The other half is realizing that it's a (bit) of a subtle parody on the typical shounen love story... as both the guy AND the girl are misunderstanding one another's intentions, so something that one says to the other gets completely misinterpreted... and creates further misunderstandings which can or are eventually exploited by the writer.
