters the office, she meets again with Meko Watashimori and Yuuta, and realizes that Yuuta is also a zombie (with imaginary finger-pet-friends), although Watashimori is not. Chika and Shito then arrive, bringing along a girl who they say will help her find a place to stay. After Michiru leaves the room with the little girl, Chika and Shito talks to Watashimori about the nurse-sensei last episode, who was talking about a contract with somebody to become a zombie. Watashimori concludes that there is someone out there who is illegally making zombies. Chika and Shito are extremely willing to stop whoever it is who is playing with life.

Michiru then goes with the little girl in a limo-ish car. The little girl plays a detective-finds-the-serial-killer sort of game on her laptop, and Michiru recognizes it immediately. The little girl then seems to be having trouble with the game, and Michiru tells her how to proceed, giving away the culprit accidentally. Instead of being angry (like I would be for being spoilt) though, the girl instead blushes and replies to Michiru’s self introduction with a long, complex, very formal self-intro of her own. She is Chiki (?), the CEO of the Black Feather Association (?). She would be finding Michiru a place to stay.

They arrive at the place, which is very old, rundown, and in disrepair. They meet Koyomi , and she brings Michiru to dark, sparse, broken-down room that has an excellent view to the cemetery.

Cut to a brief flash of a view of the city skyline, and a woman saying fearfully, “Help me!

I’m a Chika x Michiru shipper, haha. ;) I think they’re so cute together, or maybe the ‘bullying’ you mentioned, for me, is just them being comfortable. Lol.

“Dead Man’s Tongue” is what Yomi’s ability is called. :)

After Michiru leaves the room with the little girl, Chika and Shito talks to Watashimori about the nurse-sensei last episode, who was talking about a contract with somebody to become a zombie. In last week’s review, you said that the series looked like it was going to be a monster of the week type of show. I didn’t say anything then because I didn’t want to give away spoilers. But now you can see that those two episodes were the beginning of a bigger story arc about dead people who are tricked into believing that they have Zombie-Loan style contracts allowing them to remain alive beyond their appointed death time.

Like Totali said, “Dead Man’s Tongue” is the name of Yomi’s ability just like “Shinigami Eyes” is the name of Michiru’s ability.

There are less hints of romance this episode, although honestly, I’m beginning to wonder if I misread the signs last two episodes.
*sighs* That’s because all the neat cute romance-hinting scenes were cut from the episode. *sighs again*

This time the scenes were all Shito x Michiru. The first one should have come right after Michiru refused to buy lunch for her friends. She ends up having lunch outside with the boys. Since Michiru isn’t living at home anymore and has no money to spare, she’s found some free out-of-date food to eat. She and Chika begin discussing good places to find cheap or free food. Shito interrupts them and offers Michiru some of his lunch because “girls need plenty of protein in order to give birth to healthy babies”. (Michiru: But I’m not pregnant.)

The next omitted scene (actually a changed scene) was the lead in to the boys discovering that Michiru met Yomi. Michiru and Shito are eating lunch while watching Chika play soccer. Chika hits the ball out of bounds, and it heads toward Michiru at rocket speed. Shito leaps up and over and kicks the ball back into the game, rescuing Michiru from certain soccer death. (Or at least a very bad bruising.) Cue the heartfelt fangirl sighs. Until … Shito yells at Chika telling him to be more careful or he’ll ruin their lunch. (Michiru: Lunch is that important to you?! Chika: Of course it is, save me some, okay?) Afterwards Michiru mutters something about Yomi wondering who or what she is and that’s how the boys learn she knows about Yomi.

We also now know that Chika and Shito can be apart, although we wouldn’t know for how long. Chika, after all, goes off to his part time job himself (with Michiru, anyway). They don’t have to always be together
The show cut a scene related to this issue. I don’t know if I should tell you about it in case it’s included or explained in a later episode. Let me know if you want to know.

Thanks for the review. I love hearing other people’s thoughts on the show. :)

The title was harder to interpret because the Japanese doesn’t say dead “man’s” tongue, but dead “person’s” tongue. The person in this case being the woman who screamed “help me!” and was then in the pool of blood.

This episode actually made me more hopeful about this show, since “monster of the week” is the genre I may like least. I enjoyed the new characters, and I continue to just love the voice-acting.

    Yay yay…

We see Shinku in action in this episode!

It only gets better from here on out… the plot thickens.

I like the new guy, Shiba! ^^; First Shito and Chika and now Shiba? Episode two was a bit…blah…for me, for some reason, but this one just got me interested again. I just saw it and am off to blog about it!

And I have to agree with you on the Chika-Michiru thing. Perhaps I misread the signs too. O_o, XD

@ Mintie and Fang-tan: I’m really not sure about Chika x Michiru this episode. He treats her like a bully treats the smallest and runt-est of his gang. Or like an elder brother towards his sister. :D Not so romantic, I think. At least not to me. :)

@ Totali and hashihime: Thanks for the clarification! :) I must be sleeping through the anime to missed the whole Dead Person’s Tongue ability-name thing.

@ LKK: Thanks for telling me (us) the missing scenes! I would LOVE to see them animated. It’s sad that I don’t get the chance, but on the other hand, since I’m more a Chika x Michiru shipper… :D

I think if they include those scenes it would help build up Shito’s character a lot more. Not to mention the dialogue you mentioned seems to be hilarious.

Regarding the scene they cut off of Chika and Shito being apart, I think I’ll wait for the anime to reveal it. :) Thanks for the offer, LKK!

@ Kyokii: Eh… who is Shinku? Although I agree that it has a lot of potential to getting better each episode.

@ Xerox: Regarding Chika and Michiru, maybe they are throwing us a red herring. Heck, maybe Totali and Fang-tan are right in that they are “hitting is caring, scolding is loving”. ie. Chika is retaining his 12 year old self in showing love by being mean to his sweetheart. LOL…

@ Briar: Shimotsuki… the little director loli… it’s my nickname for her since she resembles Shinku.
