This week’s episode introduces another female warrior, Trish, who is apparently the heroine of the game Devil May Cry 1. Two female warriors = Catfight. Yes, we are treated to a rivalry between two women, which consists of anything from physical fistfights, thunder and cannons, firepower and gunpowder, as well as outright clothing war. In fact, the amount of action in this episode rivals and eclipses all the other episodes added together. I’m not sure whether to say “Yay for female power

Quick Book WebLog » Blog Archive » Keiji Inafune on why Devil May Cry 4 went multiplatform - Xbox 360 ... added these pithy words on Jul 27 07 at 12:30 pmI’ve been reviewing this series on my own blog. I haven’t seen this one yet. I’m glad this episode was better than the last. I hope the episode quality continues to improve, because so far I haven’t been all that impressed.

I do think that it’s better than episode 3, although not exactly vastly better. In the end, Devil May Cry is pretty much just an exclusively eye candy anime. There isn’t much depth so far, and I doubt it will ever develop into anything like, say, Ghost Hunt. Still, it does have a certain appeal; if nothing else, it is so enjoyable to make fun of it. ![]()
That was a very interesting review :). I’m liking the anime so far. Sure it lacks depth, but it was never supposed to be deep, the animators stated from the very beginning that the anime was just going to portray Dante’s everyday life after DMC1 (DMC3 is a prequel, and Capcom is trying to ignore DMC2 because fans hated it). And the eye-candy is fabulous.
In particular, I *loved* this episode. Trish is my favourite DMC girl, I’ve been waiting for her return in DMC canon for *years* since I beat DMC1 (Trish has appeared alongside Dante in two other games since then, but neither were DMC canon so they don’t really count). And watching her meet Lady for the first time was indeed very enjoyable
Speaking of Lady, the portable cannon with an axe affixed to the month is her trademark weapon, the Kalina Ann.
Lady’s father was a human obsessed with demons, so much that he murdered his own wife, Kalina Ann, using her as a human sacrifice in a demonic ritual to turn himself into a demon. Lady swore to kill him to avenge her mother, and to remind herself never to give up she etched her mother’s name onto the handle of her weapon, naming it Kalina Ann. She also renounced her real name, Mary, to start a new life with a new name that Dante gave her, Lady.
My one complaint is that Dante is kinda OOC. He is not supposed to be so serious and cold, he is not supposed to have dry wit. In the games (except DMC2, which was a huge failure and nearly doomed the series), Dante is dorky, chatty, and loves saying *really* cheesy lines. I hope the English dubbing will make him more easy-going.
I’m happy with the preview of the next episode. It seems like Dante is finally going to Devil Trigger! About time ^_^. I wonder what shape he’ll take, when he transforms into a demon he takes different shapes depending on his age and the weapon he uses… I hope it will be a cool looking winged monster
Now, if only Vergil (Dante’s evil twin) made at least a cameo, I’d be truly overjoyed. I don’t believe for a second he died in DMC1, there was no corpse left. Just a cameo is not asking too much, isn’t it?

Jane added these pithy words on Jul 11 07 at 12:11 pmLOL Jane, it’s fine; it’s always better to have someone comment rather than to have no one, and seriously, the longer your post is the more flattered I am.
Thanks for providing the background; I didn’t know that DMC anime is set after the events of DMC 1, nor do I know Lady’s background and etc. I too enjoy Lady’s meeting with Trish. In fact, from what I’ve seen this episode, Trish may possibly be my favourite character so far.
It’s too bad that I wouldn’t get to see a dorky chatty Dante. He sounds really interesting. I was under the impression that he was supposed to be ultra cool in the games, which is why I thought I saw some complains about his eating habits (strawberry sundaes, no olives on pizza) detracting that coolness from him. IMO, I didn’t really want to see a cool-as-a-cucumber Dante, so the Dante in the anime is a welcome adaption. Now, however, that I know that Dante shouldn’t be that serious, I do admit to be curious about how cheesy he can get.
Fortunately for me, the Dante is the anime is still interesting, objectively from a non-gamer point of view anyway. I do so love his sarcasm, and I thought the seiyuu did a great job in bringing that across.
Looking forward to how Dante’s going to turn monster as well; should be very interesting to watch.
