Manabi Straight Parody Ep 4 – “They are not lolis? I have been deceived!”

Technically, this picture of Mei will be classified under a “loli fanservice” tag due to the fact that they look something like 12-13. Right?

Wrong.

(And I am still in disbelief…)

First, look at the school. I always thought that the school was a bit too big for a primary school. I mean, you have all the hi-tech equipment that children should not know. Yes, you can argue that they are in the future where all the kids are insanely IT-knowledgeable, but…

Let’s review two conversation evidences.

“However, that happened during primary school right?”

NOTICE THE “happened“. It is not happens, or happen or is happening but HAPPENED. It is in the darn past, which means that they have definitely graduated from primary school.

It’s all right. That’s all right. They are still middle school students. That is due to the fact that they have just graduated from primary school to move up.

“Didn’t that happen a long time ago?”

“Well, Mei is still traumatized by it.”

That is in fact the conversation that came next but i do not want to include too many screenshots of the same thing. So, it’s a long time ago. The evidence seems to hint that they are now high school students, though it might be that for young middle school students, 3 months is a long time, right?

“The last time you are here is during the opening ceremony of high school.”

I am hitting myself on the wall a few times whenever I see this line. I am still in distinct disbelief (and alliteration ain’t awesome).

Did Mei just say high school? High school students generally range from 14-18, but they are definitely not loli characters by any chance. The fact that they are not exactly first year students (aka freshmen) meant that they are definitely older rather than younger. This is not a loli show. I think. Just when I am forcing myself to be convinced that the 12 year old-like characters of Manabi Straight are in fact lolis, this last picture nailed it.

Look at the sign of the school.

******* High School.

I have been deceived. Have you?

    Lolis or no lolis, I don’t care. I never was a huge fan of that term anyway. In any case, I actually liked the fourth episode. ^_^

    hate to break it to you but.. if that’s a Japanese high school then they’d be about 16~18.

    And so it came to pass… that the world Impz loved shattered before his very eyes.

    *laughs insanely*

    Ah, thank you, ufotable. They just get drawn that way. Either that, or else kids move onto high school a lot quicker due to the general lack of future generations which is afflicting society in general.

    but doesn’t it seem like Seioh has a lot of the loli looking high schoolers? I mean, at least the Aioh president looks like a normal high schooler…

    I think its an accurate description. Actual Japanese people ages 16-18 LOOK like they are 12-15. I kid you not. Heck, a few of those high schoolers look like they are in elementary school. Maybe its because those people are late “bloomers”? Sorry, bad pun. Anyways, Asian women generally look a LOT younger than their real age.

    @banpeikun
    It all depends actually. For me, Manabi Straight had its character designs drawn like primary school students, act like them, yet are high school students. Seriously, contrary to your statement, most japanese look older than their actual age, ie girls at the age of 12 over there look like 16 and above, whereas high school students can pass off as above 19 easily.

  15. teferi January 31st, 2007 10:29 pm

    O_o;;
    Loliness isn’t defined by age. It’s defined by the mass of disturbed people that want anime/manga/etc. containing it.

    Go rewatch excel saga again for the last ep with cosette to see the whole loli/age correlation proven utterly wrong ._.”

    That was surprsing. This? not so much. If we can have 14 year olds that look like they’re 18, doesn’t seem unreasonable the other waya round.

  19. RocketZX April 13th, 2007 8:43 pm

    anime is anime, their characters can be designed however they want

    lol

    Being older girls while keeping the loli appearance is actually 10x better imo ^_____^’
