This particular screenshot scared the living lights out of me when I watched the episode for the first time, causing me to partially close my eyes for the remaining few minutes of this episode. That is how scared I was.

Yes, I know Ghost Hunt isn’t really too insane on the scary/horror portion for the most part, but I have a feeling that this arc will be rather disturbing for my mind. Before I ramble on about how scary this episode is, I will go on with the summary!

Episode summary

ghosthunt18-1.jpg

In a tortured cell, a knife is seen with splatters of fresh blood on the wall and a room with a surgery/torture bed. A female voice cried out “Please save me” before a disturbing low male voice said, “I don’t want to die…”. Back to reality, Yasuhara was addressed as Naru the leader of the Ghost Hunters. Yasuhara introduced the rest of the ghost hunters as his assistance, with Naru being called Narumi. It seemed that the situation came up with the contact person, Ohashi, asking him to do this job. It was a case about a mansion involving the former prime minister and the prime minister wanted to keep it as low-profile as he could. He said he initally did not want to pick the case up since it was going to involve a lot of publicity and decided to ask Yasuhara for help. Yasuhara was glad to help, even though he thought he was asked over to celebrate him passing his exams.

Naru said it would be hard to work with the other ghost hunters working on this case since he knew of some as obnoxious. Bou-san said that he was giving an unpleasant work to Yasuhara because he hated it, while Naru replied that he could withdraw if he was not happy. The door then slammed open, with a woman apologizing for Naru’s rudeness and criticized his lack of tact and politeness in asking for favors. Naru was completely pressed down, with everyone wondering who this person who could make Naru completely quiet was. She introduced herself as Madoka, Naru’s teacher in teaching him the arts of ghost hunting, and she was the one who asked for Naru to complete this task.

At the mansion, Mai was walking to the meeting room when she felt this unpleasant feeling of blood far beyond the corridor. As she shrugged it off, Ohashi talked about the history of the house, saying that it was formerly a hospital where the kids came to play but one of them went missing. This was not a solo incident, as there were rumors about the place being haunted and people missing during the construction too. Everyone was then introduced as the first group were from the National Defense Academy, Professor Chie Igarashi and her assistant, Naoko Suzuki. Dr. Oliver Davis of the British Society for Psychic Research was also here. Mai, Ayako, and especially Monk-san are shocked as Dr. Davis of SPR was a legend among those who possess PK and ESP with the cases he had solved using those powers, including a missing child of a wealthy man.

As they were talking about Davis, Naru was carrying the equipment in as Mai immediately realized that her work was replaced by Naru. Naru said he could not let a lady do the heavy work with a really big smile (”like you are going to suffer for this” smile). Ohashi then came in talking to Yasuhara as Yasuhara delegated the questioning to Narumi (Naru). The building seemed to be renovated every year, with the previous design completely gone from the change of the interior. The owner was a philanthropist, with a lot of industries around the area but left in the midst of social turmoil.

ghosthunt18-2.jpg

One of the former owners also said that his will was to leave the mansion to rot forever without maintaining it. As Lin asked for the house blueprint, Ohashi said none existed and asked whether Lin was Chinese. Lin said he was from Hong Kong, giving the rest a shock. Naru then instructed Ayako to make charms in everyone’s room, as it was a situation without a room blueprint, with the mansion being abandoned for a while. It was better to be on the safe side. Yasuhara, Mai and Bou-san were finding the whole place to be a maze, with Yasuhara remarking how he did not want to find any corpses. Just when Bou-san opened a window, he gasped with the truth being a room within that window, while Mai checked the temperature and recording it at 4 degree celsius.

Bou-san remarked how this place was like a rpg, similar to an event in Winchester, where the design of the house was changed countless times when someone cursed the family living in that mansion as the mistress of the house felt that once the mansion was completed, there would be misfortune. Minami then came in, trying to laugh at the young age of Naru (Yasuhara), only to be rebutted by Yasuhara as he described himself as 49 and talking in an old man manner, irritating the hell out of Minami as he left in a puff.

As they returned back to base, Naru de-briefed and reminded them again not to go around alone. Mai asked whether Lin was doing the house blueprint but no one replied, with Mai looking a bit worried. Bou-san asked Mai if she needed to call her parents but she happily said that both her parents were dead early and she was helped both by scholarships and a charitable teacher to support her studies and her daily expenses. It was relaxing to live in her own pace. Ayako then said that was like how she always slept at work, with her agreeing it. Yasuhara then made a good impersonation of Naru as he said “baka”. Bou-san hugged her, telling her that she could ask for help Mai then called Bou-san a pervert for hugging her as she hoped that these happy days with the ghost hunters would continue forever.

At night, Mai woke up to hear a sound of running water. As she entered the bathroom, the tap was shut but the sound emitted from the bathtub as she opened to see a gruesome bloody sight. Mai woke up, only to realize that it was a nightmare. The next day, Chie asked for help in the evening for conjuring the spirit, as they went over. In the room, they gathered together, as Minami showed his ignorance using a flash video camera. Spirits were disturbed by lights, which was why only night vision cameras were used as Mai was shocked at the lack of knowledge. As they started to summon the spirit, her assistant Naoko started to write furiously. The room started to shake, as Mai sensed someone was there only for Bou-san to get rid of them using his chant. Minami was clearly creep out with many of the words stating “Save me”. However, one of the papers was written in red ink saying “I don’t want to die”. The scene faded, only to remain with two white glowing eyes.

Thoughts

ghosthunt18-3.jpg

I am pretty surprised that Davis is so young. If he is a famous person, wouldn’t he be like someone really old? Maybe I am over suspicious as usual, but this is considering that he has an assistant that does not even know the basics of spirits. Dr Davis has not talked as well, but I do wonder if he’s the true Davis with that lingering disturbance in my head. He just feels a bit too young, considering how famous he is as a legendary person. I generally think of such people requiring at least 20 odd years for them to be famous. I mean it’s the Britain SPR, not some tom, dick and harry research company.

Yes, all you manga readers can start laughing at my silliness as always and speculating such a ridiculous thing when even Bou-san admits his admiration of Davis when he sees the real person. I am just curious since a man in such a famous role will be roughly around 50-60 considering his fame, but this Davis hardly looks 30 odd. I guess it is just the anime making people look younger than they are. Just a silly rant there.

The last episode comments about Mai reacting to death is probably answered in this episode. Mai lost both her parents early in her life and even though she seems to be handling it well and totally strong about it, the impact is definitely strong. Remember, this happens when she is young, and it is imaginable her reaction toward death can be so strong. I am just thinking how good this current description of Mai is, as we see how strong she is actually, rather than just a juvenile that is clueless about everything. She probably knows quite a bit about the harshness of life and has worked hard on her own.

It is good that the anime did not play up the emo-kid in Mai in this episode, but makes it in a subtle way. In a way, that makes you feel less likely to pity her but simply admire her courage in her life views. On a totally different aspect. a check on wikipedia described about the Winchester curse. Quoting from Wikipedia, it wrote.

Interesting fact to say the very least. I am also curious what exactly happened in this mansion and this is time for Impz’s wild guess time for this episode. I speculate that one of the previous masters actually abused this faculty for the hospital as a form of torture for illegal organ transplants, with the person asking for help one of the victims of this gruesome trade. I believe that using the context of the hospital, that seems to be the case since it feels to me with missing people as a sign of the “trade” still going on in the spirit world to grab missing living people away.

Not sure if I make sense but I just have that feeling when they mentioned about this mansion being a hospital. Anyway, next week is the continuation of this arc and it might probably shed some light on the whole situation.

P/S: I hope that the white glowing eyes do not appear too often. I am still a bit spooked.

To me, he looks around 40+. But that’s just me. :P

You didn’t mention on the first funny face Naru has made in the entire anime? *shocked* He was soooooo cute! It’s around 05:09 of the anime. At least, I think it’s the first funny (chibi?) fun he made.

Judging by the opening sequence (the torture bloody room) and the ending nightmare and seance + eyes sequence, I think this arc may be the scarest yet. Definitely something that could be as scary (or even scarier) than the one with the doll (story arc 2?).

Are you sure that you have the right character in mind for Dr. Davis? You don’t have a picture posted of him, so I can’t refer to him. But he’s the white-haired older man with glasses. I thought he looked much older than everyone else in the room. Certainly older than 30 and probably in his 50s.

When the SPR group was exchanging stories about Dr. Davis, did anyone mention a video tape of him using his PK? I know that they mentioned his PK because I could pick up the reference. But did they say anything about there being a tape of the demonstration?

The Winchester place was one of the first ghost stories I read about when I moved to the States.

When I moved over Hubby-sama bought me a book about Michigan Ghost Stories since he knows how much the subject interested me.

LOL I remember when we bought our house. Whenever we would go to check out a new place he would ask me if I felt anything. Considering my history with paranormal crappu. Thankfully I and the pets gave our current home the all clear! ^-^

I think Stephen King even based his book Rose Red on the Winchester story. They made a tele movie out of which when it wasn’t actually showing the ghosts was really creepy.

I wonder if the British crew ever checked out Borley Rectory (or what’s left of it since it burned down) but at one point it held the title of the most Haunted place in England.

It would be so cool if the crew went on a trip to another country.

I want to give Mai a big ol hug. She is one of my fave characters. I don’t find her annoying at all. Which is strange for me, since I find the loud, type annoying. Like Yuuna from Maburaho, omg did I want to kill her.

But I think she’s actually rather sweet, and there is obviously a lot more to her than we know.

Ahh I thought I’ve learned not to watch Ghost Hunt with the lights off by now! This definitely looks like a good arc. Looking forward to the next episode of course!

I’ve had my suspicious about Mai’s parents and I’m actually liking her character more now. :D And that part where Bou-san hugged Mai made me go all “aww” He’s almost like a big brother to her.

I’m also happy to see Yasuhara again… ahah and playing as Naru too! Quite funny actually.

:D AND thank you for the summary!

Riz added these pithy words on Feb 08 07 at 10:11 pm

@Briar: hahaha! Well, perhaps 40 is accurate but still, after re-watching it to make sure that the Davis I am looking at is the right man, I reiterated my stand that he’s way too young to be famous enough like that. I still have some strange feelings whether he’s real or not, but I doubt it is the case here.

Madoka really is funny when she totally controlled Naru, forcing him to do a “meh, darn it” face as you described.

@LKK: after checking, I am sure i did not get it wrong. This is him, right? To also confirm your question, there is no mention of it being caught on tape. Is there a manga relation to it? That will say a lot about the credibility of his abilities then. I will try re-watching to see if it is not said because I do not remember seeing such a note about filming.

@13sugars: first of all, Naru’s weakness toward Madoka is classic. Someone should do a gif or avatar just on that very scene. Naru’s “meh” face is just pure classic. Do not worry, you are at least a lady, I presume. Imagine a guy, me, totally freaking out after that first picture and losing a bit of sanity to blog carefully.

I am surprisingly a very easy person in anime. To me, Mai is more cute than annoying but I guess a few more sensitive people will feel disturbed by her insistence that can be seen as naivety and disruption to work. Still, after realizing her background, you will be hard-pressed to be annoyed at her as said in my thoughts.

I actually realized that Lin is colder in this episode and Mai did notice too. I think there might be a reason for this, and Naru looks pretty skeptical whenever he looks at Davis. Is there a reason, I wonder?

@DJ: Woah, nice story on the house. It’s a good thing I never will have a chance to stay in such a huge mansion. I am but a poor man :P

@Riz: I NEVER WATCHED ghost hunt with my lights off simply because it is just wrong to do so. It will hurt my eyes if I watch it in the darkness..

*cough* Fine. I am just easily scared when there’s any form of gore and blood.

On a different topic, I never had any suspicions on Mai’s parents. I actually find the moment after Bou-san hugging Mai to be more amusing.

“You pervert monk!” Now, that’s good stuff! Yasuhara’s old man imitation is something really amusing as he seriously can make a good Naru, amid in a slightly different style of annoyance :P

Impz added these pithy words on Feb 09 07 at 6:56 am

The picture you linked to is a picture of Dr. Davis. So, yes, we’re all talking about the same person. :)

I don’t necessarily agree with you about having to be old in order to be famous though. Davis could easily have been a child prodigy in the ESP / psychic field. If so, he would have been doubly famous. First for his abilities, second for youth. That’s the case with Davis, according to the manga.

This should have been mentioned in episode 18. It’s possible that the anime will move this conversation to a later scene, so this may be a spoiler. However in the manga, John says that Davis isn’t young enough actually. Davis earned his PhD degree through a special competition held by Cambridge University in Britain for psychic researchers. He doesn’t have a traditional PhD. Part of his fame is from winning the competition at a young age in addition to his abilities as a psychic researcher and as a PK & ESP user. There’s more detail in my manga summary post in the AnimeSuki Ghost Hunt thread.

About the video question, you’re right. Monk-san says that when Davis demonstrated his famous PK ability (smashing a half-ton block of aluminum into a wall), the demonstration was probably video-taped. Monk-san hasn’t seen the tape, but he assumes it exists because the demonstration was done in one of SPR’s research labs under scientific conditions.

LKK added these pithy words on Feb 09 07 at 8:54 am

Arr, with that background knowledge, it will make perfect sense. Still, the reason why i am rather skeptical is because even as a child prodigy, to be famous and regarded as a leading figure of any field requires a good period of time. Even as a honorary member of a PHD degree requires a good amount of time.

However, with the background of the manga, it is then clear that he is the real thing. Still, I am disturbed that his assistant, Minami, seems to be totally ignorant of even basic knowledge. I do wonder why and the last scene where he is simply crouching down totally scared witless makes it even more interesting why he has such an useless assistant. It makes totally no sense, which makes it suspicious.

Davis is clearly A FAMOUS person when it comes to PK, using your example in the manga. I do wonder why the anime excluded this fact since it will make Davis way more credible and remove any doubts in Impz thinking that he’s a fake or something, rofl!

Impz added these pithy words on Feb 09 07 at 9:39 am

I still can’t believe Bou-san cut his hair! *Why Bousan why?* Ah well not that it matters he’s still pretty.

He’s yet another character I like more and more as the series goes on. Probably because he is so protective of Mai.

*Impz* Its no mansion but its home ^-^ And like I said unlike my childhood home my current abode is thankfully ghost free!

Actually due to all the strange occurences in that place, growing up I wanted to be a Parapsychologist. My mum put an end to that dream though.

But I soak up shows like this, my enthusiasm for the ghostly stories hasn’t dried up in the slightest! ^-^

I love Ghost Hunt!

D.J added these pithy words on Feb 09 07 at 10:14 am

Just because Davis is legitimate doesn’t mean that Minami is legitimate. And if you think about it, just because Davis has a legitimate reputation doesn’t mean that the guy working with Minami is the legitimate Davis. After all if Minami could be a fraud, couldn’t this Davis also be a fraud?

@Lkk: Arr, you confuse me for a second. Well, I was thinking that you had manga spoilers that affirmed that it is in fact Davis sitting there. I am still on the count that reputation means nothing, simply because until you affirm with a face or identity, the person might be fake. Anime makes me a skeptical man.

@DJ: LOL. I see. I am ghost-insensitive so I will never detect such things. When I was in the army, my friends used to drag me to the toilet at 3 am to accompany them since it is rumored to have ghosts. I am scared of spirits but at that time, I could care less whatever appears, compared to most of them. They even told me that they seen queer things and I am like -.- “i just want to go back to sleep, dammit”

@13sugars: I actually chuckled slightly with the wild speculation. I guess with the real Davis, it might be Naru’s true “spiritual” leader or perhaps his boss. I am just using your analysis since it will come back to the same answer. But wahahah, you have reached impzie’s level of delusion powers!

Welcome!

@Briar: I would think he is in order to reach one of the possibly most prestigious ranks in Britain. Naru, being 17…I think it must be done before that period that Naru is born.

@Shaorin: HAHAHA, good luck stealing him from many of the fanboys/fangirls here :P

(blink-blink) Hmmm…Why is the GH-manga-reader mistress LKK chuckling? ^^ And if I add Freya’s little comment then…omg! I hit the jackpot!!! Wow, maybe this means I can be a detective…okay, maybe not. ^^

Anyway, since no one is officially confirming/contesting my speculation (I understand this as I’m guessing no one is stepping up to do so for fear of the murderous spoiler-haters out there^_-), I’ll add to it that if Naru is Dr. Davis, then the fact that he isn’t taking cases that will involve the media, and that his name wasn’t on the door of the room he was confined in when he was hospitalized in the After-school Spell Caster arc, makes perfect sense. If he really is Dr. Davis then he would be a juicy target for the media what with him being one of the biggest figures in the current psychic industry. The media will then hinder Naru from doing his job as the president of Shibuya Psychic Research and will likely piss him off that might lead to the media being smashed by a half-ton block of aluminum (Okay, the last note is me letting my wild imagination run rampant. ^^)

On another note, in the Mai x Naru Love Alliance, supporters are continuously and proudly waving the Mai x Naru love banner while Krispy Kreme doughnuts are served. Next week, we’ll have lots and lots of kisses served by yours truly. Hershey kisses that is. Don’t even get the wrong idea or thou shall meet my giant spiked club.

All right, now I finally understand 13sugar’s argument and I will say why Davis and Naru are not the same person.

*yay, counter arguments for drama*

1. I personally believe that Naru is way too young at the age of 17 to have any true credibility to help solve crime scenes. If anything, it really makes no sense for police to entrust such powers to a young man. Even if Davis won his Ph.D in a competition, I cannot imagine anyone at 17 getting it. Naru also hardly looks anything above 20, so the speculation is a little doubtful.

2. He will probably be very famous too, and hence Bou-san and the rest should immediately recognize Naru as Davis if it is the case.

3. Even though Naru has little knowledge of Japanese, the only indication is that he studies overseas and it is not rare that talented people from domestic fields usually go to places like Britain where psychology and such psychic studies are more apparent and developed. Hence, he might be just a prodigy.

4. Masako might have known a little about Naru’s prodigy abilities with her connections as a celebrity. If he is really Davis, I think Masako will have an even bigger reaction than anything else. Her reaction toward Naru will probably be more respectful rather than equal status.

Of course, it is due to love…LOVE, I TELL YOU.

Ok, just a few prepositions :)

Clearly some rebuttals are in order here. Then I suppose I must stand and deliver. ^^ And Mr. Impz, I know you’re doing this because we have sweets on our side. But before that, (gives some doughnuts to the running YamiKakyuu courtesy of the Mai x Naru love-love alliance)

1.With Naru’s behavior and intelligence, Naru could really be a prodigy. Something you also claimed in your third argument. So if Naru is presumed to be a genius, why would it be so hard to believe that he can acquire a Ph. D through a competition at such a young age? It isn’t surprising as well if the Police entrust paranormal cases to someone as young as Naru especially if he happens to be a genius in the area. Plus, I don’t think the Police can do anything about the paranormal cases either because really, that’s not their forte.

2.I’m thinking Dr. Oliver Davis is famous only by name and facts for good reasons. I don’t think the British SPR would expose Naru/Dr. Davis’s personal profile so haphazardly particularly on how much a “unique

*nods fervently* Aye aye! Oui! Yes! Nod-nod! Shi4! All agreement here!

*Wild speculation coming up, courtesy of ThirteenSugars who sparked it with her own speculation*

Seems as if the main problem with Davis not being Naru is that Naru is too young. How about this? Naru is the son of Davis. We don’t know anything about his dad, after all. He could be alive and living in Europe doing whatever Dr Davis is supposed to be doing. Naru comes to Japan for whatever reason (under orders from the British SPR to open another SPR branch? Or in defiance of the British SPR and come to Japan to open a rival SPR branch? [personal preference for this wild speculation]), but wants to avoid publicity because he doesn’t want to be recognized… as Davis’s son.

Ok, time I stop speculating and go back to do my thesis. :D

Actually, Briar’s speculation will be slightly more acceptable since it will fit into the explanations put forth by 13sugars. I will like to add that Naru will probably be an illegitimate son of Davis and has in fact need to hide his identity in order to protect himself and Davis too. That will explain why Masako has a rough idea who Naru is (since he cannot be exactly identified) yet not expose him since he does not have a real position per se.

well, if Naru is Dr Davis, that in eps 16, when the floor fell onto him and Mai, and they survived it with just a few bruises would make sense, no? (since the alleged Dr Davis can smash a half-ton block of aluminum into a wall)

danie added these pithy words on Feb 11 07 at 11:30 am

In episode 16, it was the ceiling that fell on Mai & Naru. Not the entire second floor. In other words, it was the acoustical tiling that fell on top of them. If you’ve ever seen acoustical tiling boards, they’re not much heavier than a stiff reinforced cardboard. They’re ackward because of their size, but they’re not particularly heavy. Some of the support structure for the acoustical tiling boards came down as well. Those would have been thin aluminum braces or some other lightweight metal. Plus the light fixtures fell down. There was some risk of injury. I’m not denying that. But the danger wasn’t as great as it would have been if the reinforced floor above them that had collapsed.

Naru as the illegitimate son of Dr. Davis? My, but we are getting imaginative, aren’t we?

I have to confess; I don’t understand the instance that you must be older in to be famous and respected within your field of expertise. Sixteen-year-old Masako is the most famous and the most respected psychic medium currently working in Japan. This has been mentioned several times. True, some of her fame among the general populace is due to her TV appearances. But she must have been a famous respected psychic medium before she was offered the TV appearances because why else would she have been offered them?

If Masako can be famous, respected, and young, then why can’t Oliver Davis be famous, respected, and young as well?

LKK added these pithy words on Feb 11 07 at 11:45 am

If Masako can be famous, respected, and young, then why can’t Oliver Davis be famous, respected, and young as well?

LKK makes a good point here… But I still do not believe that Naru is infact “Dr. Davis”, I do however believe that Naru has some sort of connection to Davis leading me to believe that the current person is infact not the real Davis. It does seem that for some unsaid reason Lin has become very cold, ecspecially towards Mai. I was glad when I watched this episode because we finally learn something about the background of one of our characters. I know theres been some things said about the others but not as in depth as like the instince with Mai’s parents. I did find it weird that everyone including Lin reacted except Naru… Which is nothing new but it leads me to believe that he already knew but had not said anything to the others.

Drakan added these pithy words on Feb 11 07 at 1:06 pm

“I did find it weird that everyone including Lin reacted except Naru… Which is nothing new but it leads me to believe that he already knew but had not said anything to the others.”
In the manga, Lin is not included in the drawing of people reacting to Mai’s announcement. Therefore, I was surprised that the anime chose to depict him as reacting. I don’t know for a fact that Naru knew about Mai’s situation before he hired her, but I firmly believe that he did. I also feel that despite what the anime showed, Lin probably knew as well. I suspect Lin knows everything Naru knows about the people they hire to help out with SPR’s cases.

Wait a second… Where did all this “Naru is Dr. Davis” stuff come from in the first place? I’m way lost there. I think the Dr. Davis is probably a fake, because of the lack of knowledge, and Lin’s cold reaction, but that doesn’t mean that it’s actually Naru. I find it interesting just how much Naru tries to keep out of the public eye though. He never takes cases that gain any publicity, and now that he has, he’s gotten Yasuhara to pretend to be him. He doesn’t even like his name being mentioned, much less any of his talents or skills, which appear greater every day. Besides, what about Madoka? She certainly didn’t say anything about “Mr. Davis” and she was Naru’s teacher right? I choose to just wait and see about Naru’s true identity. That’s one mystery in which I don’t mind if I don’t discover the truth.

What was so scary about this episode? I thought it was quite funny. I was glad to see more about Mai. I think we all like her a lot more now (not that I ever didn’t like her, but I’m also talking about the other characters on the show as well). Did Lin react when Mai said her parents were dead? I guess I didn’t notice that, but I Naru’s obviously knew! The exploiter! Yasuhara’s performance was wonderful. I’m so glad that he’s back.

That’s an awesome house! I want to at least visit an old house like that once in my life. Old buildings simply don’t exist in my area, let alone old houses.

Just one thing more to say: Bou-san’s wonderful hair is gone!

@DJ: LOL. I see. I am ghost-insensitive so I will never detect such things. When I was in the army, my friends used to drag me to the toilet at 3 am to accompany them since it is rumored to have ghosts. I am scared of spirits but at that time, I could care less whatever appears, compared to most of them. They even told me that they seen queer things and I am like -.- “i just want to go back to sleep, dammit

D.J added these pithy words on Feb 12 07 at 8:00 pm

hahahaha, I am always ghost insensitive and I don’t really believe much in ghosts and the likes, ahaha~

That said, Linya, I am pretty much a person who is easily scared by horror flicks when they show blood. I have this innate fear of blood which is why I got seriously bonked out.

Oh well.

@yami: gonna check it out :)

On the other hand, I wonder if Naru employed Mai because of this. At least, one of the reasons for her employment… The other being my firm belief that Mai and Naru are meant together. :P

Oh btw, since I haven’t seen epi 18 yet, I’ll just like to ask if Madoka calls Naru “Naru” or “Shibuya” or what. If she calls Naru, Naru, doesn’t it mean that Naru has always been named Naru, and that Mai chose that name by sheer coincidence? ;)

Briar added these pithy words on Feb 13 07 at 4:49 am

Well, she called her Naru once, so hmm, I think Mai might have hit the right spot accidentally :P

< – went to re-watch to answer that question :)

I believe that Naru can tell that Mai will definitely be helpful for him and he has probably done some investigation on her before hand. I mean, that sounds like what Naru will do.

…..Trust me, you have a companion here that can be scared by this episode, yet STILL HAVE TO RE-WATCH IT in order to write this episode.

Ahahaha~ Thanks for the compliment but this series is not exactly too scary except the doll arc and possibly this arc.

hahahaha, I am always ghost insensitive and I don’t really believe much in ghosts and the likes, ahaha~

Our first home we moved out of when I was 1 or 2 so I don’t remember it much. Our second home we moved out of when I was around ten. I did hate the landing area in the house, but I was very young and grew out of it. I think most of us are scared at the dark and stuff and some point in our lives.

I remember actually going to check the third house out when my parents were still house hunting and hadn’t settled on one yet. From the second I stepped into it, I hated it. Not the house itself, it was a fairly nice looking house, for lack of a better way to put it, it just gave me the creeps.

Particularly the largest bedroom in the house. If there was one room in the house I really hated, it was that room. The other room I didn’t particularly like was the upstairs bathroom.

I begged and pleaded with my parents not to buy the house, and of course they did. I even said I would take the small room (which was tiny, the room I hated ran from the back to front of the house, it was huge) Of course my parents said that was ridiculous and placed me in the room I hated above all.

There was a built in cupboard at the far end of the room, it ran behind the bathroom too. It was pitch black and always freezing. My dad installed a light, it would never work, or the bulb would always break within a day. Despite him working on the lock numerous times, it would never latch and would always open itself. I would always prop a chair up against only to always find the chair had been moved and no-one had been anywhere near my room.

Minor stuff I know. Then the scratching started. Just as I was about to nod off, most nights I would hear scratching on the ceiling above my head. It literally sounded like someone was scratching the ceiling with their nails. Now I was actually very logical about it, despite being so young. I figured it was birds or mice or something and bugged my dad about it. He went up to put traps, he found no droppings up there at all to indicate any animals but did it anyway. We never caught anything.

Things would go missing and end up in the wierdest of places. Like for instance my library book that went missing. Ahh I just misplaced it I hear you say. But how did I manage to get it underneath a wardrobe that had no gap underneath it. Literally the only way for a book to get there would be to put it on the floor and place the wardrobe on top of it. And considering the clothes in it, the junk in the top cupboard and the two suitcases full of junk on top of it, that would be a really hard feat. We only found the missing item by chance because my mum bought a new bed for me and decided to re-arrange the room.

The worst it ever got was the time I was home alone. I was sitting watching t.v and the lights on the wall above the t.v starting to make a loud buzzing sound and dimmed until almost out and then would come back bright again. They kept doing this over and over. So I checked to see if the other lights in the house were doing the same thing. So I turned on the chandelier in the dining room. They were fine, but the lights above the t.v were acting up. Then I stepped into the dining room. The lights above the t.v went back to normal once I left the room (I turned on the chandelier from the sitting room, there were switches for the dining room in the sitting room as well as the dining room) However now that I was standing in the dining room, the lights on the chandelier started to buzz and dim and brighten.

This happened again in the hallway and the kitchen, as soon as I entered a room, the lights would go crazy and the lights in the room I previously vacated would go back to normal.

That was the one time I was honest to god scared, probably because I was home alone. My dad told me it was because of an electrical storm, but there was no storm that night.

I also had a habit of walking down the stairs in the dark. Which is why I would get really irritated that my mum would yell at me for leaving my bedroom light on. Which I knew I had turned off, because otherwise the stairs would have been lit when I walked down them.

Then there was the necklace test…

Oh I could go on. Although once we remodeled the house and the cupboard was taken out and the room turned into two bedrooms. Despite me getting the bedroom that had once included the cupboard I didn’t feel uneasy anymore, and the wierd crap stopped happening.

And that’s just one of the sort of paranormal things I’ve experienced.

Although I still won’t conclusively say ‘Ghosts’ exsist, maybe we just can’t explain these things scientifically yet.

OMG I just watched 19, considering there are 26 eps I’m pretty sure Mai is dreaming, oh kami let her be dreaming!

hi Impz! i just saw episode 19 and OMG! it is the cliffhanger of cliffhangers!i was going crazy coz i couldn’t understand everything they were saying and sometimes they speak too fast for me to catch what they were saying. i was hoping your synopsis for episode 19 was already up. i’m looking forward to it!^_^ i hope you put it up soon coz it’s getting really exciting and it’s driving me nuts:p my theory on it would either be, harvesting of organs or maybe cannibalism or just a fetish for blood.. i wonder which is it or maybe it’s not among my guesses:p

beingmeyuki added these pithy words on Feb 15 07 at 7:36 am

hahahahaha, guess what, it’s up already :P just when you message. I actually speculated something similar to what you said, ahaha~

I assumed from the start while watching the sub that Davis was a phony because Naru said that the reason why he didn’t want to go as himself was because some of the other people there would be phonies. Minami made it clear that he had no idea what he was doing, so he had to be the phony.

David Johnston added these pithy words on Mar 20 07 at 6:01 pm

I liked this!
Although I think the chinese subs are inaccurate. Yasuhara said he was 249 not 49! as far as I can tell with my limited understanding of japanese numbers this is what he said so my subs are correct. Also he said he was born in houreki 8 which is 1758 so it adds up.
Yeah but thats why it was so funny! when minami was trying to catch him out yasuhara listed a long timeline of his HUGE lifetime as if he really was that old!
crazy!
