Saiunkoku Monogatari Ep 30 – 女人的胆

snapshot20061219131904-resi.jpg

What happens when you are on a line where good and evil, fair and unfair, are no longer important at all? Anyone feel Kant’s theory here? Seiran is turning slowly to a rather dark character, with this episode showing yet a different side of him. I cannot blame him considering how he was brought up.

The title for this episode is 女人的胆

hmm, good question, greencrayon. The current season ends at 39 episodes but we have absolutely no release of details from the animators about the length of the 2nd season. When there are any details, i will report it when i can ^+^

omg not the flute guy x_x I dont like him. I do like darker Serian tho.

  6. Posted December 19, 2006 at 9:47 pm | Permalink

    ehhh, why not? I think he’s the most random character ever, and the fact that he’s the best talented person in the most regarded clan of the country makes him extremely unique T_T;;;

*today, impzie is extremely bored and hence sitting down here in his site to response*

T_T A darker Seiran adds more variety to the character. I wonder what will happen if he eventually explodes…I hope he does not do anything rash because we have seen him lose his cool!

*__* I don’t really care if Seiran is showing his true colors now. He can go massacre a whole clan plus their cows if it’s to show how much he cares. I’ll forgive him haha

And Ryuuren is so weird, but that’s why he’s so interesting. How can people not like him?? lol

I like Ryuuren a lot too! :) He’s so absolutely cute. haha.

I think Seiran is perfectly ok. I don’t think he’s dark at all. Just very smart and realistic. Hey, Shuurei’s father Shouka also kills people, does that make him any dark at all?

BTW, it’s Shunki not Shouki … and err, I thought it was the black wolf? Not the black panther?

ANd I had thought Impz is a girl. ahhhahahaha. :P

ya, lys, u are both right….Tee hee, i always seem to have problems with names, it seems ;_; Even after checking it twice, oh well. ^^

Ehhh, sigh, you thought i was a girl? Well, you never really know what my gender will be since i prefer to use “his” and all. Being a female in an anime community can be rather dangerous. Tee hee ^+^

Well, Shouka showed reluctance to kill even though he is of the black wolf gang….However, Seiran does not differentiate and he is pure Kant at work. Whatever the means, as long as his motivation is satsified, he will do it. Hence, he will kill anyone, do anything in order to protect Shuurei. It’s a totally different level altogether when you kill out of necessity and kill because it’s simply the best way to do it.

“Being a female in an anime community can be rather dangerous. Tee hee ^+^”

Oh how true! The number of times guys have tried to pick me up whilst I’m trying to browse the manga or anime in the store!

One time after trying to shake this guy off three times, hubby-sama even growled at him and he still didn’t get the message. So we ended up leaving before my husband really lost his temper and decided to kick the crap out of him.

I just want to buy manga and anime without being hassled by guys, is that too much to ask?

Sorry got sidetracked. But yeah, even though this shows a darker side to Seiran I like it because as you said it makes him more than just a boring one dimensional character.

And it does show the depths of his feeling for Shuurei, that he would go to any extreme to protect her.

Although I must say I think Shuurei herself would be unhappy to know that Seiran thinks this way.

u get picked up browsing manga?….*cough* Too pretty is a crime i guess? Rofl.

That said, I think Shuurei will one day find out the darkness in Seiran. I have a feeling that Shouka knows a bit about Seiran’s inner struggle but Shuurei is oblivious to it. If you see it carefully, Seiran never revealed anything much in front of Shuurei and Shuurei, considering how perceptive she is, actually has no idea that Seiran was feeling so much trouble.

I do not know. For now, the balance is right but if Seiran turns even darker, I might have a problem with it. The charm of Seiran is his devotion to Shuurei and if he allows that dark side of him to manifest, his initial goal might disappear and he will simply be swallowed whole.

Yeah… the fansubs are slowwwww. Btw the ones you’re watching has chinese subs right? I’m tempted to get the chinese subbed versions cause they are faster but then again, anime is much better being subbed in english though. So I am still resisting the urge. Anyway, thanks for always keep us updated on Saiunkoku, since no one is bothered abt this great anime.

And i actually loved the angsty Seiran more and more – its a bit boring to have the guys always being good and noble (and let the rest of the bad guys trample over them).

“u get picked up browsing manga?….*cough* Too pretty is a crime i guess? Rofl.”

Yes, actually it happened again in Borders the other day when I was out Christmas shopping. I think initially I don’t mind, after all it is flattering on some level. Its just when people get persistent after I’ve already made it clear I’m not interested, I get a bit annoyed. Or maybe they think me mentioning my hubby is me actually some weird form of flirting. ^-^

I don’t know about pretty but hubby always tells me I’m cute but then he’s biased! ^-^

But back to the actual subject matter. Yea I don’t think Shuurei is aware of his darker nature at all and I agree Seiran has been careful to make sure of that. As I said I can’t imagine Shuurei would be happy if she did know.

Which really explains his animosity towards Ensei when he first appeared because he probably was very worried that Shuurei might find out some things from Ensei about himself that he would rather she didn’t.

  14. Posted December 23, 2006 at 4:59 am | Permalink

i think it is the fact that Ensei is a totally opposite person compared to him. Even Seiran said it himself that Ensei will be a person that will not be stained by evilness, which is probably why i can understand Seiran’s annoyance at him. He definitely likes ensei a lot but he’s jealous that he cannot be like him.

    Speculative stuff, of course.

“i think it is the fact that Ensei is a totally opposite person compared to him.”

Yes! That’s what makes it so much fun to watch them when Seiran is getting so annoyed over Ensei’s antics. And I could defintely see why Seiran would be jealous.

After all despite knowing how the world works Ensei still manages to have a very carefree manner. Seiran seems very rigid at times like he just can’t cut loose, so he would probably be very envious of Ensei in that respect.

Hmmm, I wouldn’t say Seiran’s slowing showing his “dark” side. He’s not an evil person at all. He just professes his love for Shuurei in a different manner (as opposed to Ryuuki, Ensei or Reishin). Seiran does not care how and in what manner Shuurei is protected, so long as she’s protected. Compare Ryuuki to Seiran. Ryuuki loves Shuurei no less than Seiran, but Ryuuki also wants her to be happy and understands that there’re larger issues at stake, ie, the country and the people. A bit of spoiler here, in the later episodes (of the novels), Ensei actually scolds at Seiran, saying that if Seiran does not restrain himself (his obsessive-compulsiveness) toward Shuurei, he would ruin it for Shuurei. When it comes to Shuurei, Seiran does not think, he just acts. So in that sense, Seiran is selfish, but he is by no means “dark”, as far as how I understood it.

I’m not sure if anyone realizes that, but there’s some indication (mostly in the novel) that Seiran was raped while in exile in Sa province. When Sakujin found him in the snow, he “rescued” him and sent him off to the local gang leader (I forgot his name but he was later killed by Seiran). That would explain why the gang leader, on seeing Seiran after 13 years, kept saying how much he misses him and complements that he’s as “pretty” as he last saw him. The novel has a clearer depiction of what happened regarding that episode. So now can you blame Seiran for hating Sakujin so darn much and for him wanting to hide things from Shuurei and others? Not that he has done some evil things, it’s because he’s too proud of himself to come to the reality that, he, the noble Seiran, raped and became a thief assasin…

I think Seiran definitely will not turn “dark” (as in the evil kind of dark)-he’s too kind and too gentle to do that. And by the way, if Shuurei were to end up with Ryuuki, Seiran still would not do anything because I think he values Ryuuki even more than Shuurei.

If you can read Japanese, I would highly suggest you to read the novel because it gives you a bigger picture. While I love the anime, there’s just no way to know what the characters are thinking.

I’m a ShuureiXSeiran fan, but romantically speaking, it’s just not happening…Seiran is destined to be playing a supportive male role…sigh…

    Merry Christmas everyone!!!!!

miffy O_O;;; Raped. Well, there’s a hint of what actually happened but I did not think of it in such an extreme manner…

Oh god, my mind hurts X_X

D.J-”Yea I don’t think Shuurei is aware of his darker nature at all and I agree Seiran has been careful to make sure of that.” It seems everyone is careful not to reveal their dark side to Shuurei, and Shuurei being all naive and what not, though she’s smart and perceptive, might never really find out about the “dark” sides of the people around her unless she was told. ie Ensei, Shusui, Yogetsu/Eigetsu, Sho taishi, Shouka, etc. Kourin would’ve been in the list but Koyou “tattled” about her to Shuurei so that’s over.

The rape-thing seems to be what was hinted by the gang leader, or maybe Seiran’s experience then was just like Nakago’s (from Fushigi Yugi though I’m not really sure what happened there).

Miffy-”I think Seiran definitely will not turn “dark
