"Nothing is really original anymore" - There's a reason formulas are followed... it's because they work. To avoid being cliche, though, that takes creativity and originality and combining old elements in new ways. I think viewers innately expect a story to follow a certain path. When it doesn't, it feels like something is "missing". It really is amazing how you can take so many of the shows that are out today and basically boil them down to very similar themes. Nothing is really original anymore is it? Not that it matters, after all its the common concepts that we like, its how they manage to make it different that keeps us watching. ^-^ Thank you for the interesting article.
