This episode is a direct opposite with last episode’s emotional tragedy; there are a lot of laughs and quite a lot of fan service (for guys). Yet, it is better than I expected, especially after seeing that preview last week; I thought it would be nothing more than a filler episode with a lot of talking about nothing.
Well… There is a lot of talking about nothing. But there is also a lot of talking about something. There is more depth than I thought, and Kazuma x Ayano fans will be extremely interested to watch this episode.

Summary
So, the episode opens with Ayano bathing (see what I mean about fan service?), then fidgeting with her hair in her bathrobe, trying to figure out the best way to position her single strand of upwards pointing hair. After the hair, she tries to choose between three identical set of school uniforms (doesn’t she has any other clothes?) while wearing her underwear (see, fan service again).
In the background, through out the entire ordeal, we get snippets of phone conversation between Ayano’s friends (Yukari and Nanase) and Ren and his friend (where apparently Ayano couldn’t hear it). After all those stuff, Ayano runs out to join Ren and Kazuma, and they take the train to the amusement park. This conversation takes place on the train, and we see a bit of Kazuma’s past, some Ren cuteness, and Ayano’s sarcasm.

Kazuma: Oh, is that the amusement park?
Ayano: What? It’s like this is the first time you’ve been here.
Kazuma: That’s because it is the first time I’ve been here.
Ayano: Don’t you have friends?
Kazuma: That’s not it.
Ren: But there are school activities to go there, right?
Kazuma: When there are such events I’ll always be grabbed to go practicing jutsu. Damned father.
Ren: (cutey but embarrassed face)
Ayano: Oh, so you really should get some sympathy. After all, all those practices went down the drain as they are completely useless.

They arrive at the amusement park, and we see Ren’s friends glaring at each other while waiting for Ren. Cut to Ayano’s friends Yukari and Nanase who are talking about Ayano who exhibits signs of love and waiting outside a toilet. Cut back to Ayano, Kazuma and Ren, who enters the amusement park. Ayano asks Kazuma if he feels any spiritual energy, and he replies that they would have to investigate it. At that moment, Ren’s friends Sejiho (sp?) and Suzuhara “hail

Anna added these pithy words on Jul 06 07 at 5:49 amQuite nice episode really. The Ferris Wheel bit really was a great part between them. Even if meddling is involved it is good to see development there and how they are getting closer through all of these things.
Of course doesn’t mean they can’t have some sarcasm and sometimes Ayano ending up as the fall guy in the comedy. A positive thing that she could get in a bit of her own sarcasm early in the episode so she wasn’t on the bad side of things all the time. Plus at least it’s better than the school situation where she was dropped down stairs, soaked, have a bucket dropped on her head….she had some fun this time.
Next week seems to be busy. Plus looking at the damage to her dress we can tell why she just wears those school uniforms. Seems like Kazuma is watching the show while Ayano is in a tough fight next week. Looks kind’ve like she’s outnumbered with moving statues, some sort of overweight dragon thing, and of course the flame user.

@ Anna: I totally agree. It was such a pleasant surprise after my not-very-high expectations.
@ FlareKnight: It is true that Ayano got in some sarcasm at the beginning; now that you’ve reminded me, I don’t feel so bad for Ayano after all. Still, she does come across as quite dumb, though not so much like the blunt of the joke like in episode 8 with Tiana’s mischief.
She does look good in something other than her school uniforms. And it’s cool that Kazuma seems to be treating her, although again, he is doing the cool act and just enjoying the show. On the other hand, does that not show that he does have some confidence in Ayano’s ability? 
I for one am looking forward to some Kick-Ass Heroine instead of just another Damsel in Distress.

@ laboosh: I’m so glad you like it! I love it too, and if there are some less than stellar qualities to it, the storytelling and the characters still made it up for me. I’ve been totally hooked on it. And you’re definitely going to like episode 13 if you like Kazuma x Ayano.

the fan service fan girl part is imaginable and it’s cute you notice but it’s kinda cheap to see her in the bath and stuff i mean come one! perveted or what. this series would rock as a drama and yapapi was him! *screams-dies*
