As for Mai, it would seem that her "dreamseer" ability would still be growing, from the fact that she can gave Masako her good luck charm "key" that she brought with her in her pocket while she met Masako in her dream. And in the next story Mai can also use the Fudoumyou Mantra and Kuji that is taught to her quite nicely while the group had to repel an attack from a group of....well..."zombies" . Ahh the clues were all there dammit. I totally glossed over what the man was saying at the end, dismissing it as the voice of those who had died.
