ZOMG Seifukus are so moe *fap* *fap* *fap* *squirt* *police sirens* WTF LET ME GO IT’S MY CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO JERK OFF ONTO HIGH SCHOOL GIRL UNIFORMS!

I just watched Lucky Star episode 1 and I have a few words to say to everyone out there.

Fuck ‘Moe Kyoto Animation’.

I liked Haruhi, I semi-liked Kanon, but I’m finding a hard time liking Lucky Star. It just isn’t funny. I mean, I even watched the whole episode! Moe alone isn’t going to sell a show to me, and I hope there aren’t enough shallow people out there to finance more shows like Lucky Star.

If Lucky Star turns out to be funny, more power to Kyoto Animation, and more good anime for anime watchers everywhere. Until then…

Bring on the Full Metal Panic(s).

Lol, I cannot agree with either statement. I think that the thing about Lucky Star is that it has to fulfill the “Kyoto Animation” tag of excellent graphics and brilliant storyline (which is not really there in Kanon). To brand it as a failure as episode 1 will be a very judgmental and dangerous step to look forth.

I cannot argue the fact that when something sucks, it will suck no matter how much you watch and it’s probably the case here at the very least. Yet, to flame it as so feels a bit like trolling for the sake of it.

For my own view of Lucky Star, I actually enjoy it decently. It is definitely not extremely funny, exciting or even superb, but it is quite a competent series in term of characters who are quirky and strange. The first episode possibly did not do much justice to the characters but as stated, what do you expect with the first episode?

Kyoto Animation is never known to really start with a bang in terms of story plot for most of its series. Perhaps, if it is not a kyoto animation, it will never be flamed so badly by all bloggers. It’s just its luck, you can say.

It’s perhaps required to move back objectively to take a look at the series rather than going with the “KYOTO ANIMATION DID IT, IT SUCKS”. I bet if this is done by Bones, no one would have complained and while people can argue that there is no such thing as fairness, I do believe that there is some leeway for accessing a series at the very least, especially if it is only the first episode.

Humor is also very subjective and I did laugh once or twice. It’s not the best but …not that bad. However, to put a word onto it, I did not like School Rumble, one of the best comedy series for many people. I found it totally boring. Maybe it’s just me but I am sure that beyond the rabid fans, ask someone who is a rational blogger and he will have neither extremely kind or malicious words about Lucky Star for now. Disappointed, perhaps, for those with high expectations.

Kamichama Karin is perhaps hit or miss for most. The fact is that I can understand the rating if you have only watched the first six minutes to give it such a rating since it’s supposed to be a bad parody of mahou shoujo. That is the intention of the mangaka and it’s translated here.

After that transformation, it’s actually a very cute, sweet and funny show to be honest, and I do have vibes of CCS, which is definitely a good thing but unique enough to have its own name. To give it a totally unqualified 0/5 is uncalled for.

For a joke of sorts, William Shakespeare won’t be somersaulting in his grave, he’s actually in the actual show for comedy relief.

Done ^^

Rdrake: I don’t know, you might just like it. I just don’t find it all that funny.

Drm: Yeah, there are a lot of shallow people. A surprisingly large amount most of the time too.

Impz: It’s graphics isn’t even the normal KyoAni standard. Very smooth animation, sure, but there isn;t exactly a bucket-load animation here except in the OP. The colours are very clean and crisp, but it’s not as beautiful or detailed as Haruhi or Kanon. Not there there isn’t a lot of attention of detail, there are a lot of little things that’s worth noticing through out the episode, but it’s doesn’t benefit that much from the extra attention from KyoAni.

Hachimaki: FULL METAL PANIC!

Hinano: I truly don’t find anything good about Lucky Star. The other shows that KyoAni have done so far all have strong source material, but judging from the first episode alone I don’t see anything strong about this show at all. KyoAni’s recent trend of seeming to pick things to animate based on how moe they are (you can’t deny that Haruhi and Kanon are moe) is worrying me, and I feel the need to speak out and do what I can to stem the growth of corruption before it becomes unstoppable. LYNCH IT!

Lupus added these pithy words on Apr 09 07 at 6:35 am

Lupus:

[Lucky☆Star is] not as beautiful or detailed as Haruhi or Kanon.

Perhaps Lucky☆Star is ‘filler’ while they work on making Clannad the prettiest, most detailed thing you’ll ever see from KyoAni?

Spiritsnare: 24 episodes worth of filler?

Lupus added these pithy words on Apr 09 07 at 7:17 am

Naruto had worse. O:) You can shrug it off, if you like.

Spiritsnare added these pithy words on Apr 09 07 at 7:28 am

I didn’t watch Naruto fillers, and I’m hoping that Lucky Star won’t get the same treatment. This season still doesn’t have a gag show that I like.

Lupus added these pithy words on Apr 09 07 at 7:57 am

I think the only reason why people are trashing it is because it has no hype, compared to previous works.

Fine, granted there was Haruhi, but after watching the first episode, weren’t there fickle-minded people who trashed it, then praised it to the high heavens after watching the next 4 episodes.

For me, to make sure that my comments will not cause people to get the wrong idea, I’m always in favour of following the anime for 5 episodes before commenting.

Its always good to comment on the blogs where all the vicious rumours about anime/manga start/originate. So, somewhere down the road, if I hear about fillers and Clannad, I’ll know where to point the person to for the origins of such a rumour. LOL.

Mitsuki_Hayase added these pithy words on Apr 09 07 at 8:06 am

I was not being hyped about Lucky Star so I’m not that disappointed. But as Lupus and other people have shown out, this is a total waste of resources. While I really have no complains about KyoAni taking on a LOT of Key products, I think they should use the invincible budget-managing ability of them to make series like Full Mental Panic!!! :D.
To start off, I don’t think a 4-koma would be sufficient for the plot of the WHOLE 24 episodes unless they think they can fill up the HOLE with cute characters voiced by …XD …in full moe mood talking about food or seifuku or blah blah.
Well,I liked Azumanga Daioh but this [Lucky Star] just doesn’t work on me. ^^
It’s not like I’m trying to blame KyoAni or what because they had produced many of my favorite anime(FMP!!!XD)but I think they have abused (a LITTLE bit) the prism of Haruhi and bring us too much fanservices lately .

With other series, I agree with Lupus about most of them being from mediocre to crappy XD. But I like Kamichama Karin nonetheless and Romeo x Juliet deserves at least 4.5/5 in my opinion. Certainly the way Shakespeare is portraited in this anime creeps me out :P but all of the others are excellent ^^. I have to say No to Hayato, Seto no hanayoume and Touka Gettan for some obvious reasons :D. And I have no interest in Idol Master or Heroic Age (yes, every images of this show just scream “Fafner” to me ^^).
I’ll patiently wait for the subbed version of Darker than Black and Bokurano (you haven’t mentioned about this, have you?)to make the final decision.

Haruhi: you didn’t expect it to be good. Lucky Star: you expected something HUGE :).my point(not to offend you or something and I’m not comparing haruhi to lucky star it’s just an example): don’t expect huge things and maybe. you will be surprised:). (don’t kill me I think haruhi was awesome:))

I usually watch like three episodes and only then I decide about the show. the first two episodes can be different from the rest of the show. they can be bad and after that the show is good. they can be very good and suddenly episode three is crap. the show can turn to a different style/story plot than you had thought. I just say don’t judge the series only by the first episode.

PS: I’m with you when you say bring on more FMP!. I just don’t think Lucky Star is so bad. and don’t worry. we will surly see in the future more FMP!(haruhi and CLANNAD are sure to come so be happy:))

arcanes added these pithy words on Apr 09 07 at 12:59 pm

Hmmm it does seem a bit harsh to be bashed from the very beginning… I agree on waiting several episodes before making up our mind… After all, if I hadn’t known the lil bg I did on Haruhi and just judge on the first one, I would’ve probably dismissed it. And I’m not saying it’ll be thesame thing on this one…it may not turn out to be good, just saying that it happens XD…

yay Haruhi and FMP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm the general consensus on Darker than Black seems to be good, so I will definetely be checking it out.

And I wholeheartedly agree with more FMP!!!! ^-^

There is so much more they can animate and given how popular it is it wouldn’t surprise me if they did make more.

Time to hijack’s lupus post!

For all who are asking about “Darker than Black”, the answer from Impz (and not for his other bloggers because contrary to common belief, I don’t command my bloggers), I am not very impressed with Darker than Black.

As I have already grabbed my top 3 picks (Bokurano, Seirei no Moribito and Saimono), it is highly unlikely that I have time for other series unless I have hell tons of time, which I don’t ;_;. Go bug Crusader or Shokkeru for blogging “Darker than black” if you want to…

Mitsuki_Hayase added these pithy words on Apr 09 07 at 9:31 pm

well putting aside the fact that FMP (and all shows that have souske in it) is my favorite series…

i can say that Lucky Star didn’t really interest me, i’m not really one for gag series (or random shows [2×2, excel saga etc]) and this is why Nagasarete and Hayate have me a little worried (although Hayate in particular has been pretty good)

but just being by Kyoani isn’t enough to make me watch a show; and cute things doesn’t really attract me (on that basis alone), so that leaves the comedy; which aside from people have said that Lucky Star (anime)’s comedy hasn’t been great, it STILL doesn’t make me go… OMG I WANT

i’m sticking with gurren laggan, kamichama karin, claymore and hayate for now (plus some others but those are my favs so far) and there are still some other shows i want to watch

aka… lucky star… not so lucky for me :P

I’m still waiting (not so patiently)for Seirei no Moribito to be subbed. It’s got a lot of difficult words T_T.
Yay for FMP the 3rd raid or something like that :D. I know many people want it so hopefully the people in KyoAni will realize this truth sooner.

Fuuka added these pithy words on Apr 09 07 at 11:08 pm

@Fuuka: Arrr, Fuuka, you will have some luck to actualyl find an english sub considering how reputable fansubs generally do not touch pre-licensed stuff. It will be a gasp in the air if anything.

@Iwubanime: Your comment somehow went into the evil depths of spam karma for some queer reason. That said, lucky star was decent for me as stated above in my long comment but I am not sure how it will hold. Lovely complex fulfills the laugh + shoujo factor for me, that is….Hmmm.

Impz added these pithy words on Apr 10 07 at 7:22 am

Mitsuki Hayase: Actually, to me, Lucky Star is quite hyped, based on the track record of KyoAni and their wonderful work on Fumoffu. I often make judgements based on one or two episodes of anime because that’s all the time I have for them - in a season with many other outstanding works, I don’t think I’ll bother with an anime that doesn’t grab my interest early. I’m not saying the whole series will suck, but the first episode is terribly unfunny and I’m not having much hope for the rest of the series.

As for one post of infamy, I’ve written many, many flame inducing posts =P

Fuuka: I wouldn’t say this is a waste of resource - it’s clear that KyoAni isn’t spending as much money on this show as Kanon or Haruhi. But I think (so far) KyoAni’s talent isn’t pulling its weight, and I’m terribly disappointed in their picking of a show so clearly targeted at otakus, its entire appeal based on moe and Izumi’s otaku-thinking. Hell the OP is even called Serafuku.

I’m not worried about the 4koma transition very much, because of Azumanga’s extremely successful precedent. And you can tell that Lucky Star takes a leaf out of Azumanga’s book, with its pacing and frequent eye-catches.

I actually really liked the first episode of Romeo x Juliet. The reason I rated it so lowly (even though I consider 3/5 to be quite good) is because I believe it’s a perfectly competent story in its own right, and the Shakespeare references are completely unwarranted and unnecessary. All it does is generate hype and that’s a retarded reason to tread on great literature.

ZeusIrae: The OP is catchy, that’s all. Not a particularly great song. The animation sequence is nice, but it stinks too much of “let’s ride on Hare Hare Yukai’s success!”, though there isn’t exactly anything wrong with that.

arcanes: I did expect a lot from Lucky Star, considering it’s made by Kyoto Animation (which did the superbly hilarious Fumoffu) and, because of its 4koma origin, I was hoping for another Azumanga Daioh.

On the point about judging shows early… it’s my habit. I don’t watch very many shows until the end, so unless it really grabs my attention at the start, I’ll drop it quickly. I’ll also drop a show halfway through if its promise doesn’t become fulfilled.

MarsBattyAngel=^-^=: I didn’t find the first Haruhi episode to be bad. I didn’t find it outstanding, either, but definitely not bad.

Briar: Haha yeah, I want to know whether Touka is guy or a girl! The primary reason why I’ll keep watching this heh.

As for Darker than BLACK, I’m not good at blogging anime, so I most probably wouldn’t be doing it. I don’t know if any of the other bloggers will pick it up - bug them enough and they just might!

D.J.: Full Metal Panic is just so well done, both on the high school side and the military side, largely thanks to Sousuke and Chidori. I really want to see more, especially since there is so much source material already sitting around waiting to be animated.

DKellis: I’m your anti-thesis.

Alkan: Oh no don’t you DARE give them any funny ideas.

iwubanime: I love gag shows, and comedy in general. Which is why this season is kind of disappointing for me, since none of the gag shows have grabbed my interest. But Hayate seems to be on the rise, so that’s good, and Nodame and Lovely Complex will provide the slice-of-life comedy that I so badly crave.

Lupus added these pithy words on Apr 10 07 at 8:39 am

@Lupus, that’s why I like FMP so much, its one of those few shows where they manage to mix both humour and action and do both really well.

Ack sorry about Arbalest, is there any way to edit my post so newcomers aren’t spoiled?

D.J added these pithy words on Apr 10 07 at 8:48 am

I beginning to wonder if the emoness in certain animes are taking it’s toll on anime bloggers. Now it seem they think it fine to put on their best emo face contortion and spit incoherently at any show that is cool to bash on.

mikemil828 added these pithy words on Apr 10 07 at 1:37 pm

iwubanime added these pithy words on Apr 10 07 at 7:00 pm

I never understand why there is the claim that Lucky Star is “hyped”. KyoAni released the series announcement and a one-minute (or fourteen-second) trailer of muuUUUuuUUuuu. I don’t think that really counts as “hype”… and blaming the studio for the fans is more than a bit unfair, I think.

Besides, the show is already being animated and shown. It’s a bit late to start complaining, I think.

DKellis added these pithy words on Apr 10 07 at 9:26 pm

Disliking this show is more shallow than enjoying it. This isn’t about moe, it’s about cute gags and situations that only a Japanese person would understand. It’s too bad a foreigner tried to like the show but failed.

Diedrupo added these pithy words on Apr 10 07 at 10:50 pm

D.J.: I’ve edited it.

Mikemi: ouch, that hurts. Except I don’t see how I was being emo and I’m bashing not so much the show, but Kyoto Animation. If I was crying about “OMG KYOANI YOU DON’T LOVE ME ANYMORE /wrist” then I guess I would be emo.

OMG KYOANI YOU DON’T LOVE ME ANYMORE /wrist

DKellis: I hyped it for myself, based on Fumoffu and Azumanga Daioh.

Diedrupo: So the show has no universal appeal. Then it’s easy (and I believe, perfectly valid) to say that’s it’s worse than shows that have universal appeal isn’t it? If it’s shallow to dislike something that you don’t understand, and thus don’t find funny, I guess that makes everyone who don’t understand the in-jokes I share with my friends, and that includes you, shallow.

Lupus added these pithy words on Apr 11 07 at 12:31 am

@Lupus, thank you! And once again I’m really sorry I spoiled it for you, but I just realized your reply to my post probably needs editing too!

On another note I managed to catch the first episode of Darker than Black and I have to say I really can’t wait to see more of it.

If you don’t like something you just don’t like something. If everybody liked the same thing everybody else did then life would be boring.

I would rather read somebody’s honest opinion whether I agreed with it or not rather than an opinion based on the mindless masses. So Lupus, keep up the good work! ^-^
