Awww, why did you make the lolicious Karada cry like that?

Sigh, Karada is really cute big time now. At least the resolution for episode 4 was a nice one, and I really enjoyed this episode a lot, much more so than Episode 3. Even though the quality of the animation dipped slightly (Hiro and Karada had funny-looking faces in some of the screenshots), the nice emotional feel-good factor was there and that made my day.

A brief summary and my thoughts continued….

Episode 4 Rating: A-

Episode summary

It started with a flashback of Hiro and Karada when they were at the festival one year ago. They had gone to this high spot to see the fireworks and it was an enjoyable experience as we returned back to reality.

The three were in Shouko’s apartment, with Hiro shocked that the grown up girl was his sister. He could not believe it no matter how much Shouko tried to convince him, and eventually he called Karada “that girl”. Hiro then left, leaving Karada very hurt as the person she wished most to believe in her did not and rejected her. Shouko chased Hiro who was getting to the elevator and eventually kicked him and scolded him for being an insensitive prick (i added the prick for effect :p). As Karada was in the room, she started to wish that she did not wish on the wishing stone.

After that, a door bell rang and Hiro was at the door. Hiro did come back and rested while lying his back on the wall. As he woke up, he saw Karada doing some cooking as he faked to be sleeping. He then saw the normal mannerisms of his sister, as he consumed the breakfast. He probably knew that it was Karada because of how the steamed egg was made. Then, it was Karada’s classmate and her sister talking about Karada and the festival as the sister mentioned about many people going. He then sneak off when he was supposed to be studying.

As Hiro was in the clinic, his colleague noted that he looked to be in better spirits. He also received a call from Shouko, asking him to go for the festival. Shouko, on the other hand, was dressing up Karada in the yukata that she could not wear anymore, as they went to the festival to meet up with Hiro.

It was a rather awkward scene as both of them kept quiet. Karada actually wanted to leave but Shouko held her on. As they walked silently around the festival, Shouka asked Karada about what they did in the festival the day before. Given some time to be silent, Shouka noted that Hiro already had the feeling that it was Karada.

As Shouko took the opportunity to leave the two alone by grabbing some takoyaki, the two went to the hilltop where they stood one year ago. Hiro mentioned about his sister and the day of the festival. Karada eventually broke down and started to say how she wished she did not wish for it. She felt that she was a burden to Hiro and wanted to grow up. However, by growing up this way, she was still unable to be a true adult and was still a burden. She continued to cry until Hiro smiled and said “Karada-san”.

With that, they came down together happily, with Shouko taking her leave. However, Hiro said that Karada is very stubborn when it comes to it and Shouko finally agreed to stay together as they walked back home together.

Thoughts

I am really appreciating a lot of Shouko’s character. She has to firstly put aside her hatred and anger toward Karada for stealing the man of her dreams and protect the emotionally fragile child that was in an adult’s body. Moreover, she has her own problems of being in a child’s body and still have to support the other two. I find it very admirable, which is why it is really hard to hate Shouko even though she’s petty and vindictive.

The way she helps the two get back together was really a very sweet scene and I almost went awww with it. It is really a very nice plot movement, considering they are already acceptable with each other. I must say that I still have no idea how the story will go from now but I think there is still the resolvement of Shouko as a child and I think they are tackling that for the next episode.

Also, I like the part when Hiro accepted his sister by calling her Karada-san. It was probably hard to persuade yourself that your young loli-istic sister suddenly turned to a hot babe. Ermm, ok that last thought came from me. But anyway, I really feel that considering that he has bind himself so much, that warm smile was the first smile I have ever seen from Hiro. That idiot should go cut his hair or something.

Karada is really like a child. Sorry, Karada, but you are. She really does not fit an adult, but it’s for certain since it is only her body and not her mind that has reached the adult stage. Oh well. Anyway, this is a sweet little show and the next episode seems to be the same style as usual. I just hope that the random dips of graphics was just a blip that will disappear soon. :D

textural and solid. I see no problems. ^^
Shouko is pretty awesome, I agree! She’s in the right for the angry-girl display in ep01, imo.
