I felt the same re the bara-hime story… I wonder what powers shuurei’s mom had, and whether or not shuurei (being the daughter) was passed the “power”.. Can’t wait to watch this tonight… =D

The man visiting Eiki was certainly Shou-Taishi, or better to say, Shi-sen – he appeared the same way in ep7, when Sa-Taiho died. (Why he is ‘Shi’, not some other sen – I believe I read it a while ago in Shadow’s spoilers

I’m really curious why he chose this appearance – maybe he’s going to introduce the ghost of Sa-Taiho to Eiki?

Anyway, are you sure that it is not something latent inside yourself? You know there’s manifest feelings and latent feelings. However, it’s true that Ryuuki is a very special man. I doubt there is anyone who will just be happy to see the person he loves to be fine. I can understand though, since i have similar experiences previously.
@Jasana: That is why I was very skeptical. I tried to scratch my head silly to figure out why he appeared in the young form. I mean, logically, you will not do that, even to Eiki. Eiki also did not look too surprised. I am extremely confused and I hope to have some more enlightenment on the reasoning. The introduction of Sa in the spirit form logic is not firm since Eiki is hardly someone who can be surprised by most things. There might be an inner meaning to it.
@wontaek: me too, but well, the fact that he eliminated three soldiers with one stroke was….just inhuman. ya, that should be it, lys on the shouka and shoukun case. Me too, i have this anime and having a 2nd season just….makes it wonderful. Well, if Eiki knows about the saints, it will be not that surprising. Maybe, to Eiki, it makes no difference with the appearance so Shou taishi does not have to put on any pretense. With that reasoning, it should be ….accurate.

You’re definitely right. Rose princess is Shuurei’s mom. Everything about her just fits exactly as it should be. Since we don’t know much about her and Shouka’s history, maybe it’s a hint of foreshadowing?
Ryuuki is so cute in this episode ^.^ I wonder when will he finally get to meet Shuurei again. I’m guessing at the near end of season 1, which I HOPE not. It sucks to be emperor haha I also love Seiran and Shuurei’s closeness here. Who cares if there’s no romantic feelings, their bonding time is always so cute lol

Or maybe Shuurei just didn’t want to end up as one of the emperor’s wives and end up in his harem and her job being to produce heirs. Maybe Ryuuki might change the law (again) and allow women to co-govern the country with the emperor (notwithstanding all the ministers uproar), then she’ll agree to marry him?
well, i think the fact is that her life goal is to be an official in order to make a change to people’s life. However, i doubt she wants Ryuuki to abuse his power, which is why she admired Ryuuki a lot. She knew that if Ryuuki wanted, he would have given her a lot of troops and power or even let her stay somewhere near to him.
However, he did not but simply chose what is good for the nation. That, if he had done it and let her co-govern, will make her lose all respect of Ryuuki. Ryuuki is too wise a king to forsake everything for Shuurei, as told in the Bara-hime story.

im so glad to be able to find this page.. i’ve just started watching saiunkoku two weeks ago.. the episodes with english subs are late that is why i really appreciate the summary you’ve done here ^_^
from the time i started watching this until now i always get confused with their names and titles and it seems like now every episode introduces new characters with tongue twisting names..it’s hard to follow who’s the bad guys like what happened to sa enjun and shou in the first season…
anyways, i support the ryuukiXshuurei pair….i was really touched with ryuuki’s childhood and inspite of the cruelty he suffered from his relatives then, he was still able to feel love for shuurei.. sometimes when a child experiences that kind of traumatic experiences, he becomes withdrawn and cruel..but it’s different for ryuuki, for me that’s what makes him really adorable!

Sometime I pissed off shuurei when she neglecting him. Ryuuki has wonderful caracter. Why can’t she see it??? Ryuuki has sad past, but he still go on and even he has power to “get” shuurei, he prefers not to get shuurei by force and wait patienly to win her heart. He could forsake everything for the one he loves, but he chose to do the best for the country. He is far more than just a falling in love boy, but he is also a wise ruler.
Ryuuki is cool, wise, funny, handsome, smart, great in tactics and politics, dumb (pretend to be) yet skillful in swordmanship,so adorable and yes, you’re right !! He behave like a spoil puppy when it came to shuurei….soooooooooo cuteeeeeee…

Just finished this epi, a little dissapointed with Shurrei… At night she only thought about “We will reach Kouling tomorrow.. he (the red-hair guy) will be there”… =(
But I cannot deny that Ryuuki was sooo cute in this episode.. =) the part where he was half-begging & teased Ran & Li, the part where he stayed up thinking about Shuurei at night, the part where he finally saw Shuurei’s face… wahhhh… *_*

I have embarrassed myself COUNTLESS times on this blog trying to get the names right. Unlike the professionals who can understand Japanese easily, i can’t, so i have to guess the engrish of the names. Sigh
@Yuuri: I think Shuurei does not have the capacity to love, as you will see in the later few episodes. Also, Ryuuki also knew that Shuurei’s heart is with the people and to make social changes, which is why he let her go. Painful but the biggest sacrifice as a lover.

I am glad that Shuurei is working towards her dream instead being consumed by a need for romance.
She isn’t Miaka, but a woman of worth because her mind and character. She needed to do this: become an offical, serve her country in a difficult post, and then fall in love at the end.
Ryuuki will not only get a lover, but an emperess acknowledged for her worth not by her bloodline, but her own actions.

Well, after having just watched the translated version of 29…don’t you find that after Shuurei says “but at least i can grow thorns” and Seiran says to himself “So that you would not be captured…right?” , he looks sad? As in…he wants to “capture” her for himself? I think that’s somewhat of a hint of romantic feelings right there. He didn’t look mad when the whole scene with Ryuuki happened, but I mean, how CAN Seiran possibly be mad at Ryuuki? It’s his beloved otouto we’re talking about here. I still say SeiranxShuurei forever! O and the scene with Koyuu yelling at Shuuei because of what Shuuei said to Ryuuki was priceless! XD (i think he might be jelaous -.-’ )

im still a lil confuse about where is the setting for this anime..is it china? if it’s china, isnt there a time when they have a queen that rule everything, like queen Elizabeth from ENgland? with shurei’s attitude, she seem more fitting to be an officer than a queen who rule over the country. anyhow, i watch a lot of chinese movie and i’ve seen that queen hold a lot of power too. and as a queen , shurei can still go about with her business, it not like she’ll get tie down in the castle. i dont know why they’re making it’s hard for her to get w/ ryuki. and what’s up w/ shurei getting kisses by so many guys??? dammit, i wanna be her. if i were her, i woudlnt pick ryuuki over anthing, but then if shurei chooses him over governor officer,then i guess he wouldnt desire her that much.
