Who the hell are you?
I have not caught his name yet and that is also because he is not mentioned with his first name just yet. I truly wonder who he is, simply because he is the person in the flashback in episode 3, where the girls see their own deaths and the person who is in the same scene as Lisa when she died.
Now, the thing is this. He seems to know what in the world is happening with the four girls and yet seems to take a rather laid back situation on it. I do not know whether he’s an antagonist or protagonist but whoever he is, he is definitely going to appear.
That sums my before-thoughts and now for the episode summary proper.
Episode summary

Rachel left the killing field in a shock, completely appalled at how she killed a person in cold blood in order to survive. The three did not give chase but simply left as they went into Claire’s car, with Kate still concerned about Rachel. Rose said it was all her fault that Rachel had to kill, as she was too timid. She then left the stalling car, only to catch Lula. She asked Lula about how long they had to do it and Lula simply said to do it every night until they achieved their objective. She would not say what objective it was, going to fight without knowing anything.
Back at home, Rachel was trying hard to get rid of the stench (probably self imagined) with perfume and was totally breaking down due to the impact of killing a beast. She also messed up the whole room, thinking whether living this way was worth it.
As she woke up, we saw her having a talk with her mother who was an alcoholic. Her mom was knitting gloves that looked completely out of shape and with shivering hands. Back at school, Rose was stoning and freaking out when she saw her friend tear a chicken drumstick’s flesh with her mouth, but Claire came back with a smile.

Kate, Claire and Rose were on the rooftop, discussing after Claire had found the place where they supposedly died. Rose made excuses about having to take care of the kids, and that she could not go with them. Claire blew her top and said she was simply contradicting herself but Rose insisted it was not because she was scared. Rose was with the two kids and shopping. She then switched off her handphone, as an indication to reject any attempt by Kate to reach her. At Rose’s house, when one of the kids mentioned how they did not want her, she broke down, hugging them and told them to say that they want her and need her. She really feared not being “there” anymore.
Kate and Claire went into the house, finding nothing much. Kate commented how strong Claire was as they reached the room where they died. As a sound rang from outside after entering the scene of the crime, Claire charged out, grabbing a candlestick and screaming for the “intruder” to appear.
She went totally bonkers, with Kate barely able to hold her back in her insane rage. It was in fact just a rat that dropped something as Claire’s nerves broke down. She was also scared, just that she wanted to know the truth about everything and it is of things that are uncertain that scares her. Kate also noted that if no one was staying in the house, the pool was way too well maintained.
On the other hand, Claire was meeting up with her friends but she realized that she was unable to associate with them anymore. She felt that they were annoying. She also wondered whether she was any more a human as she stopped the car forcefully, nearly causing an accident. She then dropped out, losing it completely as she slumped onto the ground, with her vision blurring. She cried and suddenly noticed the blond man. The blond man simply smiled wickedly and eventually said “Goodbye”.

Thoughts

I am still disturbed who the blond man is. He is the same guy from the flashback. Why is he there and seemingly know everything about the girls. I have deep suspicions.
- 1. He is in fact the person who brings in all the girls to have this second life. He is the middle man for Lula in which to kill girls for their experiments. Hence, he has conveniently killed Lisa for the experiment and the remaining gals are simply unlucky to be involved in this as well. This does not destroy the logical flow of the story, considering that the gals are systemically killed by men in black coats.
- 2. He is the creator of the monsters, considering that we also see the flashback of the dogs. That will mean that this blond man is in fact the enemy of Lula, working on different ends or similar ones perhaps?
- 3. He is actually Haruhi in disguise. Ok, this one is lame but honestly, he might be an entity of God in the creation of such girls that have supernatural powers. He is perhaps the overseer of things in this system since you do remember that he seems to be around everywhere, as though he knew explicitly where the gals are. That fact that he can appear where Claire/Kate was in the mansion, and then visit Rachel in the streets. Hmm, that is something to think of.
Also, what is the true purpose? I mean, i have various ideas of the true purpose. Well, rather than ideas, I will say that they are thoughts. However, I will keep them mom for now, also to add that I have a feeling that the abilities only appear when the yearning of life is strong enough. If they lose faith in their lives, their powers will disappear and die like the gals in episode 3-4?
I believe that Kate is in fact the strongest among the four in mental strength. She is probably the most affected but her outlook on life and the fact that she does rely on Rose, Claire and others for support meant that there is still a life for her to live. Even though she has friends, at least these friends give her the proper support, unlike our three other heroines who do not have that stronghold of faith to keep their sanity.
Claire in fact is also weak. She is fearful of the fact that she does not know what is happening and she is trying so hard to be strong and defend herself. She, unlike Rachel and Rose who think they are already dead and not human, feels that she needs to see the truth before being able to accept it.
That to me, plus the sudden outburst in the villa where she ranted crazily, smashed all my thoughts that Claire is in fact the most courageous one.
I wonder too. Next week seems to be them dealing with Lula showing them their corpses. Man, it’s downright disturbing now. Perhaps this is why Red Garden works.

Wow… Simply the best.
I was really looking forward to this episode and boy did it pay off.I’m really glad that Red Garden is able to maintain this high level of suspense. Seriously I think that this whole shady business about killing to survive have really driven the characters to their extreme point, forcing them to shed any possible facade to release their concealed emotions. Though understanding the fears of human, it is still daunting and appalling for it to be presented explicitly. Kate’s rational nature is really commendable given the circumstances.
I really wonder why are there corpses? Are they also living on borrowed bodies?
Thanks for the summary! Really appreciate it!
That blond guy’s name is Herve according to ANN.
I don’t think that Herve is working for Lula, because in the first episode, he stole Lise away from Lula’s people. That’s why Lise wasn’t able to resurrect like the others. I think he’s the one who created/controled those monsters.
@Dore: hmmm, well, did he really steal lisa away from Lula’s people? If i remember correctly, the situation is that the man beast grabbed Lisa away from them. I do not know because he feels like the antagonist but remember that Lula does not look anything like a protagonist. Who is the person really saving them
Lula or this Herve (i think it’s harvey btw)?
I wonder -_-
@S: I am actually speculating that they are living on borrowed bodies. That, i am not sure, since i hell know what kind of sick experiment they have done. We probably get an answer on it in episode 6, which is still a fricking long way to go for me to get any chinese subs T_T
And this shady business. Hmmm. I really wonder what the purpose is.
Hey I just saw episode 4 and apparently the blond guy, Herve, cannot see those butterflies that act as an informant. I wonder is it kinda a showdown between Lula and him. Somehow she seems to have gone through on borrowed lives before.
I love the show!
he can’t? Where is it? I must rewatch that again then. I did not really get that point from episode 4.
Hmmmm, but i think it might be a showdown. I still cannot get rid of the notion that Harvey MIGHT be in cahoots with Lula. Just an intuitive thing in me, that’s all.
Yeah. It was when Claire was done looking for the house and the guy followed her. So all he saw was her jumping and screaming in the air.
